From poverty to top U.S. honors By David Nitkin Sun reporter 7:30 PM EDT, June 19, 2008 WASHINGTON Baltimore neurosurgeon Benjamin S. Carson said he was "humbled" when President Bush draped the nation's highest civilian award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, around his neck Thursday. But such accolades are routine for the doctor who persevered through a childhood of poverty and urban violence to become the youngest department head at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and a benefactor distributing thousands of scholarship dollars each year.Four months ago, Carson was at the White House to receive a Ford's Theatre Lincoln Medal, awarded to individuals who exemplify the spirit of the 16th president. Medal of Honor: Allied Assault (Game)
    2008-06-11 22:45:00

Conservatives Ignore Latest Medal of Honor Ceremony - Why?
    2008-03-03 22:52:13
WOODROW KEEBLE - HEROYou 'd never know it by the activity on the conservative blogs who are always the first to celebrate this sort of thing, but today, President Bush bestowed the Medal of Honor on MSG Woody Keeble 29 years after his death.  The first full-blooded Sioux Indian to receive the highest honor this nation can bestow upon its citizens, MSG Keeble was honored for his activities during the Korean War.  Accepting the Medal of Honor in his name was his step-son Russell Hawkins. Funny how this has been basically ignored.  There's nothing on Drudge.  Malkin seems to ...

EA Offers Refund for Medal of Honor's Absent Online Play - SendMeRSS
    2008-02-12 14:48:49
EA Offers Refund for Medal of Honor's Absent Online Play EA is offering a refund to anyone who purchased the Wii version of Medal of Honor Heroes 2 in Australia who was disappointed to learn that the game lacks online functionality. EA removed the online play from the game and, oopsie,  kind of forgot to mention it to anyone, including the folks who designed the game's cover, which indicated that online was an included feature. So did the instruction manual. So did EA's website. EA admitted the documentation errors, apologized for any confusion their mistake may have created for consumers, and offered to give folks their money back. All of which is exactly the right thing to do, but why'd they take the online out in the first place? IGN speculates that the company would need to run local servers to cut down on lag, and decided they'd rather not. EA Australia, meanwhile, "do not wish to comment." Ron Paul on Voting Against Congressional Gold Medal for the Dalai Lama
    2007-10-17 07:00:00
Today, the Dalai Lama was awarded a congressional gold medal from the United States. But before the House of Representatives approved the $30,000 funding for the award on September 13th, Representative Ron Paul (R-TX), known as Dr. No for his typical opposition to government spending programs that he does not see authorized by the Constitution, had this to say as the lone voice opposing the measure. Enjoy.Mr. PAUL: Mr. Speaker, with great sadness I must rise to oppose this measure granting a congressional gold medal to the 14th Dalai Lama. While I greatly admire and respect His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and fully recognize his tremendous status both as a Buddhist leader and international advocate for peace, I must object to the manner in which this body chooses to honor him. I wonder if my colleagues see the irony in honoring a devout Buddhist monk with a material gift of gold. The Buddhist tradition, of course, eschews worldly possessions in favor of purity of thought and action. Buddhism urges its practitioners to alleviate the suffering of others whenever possible. I'm sure His Holiness the Dalai Lama would rather see $30,000 spent to help those less fortunate, rather than for a feel-good congressional gesture. We cannot forget that Congress has no authority under the Constitution to spend taxpayer money on medals and awards, no matter how richly deserved. And I reiterate my offer of $100 from my own pocket to pay for this medal--if members wish to honor the Dalai Lama, all we need to do is pay for it ourselves. If all 435 of us contribute, the cost will be roughly $70 each. So while a gold medal sounds like a great idea, it becomes a bit strange when we see the actual cost involved.Note: The PAYGO rule was not violated.

    Review: Medal of Honor: Airborne
    2007-09-16 10:38:00
entertainment/games reviews Review: Medal of Honor: Airborne (September 16th, 2007 - 1:38AM) (4 / 5 stars) One sentence summary: A polished game with some nice touches, but I can't help but feel like it's just another WWII shooter. Things I liked about Medal of Honor: Airborne: Excellent single player campaigns. If you've read the Metacritic reviews for this game, my review should seem familiar. That's because I agree with a lot of the points in the other reviews and have repeated them here. Airborne consists of about a half dozen lengthy campaigns. Although the first few are unremarkable, the last three campaigns are unique and a lot of fun. Parachuting into the level is a nice effect. You begin each campaign by parachuting onto the map. This allows you to start the level wherever you want, rather than in a fixed place. Although this barely makes the game less linear, it adds a new dimension and is certainly a positive development. Asafa Powell Targets a Gold Medal for the Beijing 2008 Olympics

Setting a new sprint world record without his staunch rival Tyson Gay, Asafa Powell sets his eyes on another goal for his track career, a Beijing 2008 Olympics Gold. But with Tyson Gay and Derrick Atkins in the Beijing Olympics as well, this goal is not going to be a "walk in the park" for him especially after he came third in the World Championships in Osaka Japan last month. Asafa Powell owns the 3 best times in the 100-meter Sprint, clocking 9.77 esconds twice & most recently smashed all records by clocking 9.74 in the Grand Prix in Rieti, Italy. Here's some more related news about Asafa Powell: Please follow the link...Asafa Powell smashes world record - Jamaican Asafa Powell set a new men's 100m record of 9.77 seconds at the Athens Olympic Stadium on Tuesday.Powell had predicted earlier this week that he would beat Tim Montgomery's previous best of 9.78, which the American set in Paris three years ago.The 22-year-old stunned a quality field but had to wait several minutes for th

110 Living Medal Of Honor Recipients
    2007-05-28 22:03:00
י"א בסיון תשס"זPoor is the nation that has no heroes, but beggard is the nation that has but forgets them.In follow-up to my previous post, here is a link to the names and information regarding the living recipients of the Medal of Honor. From Home Of Heros, regarding the Medal of Honor:The Medal of Honor may well be our Nation's rarest "gem", and the men who wear it are certainly our most "endangered species". Even most military veterans have never actually SEEN a Medal of Honor, much less met one of the few men authorized to display it around his neck. Since it was established in 1862 at the beginning of the Civil War, it has only been awarded to 3,444 heroes...almost half of them Civil War soldiersSince the beginning of World War II, only 846 Medals of Honor have been awarded. Over half that number died in their moment of heroism. Only 328 soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen from Pearl Harbor to Somalia have survived to actually wear the Medal. Today only 110 of them a
