| Banks started increasing margins on home loans | | 2008-08-20 04:12:56 | | Expecting a fall in property rates, Banks has plans to increase the borrower's share in the actual cost of a home which is generally called as down payment.Until recently, some banks had been financing up to 90-95% of the home purchase value while the conservative ones had been giving out 85-90% of the actual price as loan. Some banks have now started increasing margins on home loans, which means borrowers will have to shell out more while buying that dream house. Margin is a cushion that a bank leaves between the actual value of the house and the amount of loan granted. In effect, the bank doesn't give out 100% of the price a buyer would have to pay. This is done to ensure that the bank is protected in case the value of the house turns out to be wrong or falls significantly. Banks usually recover the loan amount by auctioning flats of the borrowers who default on repayment. When the price of a house falls below the amount the borrower is yet to repay, the bank might fetch a lo | | By: Best Investments in India | | |

| Obama Wins North Carolina by Wide Margins, Clinton Leads in Indiana | | 2008-05-06 19:19:37 | | Shortly after polls have closed in Indiana and North Carolina, it is clear that Barack Obama has won the North Carolina Democratic primary. Senator Clinton is leading the way in early returns in Indiana by as much as 14 percent. MSNBC is projecting that if Obama gets 57 percent of the vote in North Carolina it will completely negate Clinton’s gains from the Pennsylvania primary at the end of April. On Saturday, Obama was able to pull out a victory in Guam but both candidates came away with the same number of delegates. When looking at the counties that have reported their votes in Indiana, those areas heavily favor Hillary Clinton’s demographic. However, Clinton’s lead in the vote is large in the early stages and Obama would need to make up large numbers in his areas of the state. Obama is currently trouncing Clinton in North Carolina in early returns and it is a state where Obama can make more delegate gains on Clinton. North Carolina is also not a small s | | By: The Mersman Political Blog | | |

| | iPhone: High Gross Margins | | 2007-07-03 20:13:32 | | It certainly appears as though the iPhone is going to be a cash cow for Apple. I had a chance to check one out this weekend (I’m waiting to buy until at least the second generation - hopefully the price comes way down) and they are pretty darn sleek and impressive as far as navigation. My largest wonder is how the battery will hold up.
The company is selling the devices for $600 a pop and pays roughly $265 for its components, making for a larger than 55% gross margin. If they really sell 20 million of the devices over the first couple of years, it will be a great success for the electronics developer.
In spite of the cash cow iPhone, Apple stock could still be overpriced at a 34 price/cash flow ratio, but it is hard to count this stock out as it has rocketed upwards over the past four years on some exciting products including its revolutionary MP3 player, the iPod.

| | Knowing Your Service Margins | | 2007-06-29 12:37:57 | |
Your business might be entirely service or their might be a service component to your business. In manufacturing businesses, it’s important to understand the margins that are being made on selling products. In a service business, it’s just as important to know what margins are being made on your particular services.
I don’t mean just sort of in general in terms of what you think you are making. It is knowing what are the numbers that are showing up through your financial statements.
Take a hard look at your financials. Are you really geared to know through your financials what kind of margins you’re generating from each of your core service areas?
In many cases, I find that is not so. One cause can be using cash based accounting, which can be very prevalent in service businesses. What happens then is that revenues may get booked in one period and the expenses booked in another. There’s not really the alignment between the revenues and expenses, so the company is not really a | | By: Ask Jon Paul | | |
