| Band of BrothersThis ten hour epic, based on the book by Stephen E. Ambrose, originally aired as a miniseries on HBO in the fall of 2001. The film tells the tale of the men of Easy Company, following the airborne infantrymen from their training, through Normandy, and until the conclusion of the war. The incredible cast is highlighted by performances from Damian Lewis, Ron Livingston, Donnie Wahlberg, and Frank John Hughes. Even David Schwimmer is able to disconnect from his Friends character and transform into the company's unlikable commander. The only notable weak spots come from a one episode appearance from Colin Hanks (his father was executive producer) and SNL's Jimmy Fallon, whose showing is awkward, yet thankfully brief. The ten episode run begins not on the battlefield, but at Camp Toccoa, Georgia, where the bonds of brotherhood were first formed. The characters are true embodiments of the men of Easy Company--occasionally brash, tough, dirty, and rugged, but always brothers. |
