Jaguars in the Community: The Wuerffel Benefit Luncheon
    2008-05-22 18:57:15
[Note by River City Rage, 05/23/08 3:11 AM EDT ] Clodknocker was a participiant in the recent Wuerffel Benefit Luncheon at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium.  He was kind enough to write his observation and thoughts on the event for us.  On behalf of everyone at Big Cat Country, thank you for writing this!       The Luncheon was held at the Touchdown Club at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium on Thursday May 15th. Former Quarterback Danny Wuerffel was humble, yet well-armed to reveal his strengths on the football field that made him a Heisman Tropy winner after leading the Florida Gators to four straight Southeastern Conference Championships, and defeating the Florida State Seminoles in the Sugar Bowl for the consensus National Championship. He had a supporting cast of former standout Gators present; Kerwin Bell, Chris Doering, and Shane Matthews. Former Gators and present Jaguars, Reggie Nelson and Mike Peterson, were also listed as being present.   &nbs...

    Luncheon with the Royals.
    2008-05-01 15:21:00
May 2 ... Russian salad is the puzzle of the day today. It did not start out as a puzzle, it started out as one of the dishes served to the King and Queen, and the Duke and Duckess of York on this day in 1924 – and I thought it was about time I gave you another historic menu. The royals were making an ‘informal inspection’ of the palaces at the British Empire Exhibition being held at Wembley – the Palaces of Industry, Engineering etc that is. After four hours of touring the exhibits ‘almost as precisely as ordinary visitors do’, they were allowed a luncheon break before continuing their inspection. This was the luncheon menu: Les Canapes souveraine.--Les petites soles Colbert.--Les côtes d’agneau double grillées.Les petits pois frais à l’Anglais.Les pommes nouvelles vapeur.--Les canetons à la gelée d’orange.Jambon en cornet.La salade à la Russe.--Les asperges froide vinaigrette--Les fraises Romanoff. All things Russian wer...

    Bridesmaid's Luncheon
    2008-03-30 14:00:00
Your bridesmaids have done so much for you throughout the wedding planning process. They listen to you and offer moral support, they buy dresses and go to fittings, they probably plan a shower and a bachelorette party, perhaps help stuff invitations or assemble favors, and most importantly, they are standing up with you on your big day. A traditional way to thank them is to host a Bridesmaid's Luncheon.Logistics will determine when you have the Bridesmaid's Luncheon- if everyone is local, you ...

    A Shooting Luncheon.
    2007-11-27 13:05:00
November 28 … If you are a member of the Idle Rich in the Northern Hemisphere, at this time of the year your thoughts may well be turning to a little pre-Christmas shooting party. If so, you must do a little advance planning if it is to be an occasion of ‘unruffled enjoyment.’ Your luncheon party will consist of about a dozen people – the shooters of course, and the ladies who will join them at the appropriate time. In addition, some preparation will have to be made for the keepers, beaters, and loaders, without whom a shooting party would be a lot of work, and likely not very successful. Those “whose daily fare is often rough and meagre” will be most appreciative of the meat sandwiches and bread and cheese which you will provide. The shooters and their ladies of course will need finer fare than these rough yokels. What a conundrum. Two picnics to pack.I am so glad that an English newspaper article of this week in 1921 gives us some hints as to how to cater for such a range...
