Stock Markets Endure Another Volatile Week
    2008-07-23 01:42:45
Markets endured another volatile week, with US markets had a better time of it than their European counterparts. There were some clear psychological levels in play last week, as markets fell to fresh multi year lows, before recovering in the second half of the week. The Dow hit 11,000 for the first time since July 2006, and the S&P 500 hit 1,200 for the first time since October 2005. The CAC came close to hitting 4,000 for the first time since May 2005, the Dax hit 6000 for the first time since October 2006, and the FTSE reached its lowest point for over three years. Markets started the week in promising fashion. News of a bailout for embattled US Government sponsored banks Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, hit the wires on Sunday, buoying the financial sector throughout Europe and the US. Alliance & Leicester also added cheer when Santander confirmed a takeover proposal, sending the shares up around 50% on the day. However, the sellers soon gained traction. Basic Differences Between Forex and Stock Markets
    2008-07-11 03:57:23
The word forex is a short form of the word Foreign Exchange, which is the basis of the commercial transactions which take place between two countries with their own currencies. The forex market refers to the trading that takes place within this area and is different from the stock market. Established since the '70s, this market deals not just with one business or investment but the entire gamut of trading and selling of currencies. While both the forex and the stock markets deal with money, the biggest difference between the two is the sheer volume of money transacted on a daily basis as well the span of operations. The forex market deals with nearly 2 trillions of dollars which in comparison to any stock market is much larger. The players in the forex market are also different, where the money transactions are done between governments, international banks and financial institutions of different countries. The amount of money which is bought, sold or traded in a forex market can quickly

    Investing In The Stock Markets
    2008-06-30 20:46:34
You have recently decided to start investing in the stock market, but you do not have any idea how it works, so you are doing a lot of research, but do you know what kind of investor you are? There are a broad range of stocks available to invest in, and ideally, you want to pick the stocks that best match your investing style. What is your investing style you may ask yourself? Well, if are you interested in short-term growth with higher risks, than you may want to look at penny stocks. If you would rather not take as much of a risk, but allow your investment to grow over time, you may want to consider some type of income stock, which sometimes can even pay a dividend on the shares that you own. A dividend is a profit sharing incentive offered by some companies on the shares of their stock to help make up for the slower growth those stocks experience. If you wish, you can invest in technology stocks, such as Google, or Yahoo, hoping to be a part of the next dot-com rush by maybe finding a

Inflation won’t derail equity markets, says Citi
    2008-06-13 15:00:00
By Rita Raagas De Ramos,Robert Buckland, chief global equity strategist at Citi Investment Research, says inflation isn’t a serious threat and suggests taking advantage of investment themes related to rising consumer prices.Global inflation has been rising for about a year, now standing at its highest level since 1999, and is among the main concerns of investors worldwide. However, Citi Global Wealth Management’s analysis of the inflationary forces around the world suggests that this round of rising consumer and producer prices should not damage the equity markets or undercut their nascent recovery. While rising costs and lower sales growth can affect corporate profits, the engine of stock market returns, it’s also important to note that commodity prices are not the most critical component of companies’ costs, says Robert Buckland, London-based chief global equity strategist at Citi Investment Research, which is part of Citi Global Wealth Management. Currency trading can be approached using a number of different methods. Many mathematical purists will tell you that technical analysis is the only way to go, swearing that they can see the future by poring over chart after chart after chart. Others glance at the trends, ruminate for a minute or two, then go with a hunch and ride a pair wherever it wants to go. Some forex traders, however, attempt to accumulate as much information as they possibly can before investing in a currency pair. These t

Asian Markets Slips into Red as Crude Oil Mark its Retreat
    2008-05-28 10:34:00
Most of the Asian indices gave up their early gains to slip into the red as a retreat in crude-oil prices hurt energy stocks in Tokyo, Sydney and in Hong Kong. Oil continued to fall following Tuesday`s sell-off as investors took profits after last week`s record highs and amid fears over slowing crude demand from the world`s biggest energy consumer, the U.S. The high prices at the pump may curb U.S. consumers` demand for gasoline going into the usually peak-demand summer driving season. Figures released Tuesday show U.S. consumer confidence has dipped to its lowest level since 1992. Signs are also emerging that high prices are starting to affect demand in Europe and key emerging Asian economies. The crude oil prices, which touched a record high of $135.09 a barrel last week, dropped in electronic trading after profit-taking dragged the front-month July contract $3.34 down to $128.85 a barrel in a regular session overnight on the New York Mercantile Exchange. 2008-05-14 01:40:00
NEW YORK - JPMORGAN Chase could cut as many as 4,000 of its own employees worldwide as the bank prepares to take on staff from Bear Stearns at the same time it deals with turmoil in financial markets, people familiar with the situation said. In addition to roughly 2,000 JPMorgan employees who will be replaced by counterparts acquired through its takeover of Bear Stearns, the sources said that an additional 1,000 to 2,000 JPMorgan employees may lose their jobs because of the slowdown in investment banking activity and credit market crisis. Final decisions dealing with specific employees have not been made, though JPMorgan is expected to decide on market-related cuts by early June, the sources said on Tuesday. JPMorgan, which expects to complete its takeover of Bear Stearns around June 1, told investors on Monday the bank had made decisions on about 10,000 of Bear's nearly 14,000 employees. Most Europe Markets Fall After Rate Decisions
    2008-05-08 13:46:39
LONDON - Most European stock markets ended lower Thursday, as the European Central Bank and the Bank of England kept interest rates on hold as they flag up inflation concerns in a period of record oil prices. The pan-European Dow Jones Stoxx 600 index closed a fraction of a percentage point lower to 329.28, with banks across Europe lower as the major central banks held rates unchanged. In London, shares of U.K. mortgage lender HBOS fell 1.2% and Barclays declined 2.5%, lower after the Bank of England kept rates on hold at 5%, a move that generated mild disappointment for investors hoping for a rate cut to shore up an ailing housing market. Likewise, the European Central Bank held its key interest rate steady as worries about euro-zone inflation outweighed concerns over an economy whose growth appears to be stalling. Scalping - When Is The Best Time Of The Day To Scalp The Forex Markets?
    2008-04-27 18:34:00
Scalping can mean different things to different traders, but I personally take scalping to mean very short-term trading, ie trades generally last just a few minutes and no longer than about an hour at most. Most of my trades last longer than this, but saying that I do still dabble in very short-term trades occasionally and generally do okay, although it is slightly more stressful and you do need quick fingers at times. However, what I've noticed is that there is definitely one period of the day that is a lot more predictable, and therefore profitable, and that is the start of the London trading session between 8.00 and 9.00 UK time.I first noticed this when trading the FTSE because having always made pretty good profits trading this index between 8.00 and 9.00, I also noticed that the major European currency pairs like the GBP/USD and the EUR/USD also behaved in a similar way. This opening hour usually tends to set the trend for the day and as a result you often see strong sustained moves

Spain markets hurting, but SIMA still draws international crowd
    2008-04-14 10:01:00
SIMA closed Saturday with attendance down only slightly from 2007. Although final figures are not yet available, show officials said the number of visitors looking for deals on the show floor was about 150,000, compared to 160,000 for last year’s edition of the world’s largest property show.he figures were welcome good news for event organizers, after the number of exhibitors fell to 600 from 800 in 2007, primarily due to the problems in Spain. Exhibition director Eloy Bohúa acknowledged “expectations were low,” considering the uncertainty of property markets around the country.
