'Kudos & Wet Willies,' Hixon edition
    2008-08-19 05:00:06
A crazy 30-3 start. A pretty lethargic second half. Great nights for Domenic Hixon and Danny Ware. It all added up to a 37-34 victory for the Giants in last night's second exhibition game. Let's review, as we always do, 'Kudos & Wet Willies' style. Kudos to ... Domenic Hixon, Domenic Hixon, Domenic Hixon: Two touchdown catches on passes from Eli Manning, and an 82-yard kick return for a score. This guy is a big-time playmaker. Tell me again why the Broncos cut him? Eli Manning: Two nice touchdoown throws to Hixon, a heads-up scramble for a first down AND HE DIDN'T GET HURT. I'm not so sure about the scruffy excuse for a beard, though. Maybe THAT gets a 'Wet Willie.' The Starting Defense: They weren't in the game long, but they were flying to the ball. Justin Tuck, Osi Umenyiora and Danny Clark in particular. Danny Ware: Hopefully, Reuben Droughns has a plan for what to do when his football career is over. The way Ware is playing, that end is coming soon. A 59-yard kickoff return

Lions 13, Giants 10: 'Kudos & Wet Willies' returns
    2008-08-08 05:00:07
In sticking with tradition, let's review Thursday night's 13-10 exhibition season-opening loss to the Detroit Lions in 'Kudos & Wet Willies' style. If you're new here, that's our version of 'thumbs up, thumbs down' or 'heroes & goats,' or whatever you want to call it. I will review every game with 'Kudos & Wet Willies,' often with some commentary spliced in. Anyway, let's get down to business. Kudos to ... Anthony Wright and David Carr: The two quarterbacks who are battling to be Eli Manning's primary backup were both impressive. Wright was crisp, completing 9-of-13 passes for 116 yards. Carr was also sharp, completing 10-of-13 for 104 yards and one touchdown. If there was a negative, it was the two big penalties Carr took. One was for an illegal forward pass, crossing the line of scrimmage and throwing. The second was an intentional grounding that killed the Giants with about a minute to go. Kenny Phillips: The Giants' No. 1 pick looks like the real deal. He led the Gi

Kudos to Channel 4's Jenny Cavnar!
    2008-07-27 17:48:00
Jenny Cavnar, the excellent sports reporter at Channel 4 San Diego, deserves major kudos for standing up for what she believes in. According to a very low-rated radio station, Cavnar defended a family which prayed in a restaurant over their "$1.19 macaroni and hot dog," which is certainly their right under the U.S. Constitution. How did this all come about? One of the morning people on a radio station not ranked among the top 37 in San Diego gave his "fed up" for the day to the family praying over its $1.19 macaroni and hot dog plates. He said he sent out emails to friends, and that Cavnar disagreed with his stance. Since he didn’t know the names of the people praying over their macaroni and hot dog, he gave his "fed up" of the day to Cavnar for defending the family’s right to pray in public. Well, since his radio station is ranked so low, this morning guy better fear for his job soon in a competitive market. If he is given the boot, then maybe he’ll be giving thanks if his famil

    GirlChat says 'Kudos to Stossel'
    2008-04-11 22:10:06
We've mentioned before how ABC's 20/20 show challenging Age of Consent laws focused not just on consenting teenagers caught on the registry, but on sex offender laws in general. People whose crimes look nothing like teenagers being caught up for having consensual sex, so is it any wonder that members of the online pedophile community 'GirlChat' (for pedophiles favoring female victims) had this to say about 20/20's show:Dissident:Kudos to Stossel for being one of the first Nons to start questioning these laws and the cultural mores that stand behind them, along with showing up a fanatical totalitarian bully like Petra Luna. Greenfly:i believe it was Stossel who was the first to "go after" NBC for their "To Catch a Predator" show.Any way, I've emailed my applause and support for what he's doing.LOD:infact, I've started shopping at Amazon all the time because of their stances. I think I'll start watching 20/20 a lot more now too.Catherine N.X:This is fucking excellent. John Stossel interv

'Kudos & Wet Willies,' Playoff Edition
    2007-12-24 05:45:57
Ahmad Bradshaw breaks away en route to his 88-yard touchdown run Sunday against the Buffalo Bills. (AP Photo) It's a joyous day for New York Giants' fans. Facing a 14-0 deficit Sunday and staring at another late-season collapse, the 10-5 Giants fought their way to a 38-21 victory and a third straight playoff appearance. There are plenty of 'kudos' to be doled out, and a couple of 'Wet Willies,' so let's get started. Kudos to ... • Ahmad Bradshaw: If you didn't know this is where I was going to start today, you weren't paying attention Sunday. Bradshaw had the breakout game the Giants and their fans have been anticipating, and he showed up just in time. His 88-yard touchdown run broke open a tight game and propelled the Giants into the playoffs. His 17-carry, 151-yard performance means the Giants have added another playmaker to their arsenal. • Brandon Jacobs: The big beast ran over the Bills for a career-high 145 yards on

'Kudos & Wet Willies,' escape from Chicago edition
    2007-12-03 05:32:03
Eli Manning throws a pass Sunday against the Chicago Bears. Eli and the Giants overcame a miserable game to score two late touchdowns and defeat the Bears, 21-16. (Getty Images) Sunday's 21-16 comeback victory over the Chicago Bears was a huge victory for the Giants in many ways. Let's go through some of what it meant. What is Eli Manning? There are still questions about Eli, and probably will be as long as he doesn't have a Super Bowl ring. For this week, though, he is a quarterback who found a way to win a road game against a tough defense despite playing poorly. So, for at least a week maybe the Eli debate will be muted. What is this team? There are plenty of questions about what the Giants are, and exactly how good they are. Who is their go-to offensive player? Can their secondary hold up without the pass rush? Can they get to the playoffs? Can they finally win a playoff game? For now, though, they are an 8-4 team that hung together, won a d

'Kudos & Wet Willies,' Monday edition
    2007-10-01 14:40:25
As we usually do on Monday's, let's review last night's 16-3 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles 'Kudos & Wet Willies' style. Kudos to ... • Osi Umenyiora: He had an incredible six of the Giants record-tying 12 sacks of Donovan McNabb. Poor Winston Justice. What was Andy Reid thinking, not giving the overmatched Eagles offensive tackle any help against Osi? Thank you, Andy! • Michael Strahan: Had only one of the Giants' dozen sacks, but it pushed him past Lawrence Taylor as the team's all-time sack leader. • Mathias Kiwanuka: He's a linebacker! He's a defensive end! He's a defensive tackle! It doesn't matter where he plays, what Kiwanuka really is is a defensive force. Last night, spending huge chunks of time rushing McNabb from tackle, he record three sacks. • Justin Tuck: Can't leave out the other member of the Giants sack brigade. Tuck had six tackles and two sacks. By now, it's obvious this guy is a lot more than a backup defensive end.

    Kudos & Wet Willies
    2007-06-17 14:38:00
It's time for a Sunday edition of 'Kudos & Wet Willies.'Kudos to ...• Tony Parker and the San Antonio Spurs. Parker averaged more than 24 points per game to lead the Spurs to their fourth NBA title in nine years. The Spurs aren't flashy, and you never think of them as a great team, but four championships in nine years is pretty special.• Justin Verlander. Verlander fired a no-hitter last week, and it might not be his last. The young Tigers right-hander was topping 100 mph in the 9th inning. He can be dominant the way Randy Johnson and Roger Clemens used to be.• Brandon Watson. Who? Watson is a member of the Columbus Clippers, and Saturday he tied an International League record by extending his hitting streak to 42 games.• Oakmont. Site of the ongoing U.S. Open, the course is prving to be a formidable challenge for the best golfers in the world. Heading into the final round Aaron Baddeley (who?) leads with a score of +2. I love to watch this kind of golf. Players are challen

Sox Kudos From A Cubs Writer!
    2007-06-04 14:15:00
I came across this article from the Herald of Chicago, and it's highly complimentory of our Red Sox. More on that later, after this...the entire article, from the Herald News of Chicago, is yours by clicking on the title of this very post. But read this excerpt and my comments that follow, and THEN click......**RED SOX ARE WINNERS**June 4, 2007"In a lineup which features thumpers like David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez, it's easy to see why Kevin Youkilis gets good pitches to hit.Youkilis, a 28-year-old from Cincinnati, has taken full advantage of the opportunities opposing pitchers present him. In fact, Youkilis was the talk of Boston through the team's first 50 games this season.Big Papi has been productive, and Ramirez still does his thing, but Youkilis was the team's best hitter through May. He began June with a slugging percentage of nearly .600, thanks largely to a hitting streak which had reached 21 games by May 30.He can play first or third base, but his principal value is at th

    Kudos & Wet Willie's
    2007-06-03 14:34:00
It's time for an edition of Kudos and Wet Willie's.Kudos to ...• LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. King James and his supporting cast have bailed out David Stern and the NBA, reaching the finals and making the NBA watchable again.• Mississippi Braves Manager Philip Wellman. On pure entertainment value, this is the best managerial tirade in a long time. You do, however, have to think maybe Wellman could use some counseling. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUcFWPgB8oYWet Willie's to ...• Fox broadcaster Tim McCarver. McCarver ripped the Yankees decision not to start Roger Clemens this weekend in Fenway Park (which was rendered moot by Clemens' injury). What is came down to is that McCarver was whining about the ratings boost the game would have gotten if Clemens pitched Saturday during the Fox telecast.• The Chicago Cubs. They're fighting with each other, Manager Lou Piniella is losing control of his temper and his team, and the Cubs (22-31) are headin

Kudos & Wet Willie's, full edition
    2007-05-25 17:23:00
Kudos & Wet Willie's, generic edition.Kudos to ...• John Smoltz. The long-time Braves ace shut out the Mets for 7 innings Thursday night to become the first pitcher to record 200 wins and 150 saves in a career.• The Braves. Last night's victory gave Atlanta three straight series victories over the Mets. The Braves trail New York by only 1.5 games, and look like they will push the Mets all season.• Derrek Lee. The Cubs first baseman leads the majors with a .370 batting average and is third in RBI with 41.• Tim Duncan. The San Antonio Spurs star continues to add to a legacy that could see him considered the best power forward to ever play. He now has at least 20 points and 10 rebounds in 11 straight playoff games. Duncan seems well on his way to leading San Antonio to their fourth title in his remarkable 10-year career.Wet Willie's to ...• Michael Vick. Kudos & Wet Willie's, Yankees edition
    2007-05-25 13:04:00
It's time to hand out some Kudos and Wet Willie's. This will be an all Yankees edition.Kudos to ...• Derek Jeter. The Yankee Captain passed Joe DiMaggio Wednesday and moved into fifth place on the all-time Yankee hit list. He now has 2,216 career hits. Jeter, who will turn 33 next month, is most likely going to become the all-time Yankee hit leader before he is through playing, as well as the first Yankee to reach 3,000 hits. Lou Gehrig is the team's all-time leader with 2,721 hits. Jeter is currently hitting .367, and over the past two seasons has been as good, if not better, than ever. There are a great many people who believe that Jeter is overrated, but accomplishments like this make that argument hard to sustain. There will be a monument to Jeter one day in the new Yankee Stadium, and it will be well deserved.• Jorge Posada. At an age where catchers usually slow down, Posada is playing better than ever. Like Jeter, he's hitting .367. He's also done great work with a young

    Let's play Kudos & Wet Willie's
    2007-05-14 19:03:00
Time for a quick version of Kudos & Wet Willie's.Kudos to ...• Sean O'Hair: O'Hair is getting killed for his decision yesterday on the 17th hole of the Players Championship. In case you aren't familiar with it, O'Hair trailed Phil Mickelson by two shots heading to the infamous island green at the 17th. His choice, lay up in the middle and be satisfied with second place, or go for the pin -- located in a tricky corner -- and risk hitting the ball in the water while trying to win.O'Hair went for the win, hit two balls in the water and dropped from second place to 11th. Oh, by the way, that cost him $747,000.To me, though, you compete for one reason -- to win. If you have a chance at victory, you have to take it. I wouldn't expect a professional to do anything else.• Jeff Gordon: You won't find much NASCAR talk here at The View, but what Gordon did Sunday was worthy of mention. Despite fighting with an overheating car that was spewing steam the last 100 laps, Gordon emerged vi

    Introducing Kudos & Wet Willie's
    2007-04-30 22:16:00
I ran a little something on my New York Giants blog the other day called 'Kudos & Wet Willie's,' sort of my version of thumbs up, thumbs down. It's the end of the first month of the baseball season, the NFL Draft just concluded and the NBA Playoffs are in full swing, so I thought now would be a good time for a 'Kudos & Wet Willie's' here at Valentine's Views.By the way, some of you more perverted folks might have a different idea of what a 'Wet Willie' is. For our purposes, we won't go there. Our definition is below, and I really don't want to hear yours. The act of moistening one's finger with one's own saliva, then inserting that finger into an unsuspecting person's ear canal.Anyway, let's get to it.Kudos to ...Alex Rodriguez. A-Rod had a fabulous April, hitting a record-tying 14 home runs, driving in a major league-leading 34 runs and hitting .355. He also blasted two game-winning ninth-inning home runs. The Yanks have been bad. Without A-Rod's heroics, though, th

    Kudos BMTC
    2007-03-18 16:50:00
The Bangaloreans may have dozens of complaints about their public transport service, known as BMTC (Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation) but living outside Bangalore and after experiencing other State RTCs, I give better rating to BMTC, compared to the buses I see in Chennai or Hyderabad.Photo of BMTC's women special bus (Still driven by male driver...)Below are the reasons why I rate BMTC better than city buses of Hyderabad or Chennai.BMTC is the only operator among Karnataka, AP and TN to run Volvo city buses [Details on Volvo City Bus Service here]Both Chennai and Hyderabad have local train facility which takes substantial load off bus service. Also there is share auto concept in these cities; hence the burden on bus service is less. But in Bengalooru, BMTC city buses have to serve people single handedly, as no other economic alternatives are available for passengers. Most of the BMTC buses have pneumatic doors which provide additional safety.
