Thank God for John McCain - He Supports a Strong Space Program
    2008-08-27 08:41:23
MORE OF HIS PLANSThank God for John McCain!  He wants to keep the shuttle infrastructure going past 2010 until wa have a viable replacement. He wants a strong space program!  If you have been following the on-going soap opera that is NASA and the elections, for once NASA is part of the argument, in a positive way.  Both candidates are trying to out-do one another on who will go where and do what.Bill Nelson (D-FL) thinks that John McCain will destroy NASA."... Anxious Anarchists Attack One of Their Top Allies Against McCain

MALKIN ATTACKS MCCAIN (AGAIN)(WHAT’Z NEW?)Obnoxious 9/11 Truther Alex Jones got the best of Michelle Malkin.  He is a loud, vile individual, who reminds me of a cur dog who needs to have its barker removed.  This said, Mz Malkin, in search of a headline and a story, became the story, her little self when Jones and his tawdry bunch of associates recognized her.  As much as I dislike Michelle Malkin and thing that some of Jones’ accusations had a ring of truth about them, no one, needs to be treated the way she was. Madonna, su tour, Britney y John McCain
    2008-08-25 22:05:56

Society of Supervillans endorses McCain; McCain accepts

John McCain has been endorsed by the International Society of Supervillans. In the words of the ISS: Here's what matters to us: Who is, at heart, a supervillain? We've conducted a scientific study based on eight major criteria of the two major-party candidates (we could include the third parties, but we already know Nader's got that one) to try to get to the heart of the matter. A Pink Flamingo I Told You So - McCain Ahead in New Mexico
    2008-08-24 18:59:17
COLOR NEW MEXICO RED!The Pink Flamingo has been repeatedly telling you that there is a good chance John McCain is ahead in New Mexico.  The latest Mason-Dixon numbers are just in.  It's just 45%-41% but I'll take it!  This poll, taken last week, dealing with the west ( AZ, NM, CO, NV, UT, WY) has McCain ahead everywhere but Colorado.  More recent Colorado numbers are looking good.  Joe Monahan thinks Biden is going to help Obama in NM's rural areas, but I'm just not seeing that. Comment on Brad DeLong's GDP Estimate under Obama vs. McCain
    2008-08-22 23:00:00
Misleading Claim from Furman and GoolsbeeIn last week's now famous Wall Street Journal op-ed by Obama advisors Austan Goolsbee and Jason Furman, they make the following claim in support of their candidate:In contrast, Sen. McCain has put forward the most fiscally reckless presidential platform in modern memory. The likely results of his Bush-plus policies are clear. As Berkeley economist Brad Delong has estimated, the McCain plan, as compared to the Obama plan, would lower annual incomes by $300 billion or more in real terms by 2017, costing the typical worker $1,800 or more due to the effect of large deficits on national savings and thus capital formation. Sen. McCain's neglect of critical public investments would further impede economic growth for decades to come. They are referencing this Brad DeLong back-of-the-envelope calculation of what he projects would be the debt-imposed effect on long-run GDP from likely Obama and McCain fiscal policies. But the fact that Goolsbee and Furman

    Silence from Obama and McCain
    2008-08-22 10:42:00
Maybe we're a bit impatient, but we haven't yet received a response from the major candidates for President concerning our questions about their positions on special education law. Perhaps two weeks is not sufficient time to respond, but we are beginning to wonder if we will receive any official response. Our fear is that we are being ignored. After all, we're Special Ed and WE VOTE!The blogosphere is well suited for this sort of in-depth candidate issue inquiry. We hope that the candidates agree. We will also send them a copy of this impatient blog post. Some of you have pointed out various education positions of the candidates. My favorite is this examination of the education positions on the candidates websites by the Council for Exceptional Children which appears to be both fair and informative: http://www.cec.sped.org/AM/Template.cfm?Section=Home&Template=/CM/ContentDisplay.cfm&ContentID=10450Please let us know if you have additional information about the candidates posit

    Obama/Clinton, Stronger Against McCain?
    2008-08-22 03:26:23
Senator Barack Obama will make his vice presidential choice public on Friday or Saturday of this week. Obama is set to speak in Springfield, Illinois on Saturday with his running mate. Obama said on Thursday that he would not give anymore hints as to whom it would be. Obama smiled and said, “I've made the selection, that's all you're gonna get.” Senator Joseph Biden, Senator Evan Bayh, and Governor Tim Kaine are said to be on Obama’s short list. How likely is it that Obama will pick someone that is not on this short list? We do not know the answer to this because we are not Obama, but if you look at the way the race has been going the answer changes. McCain has halved Obama’s lead in national polls in the last week. McCain’s negative campaigning and attacks on Obama are having a major impact on the polls. A Wall Street Journal/NBC poll published this past Wednesday, found that only 52 percent of people who voted for Clinton in the primary h

Does John McCain Know How Many Houses His Wife Owns?
    2008-08-21 23:00:54
JOHN MCCAIN'S SMART WIFEThe Obama Campaign thinks they have John McCain hog-tied, hung, deleted, and on the ropes over the latest John McCain being John McCain.  The man is so absurdly honest the press still doesn’t know how to handle him, even after 8 years. He doesn’t care what he says.  Neither do I.  My mouth gets me in trouble all the time.  Evidently so does John McCain’s. There’s more here than just the usual campaign rantings of desperation. It reeks of class(less) warfare.  There’s also something of a double standard here.  There was nothing wrong for John Kerry ...

    2008-08-21 20:37:09
Americans like presidents with whom they can empathize. They thought both Reagen and Clinton (two of the most popular presidents ever) were "like them," they thought G.W. Bush was the kind of guy you could drink a beer with (despite the fact that he's a tee-teetotaler). Jill already wrote a great post about this, but I thought I would quickly follow-up.

DNC Losing Control: Demands Investigation Into McCain Campaign Finance
    2008-08-20 13:25:24
With the new Reuters/Zogby poll released today showing that John McCain has a 5-point lead over Barack Obama, the Democrats are beginning to panic. As a result, the Democratic National Committee filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission to investigate John McCain's alleged election law violation. This is so typical of the Democratic Party: Whenever you are losing the race, just claim the other side is cheating. So what do they allege John McCain did? They assert that he "unilaterally" withdrew from federal matching funds without asking for permission to do so from the FEC. Evidently, they argue that McCain had to get permission before he withdrew from federal matching funds. However, if you lie about your intentions to receive federal matching funds, like Barack Obama, it appears to be okay.Barack Obama, when he was having difficulty raising money last year said he would accept federal matching funds. He argued that money was too much of a factor in deciding elections.

    McCain Ahead of Obama?
    2008-08-20 10:14:59
According to recent polls McCain has actually gained ground Obama and pulled ahead. Zogby polls has McCain at a five percent lead which represents an eleven point gain from last months poll. From Zogby:McCain leads Obama by a 46% to 41% margin. And McCain not only enjoys a five-point edge in a two-way race against Obama, but also in a four-way contest including liberal independent candidate Ralph Nader and Libertarian Bob Barr, the poll reveals. In the four-way contest, McCain wins 44% support, Obama 39%, Barr 3% and Nader 2%. This latest Reuters/Zogby poll is a dramatic reversal from the identical survey taken last month – in the July 9-13 Reuters/Zogby survey, Obama led McCain, 47% to 40%. In the four-way race last month, Obama held a 10-point lead over McCain. So what happened? There are several possibilities like Obama burnout, summer doldrums, a post Georgia bump, a post Saddleback bump, or all of the above. Additionally I think that Obama's run to the center has caused a wan

McCain's taxman v. Obama's taxman! Taxing times ahead?
    2008-08-20 06:10:56
John McCain's senior economic adviser is Doug Holtz-Eakin and Barack Obama's senior economic adviser is Austan Goolsbee. The BBC had the grand idea of putting them head to head.Mr Goolsbee said, "Barack Obama's tax cuts for ordinary Americans are three times larger than John McCain's. The way that John McCain's package ends up being three to four trillion dollars more is that they give humungous tax cuts to high income people and large corporations." One in the eye for McCain.Mr Holtz-Eakin told the BBC, "In this economy in the past six months with over 400,000 jobs lost we've seen the small businesses - those with less than 50 employees - add 283,000 jobs."He underlined the importance of not damaging those small businesses. "Keep them in a position where they don't have onerous health care costs and mandates to provide expensive benefits to their employees." Which basically implies that Obama would stifle enterprise.I think the only way to get out of this mess is for BOTH business and

DNC Distorts John McCain's $5 Million Statement
    2008-08-19 18:52:39
After the most recent debate between John McCain and Barack Obama, John McCain had a brilliant answer in response to taxing the rich. He clearly explained that he did not want to raise taxes on anyone. Instead, he hopes everyone can be rich.He also explained very clearly that he did not want to play class warfare to divide our Country. His most compelling argument was there are people in America who work sixteen hours a day that Barack Obama would consider rich, and sadly Obama wants to punish them with higher taxes. That is poor economic policy during a downturn.Nevertheless, the Democratic Party came out with a new attack ad that literally takes John McCain's statements out of context regarding his statement that people who make $5 Million are rich. One has to believe after seeing this video that the Democrats think their entire constituency is made up of idiots. Please 5 star this video on YouTube.Related EditorialsWill Obama Cry that the Russians Cheated?Moveon.org Sends Message t

McCain and Obama able in Christian den!
    2008-08-19 06:37:15
It is typically American today that the two candidates from the main political parties have to go to some born-again Christian temple to open their hearts, minds and souls. In England it is usually the local vicar or some civic dignatory that puts on a "hustings" event. Not so in America, or at least not anymore. There you have some preacher, probably vetted to see if there are no skeletons in the cupboard, introducing the duo so they can empty their closets in public to show off their skeletons.I would not put much store by these events. The devil in me thinks it is partly to boost the career of the preacher concerned. Coming from a part of Christendom where this kind of publicity-led preaching is unheard of (apart from Anglicans getting publicity from disagreements!), I find it slightly uneasy that prim and proper people should be delving into the personal lives of others in such a way. The troubling aspect for me about "born-again Christians" is that the "I'm Saved!" mantra dispels

    2008-08-17 23:00:00
If this campaign has taught us much of anything, it's that tax policy is not Sen. McCain's area of expertise. That's hopefully why if elected he will rely on advisor Doug Holtz-Eakin regarding all things tax policy. His lack of knowledge on the topic was evident on Saturday night when asked to "define rich" by Pastor Rick Warren (a very good question yet one that a more confrontational interviewer should ask in order to follow-up/pin-down both Obama and McCain ). Here's what McCain said (emphasis added):“Some of the richest people I’ve ever known in my life are the most unhappy. I think that rich is — should be defined by a home, a good job and education and the ability to hand to our children a more prosperous and safer world than the one that we inherited. I don’t want to take any money from the rich. I want everybody to get rich. I don’t believe in class warfare or redistribution of the wealth. But I can tell you for e

Both McCain and Obama Are Actually Seeking Higher Gas Prices
    2008-08-14 23:00:00
You've heard all the advertisements from both sides. Obama accuses McCain of supporting "big oil." McCain accuses Obama of wanting higher taxes on energy, as a newly released ad does again. But what both sides won't tell you is that each supports a policy that is designed (intentionally) to raise the price of motor gasoline.McCain says he wants offshore drilling to expand supply, yet at the same time, he supports a "cap-and-trade" system that is an implicit tax designed to raise the price at the pump in order to encourage conservation and the substitution to alternative fuels (thereby supposedly improving the environment). Obama says he'll go after "big oil" and speculators in an effort to lower prices, yet he too supports a "cap-and-trade" program to combat global warming that will end up raising the price at the pump.Overall, this ad war over who can lower gas prices is merely part of the continual deception that b

Ad Wars: Obama Hits McCain On The Economy
    2008-08-14 01:42:03
Remember to check out our YouTube channel, Political Realm TV, which now has more than 100 subscribers and over 650 videos.Presidential WatchBarack Obama continues to push back hard against John McCain, releasing a tough new ad today in sixteen battleground states. The ad previews a mock book--Economics by John McCain--noting that he supports President Bush 95% of the time and linking our economic slowdown to the continued spending in Iraq, which just reported a $79 billion surplus. The ad then switches from black and white to full color as it highlights Obama's economic plan. The 30-second spot concludes with the tag "Barack Obama: The middle class first," which is certainly a dig at McCain's off and on "America First" theme.Senate Watch: ColoradoEnergy has become the focal point in the Colorado race and in his latest effort, "Line," Democrat Mark Udall pushes for an investment in alternative energies, new technologies, and increased production. Would 101 Million Families Not Benefit from McCain's Tax Plan?
    2008-08-13 23:00:00
In an op-ed in this morning's Wall Street Journal, Obama economic advisors Austan Goolsbee and Jason Furman make this claim:"In contrast (to Obama's plan), Sen. McCain's tax plan largely leaves the middle class behind. His one and only middle-class tax cut -- a slow phase-in of a bigger dependent exemption -- would provide no benefit whatsoever to 101 million families who do not have children or other dependents, or who have a low income."This statement is somewhat misleading given the use of the term "family." Family, according to Census, does not include singles, meaning that there are actually less than 100 million families in the United States, as defined by Census.Properly interpreted, the 101 million figure is correct. However, it would be more correct to use the term "tax return" or "tax unit" instead of family. The average American may not understand the difference, but Furman and Goolsbee do.Using the 2004 IRS public use file,

    Exxon-McCain '08: Now That's a Ticket I Can Support!!

UPDATE 08/13/08: See below, I just made a new video on this subject. The Democratic National Committee, like Moveon.org, is seeking to woo its base of economic illiterates with a new John McCain attack ad. This new advertisement portrays John McCain as "Exxon John," who is in bed with Big Oil. It also blames the price of oil on the Oil companies themselves. Arguments like these can only work with people who have no understanding of how the world works. There is no other justification for this ad unless you believe that the base of your party are a bunch of mind-numb robots. In order to be persuaded by its message, one must believe that oil company profits are harmful for the American economy even when most middleclass pensions invest in oil companies. One must also believe that the oil companies are responsible for the price of oil when Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid continue to make it illegal to drill. It is interesting how the politicians, the people who are truly responsible for de

McCain tries to trash Obama - Olympic style!
    2008-08-13 04:05:07
John McCain's people are all about negative advertising, it would appear. We are to suppose that the average American is sitting watching TV thinking "Gee, this Obama is a screwball! I won't vote for HIM!" I have this vision of young Kevin from the Wonder Years as his dad tries to watch the TV news so he can give his squabbling family his take on the world's problems. Kevin shrugs his shoulders as usual!Surely all this is a waste of time. Americans are crying out for a new way forward. Obama is the only one available that will give positive action in this direction. This response from Tucker Bounds, a McCain spokesman, is disingenuous in the extreme. He says McCain is "focused on ensuring that voters have the best information possible to make an informed decision on Election Day." I doubt that very much. However, if the US media was not so strapped down to the floor by advertising moguls and corporate lobbyists, then I would believe him. However, the real world suggests he is wrong. I

Obama Responds to Negative McCain Campaign
    2008-08-11 23:37:00
John McCain had promised the American people an honorable campaign. Instead McCain and the Republican National Committee are going out of their way to spend exuberant amounts of money to smear Senator Obama. McCain has been throwing the kitchen sink at Obama and we have not even reached the conventions. McCain has played the race card, compared him to Paris Hilton, and claimed Obama wants to loose the war in Iraq. Barack Obama recently released his own celebrity ad. “For decades he has been Washington’s biggest celebrity…and as Washington embraced him, John McCain hugged right back,” the ad says. The ad continues by saying: “The lobbyists running his low road campaign. The money, billions in tax breaks for oil and drug companies, but almost nothing for families like yours. Lurching to the right, then the left, the old Washington dance. Whatever it takes. A Washington celebrity playing the same old Washington games.” At the end of July, Obama spo

Georgian Crises reveals key difference between McCain and Obama
    2008-08-11 00:46:00
We may have just been been provided with a sample of how the next President of the United States would react in a crisis involving a major regional power - in this case Russia.John McCain says, “Tensions and hostilities between Georgians and Ossetians are in no way justification for Russian troops crossing an internationally recognized border.” He also called on, “Russia to immediately and unconditionally withdraw its forces from the territory of Georgia.” ... Barack Obama called for, “talks among all sides and said the United States, the U.N. Security Council and other parties should try to help bring about a peaceful resolution.” Obama looked forward to “an international peacekeeping force” under “an appropriate UN mandate.” ...Summing up, John McCain bluntly denounces Russia’s behavior demanding that they immediately and unconditionally withdraw. Conversely, Obama wants to shift the responsibility to the masters of ineffectiveness, the U.N.Further reading: The

John McCain has released a new political ad on youtube that shows many prominent Democrats, (including Howard Dean, Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, Russ Fiengold, and even president Obama himself) praising John McCain.  This ad, which I read about here, is designed to show Democrats that John McCain is willing to work with them.      If this story about Joe Lieberman being on John McCain’s short list of possible vice presidential candidates is true than there is one thing that can no longer be debated; John McCain is more interested in trying to appeal to Democrats than trying to get the Republican base behind him.  John McCain is not running as [...]

    John McCain Hits His Stride
    2008-08-09 16:39:13
Over the past few months political pundits have blasted John McCain and his advisors for running a terrible campaign. While some of the criticism regarded the lack of energy and inspiration that the campaign generated, much of the general disdain had to do with John McCain’s refusal to attack Obama for his obvious incompetence. In fact, the great motivation behind Rush Limbaugh’s “Operation Chaos” was that the Clintons were willing to attack Obama, but the McCain camp was not.John McCain’s new campaign advertisements, however, appear to be relieving all the concern that has accumulated over the past few months. One of the best examples of this is the new assault on Barack Obama’s energy plan, which sadly is nothing more than inflating our tires. As soon as Barack Obama stated, “There are things you can do individually, though, to save energy. Making sure your tires are properly inflated — simple thing. But we could save all the oil that they’re talking about getti

Radical Right Warns McCain: No Moderates For VP… Or Else

John McCain TV Commercial for Barack Obama with Britney Spears, Paris Hilton is Making Fun of Two Women Not Perfect but Still Human Beings

I never thought I would be blogging about Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Barack Obama and John McCain all in the same blog posts. So much talk on the news shows all this week talking about the John McCain TV commercial with Britney Spears, and Paris Hilton in it. I have to admit it is getting attention it has everyone talking about it. My personal thoughts on this ad it is making fun of young women with celebrity stereotype. I do think the commercial is in bad taste that McCain is making fun of

McCain Continues to Distort the Facts on Energy
    2008-08-07 07:28:00
Speaking to a crowd of bikers in South Dakota, John McCain continued to distort the truth behind proper tire inflation and Senator Barack Obama’s energy plan. “My opponent doesn’t want to drill. He doesn’t want nuclear power. He wants you to inflate your tires." McCain added, “We’re not going to achieve energy independence by inflating our tires.” There is only one true thing that John McCain said in that statement about Barack Obama, and that is that he does want Americans to inflate their tires. Barack Obama has said he is not a proponent of nuclear power but he has not ruled it out as part of a comprehensive plan. Obama has said that nuclear is not one of our best options because of the dangers involved and the hazardous waste it produces. Obama has also said that limited drilling would be a part of his energy plan. This was made clear by Senator Obama in a speech given in Lansing, Michigan on August 4th. Most importantly, McCain has con

McCain vs Obama on Special Education - Dear Candidate

We announced recently that we would be sending the presumptive nominees of the two major political parties for President some questions on special education law. We feel strongly that the two have said very little about special education, and we feel that there is a need for our readers to have some information. Thanks to all who have made suggestions. We will be sending and email to the candidates web addresses that will include the following content after a brief explanation as to who we are:Dear Candidate: ...Please provide your answers regarding these questions pertaining to special education as well as any other positions on special education that you have. We will share all relevant answers we receive with our readers:1. Please state your position regarding "full" funding of the individuals with Disabilities Education Act, "IDEA." McCain's Proud Moments
    2008-08-05 23:00:00
John McCain has a long voting record, and it is filled with many votes that he probably regrets. Speaking of which, there are his votes against the Bush tax cuts in 2001 and 2003, which he now favors extending (and more). There's his support for non-tax issues (such as the war, McCain-Feingold, and others.) But there have been those moments in John McCain's voting record that sound fiscal policy can speak proud of, such as these laws that ultimately were signed into law by Pres. Bush (whose fiscal policy record is nothing to praise):Energy Bill of 2005: McCain joined six other Republicans and 20 Democrats (including Jeffords) to vote against this pathetic piece of legislation that loaded billions in subsidies to oil companies, ethanol producers, and thousands of other earmarks to various political constituencies. The only way you could have gotten any energy out of this bill would be to set it on fire. We blogged about how bad this bill was here, here, here, he

PAGING DR. GINGRICHWouldn't it be interesting if the GOP members of Congress have tapped into something with their protest against Nancy Pelosi?  The latest Gallup numbers show there is a window, just a small one, but there is a window of opportunity to make some inroads in the House this year.  I think the American people want to see a little bit of courage.  And, like Medved pointed out yesterday on his show, they don't like to vote for "angry" people.  If they can keep their heads.... McCain Finally Understands the Message: Attack Congress and Drill Here
    2008-08-05 13:27:10
John McCain is finally receiving audiences that really make a difference in a campaign. This past Monday, thousands of motorcyclists greeted John McCain at one of the largest biker rallies in America. These are typically the Reagan Democrats that have been the deciding factor in so many Republican victories.McCain addressed the crowd by stating:"As you may know, not long ago a couple hundred thousand Berliners made a lot of noise for my opponent. I'll take the roar of 50,000 Harleys any day."I could not have said it better myself. The fact of the matter is that 50,000 American motorcyclists have a better chance of electing our President than all the European citizens that Obama can muster after a concert. Moreover, McCain seems to be getting the fact that he should be running against Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid who are widely unpopular. In response to Madame Speaker's shutting down of Congress and CSPAN to fly back home on her private jet to San Francisco, John McCain said:"Tell em'

McCain Was For Tire Inflation Before He Was Against It
    2008-08-04 21:35:52
John McCain has become like a double sided coin of presidential politics this election. Flip the coin one way you get one McCain, flip it again, and you get another McCain. McCain is attacking Obama from several different vantage points with his television and radio ads and while on the campaign trail. McCain recently attacked Obama for proposing that Americans maintain the proper tire pressure in their cars saying that the idea was not enough to curb are dependency on foreign oil. In a town hall meeting the next day McCain said, “my friends lets do that.” The McCain campaign mocked the Obama proposal and McCain portrayed it as the only energy proposal Obama was offering. McCain does not even wait one day to contradict himself, he waits until the next sentence. “Yesterday, he suggested we put air in our tires to save on gas. My friends, let’s do that. But do you think that’s enough to break our dependence on Middle Eastern oil? I don’t t

McCain Needs to Run Against the Democratic Congress
    2008-08-04 13:01:44
Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid took control of Congress in 2006 after people refused to tolerate Big Government Republicanism any longer. The Republicans, who once stood for smaller government, simply went against their conservative principles and were punished accordingly. But, with that being said, I doubt that many of the American people who voted for the Democrats knew what they were really getting in return. In order to get elected, the Democrats promised to make government more transparent and to allow the political minority in Congress a chance to bring legislation to the floor; the liberal press previously trashed the Republicans for not allowing the Democrats a voice. Well, not only did Pelosi and Reid break every one of their promises, they have presided over one of the worst politically manufactured debacles in history. The price of oil, food, and all other consumer goods has been driven up as a direct result of the Democrats making it illegal for the oil companies to drill, a

    McCain Pickup Option 1: Michigan
    2008-08-04 12:18:00
By now, everyone has heard reason after reason why the Democrats should win the White House and increase their majorities in Congress this year. Bush is unpopular. Iraq is unpopular. Gas prices are high. The economy is shaky. The natural political pendulum has swung right for the past 6 or 7 years and is now lurching back towards the left. Barack Obama is raising boatloads of money. John McCain is not a gifted political speaker. Most of the electorate thinks the nation is on the wrong track. And the Democrats are seeing their registration numbers climb while the Republicans' numbers are stagnant or falling. However, John McCain can still win the White House. And a McCain victory seems to be the best shot Republicans have of avoiding a complete shutout in November. In terms of the electoral map, it is true that he will be on defense more than offense, contrary to Barack Obama. However, McCain's pickup opportunities are so significant that if he were to win just one of these states, it wo

Kissinger and McCain on Iraq and the wider War on Terror
    2008-08-03 06:11:00
"... he (Kissinger) correctly sees America as the “the indispensable component of any attempt to build a new world order.""... he (McCain) referred to Islamic extremism as “the central threat of our time, and we must understand the implications our decisions on all manner of regional and global challenges could have for our success in defeating it.”...According to Henry Kissinger, an advisor to McCain, the situation in Iraq has changed that much, the political debate (John McCain vs. Barack Obama) about this topic is practically, superfluous. “Almost all objective observers agree that major progress has been made on all three fronts of the Iraq war: Al-Qaeda, the Sunni jihadist force recruited largely from outside the country, seems on the run in Iraq; the indigenous Sunni insurrection attempting to restore Sunni predominance has largely died down; and the Shiite-dominated government in Baghdad has, at least temporarily, mastered the Shiite militias that were challenging its a

Obama to be tried and tested the McCain way?
    2008-08-01 02:58:05
There's a well-known firm in Britain called McCain. They make "oven chips" which are potatoes neatly chipped, then frozen so the customer can put them in the oven to get something ressembling a deep fried potato chip that is the mainstay of fish and chips. How good this process is and how fine the results are has been the stuff of food scientists. They have tried to replicate the fat fryers in the domestic ovens.Senator Obama is being seen by the Republican Party as an untried and untested potato head. They are gearing up to put him through the slicers and the ovens of the presidential campaign by seeing how he reacts to their barbs and broadsides. What a carry on? If this is to be the level of the debate, then Heaven help us all! We are being subjected to talk about shoe selection (Imelda Marcos style?), about personal tastes, and music appreciation. Does McCain always buy $500 shoes? It is all too banaal. We need a proper debate about dealing with the credit crunch fraudsters, the Ir

    McCain Going Negative?
    2008-08-01 01:07:55
This is either a sign of things to come from the McCain campaign or a major screw up. His campaign released a new ad five days ago that proves to be less than truthful. From Fact Check:A new McCain ad says Obama "made time to go to the gym, but canceled a visit with wounded troops. Seems the Pentagon wouldn't allow him to bring cameras."McCain's facts are literally true, but his insinuation – that the visit was canceled because of the press ban or the desire for gym time – is false. In fact, Obama visited wounded troops earlier – without cameras or press – both in the U.S. and Iraq. And his gym workouts are a daily routine. What really happened? Obama planned to visit wounded troops at a medical center in Germany until the Pentagon said it would not allow him to bring a retired Air Force major general who is one of the campaign's foreign policy advisers. The Democrat may have been poised to blur the line between political events and official troop visits by members of Congress. B

Ted Stevens and an Opportunity for McCain
    2008-07-30 07:59:00
Powerful Republican Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska has been indicted for concealing gifts and services and making false statements. Even though he claimed to be surprised by this, he had been under investigation for many months. Sen. Stevens is well known for the funding he is able to secure for his state, including the infamous "Bridge to Nowhere."On its face, this latest indictment couldn't have come at a worse time for Republicans who are still reeling from the 2006 midterm elections in which they were heavily punished for their ethical transgressions. Of course, Democrats were not without their ethical woes, but they paled in scope and number to Republicans, as is evidenced by Bob Ney, Duke Cunningham, Mark Foley, and Larry Craig. The Stevens indictment simply reminds voters of Republican corruption and makes Barack Obama's message of "change" and "new politics" a bit more resonant.Veteran Democratic Senator Daniel Inouye defended Stevens and believed he was innocent. New McCain Ad Accuses Obama of Wanting to Impose New Taxes on Electricity
    2008-07-29 23:00:00
A new ad from Sen. John McCain is questioning whether Barack Obama is just a rock star, or whether he is ready to lead. But in the ad, McCain gets specific by accusing Obama of wanting to raise taxes on electricity. According to Newsday blogger John Riley, the source of this statement is based on a comment that Obama made to a newspaper in which he said "What We Ought To Tax Is Dirty Energy, Like Coal And, To A Lesser Extent, Natural Gas."While it is true that such a tax policy would amount to new taxes on electricity, what McCain does not tell you is that he supports what is essentially the same policy. McCain was one of the leading supporters of the Lieberman-Warner bill in the Senate, which was designed to combat climate change by implementing a cap-and-trade system for carbon emissions (dirty energy) in the United States. And a cap-and-trade system that auctions off the permits (thereby charging companies for the right to emit pollu

    McCain and the Media
    2008-07-27 22:05:00
When conservatives and Republicans hear Blacks and other ethnic minorities complain about racism, they commonly tell them to work hard, do their best, and remember that in America all things are possible for people who refuse to stay down after they get knocked down. When conservatives and Republicans hear poor and financially struggling people complain about the bad economy, housing foreclosures, and not having any money in their bank accounts, they commonly tell them to suck it up, live responsibly, and do whatever it takes to get back on their feet. They also remind them that it's important to build a safety net (a rainy day fund) in case they stumble upon hard times. This is not to say that legitimate gripes do not exist. However, complaining about racism is not going to give you the education you need to find a good job. And complaining about the big bad government or dishonest corporations is not going to give you your job back after your company goes bankrupt. When you are down,

Obama - McCain. The Choice is Clear.
    2008-07-24 00:19:43
I've been reading and seeing a lot of political stuff recently. Mostly its been about Senator Barack Obama. It's like some kind of National Lampoon Mid-East Vacation with him at the moment.Heaven help us if a news story should break here.
