    CHEAP LENSES & FRAMES
    2008-08-03 11:46:00
Glasses can be seen in 2 ways really. Either you hate them or you find them sexy.If you do have to wear glasses it should at least be the latter.Glasses are just like having an accessory to match, but are even more important because they are the focus of your face, and what everyone looks at first. So you need to make sure that you have stylish eyeglasses at least. You can pick up some great glasses from Zenni Optical. They have a massive variety of designs starting from as little as $8. They come in different lenses too like single vision, sunsensor, tinted, bifocal and progressive lens.Zenni only sell their own manufactured frames direct to the customer, with no middleman in between so they can keep their prices down as low as ever.I used to wear glasses myself before i had laser correction, so these would have been ideal for me at the time. The ones i would have chosen is the picture above, because i like to stand out in the crowd. But its not all loud glasses. Ther...

Zeiss ZF Lenses - High Performance For Nikon and Canon
    2008-07-31 11:33:00
In this era of plastic-barreled mass-produced lenses, the Zeiss ZF lenses stand out in sleekly-elegant fashion, with their beautiful and durable all-metal design. For the past year, I’ve used the entire Zeiss ZF lines extensively on both Canon EOS and Nikon, with outstanding results(see the diglloyd blog beginning June 2008). My Guide, Zeiss ZF Lenses, goes into depth on the lenses. This page captures my thoughts on this superb lens line. If you’d like specifications on weight, size, etc, please see the Zeiss web site; this review won’t go into that stuff. You might also want to see the Zeiss July 2008 Camera Lens News. The unanswerable question that will invariably be asked is whether the Zeiss ZF lenses are “worth it”—are they actually “better” than an equivalent Nikon or Canon lenses? There is no unequivocal answer to that question unless priorities are specified. Here are just a few of the considerations: * Wide-open vs stopped-down sharpness and contrast throughout ...

Shift lenses and Nikon TS-E 24/3.5 first impressions
    2008-07-12 13:31:00
First impressions of the Nikon TS-E 24mm f/3.5 tilt/shiftThe 24 T/S is a bit chunky in size (as it must be to tilt and shift), but is a very nice handling lens. It is built to similar standards as the several-year old Nikon 85 f/2.8D PC-Micro-Nikkor tilt/shift. However, the new “PC-E” design offers electronic aperture control, a boon for usability on the D3/D300/D700, but a big disappointment for those of us who like to shoot Nikon lenses also on Canon EOS bodies via an adapter; the aperture cannot be controlled with such adapters. The good news is that optical performance is very high. Having used the Canon 24/3.5L T/S and the Olympus 24/3.5 shift (but not owning either at the moment) I suggest the following: the Nikon offering appears to be the best yet available in the 24mm tilt/shift realm. Congratulations Nikon! Color fringing is very well controlled (and completely eliminated by Capture NX 2), flare control is excellent, and color and detail rendition are high. However, when f...

    colored contact lenses
    2008-04-26 10:58:00
I've always been fascinated by colored contact lenses.I've occasionally changed my color from brown to blue, but I was never completely satisfied with the results, because the brown would always come through the blue lenses, and you were able to tell that they were colored contacts.Today I discovered something that probably the rest of the world already knows, but since I don't (try not to) read gossip columns, I just didn't know: Paris Hilton's real eye color is brown. For some reason, this newly discovered useless piece of information has struck a chord with me:1. It gave me hope that it is possible to find natural looking blue lenses for brown eyes.2. It made me sad because here is a girl that has completely repudiated her own brown eyes.I like my brown eyes, and even though I've fantasized about having light colored eyes, I couldn't imagine disowning my eyes like that.I've actually had thoughts like: "what if I meet my soul mate while I'm wearing my blue contacts, and it's love at f...

Canon celebrates production of 40 million EF lenses
    2008-04-24 06:16:00
TOKYO, April 23, 2008—Canon Inc. today announced the achievement of a new lens-production milestone as production of the company's EF lenses passed the 40-million mark.Production of interchangeable EF lenses for Canon EOS-series AF (autofocus) single-lens reflex cameras began in 1987 at the company's Utsunomiya Plant. Canon commemorated the production of its 10 millionth EF lens in August 1995, its 20 millionth in February 2001, its 30 millionth in January 2006 and, a mere two years and three months later, has now surpassed the 40-million-unit mark. This achievement reflects users' high level of satisfaction with the innovative technology and quality offered by EF lenses, as well as with Canon's marketing operations and service.Canon's proprietary EF lens, born in March 1987 along with the EOS SLR camera system, marked a new direction in the future of AF systems and soon garnered attention for its use of a large-diameter fully electronic lens mount and an internal autofocus motor. Portrait Lenses for the Canon EOS system
    2008-03-23 13:26:00
Probably the first thing to be said about portrait lenses is that you can take a portrait with just about any lens ever made. However some lenses tend to give better results than others, which is the point of this article. It's mostly about perspective. For "normal" portraits, does the lens render the image the way that you normally experience it - in other words does the portrait actually look like the person being portrayed? If it does then the lens might be considered a good portrait lens. If it doesn't, it would be more of a "special effects" lens. Now some people think that it's the focal length of the lens that governs perspective, but they'd be wrong. If you compare normal rectilinear lenses (i.e. not with fisheye lenses), the perspective is determined only by your distance from the subject. The size of the subject is determined by the focal length. So if you are 100ft from a deer and you take a picture with a 20mm lens and a 200mm lens, the deer will be 10x larger with the longe...

    2008-03-20 13:27:00

    2008-02-18 12:08:00
Now that you've got that new DSLR, how about some glass to go with it? Here's a quick roundup of the latest zooms and primes hitting store shelves.Lens makers opened the flood gates in late 2007 and early 2008, announcing brand-new glass, expanding the camera compatibility of existing lenses, and finally putting a release date on some long-awaited optics. The new lenses have already started arriving in stores, and will continue to trickle out in a steady stream over the next several months. If you like to buy from third-party lens makers, who generally charge less for their optics than camera manufacturers, there are plenty of new options for you. Sigma, Tamron, and Tokina have come out with both new lens designs and numerous versions of existing lenses with new mounts and motors to make them compatible with a greater range of cameras. One nice thing about buying a lens that is newly available for your camera but has been around for a while for other brands is that it will probably have...

Contact Lenses - Many Options to Consider
    2008-02-14 17:11:00
Most people who wear glasses don't maintain a regular schedule of getting eye exams. As long as they can see, they consider another eye exam a low priority. In fact, many only have an exam when their glasses break or wear out. By handling your eye care this way, you're not doing yourself any favors, and in the end you'll spend more money than you would have for annual exams. Many spectacle wearers don't really pay too much attention to the frequency of their eye exams. Often they will only return to their eye doctor when their current pair of glasses is in need of repair or replacement. Contrary to belief, eye exams are very important for many reasons and it is critical to your eye health to have them examined once a year.An optician or ophthalmologist is a health professional who is specially trained to look for and treat disorders of the eyes. Eye disorders such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and other problems can destroy vision, cause blindness, and undermine a person's overall ...
