How about a smaller nav screen? Magna develops in-mirror display
    2008-06-14 12:12:00
While Ford's giving the Fusion an LCD large enough to watch feature films, Magna has joined up with Swiss firm u-blox and Germany's Paragon to develop a navigation system that puts the map display in your rearview mirror. The system is called MirrorPilot, and it does look like a slick way to add factory navigation with a minimum of effort on the automaker's part. It's also far nicer than suction-cupping some aftermarket unit to the windshield and dealing with its tangle of cables. It's not just a mirror with a display; the MirrorPilot incorporates a GPS receiver and antenna, as well as a speaker. The mirror itself self-dims electrochromically, and the display automatically zooms at intersections and also comes with a remote control. The screen may be small, but the cost is large; this unit will be priced above $1,000 when it goes on sale in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. While it's a nice idea, it's not $1,000 worth of nice, especially with such a diminutive screen. We'll buy a ch...

Magna files lawsuit against Tesla Motors
    2008-04-16 23:44:23
Magna files lawsuit against Tesla Motors Just yesterday we reported that Tesla Motors has filed a lawsuit against Fisker Coachbuild, but now comes word that Tesla could be in some legal trouble of its own. Magna — a transmission maker — has filed a suit against Tesla for money it says the electric carmaker still owes it. During the development of the electric Roadster, Tesla ran into some development problems with the car's transmission. The car was originally slated to get a two-speed unit supplied by X-Trac, but that unit had durability issues so Tesla turned to Magna. Tesla subsequently decided not to use the Magna unit and developed its own before eventually deciding on a single speed unit (ultimately the car's electric motor had to be altered). According to AutoblogGreen, Magna isn't upset that Tesla decided not to go with its design, but rather that Tesla never paid them fully for its work — $5.6 million in all. ...

Geneva Show 2008 Highlights: Magna Steyr Mila Alpin Concept
    2008-03-06 20:02:00
Remember the Steyr Pinzgauer of the late 1960s? The Mila Alpin is a reinterpretation of that simple 4x4 vehicle and takes the idea for its styling and color scheme from the mountain rock and ice of the Alps. The car is split into two halves: the lower part is hard-edged and geometric and finished in rock gray. A low center of gravity was achieved by positioning the three-cylinder, 1000cc engine beneath one of the rear seats, hence the 3+1 seating arrangement. A CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) hybri...

Magna Echo Ridge Boy 20 Inch Mountain Bike
    2007-11-26 19:42:14
Perfect for adventurous riders ages seven and older, the Echo Ridge Boy's 20-inch mountain bike from Magna is built solid with sturdy components and an eye-catching silver and blue frame. Ideal for hitting the trails, cruising the park, or riding around the neighborhood, the Echo Ridge features a durable steel frame, 20-inch wheels, and a Falcon index derailleur. It's set-up with front and rear cantilever brakes for strong stopping power. A helmet and knee and elbow protective gear is strongly recommended. Some assembly is required. Mountain BikesDifficult Brake Adjustment!I bought this bike for my 10 year old son instead of a similar one at Wal-mart thinking that it would be a better quality bike. Not the case - overall quality was probably the same but the brake adjustments were very complicated!! The bike went together easily but the brakes were not adjusted correctly (the wheels wouldn't even turn) and it took me 2 hours to just get them to work (and I'm a mechanical engineer!). The front brake assembly is still way too loose and I haven't been able to figure out how to adjust it. If I had bought one at Wal-mart, I would not have had to spend time adjusting anything.blue boys 20-inch bike Loved this bicycle!!! It arrived in two or three days' time and was sort of easy to assemble. Both my boys loved riding it. The design is right for 8 & 9 year old boys. Fantastic price. Magna Carolina Cruisin Girl 20 Inch Cruiser Bike
    2007-11-21 06:30:15
She'll cruise around in comfort and style with the single-speed Carolina Cruisin' Cruiser Bike, which features a fun retro design. This bike offers a saddle-style seat for a comfortable rid and wide 20-inch tires for smooth sailing. It also offers a pretty pink and silver sparkly frame, alloy wheel rims, reflectors for low-light situations, and a coaster brake (operated via the pedals). The short fenders on both wheels will help protect her from splashes. Ideal for riders ages six to eleven or 36 to 54 inches tall.Magna Beach Cruiser Great bike that arrived double boxed to make sure it wasn't thrashed in transit. The bike was easy to assemble. It is the cutest bike that my daughter receives compliments on all the time!!Cute but I'm sure there's better in this price range My husband is not happy with this purchase - the chain has fallen off more than once and other parts have come loose. He has to tighten things up on a weekly basis and do repairs during rides. It is very cute, but we've only had it for a short time and are looking to replace it with something more reliable. A new bike shouldn't require so much attention. I don't suggest it.You REALLY get what you pay for with bikesI am not a big spender, but unlike a lot of things, the more money you spend, the better bike you get. I really didn't want to spend a lot for a bike for a 5-year-old, and I wish I would have gone with my first instinct and bought one from a bike shop. I'm so frugal that I couldn't stand the idea of paying $140 for a bike for a kid, so I got this one instead (which was actually more expensive when I bought it.) This is a mediocre bike at best, MAYBE one step above a big box store bike, just maybe. I wanted a simple bike that would last while, but I will be surprised if this one makes it one summer. Paint chips easily and the white bike seat is clean for only the first few minutes out of the box. The components seem cheap and the frame does not seem very solid. The difference bet...

    Magna Carta Cake.
    2007-09-03 07:59:00
Today, September 3rd …Today, if I don’t get lost en route from Norwich and Lincoln, I will be visiting my aunt and uncle in Lincoln. The city of Lincoln has a connection with my home town of Brisbane, Australia. During the country’s bicentennial year, Brisbane hosted ‘Expo ‘88’, which was enormous fun (and in fact we are still enjoying its legacy as the Expo site became our wonderful South Bank riverside public park, complete with inner-city beach). One of the other wonderful treats that year was that the Lincoln Cathedral copy (one of four that survive) of the historic Magna Carta was brought to Brisbane and put on display for all to see.The Magna Carta, or ‘Great Charter of Freedoms’ established for the first time the principle that the power of the king could in fact be limited. It was signed, apparently fairly reluctantly, by King John at Runymede on the Thame in 1215. It was a truly amazing experience in this country with such a short history, to be able to actuall...
