| The Maple Leafs Are Really Good | | 2008-02-06 14:51:00 | | Seriously? 8-0 against the Panthers?Holy shit Brett McLean scored five points. He only had 11 points in the 39 games he had played prior to last night; the poor guy scores less than I do.And it costs $300 to see the Leafs play at home. Honestly people, is the city of Toronto comprised entirely of mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging morons or did Boston start up some kind of citizen exchange program?... | | By: Dear Lord Stanley | | |
| | Don't Hire The Maple Leafs As Your Financial Advisor | | 2007-11-26 14:28:00 | | Why did nobody tell me the Maple Leafs are paying Pavel Kubina $5 million a year? Why did David Amber have to clue me in late last week with his column about over-priced players?Just look at the photo above. The asshole bought a Ferrari. Seriously, Pavel Kubina? $5 million a year?! Sure, he's having a decent season so far, but it's not like he's Scott Niedermayer or anybody like that. Kubina is a career -85, and that includes his time on the Cup-winning Tampa Bay Lightning. Speaking of which, that's about as close to the Cup that most of the Maple Leafs are ever going to come. Blame Kubina's salary, or his Ferrari.... | | By: Dear Lord Stanley | | |
| | Maple Leafs shopping Stajan to make room for Peca? | | 2007-07-27 18:01:14 | | Paul Hunter of the Toronto Star reports that the Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to trade forward Matt Stajan in order to make room under their salary cap ceiling so they can re-sign unrestricted free agent forward Mike Peca.

Apparently, the Maple Leafs want Peca back. But first, they would like to clear some cap space first. The Maple Leafs currently have a cap hit of more than $48 million.
“They have some cap issues they’re trying to resolve,” Peca said yesterday.
A Stajan trade would clear $875,000 for the upcoming season, a sum that will likely cover Peca’s asking price. The veteran forward admits that he is not looking to cash in on his next contract.
“(Money) is really not an issue with me,” Peca said yesterday before participating in the NHL Players’ Association charity golf tournament at The Club at Bond Head, north of the city.
“It’s really about getting back in. Kind of like it was last year. I j... | | By: Rumor Me This

According to Peca, Maple Leafs management contacted his representatives about a week ago, “claiming they still have interest in bringing him back.”
But time is of the essence for Peca, and the Maple Leafs. The feisty forward admits to receiving multiple offers, “including a lucrative one that caught him by surprise.” So, if the Maple Leafs really want him, they better act fast.
“When you are presented with options that are so exciting, you have to very much consider them.”
“I would like to have something done in the next five days to a week,” Peca said. “I’ve got to consider living arrangements, school arrangements for the kids, things like that.”

Despite signing a three-year contract earlier last month, Vancouver Canucks goalie Cory Schneider may be used as trade bait, according to the Boston Globe’s Fluto Shinzawa.
Matt Paulson of the East Valley Tribune reports that the Phoenix Coyotes are undergoing contract negotiating with defenseman Keith Ballard regarding a long-term deal. The club is also talking about a new contract with fellow restricted free agent forward Joel Perrault.
Woody Paige of the Denver suggests that the Colorado Avalanche should bring unrestricted free agent forward Peter Forsberg. Paige contends that Forsberg could help the club win another Stanley Cup.

| | Maple Leafs, Oilers talking trade for Kubina? | | 2007-06-30 16:05:36 | | Tim Wharnsby of Globe on Hockey reports that the Toronto Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers are involved in trade talks regarding defenseman Pavel Kubina.
With eight defenseman on the roster, the Maple Leafs are looking to bring that number down to seven. Moving Kubina would not only clear a roster spot, but would also give the leafs some salary cap room to sign an unrestricted free agent on July 1st - Kubina has a $5 million cap hit for the next three years.
As for the Oilers, they are said to be interested in an offensive defenseman who can run their powerplay while providing a steady presence on their own blueline.

| Sundin’s agent says contract talks with Maple Leafs to start soon | | 2007-05-10 16:13:55 | | The agent for Toronto Maple Leafs captain Mats Sundin tells Mike Zeisberger of the Toronto Sun that he expects to resume discussions with team GM John Ferguson Jr. about a new contract for his client.
“We expect to resume talks soon, absolutely,” J.P. Barry, Sundin’s agent, said. “Taking into account the due diligence being done on both sides, we would like to continue working to get something done.”
The Maple Leafs are trying to sign Sundin to a more cap-friendly salary, and have between June 1-15 to do so. The Leafs have until the 15th to pick up the option on Sundin’s contract.
“That means that, in order to eliminate the option, they probably have until June 15, although ideally we’d like to have something sooner.”
If the Leafs can’t re-sign their captain by that date, they have two choices. They either decline the option and he becomes an unrestricted free agent, or they pick up the option and the Leafs will remain on ... | | By: Rumor Me This
| | MLSE split on whether to keep Ferguson as Maple Leafs GM | | 2007-05-09 19:05:26 | | Tim Wharnsby of the Globe and Mail reports that John Ferguson Jr.’s tenure as Toronto Maple Leafs GM could be coming to an end.
Sources indicate that when Ferguson presents his plans for the future of the franchise in front of the Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment board of directors, he will have to really impress his bosses in order to keep his job.
“John should treat this meeting very seriously,” the source said. “There are people on the board who want him out. He doesn’t have everyone’s support, by any means.”
When asked about the situation, MLSE chief operating officer Richard Peddie, a believed ally of Ferguson’s, scoffed at the idea that the GM will be let go if he does not wow the board.
“No, John has a contract through next year, and we’re constantly looking at ways to improve and get better, but he has a contract and that’s where we’re at,” Peddie said.

| | | Joseph eyeing return to Maple Leafs? | | 2007-03-02 16:01:15 | | Phoenix Coyotes Curtis Joseph tells Mike Zeisberger of the Toronto Sun that he is not opposed to the possibility of re-signing with the Toronto Maple Leafs in the summer.
“I was born and raised in the Toronto area, and the most important factor in any decision is my family.”
“If I don’t re-sign with Phoenix, it would be nice,” he said.
Some reports indicate that the Leafs may have some desire of their own to re-acquire their former star goalie. Prior to the February 27 trade deadline, the Leafs are said to have inquired about Joseph’s availability, but they could not put together a deal that made sense for Phoenix.
As an unrestricted free agent come July 1st, Joseph will be able to pick and choose where he will play next season. The goalie has made it clear that Phoenix and Toronto are his destinations of choice.
