    Longing for Home...
    2008-04-01 18:29:48
If you watch American Idol, you'll know where I heard this song .  It really struck a chord with me.  Oh yeah, I voted for David A. You ought to go north somebody told us Cause the air is filled with gold dust And fortune falls like snow flakes in your hands Now I don't recall who said it But we'd lived so long on credit And so we headed out to find our promised land Just poor Smoky Mountains farm folk With nothing more than high hopes So we hitched our station wagon to a star But our dreams all fell in on us Cause there was no land of promise Though it's a stuggle just keepin' sight of who you are  Oh and these northern nights are dreary And my southern heart is weary As I wonder how the old folks are back home But I know that they all love me And they're all thinking of me The Smoky Mountains memories keep me strong You know I've been thinkin' a whole lot lately About what's been and what awaits me It takes all I've got to give what life demands You go insane if ...

Longing for Green - Miami Tweaks Deal for Chiefs QB
    2007-06-01 13:59:50
Could the most longest awaited move in NFL history finally be on the verge of getting done? Well, let’s put it this way - at least the Dolphins and Chiefs are at least talking about the move to finally get quarterback Trent Green into a Fins uni and out of Big Red. The latest bit of talking between the two states that the Dolphins have modified their trade offer for Green. The Miami Herald reports Friday that the Dolphins are now willing to offer a conditional sixth-round pick that would become a fifth if Green meets certain conditions. The deal over the past few months was that Miami was only going to give up a 6th rounder for Green, a QB who they already have a new contract in place with and ready to go once the deal gets done. KC all along has wanted at least a fourth-round pick for their former starter under center. Jim Steiner, Green’s agent, was quoted in the Herald as stating “I think we will get a deal done, there have been a lot of conversations.” There...

    Love and Longing
    2007-01-24 05:37:00
What do I do whenmy love’s awayDoes it worry to be all alone? How do I feel by the endof the dayAre you sad becauseyou are on your own?--The BeatlesWhat does one do when one’s beloved is away in a foreign land? The Beatles’ song mentioned above speaks of getting by with a little help from friends. Well, not quite, if you have friends like mine. (“So he lives abroad. Imported boyfriend, eh?" Me: “Not imported, but exported. He’s an NRI/expat, you see.”) But that is beside the point. What I feel is not the debilitating, sickening pain of separation but a teeny-weeny niggling feeling of something being amiss. So what do I do now that I can no longer pick up the phone and have hour-long chats with him or just zip across the city to meet him?I re-read and rere-read his emails. Go over his old text messages. (Packed with as much warmth as can be into 160 characters, each one is a treasure in itself.) Ruminate over our past conversations that were by turns intense, flirty, funny and a lot else. He is not wordless like me; he can go on and on. When he’s back, maybe, I’ll teach him to use his eyes to make silences speak. I think of all the things we would do once he returns. And those that we did when he was here.Walking by the promenade hand in hand. Cracking up at each other’s jokes. Going cold in the chilly air and then snuggling with him. Losing track of time while talking with each other over the phone. Being treated like a petal. Sharing the horrors and happiness of our lives. Talking about everything under the sun. Having intense discussions over cups of Café Latte. Leaving him stunned by rattling off the names of the moons of Uranus. Feeding him chocolate.I admit I don’t think of him all the time, just once or twice a day. But whenever I do, I smile unconsciously. I know it only when the people around me give me weird looks for smiling to myself. I, somehow, like this little embarrassment.I dream of enchanted nights. We would lie down under the...
