Lamb Leg (Attukal) Soup - An easy and Tasty way to cook Lamb
    2008-07-16 11:07:00
Whenever I come across Soup recipe list, the fist thing I search for is sweetcorn soup in vegetarian and Lamb leg (attukal) soup in non vegetarian category. The vegetarian soup is my favourite and the non vegetarian is my husband's. Though I do not know how to cook non vegetarian, my mother-in-law fills the place. She is an awesome cook as far as non-veg is concerned. When we were in India this time, me and my husband gave our favourite menu list for her to cook and wow! every time she cooks, th

    LAMB Action Hero
    2008-07-13 20:09:00
There's a new 'battle' event going on at the LAMB - but this time, it's not a literal battle. The setup was this: if you had your choice, which action hero (or superhero) would you want as your roommate? I chose Iron Man, then wrote my (less than 500 word) essay, while my opponent, silly as he is, chose Underdog. There have been a few battles posted so far - check them out.In the meantime, here's a snippet from my entry:Go the the LAMB to read the rest of it, and the essay by my opponent. And of course, don't forget to vote for me.

Moroccan Spiced Lamb Shoulder Chops with Mango Raita
    2008-05-03 13:00:00
Lon's friend Justin gave us some lamb shoulder chops the other day and I thought hmm, interesting. I had never had lamb shoulder chops before. I made them for lunch today and I'm hooked. It's a great cut of meat!!I needed to make a quick lunch with the 1/2 inch thick lamb shoulder chops so I decided to rub them with a Moroccan Spice Blend. Use a generous amount and then throw them on a the grill for 4 minutes per side (for medium rare).I served it with an amazingly refreshing Mango Raita which was perfect with the strongly spiced lamb. While I can't take credit for the recipes, I can take credit for the pairing. It was a such a great meal, you won't believe you made it in less than 2o minutes!

Cake in Imitation of a Haunch of Lamb.
    2008-04-19 15:32:00
The amazing T.W Barritt has done it again. He has created a Retro Cake that is so Retro it must be due for a come-back - except that few would have the skill or patience to construct it. His Cake in Imitation of a Haunch of Lamb, inspired by a recipe in Theodore Garrett's late ninteenth century Encyclopaedia of Cookery, is HERE. While you are visiting, do check out his other Retro Cakes. Surely they are worth publishing in a real book?

    Lamb Shanks and Fresh Gnocchi
    2008-03-28 09:08:00
I'm finally feeling a bit better, not yet 100%, but I had just enough energy to make a home-cooked dinner last night. I tried this recipe for lamb shanks from Bon Appetit, and it was great. Definitely, one to serve to guests. It does take some time to make, but your kitchen will smell like heaven the whole time and you'll get a beautiful display of meat that falls off the bone, and sauce you want to drink.Kind of last minute, I decided on making gnocchi to go with it. I didn't write down the recipe since this is my first time making gnocchi. (Crazy right?) I kind of assumed it would be a work-in-progress. Now, I'm sad because it was actually really good. They were light and fluffy, melt-in-your-mouth pillows. I served it with left-over sauce from when I made oxtails. (There's no oxtails left, just a little bit of red sauce, and having good red sauce on hand is always a life-saver.)This meal totally exceeded my expectations. I was just hoping for Lon to be happy that he didn't have t

Plein air painting in downtown Halifax -- or, March: in like a lion, out like a lamb
    2008-03-01 18:40:04
After dropping off another painting at Uncommon Grounds this morning (show extended to the end of March) we headed out to paint. But the c-c-c-old fog drifted in just before today's storm and we cut out a bit early. (It was odd having snow blow in on the painting). We found a great spot though and if it wasn't for the wind and the coldness (and, oh yeah, the blowing snow) it would have been great -- we were in a car parkade overlooking a section of the city's downtown. It was like having the world all to ourselves. People bustling about below us on the streets were oblivious to us and not another soul showed up to look over our shoulder as we painted.

Lamb of God - a Heavy Metal Band from the United States of America
    2007-12-02 17:46:07
Misleading title? May be a little bit. American metal band Lamb of God has become one of the rising stars in the metal sky. Lamb of God, founded in 1990, plays trash, progressive, groove and speed metal. Their music is not easy to categorise, but probably the mentioned genres describe their music best. Lamb of [...]

    LAMB Report
    2007-11-09 18:27:00
(Ed. note: This post was originally published over at The LAMB, but I made a few edits and thought it belonged here as well. Thanks.)Well, The Large Association of Movie Blogs is not even two weeks old, and I couldn't be much prouder of a parent.Already, there are 11 LAMBs posted, and one more pending, for an average of more than one site a day. I know that doesn't sound like much, but with the existing LAMBs all linking to the site, and with some very special LAMBs writing individual posts about it (gold stars are awarded to Joe at Intermission at Work, * (asterisk) from A Blog About Nowt, and Wayward Jam over at Reel Whore - let me know if I've snubbed you), I think it's a great start.Hopefully, all of you who've sent in entries so far are seeing an ever-so-slight traffic boost as well; I can't say that Blog Cabins has received all that much, but I also can't say that I expected all that much in the early stages, as I'm pretty familiar with many of you already. That's about a

    The LAMB
    2007-11-03 14:42:00
Just a quick quasi-related programming note:I've decided to start up a new blog (of sorts). It's called the Large Association of Movie Blogs (LAMB), and is not at all a real association, but is intended to be a central location, a directory of sorts, for the numerous movie blogs out there. I'm sending a call out to any and all movie bloggers out there that would like to be posted on there, as I hope it would be a place for movie bloggers (and movie blog readers) to learn about other sites out there. With a number of blog directories and everyone's blogrolls being pretty scattershot, and with Google being a crapshoot as well, I know I'd like a place to go to read up a little bit about a number of sites and maybe get to know the authors (and their intentions) rather than surf blindly. It's still wildly raw (and admittedly not much to look at), but I've given it the green light and have even posted an (abbreviated) entry for Blog Cabins there as well. Please check it out at: http://

Williams-Sonoma Leg of Lamb Easter Dinner Recipe
    2007-09-15 19:44:00
Get ready for Easter dinner with this wonderful leg of lamb recipe straight from Williams-Sonoma. Roasted Leg of Lamb Ask your butcher to bone and butterfly the lamb, which involves cutting the meat almost all the way through so it can be opened up to lie relatively flat, like a book. 3 garlic cloves, finely minced3 Tbs. chopped fresh mint3 Tbs. chopped fresh oregano2 Tbs. olive oil, plus more as needed1 tsp. kosher salt, plus more, to tasteFreshly ground pepper, to taste1 boneless leg of lamb, about 4 lb., butterflied2 Tbs. wild game demi-glace or white wine1/2 cup chicken stock2 Tbs. unsalted butter Preheat an oven to 350°F. In a small bowl, combine the garlic, mint, oregano, the 2 Tbs. olive oil, the 1 tsp. salt and pepper. Place the lamb on a work surface and spread the herb paste evenly on the meat. Roll up the lamb and tie with kitchen string at 2- to 3-inch intervals. In a roasting pan over medium-high heat, warm enough oil to coat the bottom of the pan. Add the lamb and brown on all sides, 4 to 5 minutes per side. Transfer the pan to the oven and roast, turning the lamb every 20 minutes, until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the meat registers 130°F for medium-rare, about 1 hour. Transfer the lamb to a carving board, cover loosely with aluminum foil and let rest for 15 minutes. Skim the fat from the pan and set over medium heat. Add the demi-glace and stock and cook, stirring to scrape up the browned bits from the pan bottom. Strain the sauce into a saucepan, set over medium heat and cook until thickened, about 5 minutes. Whisk in the butter 1 Tbs. at a time, and season with salt and pepper. Snip the strings and thinly slice the lamb across the grain. Arrange on a warmed platter and pass the sauce alongside. Serves 8 to 10. Eat well & Laugh often

    Birthday Quotes - Charles Lamb
