    European Dream Ends For Liverpool
    2008-05-01 11:00:00
Liverpool's dream of going to the European Champions League Final against Manchester United ended on the field at Stamford Bridge in London last night, as Chelsea won the second leg of the semifinal with a thrilling 3-2 win.The match ended with a 1-1 tie, but since the first leg also ended with the same score, the match continued into extra time. Chelsea had a goal called back because they were offsides early in the extra session, but won a penalty kick moments later and Frank Lampard shot it home to put Chelsea on top. They added another goal to make it 3-1 from Didier Drogba, his second of the contest. It looked like it was all over, but Liverpool wouldn't go quietly into the night. With three minutes to play, Ryan Babel hit a screaming drive that goaltender Petr Chec couldn't catch up with, and Liverpool still had life. As the Merseyside faithful was dreaming of a comeback like three years ago in the final at Istanbul (and I couldn't help but think of the 2004 Red Sox again), time ra

Arsenal, egal cu Liverpool si in Premier League!
    2008-04-06 05:31:00

I never thought that there would be a day where I would thank Liverpool. They managed to held a 1-1 draw with Arsenal, which keep them 5 points behind Manchester United. It's kinda ironic, judging from the fact prior to the match, Arsenal's Arsene Wenger was talking about giving more pressure to Manchester United. Wenger believes that United will drop some points at the end of the season, and

Invece stecca ogni calcio piazzato. Costringe l'Inter, già in affanno, a rimanere in 10.

    LIVERPOOL VS WEST HAM UNITED
    2008-01-29 19:41:00
Wednesday 30 January 2008 19:45The Reds head to Upton Park still searching for their first league win of 2008.A run of four consecutive draws has seen us fall out of the top four and left our hopes of a maintaining a sustained title challenge in major doubt. But Liverpool's away record has been a major plus so far this season and we will need to reproduce the type of form that has seen us win at Villa Park and Goodison Park if we are to leave London with all three points.Alan Curbishley's men have already shown that they can mix it with the best at Upton Park, as Manchester United found out to their cost in December. So it promises to be a tough test for Rafa and his team and a repeat of last season's 2-1 victory would be the pefect respite for a year that has so begun in frustration in the Premier League.

Taça de Inglaterra : 3ª eliminatória - Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea em frente. Liverpool desilude
    2008-01-06 17:00:00

    DERBY COUNTY vs LIVERPOOL
    2007-12-25 20:00:00
At Pride ParkWednesday, 26 DecemberKick-off: 1500 GMTWhen the two sides met at Anfield back on September 1, it was a clear case of 'Rams to the slaughter.'The Reds were in rampant mood as they hit six of the best to leave the Premier League newcomers in no doubt as to what it would take to survive in English football's top Division.Since then Derby have continued to struggle against relegation but there have been signs that they won't go down without a fight, and they showed they can match anyone on their day with a notable victory at home to Newcastle. In new manager Paul Jewell they have someone who has masterminded the great escape with both Bradford City and Wigan Athletic, and although the Rams may struggle to avoid the drop this time around, they are already beginning to show the fighting spirit characterised by their manager. The last time Liverpool visited Pride Park in December 2001, they secured a narrow 1-0 victory courtesy of a Michael Owen goal and they were also grateful to Jerzy Dudek for a fabulous penalty save to deny Fabrizio Ravanelli.Another three points this time around would be the perfect post-Christmas gift for the Reds in what is a hectic festive schedule.Derby skipper Matt Oakley remains a doubt with the groin strain that forced him out of the draw at Newcastle.Stephen Bywater picked up a shoulder injury and Darren Moore a back problem in the match at St James' Park but both are expected to face Liverpool.Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez is likely to make changes with a tough trip to Manchester City looming next Sunday.Ryan Babel, Andriy Voronin, Fabio Aurelio, Lucas and Jack Hobbs could all be in line for a starting place.Derby (from): Bywater, Mears, Moore, McEveley, Leacock, Barnes, Edworthy, Oakley, Pearson, Lewis, Fagan, Howard, Miller, Teale, Earnshaw, Feilhaber, Holmes, Price.Liverpool (from): Reina, Arbeloa, Carragher, Hobbs, Hyypia, Riise, Aurelio, Benayoun, Gerrard, Alonso, Mascherano, Kewell, Babel, Lucas, Sissoko, Crouch, Kuyt,

    LIVERPOOL vs PORTSMOUTH
    2007-12-21 21:34:00
UPDATE RESULT : LIVERPOOL 4 - 1 PORTSMOUTH Saturday 22 December 2007 ,15:00At Anfield Liverpool welcome Harry Redknapp's high-flying Portsmouth to Anfield determined to give the home crowd some much-needed Christmas cheer following last weekend's disappointing 1-0 loss to Manchester United. The narrow defeat to Alex Ferguson's side was our first league defeat on home soil this season, and followed on from the 3-1 reversal at Reading. It is a run of results that has seen Rafael Benitez's men slip 10 points behind league leaders Arsenal and means the game in hand they have over the other title contenders has become even more significant.A run of victories over the festive period, beginning with Pompey, will go some way to enhancing our chances of catching the Gunners and the Reds received an early Christmas gift during the past week, with the news that Xabi Alonso is fit following the metatarsal injury he picked up in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal on October 28.The two sides met earlier in the campaign when Pepe Reina's penalty save from Kanu secured a 0-0 draw for the Reds at Fratton Park. The visitors are currently sitting in seventh place, level on 30 points with Liverpool, and they have been inspired form on the road of late, with crushing victories over Aston Villa and Newcastle United.Liverpool will have to be at their best if they are to secure their first win in four attempts against Harry Redknapp's side and get their Premier League title hopes back on track.Liverpool are set to shuffle their pack and now have midfielder Xabi Alonso available after he came through unscathed against Chelsea in midweek. Peter Crouch is banned for three matches and Steve Finnan is doubtful with a calf problem, while Daniel Agger remains sidelined with a foot injury. Portsmouth defender Noe Pamarot (hamstring) is out and midfielder Sean Davis (ankle) is a doubtful starter. Hermann Hreidarsson is set to return and Pedro Mendes could keep his place. Liverpool (f

    Chelsea vs Liverpool
    2007-12-19 03:18:00
Stamford Bridge19 December 2007Kick-off: 19.45Predict : Chelsea 0 - 2 LiverpoolLiverpool will be hoping they can maintain their impressive cup form against Chelsea when they travel to Stamford Bridge for a mouthwatering Carling Cup quarter-final tie.The Reds have held the Indian sign over the Londoners in knockout competitions in the past few seasons and they will be aiming to continue that against new boss Avram Grant and co.Although Chelsea have suffered at the hands of Liverpool in both the Champions League and the FA Cup, the last time they met in the Carling Cup was in the 2005 final, when Jose Mourinho's men clinched a 3-2 win after extra-time.This time around the Reds have reached the last eight with an impressive Torres-inspired victory at Reading and a narrow 2-1 win against Robbie Fowler's Cardiff, but there is no doubt a trip to Stamford Bridge will provide our sternest test yet.Chelsea needed two late goals to edge into this stage after Leicester had looked like causing a massive upset when they led 3-2 with just three minutes remaining. But it was not meant to be and after Shevchenko levelled, Frank Lampard snatched a winner in injury-time to clinch his hat-trick.Both sides have strength-in-depth and there are likely to be a number of big names on show as Liverpool aim to snare their first win at Stamford Bridge since Bruno Cheyrou gave Gerard Houllier's men a 1-0 victory in January, 2004.Michael Ballack returns to the Chelsea side for the first time since April for the Carling Cup quarter-final against Liverpool after two ankle operations.Ricardo Carvalho is also fit to play, but key duo John Terry (foot) and Didier Drogba (knee) will miss out.Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard is out with a stomach bug, but Xabi Alonso could return after a 10-match absence because of a metatarsal injury.Steve Finnan is doubtful with a calf problem, while Daniel Agger is out.Chelsea : Cech, Cudicini, Hilario, Belletti, Ferreira, A Cole, Carvalho, Alex, Ben-Haim, J

    Liverpool vs Man Utd
    2007-12-15 23:03:00
AnfieldSunday, 16 DecemberKick-off: 13.30 Predict : Liverpool 2 : 1 Man UtdLiverpool welcome arch-rivals Manchester United to Anfield knowing that a win will not only seriously enhance their title credentials but will also secure a landmark 50th League victory over the Red Devils. The two sides have met 148 times prior to this season's top-of-the-table clash, with Alex Ferguson's team enjoying the better of the head-to-heads, with 56 victories.Since arriving in Liverpool back in the summer of 2005 Rafa Benitez has not endured the best of results against United with our only victory to-date, the 1-0 FA Cup success in 2006.But the Reds are still unbeaten in the Premier League at Anfield and after outplaying United for long periods in the 1-0 defeat last season, they will feel they have more than enough quality to grab their first league win over their East Lancs rivals in six attempts.Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso is set to return to the squad after a two- month absence with a metatarsal injury.Defender Steve Finnan is doubtful because of a calf problem while Javier Mascherano is OK despite taking a heavy bang on his leg against Marseille.Sir Alex Ferguson is reporting a clean bill of health, with John O'Shea (abductor strain) the only minor doubt.Owen Hargreaves has recovered from the calf injury he sustained in the warm-up prior to Saturday's win over Derby.Liverpool (from): Reina, Arbeloa, Carragher, Hyypia, Riise, Kewell, Gerrard, Mascherano, Benayoun, Alonso, Kuyt, Torres, Aurelio, Babel, Crouch, Finnan, Hobbs, Itandje, Leiva, Voronin, Sissoko.Man Utd (from): Van der Sar, Kuszczak, Brown, Simpson, Ferdinand, Vidic, Pique, O'Shea, Evra, Ronaldo, Nani, Fletcher, Anderson, Hargreaves, Carrick, Giggs, Rooney, Saha, Tevez.Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez:"We are in good shape after winning in Marseille.

Champs League Roundup: Liverpool Routs Marseille To Advance
    2007-12-11 15:59:00
Liverpool pulled out an impressive victory at Marseille's Stade Velodrome tonight, beating down their hosts by a four goal margin to advance to the Champions League Round of 16. Steven Gerrard put in his own penalty kick rebound four minutes into the game and Marseille never recovered. Four different Reds scored in all as Rafa Benitez' side proved they belong among the final 16. The victory completes an impressive turnaround for Liverpool, who appeared in dire straights after losing their third match day game at Besiktas Istanbul. Stevie G and friends cranked out three straight victories after that, by a total goal difference of 16:1.No major surprises to report in the three other games of meaning that were played today; Porto, Schalke, Real Madrid and Olympiakos all won at home to advance. I am spared the embarrassment of having one of my Top 10 teams bow out (that would be #2 Real, #7 Porto or #10 Olympiakos, in case you're scoring at home). On the other hand, it may be time to ma

Porto vence e ganha o Grupo à frente do Liverpool
    2007-12-11 15:38:00

Hopefully we will have learned from last time and if he is playing we will know what to do."Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez:"I think it will be difficult for all our players as Reading are physical and they are strong. It is especially difficult for the strikers."But Torres is strong enough and he also has ability and good movement, so if the team is playing well he can manage with the physical game."Torres can produce good movement and it will be difficult to control him."BIG-MATCH FACTSReading will have to break Liverpool's unbeaten record, if they are to achieve a first ever Premier League victory against one of the so called "big four".Liverpool have won twice as many league games as the Royals this season (eight to four); Reading have lost nine more (nine to none).Liverpool did the double ov

Liverpool’s Kuyt: Babel Can Become Premiership Sensation
    2007-11-30 09:46:51
Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt believes summer-signing Ryan Babel can become Premiership ‘sensation’. Of late, Babel, who joined the Reds during the summer from Ajax for £11m fee, is showing the full array of his talent and his masterly finish off a move set up by skipper Steven Gerrard in the 3-0 win at Newcastle United last weekend, has earned from his fellow Dutch international a lavish praise. Babel, who has been dubbed by Dutch team team manager Marco Van Basten as “the next Thierry Henry”, had been recently urged by Reds boss Rafa Benitez to give more and the 20-year-old versatile attacker is warming up to fire on all cylinders. Kuyt said in the Liverpool Echo: “I think Ryan can be a sensation in the Premiership. He has a lot of talent and ability and I think sometimes it is easy for people to forget how young he is. “The Premiership is one of the best leagues in the world and it is also very physical, so it is normal that Ryan will need more time to show his best. “

    Liverpool 4 -1 FCPorto
    2007-11-30 04:07:00
O primeiro lugar do grupo assim o permitia.

Ged is a bible for every commentator and journalist charged with covering Liverpool – and he does it all out of the goodness of his heart (and a few tickets, of course). So, sit back and soak up his latest effort including where Peter Crouch stands in the club's European goalscoring charts and which period of a game Fernando Torres is most likely to score in.Liverpool vs PortoLiverpool's European Record (overall): Pld 280 Won 159 Drawn 59 Lost 62.Liverpool's record in European Cup: Pld 149 Won 87 Drawn 30 Lost 32.This is Liverpool's 150th game in the European Cup. The clubs they have played most are Benfica (8 times), followed by CSKA Sofia and Chelsea (6 each).Steve Finnan could become the 17th player to appear 50 times for Liverpool in Europe. The last man to achieve the feat was John Arne Riise in August 2005.This is the second time the Reds have been drawn to play Porto. In 2000-01 they drew 0-0 here in the UEFA Cup Quarter Final before winning 2-0 at Anfield in the return with first half goals from Danny Murphy and Michael Owen.Only Sami Hyypia, Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard who played in those games are still at the club.In 2005 Rafa Benitez became only the fourth Spaniard to lead a team to victory in a European Cup Final following Jose Villalonga, Miguel Munoz and Vicente Del Bosque who all coached Real Madrid to success. When scoring against Besiktas earlier this month Ryan Babel became the 100th different Liverpool player to score for the club in Europe.Steven Gerrard will equal Michael Owen's club record of 22 goals in Europe with his next goal.Peter Crouch has now scored ten times for Liverpool in the European Cup. Only Steven Gerrard (17), Ian Rush (14) and Terry McDermott (12) have scored more. Those ten goals have been scored in Crouch's last dozen star

    Liverpool vs ARSENAL 28 Oct, 2007 (1-1)
    2007-10-28 20:23:00
clip Liverpool 1-1 Arsenal By Ian Hughes Fabregas scored his 10th goal of the season Cesc Fabregas toe-poked a late goal to cancel out Steven Gerrard's first-half free-kick as Arsenal moved back to the top of the Premier League. Gerrard struck on seven minutes, while Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina saved from Emmanuel Adebayor and Tomas Rosicky's lob was cleared off the line. After the break Emmanuel Eboue hit the post and Fabregas fluffed the rebound. But Fabregas equalised on 80 minutes and later hit the post as both sides remained unbeaten in the league. The result means Arsenal reclaim top spot in the table from Manchester United, having scored more goals than their rivals, after an absorbing encounter at Anfield. Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez opted for a three-pronged attack with Fernando Torres back after a thigh injury and lining up alongside Dirk Kuyt and Andriy Voronin. But it was soon apparent that Torres was not going to last the game and he quickly became a passenger in an ineffective front line. Liverpool's saving grace was the driving force of skipper Gerrard and it was his right boot that delivered a crushing blow, when his ferocious free-kick rocketed past Manuel Almunia. After a perceived dip in form, Gerrard was playing like a man out to prove a point and he had already tested Almunia with a fizzing low drive. His harrying denied Arsenal's midfield any time on the ball, but gradually Arsenal regained their composure and played their way into the game to dominate territory and possession. Yet some breathtaking passing movements between the recalled Tomas Rosicky, Alex Hleb and Fabregas, in particular, could not carve out an equaliser. Adebayor raced through on goal only for keeper Reina to superbly close him down and save with his chest.

    Liverpool vs Besiktas 24 Oct, 2007 (1-2)

Clip GERRARD: WE HAVE TO KEEP BELIEVING Steve Hunter 25 October 2007 Steven Gerrard insists Liverpool have to keep believing that they can qualify for the next stages of the Champions League. After the 2-1 defeat in Besiktas Liverpool must now win their three remaining games to stand any chance of qualifying from Group A.The Reds skipper, who drew himself level with Ian Rush as the club's joint second top European goalscorer with his wonderful header in Istanbul, felt Liverpool were rather unfortunate not to take anything from the game."We were unlucky, we created chances and we are pleased with how we played but disappointed with the result," said Gerrard."We need to keep going and win the final three games and see what happens. We need to take the positives and learn from our mistakes. We are capable of winning our final three games."Besiktas took both chances. We played well for long periods and felt we deserved something."It is the worst possible result. We had a mountain to climb but we have got an even bigger one to climb now." PEPE: WE WERE UNLUCKY Jimmy Rice in Istanbul 25 October 2007 Pepe Reina feels he and his teammates are unlucky not to be flying back to England this morning with three more Champions League points. The Spanish stopper believes they created enough chances to beat Besiktas but admits the 2-1 defeat means it's going to be tough to qualify from Group A."To be honest I think we played a good game. We were unlucky in front of the goal, that's why we lost," Reina told Liverpoolfc.tv."We have conceded two goals from four shots on target and scored just one from 10."But anyway, it is not a good result, that's clear. Every game in this competition is now a cup final. We have to win all three games."At the very least we have to make sure we are third. We now have to beat Besiktas at home and then continue to fight, but it is going to be hard."I don't want to think about not qualifying for th

Kuyt converts penalties to help Liverpool win Merseyside derbyLiverpool striker Dirk Kuyt's stoppage time penalty snatched a dramatic 2-1 win over nine-man Everton in the 206th Merseyside derby on Saturday.Kuyt had already scored from the spot once at Goodison Park to cancel out Sami Hyppia's first half own goal and he held his nerve again to get Rafa Benitez's team back on track with their second win in five league matches.Hyppia had put Everton in front in the 38th minute when the veteran defender diverted Phil Jagielka's shot into his own net.Steven Gerrard helped drag Liverpool level in the 54th minute when he surged into area and was hauled down by Tony Hibbert, who was sent off by referee Mark Clattenberg.Kuyt drilled home the penalty and repeated the trick with just minutes to go after Phil Neville was sent off for handling Andriy Voronin's shot on the goalline.Everton still had a chance for one last attack but Clattenburg denied them a penalty when Steve Finnan clearly hau

Liga Inglesa : 10ª jornada - Arsenal ganha e mantém liderança. Manchester United, Liverpool e Chelsea também venceram.
    2007-10-20 23:18:00
Resultados da 10ª jornada da Liga Inglesa - Premiership 2007/2008Arsenal - Bolton, 2-0 (Touré 68' e Rosicky 80')Everton - Liverpool, 1-2 (Sami Hyypia 38' p.b., Kuyt 53' g.p, 91' g.p.)Blackburn Rovers - Reading, 4-2 (McCarthy 18' e 82' g.p.; Santa Cruz 22' e Tugay 32'; Doyle 80' e 90')Middlesbrough - Chelsea, 0-2 (Drogba 8' e Alex 57')Wigan - Portsmouth, 0-2 (Benjami 81' e Johnson 86')Manchester City - Birmingham, 1-0 (Elano 37')Aston Villa - Manchester United, 1-4 (Agbonlahor 12'; Rooney 36' e 44', Rio Ferdinand 47'e Giggs 75')Fulham - Derby County, 0-0West Ham - Sunderland, 3-1 (Cole 9', Gordon 78' p.b. e Bellamy 92'; Scott 52')Newcastle - Tottenham, 2ºfeiraClassificação da Premiership1º Arsenal, 25 pontos2º Manchester United, 23 pontos3º Manchester City, 22 pontos4º Liverpool, 19 pontos5º Chelsea, 18 pontos6º Portsmouth, 18 pontos7º Blackburn, 18 pontos8º Aston Villa, 14 pontos9º Newcastle, 14 pontos10º Everton, 13 pontos11º West Ham, 13 pontos12º Reading, 10 pontos13º Wigan, 8 pontos14º Middlesbrough, 8 pontos15º Sunderland, 8 pontos16º Fulham, 8 pontos17º Birmingham, 8 pontos18º Tottenham, 7 pontos19º Derby County, 6 pontos20º Bolton, 5 pontosVídeosAston Villa 1-4 Manchester UnitedAgbonlahor 12'Rooney 36' Rooney 44'Rio Ferdinand 47'Giggs 75'Arsenal 2-0 BoltonTouré 68'Rosicky 80'Middlesbrough0 0-2 ChelseaDrogba 8'Alex 57'Manchester City 1-0 BirminghamElano 37'Vem fazer parte da equipa do Desportugal (saber mais neste link)Fotos: APPágina InicialDesportugal - Blog de Notícias Desportivas - Vídeos e Análises da Liga Portuguesa , Inglesa , Espanhola , Francesa e Alemã .
