| Leadership - The Cornerstone Of Success In The Martial Arts And In Life | | 2008-07-08 15:00:01 | | Leadership - The Cornerstone Of Success In The Martial Arts And In Life was written by Jeffrey Miller from warrior-concepts-online.com Leadership is one of the most talked about and least understood aspects of human behavior. There must be hundreds of definitions of leadership, yet none of them is useful for success in life because none of them allows you to 'create' leadership from within your life. Why is that? | Meta - Leadership: Part II | | 2008-06-24 10:14:00 | | We referenced a good article on "Meta - Leadership" in an earlier post.Although I'm not a big advocate for "leaders" being able to solve all our problems (I much prefer a broad based collaborative model, for all the reasons mentioned in the previous 250 posts), since we live in essentially a quasi-hierarchical model, leaders do have an important role in fostering collaboration and finding workable solutions. But who do we "hire" as leaders and what should their qualifications be?Well first, it would be an important asset to be someone who can find common attributes between concepts, ideas, organizations and people. What makes us similar? How can Group A assist Group B? How can I make the "situation" good for everyone? How do I create a "dynamic" atmosphere for continued positive growth and sustainability. What we don't need is, hire me I have all the answers and I'll take care of your every need. | Struggle of UNP leadership and Major General Janaka Perera’s enter into politics | | 2008-06-21 13:20:41 | | The leadership crisis of UNP has been the talk of SL politics for some time. Ranil Wickramasinghe is now facing immense pressure even from his close allies to step down from his post. The nomination of former military veteran Major General Janaka Perera for the post of Chief Minister of North Central Province has been one of the outcomes of leadership crisis in UNP. This nomination would have never been on the card, if UNP leader Ranil Wickramasinghe was in a stronger position.Janaka Perera is one of the most respected General in Sri Lanka Army. LTTE feared him more than any one else in the battle field. He managed to keep the people in Weli Oya area despite the LTTE terrorist attacks on civilians. He had to work closely with UNP politicians like Gamini Dissanayaka to get the government’s support to develop infrastructure facilities of the villages. However, Janaka Perera was soon branded as a UNP supporter because he worked closely with UNP politicians.LTTE terrorists faced their mo | | By: Lanka Rising | | |

| Leadership: The Art Of Manifesting Your Genius | | 2008-06-05 11:06:10 | | By Christopher MoonIn Vision Mountain Here's a quick quiz:1. Is your day filled with activities that consist of doing what you love to do?2. Does what you do enrich the life of at least one other person?3. Are you well supported financially to do what you love?If you answered these questions with a resounding yes, you are one of the few people in the world that is fully manifesting your genius. As such you are a true leader and we are blessed to have your brilliant example in this world. As sincere and well-meaning as many of us are, human beings are often so hampered by lives filled with compromise, misplaced loyalties, insecurity, and false beliefs, that the idea of fully expressing our genius is little more than a wistful fantasy. Why is it so scary for us to simply do what our hearts want us to do? Why do we feel that we will not be supported emotionally and financially if we were to express what is really great about us? | The Idea of Leadership | | 2008-05-21 11:15:15 | |
I really don't want to continue to harp on this Jason Taylor crap, but there's an interesting angle in all of this that I wanted to touch on. I saw this fanpost by "jvw" and it got me thinking. Should Taylor even be considered a leader anymore? Or are his "Hollywood dreams" getting in the way?
Taylor writes in his ESPN.com blog:
I know what the reaction's going to be: Oh, he's the leader of that team, and he needs to be there. But, see, there're different types of leadership in sports. There're guys that can talk all the time, and try to lead by saying: "Oh, this is what we need to do, let's go, rah, rah rah.'' They're rah-rah guys. And then they're guys, like me, who lead by example. And people are saying now, "Your example should be being there working out with the team.'' Well, at the end of the day, I will show up and I will do anything I need to do, and I will be the best football player I can be.
Now to me, leading by example means just that: leading by you | | By: The Phinsider

| The agenda of LTTE: Formulating infertile political leadership in the country | | 2008-05-13 08:56:28 | | For over two decades, it is only a single military and political leadership that has been prevailing under the fascist rule in the Wanni jungle. That is LTTE self appointed supremo Piripaharan. In the mean time, there have been five presidents ruling the country and military leadership has passed from hand to hand due to logistics and other rules of the country. Piripaharan is having only a single mission that is to defend and rule his territory by fascist iron fist. He has simply killed and eliminated political and military threats from the Tamil society. In the contrary, the political leadership in the South has to pay attention to multitude of problems of the country ranging from economic development to social and political issues.LTTE political wing with the support form of INGO’s have actively involved in destabilising economy and political structure in the south. | Breaking Down Buffalo's Roster Leadership | | 2008-05-06 09:41:50 | |
Stroud will be counted on as leader in '08 (Photo Source)
Leadership may be a bit of a cliche when it comes to discussing NFL rosters, but the fact of the matter is that good NFL teams have good leaders. Whether that leadership comes in the form of coaching, star quarterbacks or even punters, NFL rosters these days are so full of young players that it takes a certain type of leadership structure to get the most out of that inexperienced talent. Just look at how the leadership of the 2007 New York Giants milked outstanding play out of several rookies en route to their Super Bowl championship.
With one of the youngest rosters in the league, where does Buffalo's leadership come from? That's the question we'll attempt to answer this morning. Due to the youth of the roster, especially at key positions, Buffalo's roster leadership structure is slightly different than those of teams like the Patriots and Colts, who have natural leaders at the quarterback position.& | | By: Buffalo Rumblings

| Brown praises Clooney's leadership! | | 2008-04-09 04:22:14 | | Gordon Brown knows leadership when he sees it. That is in others and not in himself. Our Prime minister has been talking about Darfur for as long as is humanly possible. Nothing much gets done. George Clooney is a UN Ambassador for peace, and is very much involved in bringing the plight of Darfur to the attention of world leaders.Brown said the situation in Darfur, which is part of Sudan, was "unacceptable" and praised Mr Clooney's "leadership". He went on to say, ""In February and March alone, fighting displaced 58,000 people. Humanitarian access is limited and Unamid (United Nations African Union Mission in Darfur) deployment is still too slow. The rebels and government continue to openly flout United Nations Security Council resolutions through attacks on civilians. I am grateful for the leadership George Clooney has shown in drawing attention to this crisis - this is a humanitarian tragedy of colossal proportions and the world must take note and act." The following entry is from Common Sense Anew:In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. LEADERSHIP
With all the problems in society today, we have to question the effectiveness of our leaders and their ability to lead. Are they true leaders? Just because someone is in charge does not necessarily mean he or she is a leader. Leaders take society in a positive direction. We have been taken nowhere by people who resemble rulers. They couldn't care less about moving society forward; their motives are purely selfish. Rulers are not interested in leading, they just want to be in charge and have the power that comes with position. Rulers seize any opportunity to grab more power.Leaders have a great respect for power. Leaders are able to govern with minimal power. Leaders understand that it is not the power that makes someone a leader. If we are to save our democracy, we need leaders, not more rulers. A ruler cannot lead a democracy, and a leader will never rule a democracy. We need to learn and understand the difference between leaders and rulers, and what they represent. To help, I wrote the following piece, titled "Leaders and Rulers."Leaders and RulersPeople will follow a leader because they want to; people follow a ruler because they have to.Leaders place people's needs before people's wants; rulers place people's wants before people's needs.Leaders create a society of willingness to help; rulers cause a society of unwillingness to help.Leaders create an atmosphere of encouragement; rulers cause an atmosphere of discouragement.Leaders place their needs with the people's needs; rulers place their needs far above everyone.Leaders take responsibility for their mistakes; | | By: Miscellaneous Reflexions

| Six sigma leadership | | 2007-09-16 21:18:50 | | Two six sigma quotes I highlighted to myself recently. The first was from The Six Sigma Leader by Peter Pande:
“Studies have repeatedly shown that the high failure rate of many promising leaders is largely due to an over-reliance on a limited set of capabilities. Many times leaders are promoted because of a strong record of achievement, only to derail later because of their inability to adapt. For example, an individual may be good at demanding high performance from his or her followers, or have strong technical ability. However, those strengths are not sufficient when, for example, big-picture thinking or relationship building are also essential to success. To prepare yourself and others for growing challenges, you need the clarity of thought and flexibility to understand your own weaknesses and develop new talents.”
The second was from The Six Sigma Handbook by Thomas Pyzdek:
“It would be a mistake to think that Six Sigma is about quality in the traditional sense. Quality, defi | | By: learn about lean & six-sigma

| Gotta Get Me Some of That Veteran Leadership | | 2007-07-03 21:21:00 | | Isn't it touching when baseball veterans feel the need to impose their knowledge on talented young players who may not need it? Especially when one of them has never, ever been good at baseball? When Hunter Pence went 0-for-4 the other night, Craig Biggio pulled him aside and offered some advice. "Look, go back to the cage right now," he said. "Don't wait until tomorrow. You'll go back there mad and hit until you're exhausted. By the time you leave, it'll feel right again."Hunter Pence is batting .342, in his first season, at the age of 24. He's OPS-ing .948. Does he really need Mr. 3000 to send him back to the cage because he went 0-4 in one game? Obviously, whatever he's doing is working very well. Craig Biggio, on the other hand, is OPS-ing .701. Hey Craig, I know you're 41 and all, but get your ass back in that cage until you're OPS-ing .916 like you did in 1997 (which was a career high, and still worse than Pence is hitting in his rookie year). | Some good lessons in leadership. | | 2007-06-21 16:22:00 | | Leadership demands the expression of an authentic self. Try to lead like someone else - say, Jack Welch, Richard Branson or Michael Dell - and you will fail. Employees will not follow a CEO who invests little of himself in his leadership behaviours. People want to be led by someone real. Leaders and followers both associate authenticity with sincerity, honesty, and integrity. It is the real thing - the attribute that uniquely defines great leaders. But while the expression of an authentic self is necessary for great leadership, the concept of authenticity is often misunderstood, not least by leaders themselves. They often assume that authenticity is an innate quality - that a person is either authentic or not. In fact, authenticity is a quality that others must attribute to you. No leader can look into a mirror and say, "I am authentic." A person cannot be authentic on his or her own. | Leadership Ability and GUTS | | 2007-05-11 13:51:00 | | My youngest daughter has some guts. At her age I would have never had the confidence she does. She decided a few weeks ago that her after school tutoring program needed a talent show for it’s last day. So, she asked the teachers if she could put one together.Yesterday they had it. She, of course, was the M.C. and had a clipboard with the order all printed out (I helped her make it look cool on the computer). She was also in several acts including singing a solo (with the singer singing on the CD in the background). She did it with flair, style, and several cool dance moves. Her sister and I went to see it and we both were amazed at her bravery. Neither of us would have ever done anything like that (and I’m far from shy).Great Job Sadie! | | By: Never a Dull Moment | | |

| Corporate Governance and Transparent Leadership | | 2007-02-02 08:57:00 | | Corporate disclosure has always been a sore point between
stakeholders and the management. The decision on what must
go into the public domain is difficult due in part to the reality
that companies thrive primarily on well-kept business secrets
of success. These are legitimate concerns although history had
also uncovered improper practices which were well-hidden and
protected under the cloak

| Leadership: A Winning Attitude | | 0000-00-00 00:00:00 | | Capitalism is founded upon competition. In a free market, local retailers vie for the dollars in consumers’ pockets. Promising young managers try to outperform one another to earn a coveted promotion. Salespersons battle against one another to land the account of a major customer.
In the competitive arena, leaders play to win. By nature, they are [...] | | By: PJLightHouse
