| Panama City Beach Library | | 2008-08-10 21:34:57 | | Panama City Beach LibraryOriginally uploaded by dbigwoodWhile on vacation I stopped into the library to check my e-mail. I was greeted by a person at the front desk. Very friendly, not like the Wal-Mart greeters. I was able to use the machine to check my email, Facebook page, and OK some comments to this weblog. Nothing seemed to be blocked. There was a 30 minute a day time limit, it seems a silly rule, if the machines are empty, but....While I was there other folks were using the computers browsing the fiction, reading a magazine. It was a very small library, but they did have a childrens' collection and provided story time. They caught me taking this picture and asked about it, curious not snooping. | | By: Catalogablog | | |

| Cerritos Public Library- Not your ordinary library | | 2008-06-18 02:00:00 | | A reader emailed me last week and suggested that I visit the Cerritos Public Library. If you are looking for places to visit this summer- this is a must!!! The Cerritos Library Children's Area is modeled more after a children's museum than a library. My kids loved it from the moment they stepped into the building. The Children's library is located on the ground floor and the children's area is united by a theme of saving the planet. My kiddos were mesmerized from the start by the library's 15,000 gallon saltwater aquarium. They could have stayed for hours admiring the many colorful fish. Educational exhibits in the Children's area include Stan, a 40-foot long, 12-foot high authentic Tyrannosaurus-rex replica. My son Michael fell in love with Stan. The library also has a scale-model NASA Space Shuttle called the "Spirit of Cerritos," a lighthouse with a siting area, which was also a big hit with my kiddos . | Does the Internet Decrease Library Use? | | 2008-06-02 02:48:00 | | The new Main Library in Champaign is set to open on January 6, 2008. This momentous occasion reminds me of a debate that used to occur when the new facility was being planned. One particular argument against building the new library was that increasing use of the Internet leads to decreasing use of physical library facilities. This is completely false, and in fact, the opposite is true.In 1990, per capita circulation at the Champaign Public Library was 13.9 materials per year, and by the year 2000, per capita circulation had increased to 15.8 materials annually. According to their 2006/2007 annual report, the library had an annual circulation of 1,786,773. When you take this against Champaign’s population of 75,254 (which was recently adjusted upward due to a special census,) the annual per capita circulation comes in at an astounding 23.7.This blows away the current national average of approximately seven to nine materials per year, depending upon whom you ask and how you measure it | | By: Geeks Undercover | | |

| Pilliyan’s Visit to Dalada Maligawa and crocodile tears of looters of Jaffna library | | 2008-05-26 23:54:13 | | One of the very first functions of Chief Minister of Eastern province was to visit Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy. This happened to be a historic occasion in Sri Lanka history. Sri Dalada Maligawa was attacked by LTTE terrorists in 1995 killing many devotees and severely damaging the sacred place. Dalada Maligawa is the most sacred place of whole Buddhist world where tooth relic of the Buddha is placed. Sri Lankan Buddhists are privileged to have this holy asset that is respected by millions of Buddhists in the world. From ancient days the tooth relic is cared and worshipped in similar manner to worshipping the living Buddha. It is sheer cultural jealousy of LTTE terrorists that lead to attack of Sri Dalada Maligawa. Not only Dalada Maligawa, but also Jaya Siri Maha Bodhi (Bo tree) of Anuradhapura was made a blood bath by ruthless LTTE terrorists. Hundreds of devotees were brutally gun down on a poya day. There were mass murdering of Buddhist monks in Aranthalawa and many other occasions. | | By: Lanka Rising | | |

| Library for Report Painter/Writer SAP FICO Report Painter | | 2008-04-03 05:07:40 | | I just have one question regarding Report Writer/Painter
Is it possible to create new library based on whatever table we want which
is not SAP installed. For exmaple, in PCA, there is standard library
8A2 which si based on GLPCT. Is it possible to create new library based on
table say GLPCA? If so, what's menu path to add table in Library?
I am on 3.1H. TIA -----Reply Message-----
Subject: RE: Library for Report Painter/Writer As consultants always say:
"Do you really want to create reports on table GLPCA?".
All the information is in GLPCT and in addition performance with reporting
on GLPCA would probably be very bad. I wanted to get period information form PCA. And it looks like GLPCT does
not give records per period (period field is 16 or other value) but only the
cumulative values per period are stored in specific fields. So i thought I
needed a report on GLPCA, but I use libraries based on GLPTC to get the
information from GLPCA. Apparently by selecting periods (RPMAX) in reports,

| Library | | 2008-03-04 23:07:53 | | There was a forum topic somewhere recently... I wish I could find it now, but the funny stuff was in the comments... where someone was complaining about the high costs of books. Someone else joined in and wished there were only some place where you could BORROW books and take them back after you’ve read them. Yeah, it was funny calling someone out on their ignorance, but more and more young folks aren’t even familiar with the wonderful placec we call a library. Go get a book, read it, take it back so someone else can read it. I can’t really fault the kids, since library budgets are strained like never before. They must buy fewer new books and cut back hours and programs because there is so little money to cover it all. It’s a shame. One of these days, we’ll take a look and decide it’s more important to spend out money educating ourselves and our kids than it is to fight preemptive wars. Cheers for the Library! | Have you visited your public library lately? | | 2008-02-19 21:00:00 | | Sure there are lots of books to check out and read with your kids, but the library has many more things to do other than reading books. Our library here in Yorba Linda has all sorts of free events for young children. One of activites is called "Laptime." Children ages 0 to 2 and an adult can share stories, rhymes, puppets, fingerplays and music activities. Best of all, this is free. The library requires that you sign up and gives Yorba Linda residents first priority. For children 3 to 5, the library has a similar activity. These last for 30 minutes and are held once a week. Our library even has a family time where the whole family is invited for a 45 minute activity on Saturdays. | Library Funding | | 2007-12-20 09:27:37 | | In the latest Thinking Out Loud with George and Joan George Needham revealed a startling finding from the next OCLC report. That library use does not correlate with library support. We can't assume that our members will support us in a bond issue. Nor can we assume those not using the library won't support funding. Rallying our members for a tax increase or bond issue is not the best way to get funding. We have to mobilize our supporters, whether members or not. A mother lost track of her two-year old son and then I lost track of her because she decided to go in the opposite direction of where I was headed (circulation desk, so the higher-ups could make an announcement) but it ended well. Her son was sitting at a table in [...] | | By: the cloudy dreamer/stacy | | |

| Texas Library Association Annual Conference | | 2007-12-02 16:21:46 | | I'm signed up for TLA. Did it too late to get a decent rate on a conference hotel so I'll be staying behind the convention center. From the map it looks close, not a bad walk. I'm on the ballot for councilor for the Digital Library group. So, I'll be going there and to the TRGCC events.Last Spring I suggested they have Cali Lewis on the program. She lives in Dallas and has a video podcast, Geekbrief. Her story is great, two years ago she was working at a u-rent-space place and heard about podcasting. Without any experience she and her husband started one . Now, that is their job. She has been on TV and rubs shoulders with Web 2.0 luminaries. Since I was the one to suggest her, I hope she gets a good turnout. I should be there unless it conflicts with the DL or TRGCC events, or its part of a preconference workshop. Hope not. | | By: Catalogablog | | |

| Long Island 3.0 Open Code Library, Build It - Connect: Part One | | 2007-10-16 14:28:00 | | Part of the mission of "One Long Island" is to make it easy for all Long Islanders to develop and utilize tools that assist the process of a more dynamic and collaborative Long Island. These tools may already be in existence or they may be developed as the need arises. The point is to make them available and easy to use thus unlocking the creativity of as many different Long Islanders as possible from as many disciplines as possible.More in part two. | | By: Long Island Idea Factory | | |

| Long Island Internet Public Library: Part One | | 2007-10-16 13:30:00 | | Based upon this idea and really just another way to conceptualize our Long Island Metadata Portal project.Although the more I think about it, I suppose a good case could be made for the Long Island Internet Public Library being a sub-component of the Long Island Metadata Portal. Something similar here but I can't quite determine the scope of the project. Might be a useful building block in the overall "One Long Island" project however. We'll explore that idea in later posts. | | By: Long Island Idea Factory | | |

| CCA Library Blog | | 2007-09-22 01:37:27 | | For over a week I have been trying to find other students who are blogging about the CCA or any art school for that matter, and I have been deeply disapointed.
However, I just found the CCA Library's blog. How funny! They even have their library orientation video up. | | By: CCA Confidential | | |

| Library Card Sign-up Month | | 2007-09-11 20:38:07 | | September is Library Card Sign-up Month. It is also library card renewal month at MPOW, the Lunar and Planetary Institute. In my latest podcast I used the 10 second clip from ALA to reinforce the renewal message. (I felt like a sound engineer getting it the right volume and speed.) They have other lengths that might meet your needs better. Thanks ALA. | | By: Catalogablog | | |

| Huge Casual Game Library Available for Wii | | 2007-08-15 19:31:01 | | Savvy to the fact that the Wii is being touted as the non-core gamer's console of choice, Knibble.com has launched a site of Wii-enabled casual games.Wii.Knibble.com offers more than 5,000 casual games like Bejeweled and Solitaire, all tweaked to be Wii-compatible. To get there, just select the Internet Channel on your Wii, then put in the Knibble (I keep wanting to call it Kibble) site and voila: a bevy of casual gaming awaits, without having to download a single thing. Granted, with a library that big, you have to figure that most of the games are going to be pretty lousy, but there's undoubtedly some gems to be had.Source: Game|Life Online Games Wii | | By: Online Games | | |
