MCE intros 1TB hard drive kit for 17-inch MacBook Pros
    2008-05-13 17:32:00
Filed under: Laptops, Storage No stranger to taking Macs beyond their standard issue capabilities, MCE has now pulled yet another entirely unofficial trick out of its hat, with this one giving 17-inch MacBook Pro owners a significant storage boost. As with some of its other mods, this one replaces the MacBook Pro's optical drive with a 2.5-inch hard drive (500GB in this case) and, to hit the magical 1TB mark, it also replaces the laptop's standard hard drive with another matching 5,400 rpm 500GB drive. To ensure none of that original hardware goes to waste, the kit also includes external USB 2.0 enclosures for both the original hard drive and the optical drive, although we wouldn't expect any less given that the kit costs a hefty $800 (or more if you want MCE to install it for you).[Via PC World] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Video parodia: MacBook Air vs. Lenovo ThinkPad X300
    2008-05-03 00:49:00

The new Lenovo ThinkPad X300 notebook PC is a joy to use. It’s also one of the thinnest and lightest PCs on the market and, partially because it has a solid state drive instead of a hard drive, it’s also very fast and more energy efficient than most notebook PCs. The downside: It’s expensive and it has only 64 gigabytes of storage. Thanks to Apple this isn’t the thinnest or lightest PC on the market. Macbook Pro Upgrade
    2008-02-27 18:54:37
Sony wasn't the only company to announced new things yesterday. Apple has unveiled the much rumored Macbook and Macbook Pro notebook updates. The very minor updates to the Macbook line include: up to 2.5Ghz Core 2 Duo processor, a new mobile NVIDIA 8600M graphics card, and a multi-touch touch pad like it's little brother, the Macbook Air. Unfortunately, the normal Macbooks do not come with multi-touch capabilities, only the Macbook Pro and Air currently offer it. Though this update does not offer any new features in the design department, this is a worthy upgrade, and if you have been planning to get a Macbook or Macbook Pro any time soon, now would be the time. The prices range from $1,099-$1,499 for a Macbook in either White or Black, and $1,999-$2,799 for the more powerful Macbook Pro. Thank you for subscribing to my blog! Tell your friends!

Parodia MacBook Air - Video gracioso del domingo XXXVII
    2008-02-24 07:50:00

    MacBook Air review
    2008-01-26 15:24:00
MacBook Air reviewPosted Jan 25th 2008 4:44PM by Ryan BlockFiled under: Features, Laptops It fits in a manila folder, you can slide it under a door, and if you threw it hard enough you could probably chop someone in half with the thing. It's the thinnest, and if we may say so, sexiest laptop around today: the MacBook Air. But looks aren't everything to everyone, and despite all the rhetoric about being a no-compromises ultraportable, Apple did leave plenty on the cutting-room floor in its quest to make an absurdly thin ultraportable that doesn't skimp on a full size keyboard or roomier 13-inch display. But, as many potential buyers have been asking themselves since last week, is the Air right to be your next machine? Read on, we'll tell you what we think.source : engadget.com

    MacBook Air FAQ
    2008-01-18 09:00:00
What's the difference between the MacBook Air and the other models in the MacBook Line? This is easy. Price: The Air costs about $650 more than a faster MacBook when the latter is tricked out with 2GB of third-party RAM. The thickness of the case: The Air is a wood shaving compared to the MacBook. The pieces inside: The Air is missing several -- with an optical drive and Ethernet port but two pieces -- but it gains others, including a multi-touch trackpad. The weight: The Air tips the scale at 3 lb., while the similarly-sized MacBook weighs 5 lb.Is the Air really the world's thinnest notebook, as Jobs claimed? It appears so. Just 0.16 inches at its thinnest -- which is where, we assume, Apple put the tape measure -- the Air beats the minimum thickness of rivals by wide margins. The Sony Vaio TZ, for instance, is 0.8 in. at its thickest, while Dell's Latitude X1 is an even bulkier 1 in. thick. Even the Asus Eee is thicker. In fact, the thickest part of the Air (near the hinge) is thinner at 0.76 in. than the thinnest part of the Sony Corp., Dell Inc. or Asus Computer International Inc. models. Jenny Craig would be proud. (faq)

Sneak Preview of the Thinnest Laptop Ever: Apple Macbook Air
    2008-01-17 13:00:00
The Apple MacBook Air is the thinnest laptop ever made. At its fattest end it's still thinner than the nearest competitor's thinnest. The Apple MacBook Air is sturdy and doesn't feel like it's going to snap or bend. Also bear in mind that the 4mm-thick part is right at the edge. The rest of the system gets gradually thicker towards the 19mm edge at the rear. At its thickest edge (towards the rear) it's a mere 19.3mm, while at its thinnest its just 4mm. It's got a 13.3-inch glossy screen, a full-size backlit keyboard, built-in iSight Web camera, microphone and stereo speakers, and -- oh yes -- a multi-touch trackpad. The most fun element is this multi-touch track pad. Zooming in and out of images was great fun and uses the 'pinch-and-stretch' technique adopted in the iPhone and iPod touch. If you can imagine rotating a physical photograph with two fingers on a table, you can have a pretty good guess at what it's like to rotate a photo on the Air, since it works in exactly the same way on

Macbook Air: No disc player, huh
    2008-01-16 21:15:06
Some people still like to watch DVDs on notebooks. It is funny to switch on another computer just to watch a DVD on the Macbook Air. Those who do not have wireless network will be cooked as a goose. Then again, folks who can afford Mac computers would probably have wireless networks at home & at the office too.So what about other places? You can’t bring the Macbook Air to a rural area without wireless networks. Obviously, the Macbook Air is very urban based. The lack of internal disc player could be a stumble block. Companion disc players are so 90s.PhBBbbtTt! :P

MacBook Air, the thinnest notebook from Apple
    2008-01-15 20:42:00
Today at Macworld, Apple has unveiled the MacBook Air, the world's thinnest notebook. The MacBook Air measures only .16 inches at its thinnest point. Just last year, I think it was Toshiba or Fujitsu who introduced the world's thinnest notebook and only several months after, here comes the MacBook Air, bumping those notebooks out of the top.The gorgeous new notebook from Apple features a 13.3 inch screen, built in web-cam, 1.6 to 1.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of memory, and an 80GB hard drive. Plus, as if putting their multi touch technology on the iPhone and iPod Touch isn't enough, Apple also incorporated the multi touch technology on the MacBook Air via its trackpad.Of course, at .16 inches thin, you can't exactly expect the MacBook Air to have an optical drive, so you have to purchase a compact external drive for an additional $99.The Apple MacBook Air will be available in two weeks and has a starting price of $1,799. See you in line!

Introducing the new MacBook Air - A MacWorld 08 Coverage
    2008-01-15 15:23:00
The MacBook AirApple stunned a nation, or at least those who haven't been paying attention to the rumors, today with the unveiling of a very thin new MacBook called the MacBook Air. 'The world's thinnest notebooks' starts at $1799 and comes with a 13.3 inch display (LED), a full keyboard, built-in 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth, built-in iSight, and a multitouch trackpad that lets you use gestures to control a number of actions on the MacBook Air. Some other stats include:1.6 GHz or 1.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 4MB L2 cache 2GB of RAM80GB 1.8-inch hard drive (with optional 64 gig solid state drive1 USB 2.0 portWhat it doesn't come with are built-in ethernet ports, FireWire, and optical drive, or enough graphics power to power a 30 inch Display (but you can hook up a 20 or 23 inch display via a built in mini-DVI port). The Downs of the MacBook AirThe Macbook Air is only a couple of hours old (to you and me, at least), and only a handful of people have even seen one, so let's pick apart its flaws! Just kidding. This post is meant to point out certain aspects of the little machine that may not be immediately obvious. No user-replacable battery. Not the end of the world, for sure, but a nuisance, especially as your battery's life drops to four hours, then three, then ... (but that's a few years away, right?). Shades of the user-inaccessible iPhone battery commotion here.Recessed USB slot will hinder certain peripherals. Prepare for a cottage industry of adapters to appear (much like those for the iPhone's headphone jack). Plus, there's only one -- expect small, streamlined & white USB hubs to appear soon.No Firewire port. Forget uploading digital video from a camera, or using those spiffy Firewire external hard drives. Now, we're not ripping the MacBook Air apart here, just pointing out a few details you'll want to keep in mind if you plan to use it as your primary machine. Speaking of which, don't you love how the curved bottom makes it appear to be float

MacBook Pro really was PC World's fastest tested laptop... until the Phantom-X
    2007-12-07 20:35:53
So there's a bit of grumbling on the internets that PC World, like, totally sold out and lied about the MacBook Pro being the fastest Vista laptop they ever tested (presumably just so they could get mentioned in that new Apple commercial, right?) shortly before the staff went cow tipping and passed out drunk in a public park. The reality is PC World apparently hadn't tested a laptop faster than the MacBook Pro at the time, and it wasn't until weeks later they tested the Eurocom D900C Phantom-X, which handily bested Apple's lappie by a broad margin. At least that's what PC World's editor Harry McCracken told us, but then again we did hear he recently got an Apple tat and is planning a hostile takeover of Macworld magazine in '08.Read - PC World's statement about the MBPRead - ... and their review of the EurocomRead - The punter doing the grumblingWatch - The Apple adThanks : Engadget.com

Some MacBook hard drives contain fatal defect, according to report
    2007-12-01 03:19:17
We've been hearing vague rumblings about potentially flawed MacBook hard drives for a day or two now, but a report from UK data-recovery firm Retrodata finally backs up all the noise with some hard data -- according to the company, revision 7.0.1 Seagate drives manufactured in China have defective read / write heads that can become detached and slide across the surface of the platters, making recovery impossible. Apple says it's only received "a few reports" of the problem, but Retrodata says the issue is severe enough to warrant a recall. MacBook users will want to fire up Apple System Profiler ASAP and check under the Serial-ATA listing to see what kind of drive they have -- and probably start backing things up, just to be safe.special thanks : engadget.com

Apple Inc. Gains Market Share! MacBook and Leopard Popular!
    2007-10-22 18:15:20
Shareholders of Apple Inc. are in for a treat! Apple’s market share for personal computers is surging at an all time high! Computer industry analysts forecast that AAPL would move into third place in the United States behind Hewlett-Packard and Dell after it reports product shipments in the fiscal fourth quarter (part of its earnings announcement). On October 26, 2007, Friday, Apple Inc. will debut its Leopard operating system, which integrates a range of features that have both analysts and users going ga-ga over it. Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs believes that the Leopard will bring about a schedule of product upgrades, which could continue for as long as a decade! As you all know, AAPL has put out major releases of its OS on the average of one per year. Leopard, which offers more than 300 new features, is the sixth major upgrade that Apple Inc. has made to the Mac OS X since the operating system was launched in 2001. Such product pacing has allowed it to outshine Microsoft Corporation (MSFT), which took five to seven years to debut Windows Vista after launching Windows XP. Despite the long wait, Vista still failed to excite customers both on the enterprise and personal computing levels. Even MSFT’s plans to release an update for its Vista in the first quarter of 2008 and to offer a service pack for Windows XP in the first half of the year didn’t help boost Vista’s popularity. And by 2010, the year that Microsoft is set to release its next OS, i.e., Windows 7, Apple would have already debut two novel versions of its OS! Thus, translating to more market share for the Mac against the dangerously declining share of the PC! It doesn’t take a genius to determine what this means in the long run! Apple Inc.’s pricing strategy for the Leopard is also worth noting. Amidst the multiple editions of Vista (different features at different prices), Apple has set a single price for its Leopard, i.e., $129. No home edition, no pro version, no ultimate set, whatsoever! And get this! The $129 price tag on the Leopard for single user and the $199 package for a family pack (up to 5 in a household) is way below that of the Ultimate edition of Vista, which sells for $250! I remember reading the views of some analysts who said that the Leopard will only have an indirect effect on Macintosh sales and Apple Inc.’s financial performance. Hey guys! Guess what? Leopard will add $240 million to Apple’s next quarter, which is almost double the $125 million that the company realized from Tiger during its initial quarter (Piper Jaffray & Co.'s Gene Munster). AAPL is forecast (Gartner) to grow by more than 37% based on expected shipments of 1,338,000 computers (8.1% share of the US market, up by 2 percentage points from previous year figures). Now, contrast that with the 4.7% demand for new PCs (third quarter), and this is even below the projected 6.7%! Tsk. Apple Inc. has significantly outpaced its rivals in the United States, particularly in the shift towards portable computers. Laptop technology has improved by a thousand percent in the last 10 years. Indeed, notebooks now are true desktop replacements. How much do I truly believe this? Well, all my computers at home are laptops. Here’s an interesting thought. Is it a coincidence that 2007 is the first year that notebook computers have made up more than 50% of computer sales in the US and that two-thirds of Apple machines sold in the country were laptops? Top that off with AAPL’s share of home PC revenue, which increased in the last four quarters. Wait! This still doesn’t even include the huge surge in demand for Apple Inc.’s MacBook and MacBook Pro this holiday season! According to results of Solutions Research Group’s survey, Apple-branded technology products are in the top five overall with one-in-six considering purchase! Why the surge in popularity? In their respective categories, Apple Inc.’s MacBook and MacBook Pro are much better products than the others! Pound for pound! Plain and simple! An exciting feature that always comes to mind is "Boot Camp" that lets users install and utilize Microsoft's Windows on Macs! A Genius demonstrated this feature to me at the Power Mac Center, 2nd Level Greenbelt 3, Ayala Center, Makati City, Philippines. I was totally wowed by it! Where in the world can you find such a computer? This and the 300 plus new features of Leopard have got me wishing for a 13-inch MacBook this Christmas, too! All of these developments and more translate to a very happy holiday season for Steve Jobs, Apple Inc., and its shareholders. And I kid you not!Interesting posts on Steve Jobs and Apple Inc.The Geek and The NerdApple Know What It Is DoingiPhone and Leopard - One Has to Give In?AAPL Delays Leopard for the iPhoneSurface Computing"This Christmas, I wish for world peace. Report: 12-inch MacBook Pro by end of year ?
    2007-07-12 11:41:00
Ever since Apple's PowerBook line met its end last year, people have been clamoring for Apple to return to them a 12-inch laptop. Rumors of Steve Jobs granting their wishes and bestowing upon them an ultraportable, professional-grade notebook have been fairly consistent since the man introduced the 15- and 17-inch MacBook Pros. Today, MacScoop quotes "trusted sources" that point to the arrival of a 12-inch MacBook Pro by the end of the year.
