| | My Last School Lunch | | 2008-07-18 11:35:00 | | One of my most memorable moments in the academe was my last school lunch about 3 days ago. The meal was pork curry, rice, moyashi salad, milk and my first ever ice cream in Japan. A subsidized school lunch would roughly cost around less than 400 yen per meal. The best part of it, everything is well-balanced, from vitamins, minerals, protein, and fibers. | | By: Rey Ian\\\\\\\'s Personal Blog | | |

| | Taxi Driving and Lunch Plans | | 2008-06-25 11:27:23 | | Would it hurt to smile when you get in the van? Say, "Hi Mom" when I interrupt my schedule to come to get you. Would it hurt to have pleasant conversation or maybe even just a "thank you" when I drop you off? Would it really kill you to do so? I have been spending hours of my days transporting children hither and yon (whatever that means) and sometimes it can be very fun. But sometimes it is just plain awful when the kids are so ungrateful and rude. The girls are the biggest offenders in this area, most likely because boys forget that they are supposed to hate their mothers.OK, enough of my whining. Here are some good things to report:1) The washer repair guy and the parts he ordered are actually both here at the same time. And that is good thing.2) Leon and JImmy have been gone several days on the missions trip and we haven't gotten any calls.3) Dominyk has been riding the bus to summer school and attending summer school without a PCA for a week and a half. | | Fallout 3 Collectors Edition lunch box and contents | | 2008-06-04 21:14:49 | | Twenty dollars more for a collector's edition eh? Well Bethesda looks to be making this one as worth it as they can, by cramming it full of creative extras. This isn't just a simple "Making of" DVD (though there is one of those too). There's also the bobble head, the 100 page hardcover art book, and the nuclear-devastation ready lunch box to hold it all in. Plus, y'know, the game. That is the most important part after all, but to tell the truth this looks like a great example of how to do a CE right. As long as the game is the at the level of quality we hope it is, we might just have to knuckle under and shell out the extra money ....[Via Big Download]

| | Meet Your New Recruits: They Want to Eat Your Lunch | | 2008-05-27 11:56:00 | | by Aili McConnon and Jessica Silver-GreenbergThirteen young men and one woman meet in a drafty medieval-style room in a campus residence hall at Yale University. Thick exposed beams cross the ceiling above a large fireplace. A stained-glass panel in the heavy wooden door is decorated with a cobalt "Y." "Anyone interested in finance wants to join the Globalfund," says Philip Uhde, 22, the group's founder and president. "And the smartest of those people are here."A cross between Yale's secretive Skull & Bones society and a young tycoons club, the Globalfund is one of a growing number of exclusive business groups cropping up at elite colleges across the country. The organizations, fueled by a mix of youthful ambition and careerist anxiety, have become an increasingly important part of the competition for the most lucrative jobs at investment banks, hedge funds, and consulting firms. | | As We Were Having Lunch ... | | 2008-05-25 14:46:25 | | I was sitting next between my husband and our District Superintendent and across from his wife. We were surrounded by 9 of our children and five of our church friends. Our service in the morning was great. An excellent sermon, a baptism of our friends, Jeff and Kate’s, new perfect baby girl, and our new sons’ baptisms. Our son Kyle was home. While we were having lunch, our District Superintendent, who baptized the boys, said, “This was a great morning. Mornings like this I would like to be able to put in a bottle or a box and let all the good feelings and joy come out on mornings aren’t so good.”I couldn’t have agreed more. There was some sadness because John and MIke could not be with us and because Salinda chose not to be, but the rest was pure joy.The kids were well behaved for most of the day, even the ones with huge issues. The people we were with were wonderful. The lunch was delicious. It was just a great day.A lot of joy for our family this weekend. Often t | | By: Never a Dull Moment | | |

When we arrived in that town, we did roam around and visited some interesting shops in there. While we are walking around, we felt hungry and we found this “Holy Cow Steakhouse and Grill Restaurant” which we tried to eat in there. I ordered mushroom skillet which was very tasty and super hot and I do not know how they cooked it as it was very good as you can see here in the picture it does even look delicious right? I liked to eat mushroom, I did order a seasoned rice, steamed broccoli and corn in the cob and you can see here the server gave me 2 little tiny cups with butter and makes me laugh as that is a lot for me in just 1 corn (lol) they are being generous to me (ha-ha). My husband did order a cheeseburger with French fries and I ate some of his delicious fries (he-he). It was such a good meal in Holy Cow Steakhouse and Grill Restaurant. | | Have lunch with your child day | | 2008-02-29 21:38:09 | | A couple of days ago was the day for parents to have lunch with their children. It was a "Have lunch with your child day", and I would have loved to go to Tiana's school and eat with her, but my husband didn't like to take us out because the baby would get sick as it's been really cold. The ground is always full of snow, I guess it will be a while before Spring comes to Michigan. It was just snowing heavily today, too, but when it stopped during the late afternoon, I asked my husband to take me out shopping. So we all went and stopped by a Chinese take-out to get some food to eat. Well, anyway, as for Tiana's school, we often miss some events, and I forgot about her Valentine's Musical Concert, and didn't get to put on a red or white shirt on her as preferred by her school, so I didn't take a picture, just a video of her. When I came it was too late, she had to go to the stage and perform already. Oh, that was bad. It's awful when you are not prepared. Anyway, the have lunch with your | | By: Simply Me
| | My First and Last Blogger Lunch | | 2008-02-29 10:11:00 | | Today is the day. My first official "blogger lunch," a physical meeting of local bloggers to get together and talk about how lame we are in person. Yes, I'm nervous. But not for the regular reasons. I'm pretty sure my hair will look fab and my conversational skills will be up to task, but it's the other factors that are making my eye lid twitch.1. Supposedly, I was the only person to respond to the invitation so it will just be me, the host, and a crew of her family. Or was I really the only person invited? Is this criminal targeting?2. I was convinced by the hostess to bring my children along although I'd already arranged alternate babysitting. Does she want to take out as many Flakes as possible?3. We are meeting at a "secret" location. I'm supposed to come to Downtown Disney and wait between two shops at which point I will be met escorted to an undisclosed location.4. | | Ramen for lunch | | 2008-02-29 06:44:00 | | For months I’ve been curious about the little shacks across the street from our school. I know they sell ramen noodles and stuff like that, and especially in good weather it’s always crowded there and all the outside seats are filled with people eating lunch. But somehow I’ve never felt comfortable trying out some ramen from those shacks. But for some reason today Kristin and I felt brave enough to try some. We walked passed all the little wooden houses, and they all looked deserted (our lunch break started at 16:00) and kind of scary. We were already thinking about picking up some bentobox (lunch) at the konbini instead, because basically the sight of these establishments made us want to get out of there.Yet, we went inside because we’ve been wondering about the ramen across the street for so long… It was now or never. So we chose now. The lady behind the counter was kind of interesting and she noticed (obviously as we’re pretty loud) that we spoke English but still ended | | By: The Loulogue | | |
| | Lunch at Trattoria da Rocco | | 2008-02-25 11:50:00 | | The Trattoria da Rocco, inside the Mercato Sant' Ambrogio is one of the rare places in Florence where you will still hear more Italian than English at mealtime. Everyone eats lunch here, from the occasional bewildered tourist to businessmen to construction workers. It's open for lunch, from about 11 to whenever they run out of food.
The market itself is wonderful and deserves a review of its own, so suffice it to say that the trattoria is the same size as the regular stalls in the market but it's the one that looks more like a greenhouse. Don't be concerned if you can't find the door, there isn't any. Simply open one of the windows/walls and slide into a booth and prepare for a cheap, simple, and simply good meal... | | By: SiteBits

As well as riceballs and small plastic containers of vegetables and salads there are also some fried croquettes or patties for purchase. The croquette above contains fried pumpkin and is liberally covered in a sweet savoury sauce. Two riceballs and a croquette made for a filling and inexpensive lunch as I still had a little change from 500yen.Bargain! | | By: porcelain-monkey

| | Property Tax Cuts Are No Free Lunch | | 2008-01-28 00:00:00 | | As many states continue debating the issue of cutting of property taxes while raising other taxes, a friendly reminder to policymakers and voters on the public finance of property taxes: there is no such thing as a free lunch. How to provide property tax relief can basically be summed up in one simple equation:Local Property Tax Burden = Level of Local Government Services X Cost Per Unit of Local Government Services X Local Share of Financing Local Government Services X Share of Local Revenue that comes from property taxesIn other words, in order to reduce property tax burdens, you have one of four options.First, you can cut the level of services provided by government. Second, you can improve government efficiency at the local level (possibly by eliminating rents acquired by public sector workers). Third, you can increase state level financing of local government services, thereby raising taxes at the state level, typically on sales or income. Or finally, local governments can switch to a different tax source besides property taxes. | | By: Tax Policy Blog | | |
| | Breakfast + Lunch = Brunch | | 2008-01-11 23:00:00 | | click logo for more information Today, my Pop-Pop got up and decided he wanted to take us out to have something called "brunch". So, we got in the car, traveled to a part of Philadelphia called "Germantown", and went to a place called the "Trolley Car Diner. It was a warm and friendly place...lots of people were there and Grammy said it was like "the place that time forgot". Here is a pic of the old #23 trolley car that sits right outside the diner. It was closed because it's wintertime but, in the summertime, it serves ice cream and you can sit at the tables outside to eat it. This is a pic of the diner where we had our brunch. It sits right next to the old #23 trolley car. Because there were so many people there, we had to give our name, sit down, and wait a little while before our table was ready. Usually, I get really upset when I have to sit still and wait for anything because I like to run around and have fun but, Mommy said that I was being a really good boy today. Mommy decided that she was in the mood for breakfast so, she ordered something called "fish and grits" for us to eat. It was really good...here I am eating a piece of fish. After we ate, we went outside to say goodbye to the old #23 trolley car before heading for home. In case you haven't noticed, I really like trains, trolley cars, and just about anything that runs on a track! Grammy promised that they would take me back to the Trolley Car Diner in the summertime so we can all eat some ice cream outside. She said we might even go at night because the diner lights up and looks even better after dark. I can't wait!

| | | Business Success Tip: There’s no such thing as a free lunch | | 2007-12-04 01:27:00 | | “There’s no such thing as a free lunch!” That proverb has been traced back to around 1950. It means that nothing in life is free; you can’t get something for nothing. And if it appears to be free, somebody somewhere is paying for it.That is extremely valuable information to keep in mind when you’re surfing the Net looking for a home-based business. Beware the “nothing (down) for something” SCAMS! They go against ALL the generally accepted rules of business and commerce.Business and commerce started eons ago. At first, it took the form of bartering—exchanging goods for goods. I’ll trade my fish for 3 pieces of your firewood. Then ‘money’ was invented in the form of seashells, beads, or pieces of metal. Aardvaak pays you 3 seashells for your fish, and you go across the village and pay Oodwarg 2 seashells for some firewood, which leaves you one seashell to buy bread from Mharyang on the way home. It’s still how we do business today—except we now use coins & bills, credit cards, debit cards, money orders, bank drafts, bank wires, checks, email transfers, or PayPal. But it’s ALWAYS in exchange for something, be it goods or services. If not, the police is called in to investigate—or at least they should be.I’m a business person. I have products for sale, and I have a business opportunity. To get either one, you’ll have to pay money. It’s a value-for-value proposition; your money for my product and / or opportunity. Fair and square. And on top of that, if you want to succeed with my business opportunity, you’ll have to do some work. | | | Beccofino's Buffet Lunch Set | | 2007-10-09 16:42:31 | | It's easy to be intimidated by Beccofino. First you got the Italian sounding moniker. Then there's the art deco external façade, dim lighting and the fact that it's situated in Thonglo, Sukhumvit's hippest and chicest soi. And oh my~ it's actually got an authentic, meaty Italian chef named Angelo Rottoli~!!
But don't be discouraged. You can still experience Beccofino's "hi-so" food, service and ambience if you go for its Buffet Lunch Set~!!
For 350 baht++, you can stuff your face silly from noon 'til 2:30 pm with pasta, cold cuts, seafood, salads, breads, soup and yes, even dessert PLUS coffee or tea~!!
Since this is an all-you-can-eat deal, here's the best ATTACK PLAN:
Start with the warm breads first. You can enjoy all of 'em either with or without butter. If you're a bread fiend, you can even ask for more~!!
Next, proceed to the buffet table for your appetizers (pictured). Try a little bit of everything - different kinds of ham, finger food, cheeses, seafood (shrimp | | By: Street Smart Sukhumvit

| | My Lunch Date | | 2007-08-30 21:05:22 | | I needed to run some more errands... I got clothes sizes for our two new boys and I wanted to hit the clearance racks and see what I could find. I invited Ricardo to join me and for the first time he said yes. Just me, and him, and the store, and lunch. Did we hit the jackpot! Nikes, Reebox, and Adidas shorts for $4.00 each. Shirts for $3.60. I couldnt' even pay shipping on them for that if I bought them on ebay for a penney. I was tempted to by the entire rack and send them to people I know....but I only bought a fourth of the rack. Ricardo was pretty glad he came with me because he ended up finding a whole bunch of stuff he liked. We then had some lunch...a HUGE burrito from Chipotle, something he and I both enjoy. He didn't say a lot but it was fun to be with him.We ran another errand and now he and I are the only ones home. It is so quiet here.... | | By: Never a Dull Moment | | |

| | La Mela has a Lunch Special | | 2007-08-03 20:57:00 | | My friends at Signature Bank told me about the $8 lunch special at La Mela La Mela . They don't have the lunch special on the menu so I don't know how people would know about it. Everyone else in the restaurant seemed to be eating off the regular menu. It's a choice of Eggplant Parmigian, Chicken Parmigian, Veal Pamigian, or Spaghetti and Meatball (notice the lack of the s since it's only 1 meatball). It comes with bread and an oily salad. It's pretty decent except for the 1 meatball pasta but I don't like it enough to go again. | | By: FoodMayhem | | |

| | Visit Hitachi get a free lunch | | 2007-08-01 15:10:59 | | Silicon Valley has some interesting ways of getting people together to meet and greet, one of them is the Lunch 2.0 program where companies open up their doors, invite everyone who is working in the valley to come in and see what is happening at various companies. This might be similar to the Wednesday morning coffee break in Eastlake in Seattle.
September 12th is the day that Hitachi opens up its doors according to Lunch 2.0, which might be a place to watch in case anyone is interested in going and visiting Hitachi.
If Hitachi is not your bag, there will be Topix, Box, Pandora, Plaxo, Podtech, Riya, Simply Hired, Zazzle, Zooomer and Zvents also at the lunch.
You can get more info here
It looks like it will be interesting, of course we will be no where near Santa Clara, nor the Valley, rather we will be mired hip deep in something over here in Seattle doing our own thing, and otherwise enjoying the life of a startup. | | Our Blue Star Deli Lunch Meeting!! | | 2007-07-17 00:24:30 | | Howdy folks, we are back home, this was a bit longer luncheon date than I had anticipated, and it was an awesome little get-together, we met Dave Mooney face to face and a nicer guy you’ll never find, Dave is the owner of the Blue Star Deli and he was a gracious host, he made everyone comfortable and we all felt right at home…
Dave’s place is great, a real cozy feeling, very ‘down home’ and the food is great too, and the prices are VERY reasonable and I am hoping that now maybe some of Dave’s maladies may be easing up a bit, Dave was told that the Halliburton Company, which is almost his next door neighbor, finally got on the stick and started doing some damage control, they made a building wide P.A. system address to their entire staff declaring that they do NOT encourage nor support a boycott of the Blue Star Deli and they are looking forward to doing business in the near future, and THAT is really good news…

I've been eating at Variety Cafe. Variety Cafe It's one of those big places where you pay by weight. It's decent stuff for $6.49 per pound: shrimp, fresh mozzarella, portobellos...Keep in mind that the cold bar is way better than the hot bar. The cashiers are speedy so at least the line moves quickly. | | By: FoodMayhem

| | | Lunch in the sun at Go Freshshop | | 2007-06-01 23:21:24 | | Another beautiful day in Amsterdam, so we tried to find a place outside for eating lunch. And with luck we found the Go Freshshop just off Rembrandtplein going towards the Amstel river. They had put a small terrace outside, which was still catching some sun, and as we arrived, another couple left, so we could take their place
The terrace was put around the corner of the entrance of the Go Freshshop, so the people inside could not keep an eye on the terrace. After waiting a little while, my friend decided to go inside to get a menu himself. The menu looked very appetizing, with sandwiches, salads, juices and even warm dishes for dinner. Everything is prepared on the spot, hence the name Go Freshshop
After waiting even a longer while and wondering if there was table service on the terrace, finally a guy came outside. He came outside the bring the cheque to the people on the next table, so on his way back inside we caught him and we could place our order. | | Otsukare sama lunch | | 2007-06-01 14:34:00 | | So today we went to lunch with Tanaka Kacho (see picture) and our three trainers Megan from the U.K. and Andy and Angie (see picture) from the States. I think it was kind of a fancy place for Japanese standards, but I really enjoy the atmosphere in the cheaper places, because they just seem more Japanese to me. I didn't really enjoy the food so much because most of it was covered in the kind of sauces we have in Europe too with either cream or tomato in it which I really don't like. Normally I would just try to scrape it of with some napkin, but when you're at lunch with the big boss that would just be rude, so I ate it. I did have a good time talking to Andy who has been living here for four years, got married to his Japanese wife two years ago and has one kid and one on the way. I found out a lot about how people get married and give birth in Japan, you never know when that information will come in handy ;). Apparently the guests at a wedding have to pay a hefty entrance fee and t | | By: The Loulogue
| | Late lunch at Cafe Bloemers | | 2007-05-25 21:59:51 | | Today was again a beautiful sunny day in Amsterdam. After going up and down de Dappermarkt I could use a rest, so we went to the other side of the Amstel and sat us down at Cafe Bloemers. We were hesitating to go there or the fusion tapas place next door, but finaly we decided to go for Bloemers, because there was still some sun on the terrace. Bloemers has a really nice terrace, decorated with wooden fences and flowers and even some garden swings.
Soon after sitting down the waiter came outside to take our order. I ordered a sandwich with fried egg and a strawberry-banana juice and my friend a latte. Their lunch menu has a wide variety of sandwiches and salads. The drinks arrived a little bit later. The juice tasted like it came freshly squeezed from a packet and not freshly squized there, but still better than juice from a bottle. The sandwich arrived about 10 minutes later. It looked tasty, but not something special. Here there were some minus points, because I had to ask for the ut | | By: your restaurant guide to Amsterdam
