| Wii Virtual Console Review: Magician Lord | | 2007-12-23 10:49:00 | | Developer: ADK (Alpha Denshi)Publisher: SNKConsole: Neo-GeoRelease Date: April 1990The evil Gul-Agieze wants to rule the world by awakening the terrible God of Destruction using the 8 Books of Mystical Power. It is up to Elta, the last Magician Lord, to find the 8 tomes and seal away the evil god, forever. The Neo-Geo controller had four buttons but ADK thought gamers willing to buy this game were mentally-challenged and couldn’t handle so many, so only two are usable. Elta can jump and shoot two slow and microscopic waves of magic at a time. That’s it. You can shoot upwards, while ducking, and downwards if you’re jumping. The enemies move in such bizarre patterns that it doesn’t matter if you can shoot in many directions, you’ll get killed constantly anyway. You just can’t hit everything that’s coming at you and you die after only two hits. After you get hit once you blink for half a nanosecond before you can be hit again, so you basically die every two seconds.Along the | | By: Up+Start | | |
| | | Efren Bata Reyes aka The Magician: Working-Class Hero by Ted Lerner | | 2007-11-14 12:21:24 | | I chanced upon this article on Filipino pool legend Efren Bata Reyes, aka The Magician, one of the most celebrated and charismatic pool players who ever wielded a cue stick. It is perhaps the best anecdote ever written on the Billiards Congress of America's Hall of Famer. The post's author is Ted Lerner, sports commentator and official correspondent for the 2007 World Pool Championship. It was first published in the daily newspaper Business World, on 4-13-1996. Hey, wait! This is my 413th post! Coincidence? Maybe. Faith? Definitely! And I kid you not!Working-class HeroEfren "Bata" Reyes is more than just one of the best pool players in the world. To many, he is a living legend, writes TED LERNER. IT IS A HOT and sunny Saturday afternoon in late March and Efren Reyes is putting on an exhibition. The town is Angeles City, Efren's home town, and the place is Margarita Ville, a popular bar and restaurant on Field's Avenue. Efren has come here a | | By: The AnitoKid Chronikos | | |

| | Thomas a draft-day magician | | 2007-06-29 12:59:00 | | I don't know what New York Knicks GM/Coach Isiah Thomas eats for breakfast on draft day, but whatever it is he should do it more often.Thomas might be a bumbling, directionless GM 364 days a year. On draft day, however, the guy turns into a magician. The Knicks seemed like they would be spectators in last night's draft, having dealt their lottery pick to Chicago a couple of years back for Eddy Curry. Yet, seemingly out of left field, Thomas was able to engineer a trade for Zach Randolph, a dominant low-post player who averaged 23 points and 10 rebounds a game for Portland last season. On top of that, he did it at hardly any cost to the Knicks. True, he gave up young F/C Channing Frye, but Frye will never be more than a decent complementary player. He won't be a star. And, Thomas actually got the Blazers to take the unwanted and incredibly expensive Steve Francis off the Knicks' hands.Thomas has not been able to turn the Knicks back into contenders, and I've often questioned whether | | By: Valentine's Views on Sports | | |
| | Magician Deutzia Buds (Deutzia 'Magician') | | 2007-05-27 13:19:00 | | Magician Deutzia BudsDeutzia 'Magician'(DOOT-zee-uh)These are the buds of Magician Deutzia. I never noticed the star shaped design until I went to photograph the buds. I found several scientific names listed for this plant and couldn’t decide which one was correct. I have two of these growing in two different areas and the only complaint I have with them is they try and grow too big. It is partially my fault for planting them where I did. I had room for about a 5-foot shrub and these seem to want to grow taller than that. I think I may try and move one of the plants to an area where it will have a little more room to expand. They seem to be pest and disease free, which is always a plus. The flowers are unusual with pink underside and a white reverse. They seem a little bigger than the other couple of Deutzias types I grow. There will always be room in my shrub border for Deutzia gracilis 'Nikko'. I often use it as a groundcover or in combination with upright Japanese Maples. I wi | | By: Digital Flower Pictures.com | | |
