| Matsuzaka Wins His 15th Game...Boston 7 Baltimore 2...Yaz And Beckett Updates | | 2008-08-20 04:05:00 | | Daisuke Matsuzaka had another pitchfilled great start Tuesday evening at Fenway Park South in Baltimore, more commonly known as Camden Yards. He threw 105 pitches while going just 5 innings, but he only surrendered Batimore's sole 2 runs. It was 5 walks and deep pitch counts that limited him to only 5 innings of work, but his 15th win was secured, and that's with only 2 losses. His ERA stands at 2.77. Here's what he and teammate Pedey Pedroia had to say after the game..."Whether I allow hits or I allow walks, I always think that the important thing is not to allow the runners to score," Matsuzaka said through an interpreter. "That's the way I thought last year and it's still the same this year. I think I'd like to reach 15 wins every year, if possible," Matsuzaka said. "It's not that easy to get those wins.""He finds a way to win. That's all you can ask from a starting pitcher," teammate Dustin Pedroia said. "He's not giving in and we know that. Sometimes it's frustrating, but it keeps... | | By: Peter's Red Sox Forever | | |
| | Daisuke Matsuzaka Overpowering For Boston...Red Sox 4 Mariners 2 | | 2008-07-23 04:11:00 | | Tuesday night in Seattle was a night that Boston Red Sox pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka flat-out shined. The Red Sox defeated the Mariners by a score of 4-2 on the strength of seven and one third five hit, two run innings from their Japanese starter. He only allowed three bases on balls, which is good for him, and sixty one of his ninety nine pitches were strikes. He was great, and if he keeps pitching with this form and this kind of control, he'd be a lock to win twenty games. With the Tampa Bay (Devil) Rays' loss, the world champions climbed to within one half game of that perplexingly good ball club, and for a while, it looked like Daisuke would do the undoable (at least for him)...and that is pitch a complete game. Here's what he and manager Tito Francona had to say after the game, Boston's second victory in a row after three straight losses to the AL West leaders, the LA Angels..."If I couldn't throw a complete game today I don't know when I'm going to do it," Matsuzaka said through an... | | By: Peter's Red Sox Forever | | |
| | Tough Stuff : Matsuzaka Hurt In Red Sox Loss...Seattle 4 Boston 3 | | 2008-05-28 04:47:00 | | Tuesday night did not go as smoothly as the night before for the Boston Red Sox. They lost to the Mariners by a score of 4-3. Seattle scored a run in the bottom of the ninth off Mike Timlin, who should retire by the All Star break. His dismal record at Safeco Field was the reason I was surprised that he was in there in the first place, but Papelbon had pitched the day before and Okajima had thrown a sixteen pitch eighth. Why Tito Francona couldn't have run Okie out for the ninth is beyond me, and we all know now that the skipper might have blown the game. More bad news had preceded that fateful ninth, for Daisuke Matsuzaka had to leave after four innings and 65 pitches with what was preliminarily deemed "a tired shoulder." I do not like the sound of that...not one bit! Here is what he and his skipper had to say after the game..."He felt some, I guess, fatigue is the right word," manager Terry Francona said. "We're not going to run somebody out there when we think there's something wron... | | By: Peter's Red Sox Forever | | |

| Daisuke Matsuzaka Completes A Magic And Classic Fenway Tuesday, An Unforgettable Day For All | | 2008-04-09 05:07:00 | | After the emotional Red Sox Opening Day ceremonies, complete with a tearful but happy Billy Buckner, Daisuke Matsuzaka, who was warming up in the bullpen during the festivites and found a World Series ring in his locker, capped a magic day with yet another powerful and commanding performance. The Boston Red Sox beat the reeling Detroit Tigers by a score of 5-0. He went 6 2/3 innings, allowing no runs, four hits and four free passes. He had control of every one of his pitches, at least the pitches we've seen him throw in his year plus here in the States. Little Manny Delcarmen and Hideki Okajima combined for 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief and the crowd went home happy, voices strained and faces a little tear-stained. Tears of joy are a GOOD thing. Tito Francona had this to say about his starter..."I thought he did a good job addressing the task at hand, 'cause there was a lot of stuff going on," said Sox manager Terry Francona."Kevin Youkilis led the twelve hit parade with three safe... | | By: Peter's Red Sox Forever | | |
| | Baby Matsuzaka Comes Into The World | | 2008-03-16 04:33:00 | | Great news on this VERY early Sunday morning. And it was one of my wonderful readers, Red Sox-NJDevils, AKA Brittany, who brought it to my attention with her Saturday comment of my yesterday post. DAISUKE IS A DAD!! Here is the entire Boston Globe press release..."Daisuke Matsuzaka is a father again. Tomoyo, wife of the Red Sox righthander, gave birth to a boy Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m., the team said. The newborn, the couple's second child, weighed 6 pounds 10 ounces. No name for the boy was released.Matsuzaka, who pitched four innings against the Orioles in a spring training game Friday afternoon, has joined his wife in Boston and is expected to return to camp in Fort Myers, Fla., in a couple of days. There was some question as to how the timing of the birth would affect Matsuzaka's availability for the Red Sox' upcoming trip to Japan, where they will open the season against the Oakland A's March 25-26. With the child safely delivered, it appears likely that Matsuzaka will accompa... | | By: Peter's Red Sox Forever | | |
| | I Say Matsui, You Say Matsuzaka | | 2007-09-29 06:39:25 | | Play-by-play man Gary Thorne, on tonight's Orioles MASN broadcast:In tonight's 5-2 win over Minnesota, Hideki Matsui provided Boston with 8 innings of 2-run, 8-strikeout ball.Hey, they're both Japanese, right? | Sox Beat Bluebirds Despite Matsuzaka Woes | | 2007-09-04 12:09:00 | | The Boston Red Sox defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 13-10 in a game that was needlessly too close. They had a 10-1 lead, but Daisuke Matsuzaka, who has given up 20 runs in his last 23 2/3 innings (gulp!), imploded in the 6th inning, an inning that the Jays eventually scored 8 runs. But the bullpen, with the exception of Javy Lopez, quieted the fire and allowed the Sox to remain ahead. For good. Dustin Pedroia had another multiple hit game (3), Jacoby Ellsbury, batting leadoff, had two hits and another highlight reel catch in left-center, and Mike Lowell, doing such a great job batting fourth in the place of rehabbing Manny, had three safeties. It was a great night for the Red Sox offense. Now, on to Daisuke. He pitched only 5 1/3 innings and gave up 7 runs on 10 hits. Troubling numbers. I hope Farrell, 'Tek and Daisuke can get this sorted out.....he was lucky to get the win. Paps pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his 32nd save. Game two of the series is tonight at Fenway with a marquee pitching ... | | By: Peter's Red Sox Forever | | |
