Boring products that became Social Media Marketing Hits
    2008-08-13 13:11:24
In a very interesting article at Search engine land Brent Costuras talked about how some of the companies who didn't had anything flashy about their products ( unlike gadgets) used social media to reap huge awards. The products Brent talks about include Blenders, Taxes, Milks and Urinals and this is what he says about blendersBlendtec, a blender company, had been putting their blenders through some extreme tests to validate the quality and durability. One employee was impressed by the tests and decided to video tape a few different tests and put them on the internet. The result was one of the most viral campaigns to date. Later a "Will It Blend" website was created and they have been blending just about every new gadget that comes out on the market, continuing to stay fresh and with the current trends. The videos of Blendtec blending a ipod and iphone garnered views in millions and here is one of the "will it blend" videos below. Social Media Marketing Part One
    2008-05-09 23:56:50
It is really hard to convey how different marketing on the web is today compared to years ago. If you weren’t online “back in the day” having to wait for Google for months(instead of as little as moments today)to index and rank pages, you just don’t know. If you have no idea that we used to have [...]

If you have a user base consisting of millions of people, many of whom are technology-savvy, why not use this to your advantage? That is exactly what Dell did by essentially converting their community into a free and enormous product development team and therein lies the power of marketing using social media.Dell IdeaStorm is a website launched by Dell on February 16, 2007 to allow Dell "to gauge which ideas are most important and most relevant to" the public. IdeaStorm is a combination between a message board and Digg.com after registering, users are able to add ideas, promote them, demote them and comment on them. As ideas are promoted, their score is increased, allowing Dell to rank which suggestions and requests are considered most important by the website's users. A page is maintained to demonstrate how Dell is acting upon the suggestions, the page is only changed when the status of an idea changes to implemented. The Dell Ideastorm community has contributed almost 9,000 ideas, wh

Social media marketing needs a new name…
    2008-03-26 08:55:03
Many people involved in the South African (and Global) social media industry will agree that if anything, these past few years have taught us a lot about Web-based content and copywriting, online communities and networks, and marketing and communications on the Internet. We have also seen how numerous companies, both locally and abroad, find value [...]

    2008-02-06 00:51:35
The term ‘link bait’ refers to materials created, published and spread online with the aim of attracting links, visitors and attention. These baits are often disseminated via social media websites, particularly social news communities like Digg or Reddit. Ideally, you want as many people as possible to see these baits because this increases the potential for [...]

Social Media Marketing: Wave of the Future?
    2008-02-02 16:46:00
I figured out a really nifty thing to do on LinkedIn a few months ago... creating an HTML email signature with a link to this blog, to the PsPrint website, and to my LinkedIn profile. I was, sadly, highly amused by this function and emailed a colleague to show it off.Colleague: Oh that is cool...I am still not 100% comfortable with online communication websites but Linked In seems cool because it's business connections.Me: But it's the waaaave of the futurrrrre. And we're going to start social media marketing, so get used to it :pBack in August we decided to do a full frontal attack on social media! I can't say much yet since we're still fleshing out the procedures and nitty gritty details, but I'll be taking the lead on it. That was decided back in August and we still haven't made any progress on it, other than my blogging efforts here.It was exciting to get some new responsibilities and start working on a new project. Our mailing services is pretty automated and our affiliate pro

Link baits can come in all sorts of flavors and styles. Doshy Link Attack! Making Money Online, Social Media Marketing and Blogging Tips
    2007-08-05 21:27:48
Michelle MacPhearson lays out some warnings about making money online. The ‘make money online‘ niche is over saturated and the truth is, most of the bloggers out there won’t make too much money with their blogs. I think it’s important to emphasize on providing value over initial profits in order to build reader trust and niche authority. This is one way to stand out from the rest of the generic blogs. The biggest mistake people continue to make, despite being warned over and over not to do this, is to write a crappy blog on making money online when you’re the biggest n00bie on the block. That’s nothing against being a noobie, it’s just apparent in reading a newbie’s writing that they don’t know what the heck they’re taking about. Social Media Daniel Miessler writes that submitting your own content to Digg and Reddit is not wrong but necessary. I have seen people submit every single blog post they write to sites like Netscape, Digg, Technorati and R

Do it Yourself Social Media Marketing - A StepForth Whitepaper
    2007-06-28 16:49:00
SEO Meet SMM (Social Media Marketing) was the most information-dense seminar that I attended at SMX Advanced, a multi-day conference geared for advanced web marketing professionals. As a result, it has taken a while to view my footage and pick out all of the best tips to share with you. The SEO Meet SMM seminar was paneled with an all-star cast of Rand Fishkin, Neil Patel and Cindy Krum. Between these three incredibly bright people, and my own experience and research I have put together this whitepaper on how to use social media marketing (SMM) to your advantage. I believe this is the most current (timely), accurate and cutting edge information available for those who want to start marketing in this field. The ConceptSocial media marketing is a method of promoting your brand (be it yourself, a product, a service, or a company) by strategically making your presence known across various social media networks (such as Digg, Reddit, StumbleUpon, Myspace, etc). This may seem overly elementar
