It often determines whether a leader is viewed as being effective or ineffective, a plan is considered successful or a failure, and whether a candidate for office is embraced, or rejected. For a leader, success, or failure, is often determined by one presentation, speech,

Berlusconi schiaffeggia l'Europa ed i suoi Leader
    2008-06-19 08:04:11
Quickly.Tiger Woods shot 30 on the front nine at Torrey Pines -- his final nine holes of the day -- to card a 68 and move to within a shot of the lead through 36 holes. Woods birdied the first, second, fourth, fifth and ninth holes to shoot 30 on the par-35 front nine. Only three players in U.S. Open history have shot 29 for nine holes.Woods is playing competitively for the first time since The Masters. He had surgery on his left knee two days after that event.Woods, who three-putted his first hole (the 10th) and made two bogeys in his first three holes, electrified the gallery with an eagle on the par-5 13th hole to get back to 1-over par (his first U.S. Open eagle since 2004 at Shinnecock Hills).(courtesy of espn.com)

Mercedes-Benz still leader in safety after 50 years
    2008-06-04 07:34:00
Fifty years ago, Daimler-Benz created a key part of passenger car safety - the wedge-pin door lock. This patented piece of safety equipment was introduced into the production of Mercedes-Benz cars a year later and prevented vehicle doors from bursting open or becoming jammed shut in accidents. The Mercedes-Benz 220 (W 111) was the first car to have the new wedge-pin lock and it is well known for being a milestone vehicle in the history of car safety.A rigid passenger cell, front and rear crumple zones and the wedge-pin lock made the car a pioneer of safety.Fitted with a redesigned interior which removed all hazardous corners and edges, the car was the first ever made to have an integrated safety body.Fifty years on, Mercedes-Benz is continuing its high standards of safety and forging the relationship between passive and active safety. The Mercedes-Benz C-Class recently received a five star safety rating for adults from Euro NCAP showing the brand and is still a pioneer in road safety.Sour

Iceland - A Global Leader In Renewable Energy
    2008-05-24 07:04:08
In the area of renewable energy, Iceland is one of the world leaders. Currently, renewable or green energy sources provide 72% of the country's electricity needs. And, Iceland is one of the few countries with plans to completely wean themselves off of fossil fuels in the near term.Iceland derives this energy from two main renewable sources, geothermal and hydroelectric. Currently, the country gets about 26% of its power needs from geothermal power and the remainder from its many hydropower plants. The country has numerous power plants, of both types around the country and plans to develop two more geothermal plants by 2010.Sure, one could argue that supplying energy to a population of approximately 300,000 is a lot easier than 300,000,000 like in the United States. And, Iceland did develop these resources out of necessity, because it has few other natural resources. This was true especially in the early stages of Iceland's industrial development. That fact belies the country's current

Former President of India APJ Abdul Kalam : 'A Leader Should Know How to Manage Failure'India Knowledge@Wharton: Could you give an example, from your own experience, of how leaders should manage failure?Kalam: Let me tell you about my experience. In 1973 I became the project director of India's satellite launch vehicle program, commonly called the SLV-3. Our goal was to put India's "Rohini" satellite into orbit by 1980. I was given funds and human resources -- but was told clearly that by 1980 we had to launch the satellite into space. Thousands of people worked together in scientific and technical teams towards that goal.By 1979 -- I think the month was August -- we thought we were ready. As the project director, I went to the control center for the launch. At four minutes before the satellite launch, the computer began to go through the checklist of items that needed to be checked. One minute later, the computer program put the launch on hold; the display showed that some control com

US business leader warns of 'double dip' recession
    2008-04-18 00:53:00
The head of a US business executives group warned Thursday that the world's largest economy could endure a "double dip" recession if efforts by the authorities fail to spur growth."If, after the economic stimulus package takes effect and we get into (20)09, and the ... lower interest rates do not kick in, there is a probability of (a) double-dip recession," said Harold McGraw, chairman of Business Roundtable, which represents chief executive officers of leading US companies."That could have serious effects on the other developed countries," said McGraw, who is also head of publishing giant McGraw-Hill.US economic growth has slowed dramatically in recent months and a growing number of economists fear the world's largest economy will experience a recession during the first half of 2008 amid a housing slump and related credit crunch. There is also growing nervousness that the economy might slip back into recession again after a brief recovery in a W-shaped "double dip recession".McGraw, wh

Wimal Weerawansa – An extraordinary leader among the ordinary
    2008-04-09 00:19:05
The marketing people can temporally blow up character of an ordinary person using well planned publicity campaigns on different themes. The white feather of a feeble clown may be presented to general public as a prince of peace. Licking of boots of colonial masters may well be presented as international diplomacy. However those are mere artificial boosting and dumb character will surface with time.In the same time, there are extra ordinary people who are born gifted. They have personality that is unique and excel in multitude of disciplines. Wimal Weerawansa is clearly fallen into that rare category. He is a natural born leader with genuine attraction of common people of the country. He is not mere a politician or political activist, but a man with great visionary and aim. That is why he succeeds in all his social and political endeavors. Wimal Weerawansa is undoubtedly the most eloquent speaker in contemporary politics. 2008-03-25 19:53:02
The haywire twist is a popular method of joining a hook, swivel or lure to single-strand wire leader. When tied correctly the connection is stronger than the wire itself because of the double-wraps. It is a popular knot for trolling and can be used for big and small game leaders when targeting fish with nasty teeth including wahoo, barracuda, mackerel and sharks. The wire prevents the fish biting off the leader. The haywire twist is declining in popularity since the invention of knotable wire trace, but is still a very useful knot to learn. How to tie a haywire twist - video

    Germany is Solar Power Leader
    2008-03-15 16:56:00
Yes, Germany is the leader in harnessing solar power for producing 'green electricity' or concentrating heat. Quite surprising, isn't it? One should have expected any other technologically highly developed country on top position, which is located closer to equator, such as USA, Israel, Japan, Australia, rather than Germany.Even though, the surface of Germany gets only about half of the solar power exposure per square meter in comparison with more equatorial countries, its government and people have decided to considerably support renewable energy sources, such as solar energy, wind farms, geothermal. Their research institutions and industry are more and more successful in new green technologies and they are particularly successful in increasing the rate of efficiency of solar panels, solar shingles and solar heat collectors. The efficiency rate/factor plays a crucial role in determining the future of green-sustainable energy. Higher is this rate, lower is the price of the implementati

    Homeless leader dies
    2008-03-09 12:35:05
From the Nashville Homeless Power Project: Monday March 3, 2008 It is with great sadness that we share that we have lost one of our leaders this last week. Cyndi, several months pregnant, died while sleeping out in the streets. While the exact cause of death is not known, she was a brittle diabetic who often came close to diabetic comas because of difficulty managing her blood sugar while surviving on the streets. Cyndi is best remembered for always celebrating life, being a positive person, who always acknowledged the bright side of every situation. She was a faithful member of the Power Project and one of the first vendors of new paper, the Contributor. More than that, she was a friend to so many of us on the streets. Below is a short autobiography that Cyndi wrote in the recent book- Homeless Power! Atom

The Good Guys Hit the Trifecta - Another Important Terrorist Leader Killed

First, we nailed Al Qaeda commander Abu al-Laith al-Liby (or al-Libi , depending on your dictionary). Then someone (the Israelis? the Syrians ?) stuck Hezbollah commander Imad Mughniyeh , "the Bin Laden of the 80s," in his well-deserved coffin. Now comes word that the Filippino Army has probably found the remains of Dulmatin, a top Jemaah Islamiah member suspected of planning the 2002 Bali bombings which killed over 200, in a grave in the southernmost tip of the Philippines . Top Hezbollah Terrorist Leader Is Killed in Syria
    2008-02-13 11:40:00
February 13, 2008BEIRUT, Lebanon — A top Hezbollah commander long sought by the United States for his role in terrorist attacks that killed hundreds of Americans in the 1980s, died Tuesday night in Damascus, Syria, when a bomb detonated under the vehicle he was in, Syrian officials said.No one claimed responsibility for killing the commander, Imad Mugniyah, who had been in hiding for many years and was one of the most wanted and elusive terrorists in the world.Mr. Mugniyah, 45, was suspected of planning the 1983 bombings of the American Embassy and a Marine barracks in Beirut; the hijacking of a T.W.A. jetliner in 1985; and a series of high-profile kidnappings in the 1980s, among other crimes. Israel accused him of helping to plan the 1992 bombing of its embassy in Buenos Aires, in which 29 people were killed, and the 1994 bombing of a Jewish center in the city, in which 85 people died. The embassy bombing in Beirut was a particularly sharp blow to the United States because a regional

Sermon, "Follow the Leader", by Pastor Ruth L. Foss, January 27, 2008, prepared for worship - Sanbornville, United Methodist Church, Wakefield, NH
    2008-01-27 10:59:00
Matthew 4: 12-23“Follow the Leader”How many of you remember playing follow the leader when you were a child? (pause) I sure remember. As a matter of fact…I still get into a good game of it with my daughters. It gets silly after a while when they realize that I know how to follow their lead. I also liked playing “Simon Says” when I was little…and still do now. It’s all about following the leader. In today’s scripture from Matthew…we see these fisher men playing follow the leader. Jesus came by and said “Follow Me”…and they immediately got into the “game.” Following the leader…what kind of leader was Jesus any way? He wasn’t the type of leader that took things by force…He taught love and patience. He didn’t have a large army of fighting men ready to take over the city…He had a band of fishermen and a tax collector. He even hung out with sinners…prostitutes…tax collectors and the like (for shame!). So what type of leader was He? Why did these men stop what they were doing…walk away from their lives and families they had…just to follow this man…this prophet…of their time? Well…one thing that they may have felt was the urgency of Jesus’ ministry. We have to remember…just before this time…Jesus had been in the desert for 40 days and was tested there by the tempter…now we don’t know if it was actually Satan that tempted Him there but we assume it was Satan…all it tells us is that it was the “tempter…the devil.” Now that His time of tempting was over it was time for Him to get on with His ministry…a ministry of Redemption. This was what He came to earth for…to be that Redemptive “bridge” over the gap that was made in the Garden of Eden…to Redeem humanity back to the life that was lost there. Jesus immediately started to teach in the synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and curing disease and sickness among the people. (Redeeming Grace…was redeeming them …

Edmonton 9/11 Truth Questions Opposition Leader about Canada's Role in Afghanistan
    2007-12-09 09:58:00
Hon. Stephane Dion: “We are not in Afghanistan in retribution for 9/11. Never! Canada is not that kind of a country.”by Wayne PranteDecember 7th, 2007Edmonton, Alberta - Prior to the attacks in New York and Washington, DC on September 11th, 2001, Canada was widely known and respected as a UN Peacekeeping force in conflicts around the world.Shortly after the 9/11 attacks, NATO invoked, for the first time in history (at US request) Article 5 of the NATO Charter, claiming an attack by a foreign nation. President George W. Bush declared some days later, during an internationally televised speech, and in a direct challenge to other nations "you are either with us or you are with the terrorists". Canada, under Liberal Jean Chretien, like other NATO allies, quickly announced that it would participate in Bush's global "War on Terror" and sent troops to Afghanistan. Popular support for that decision was very high.Canada has changed federal governments since the war began, with the Conservatives under PM Stephan Harper now in power, and the mission in Afghanistan has continued. The then Minister of Defence Gordon O'Connor stated in January 2007 that Canadian soldiers were "fighting in Afghanistan in retribution for 9/11". That statement appears to be totally consistent with the Article 5 declaration (the original mission). Members of the Canadian 9/11 Truth Movement, however, feel that, in light of many new facts that have emerged to contradict the 'official 9/11 story', the war is unjustified, illegal and placing Canada's troops unjustifiably in harm's way.The rapidly growing grassroots movement, which now boasts 15 groups (there were none in 2005), is seeking a withdrawal of Canadian Forces, until the Canadian government launches a public investigation into the September 11th attacks. There has never been any official public investigation in Canada into the attacks, even though 24 Canadians died, United Flight 93 (aka Air Canada flight AC4085) was destroyed, and a

9/11: A Terror Psy-op that Changed Canada - Connie Fogal, Leader of CAP
    2007-12-07 14:41:00
From the google video page:The life blood of Canada is being drained and replaced with the cold blood of a military, industrial, financial elite who lust for unlimited power and profit. Is this what you want? The excuse for it is a story full of contradictions and lies. The event of 9/11 was the trigger to justify the end of Canada as we have known it, and loved it, and wanted it to be. 9/11 is the reason for sending our sons and daughters to spill their blood in a foreign land for U.S. control of the world's dwindling oil supply. 9/11 is the trigger to justify a permanent North American war economy to line the pockets of weapons manufacturers. 9/11 is the trigger to starve to death our social programs like medical care, education, unemployment insurance, old age security, pension plans.. All this brought about under the direction and cooperation of our Prime Ministers and their Cabinets, under both Liberal and Conservative party regimes, with no opposition by the NDP, or Bloq Quebecois, or the rising Greens. The Canadian Action Party is your vehicle to take back control of your person and your country. Leader. Why it's important.
    2007-12-03 19:18:00
A leader is a length of monofilament of fluorocarbon line or flexible wire positioned between the main line and hook or lure. A leader can serve 2 purposes: prevent line-shy fish from seeing the more visible main line, and prevent sharp-toothed fish from biting the line in 2. Monofilament leaders are usually between 1 and 3 feel long; most wire leaders range from 6 to 24 inches. Monofilament and fluorocarbon leaders usually have a greater pound-test rating than the main line. A swivel should be used between the leader and the main line to keep the main line from twisting. Because of its transparency, fluorocarbon leader is best for particularly line-shy fish, such as albacore and bonito. Black flexible wire leader is also almost invisible and is effective for sharp-toothed fish, such as mackerel, bluefish, and barracuda. If a wire leader becomes kinked when you're fighting a fish, it has been seriously weakened and should be replaced.

Thus, it is very difficult for businessmen to keep themselves abreast with these factors as their core activity demands more attention. Hence, the best way to deal with this hassle is to bring in a private partner, one with the experience and finances necessary to make the major changes needed, and to make them within the strict timeline required.   On the other side, your web site is probably the most responsive tool in your marketing tool box. Are You a Natual Leader
    2007-11-06 13:57:00
What does a natural leader look like at the age of twenty-five or thirty? The usual attempts to answer that question take the form of laundry lists of personal qualities. These are important, but on their own they can be misleading, especially because the same wonderful personal qualities can be found in political leaders, spiritual leaders, and leaders in sports, many of whom don't have an ounce of talent for business. Besides, many personal traits and capabilities associated with leadership in the past are insufficient today. You have to go beyond the list of personal traits you're looking for to include other indications that a person can succeed in leading a business function, business unit, or whole company in the emerging business context.

What Does Your Finance Leader Like to Do?
    2007-10-22 01:52:06
How good of a fit will your head of finance be? One way to tell is to ask this question, "What Do You Like to Do?" That gives you a very good clue about how he will operate. While in the short term he may be able to change his style, eventually, it should drift back to their preferred way of operating. Let’s consider a couple different answers. I like to train and develop people. This can manifest a couple different ways. You could end up with a larger finance staff than you might need to have.
