| Mind Set: Ultimate meditation | | 2008-08-12 11:28:58 | | By Owen WatersIn The Times Of India Peace can sometimes be so far away and inner bliss, even farther away. To attain peace, spend some real quality time by going within and you will find the sense of peace that lies within. Visit the place where inner bliss dwells and waits patiently for your return.Let yourself unwind and compose yourself for a few precious moments of peace. Remember that your mind is much more far-reaching than your physical brain. Your mind, as consciousness, is non-physical, while your brain is just the physical translator of your consciousness. Your mind, therefore, always has the ability to tell your brain: “Shsh! It’s meditation time!”Focus your mind away from the clutter of day-to-day living and turn your attention inwards to the peaceful core of your inner being. Then think of the deepest possible state of consciousness. And what could that state be? It is the state of consciousness known as infinite being. The word infinite reflects the idea of ultimate | | By: Spiritual Village | | |

| | Meditation On Bloviators: The Unholy Three... | | 2008-08-05 02:12:00 | | Hate-mongering against alleged “leftist 1960s terrorists” now fills the days of anti-Obama rage for the Rovian bloviator battalion. Bill Ayers and the Weathermen, the Black Panthers, the American Indian Movement, Baby Boom professors, social workers , etc, are front and center for the hateful blatherings of the usual GOP flunkies all cowering at the prospect of an African-American president. But there were, indeed, three 1960s terrorists whose murderous, planet-killing rampage continues to poison this nation. They tower above all others. Their names: William Westmoreland, Lyndon B. Johnson, and Richard Nixon. This unholy trinity killed outright more than 55,000 Americans and several million southeast Asians—most of them innocent civilians—while bombing, strafing and spewing horrific toxic chemicals onto countless of square miles of previously pristine jungle. Their Agent Orange caused tens of thousands of deaths and deformities that still carry through the generations. No single | | By: VioletPlanet | | |

"It seems to be an indication of the need for spiritual nourishment, something that College members are not finding easily in the outside world," says Dr Sarah Eagger, chair of the Spirituality Group.Dr Eagger, consultant psychiatrist at St Charles Hospital, London, said her daily meditation practice was as important in her everyday work as her medical training. | | Meditation: Part of the Ancient Judeo-Christian Heritage | | 2008-06-17 13:37:49 | | By Dennis and Vicki MartinIn PressPubs.Com In our rushed and sometimes toxic world, most of us would like nothing more than to relax. Some people have even made a business of helping others relax. The "relaxation response" popularized by Dr. Herbert Benson of Harvard Medical School in the 1970’s is based on two simple steps common to all approaches to meditation, past and present:• focusing the mind on a single object; and• passively dismissing and ignoring all other thoughts.Although it may sound a bit "New-Agey", or at least a little mystical, meditation is also part of the ancient Judeo-Christian heritage. The Psalmist speaks often of meditation: "Blessed is the man who ... meditates in [God’s] law day and night" (Psalm 1:1-2). Since David is here speaking of an activity that can fill his days even as he works, it may be a little different from the tuned-out state one often thinks of as "meditation." | | The History Of Meditation | | 2008-06-17 11:42:50 | | By Laurie DesjardinsIn The American Chronicle "Yoga" and "meditation" seem to have become trendy words recently, and even trendier practices. But for all their modern applications, both yoga and meditation have been around for a long, long time. For more than five thousand years, meditation has been a part of human life. Though it has its roots in Hinduism, most religions throughout the globe practice one form of meditation or another.Meditation in Buddhism Siddhartha Gautama, better known as Gautama Buddha, was the founder of Buddhism thousands of years ago. Originally a pampered prince, he fled the palace and sought a life of spiritual enlightenment rather than material wealth. After meditating beneath a sacred fig tree for 49 days, Siddhartha attained enlightenment, which allowed him great insight into the cause of human suffering, as well as the process needed to eliminate it.Since the Buddha's revelation beneath the sacred fig tree, meditation has been a centerpiece of Buddhism. | | Concept for Spirit: Meditation | | 2008-06-15 10:34:08 | | Dana meditates Originally uploaded by elle_rigby Hello and welcome! This Concept for Spirit post is going to explore an important concept that everyone should become aware of called meditation. Meditation is an exercise for your mind that you do by sitting in silence. You can read more about the science of meditation at Wikipedia here, where you’ll find that there are many different forms of meditation, and that prayer is also a form of meditation. The overall goal in meditating is to silently concentrate and quiet your thoughts for you to ‘just be’. Meditation has been shown to have healing properties, is excellent for stress relief and emotional release, and is one of the most important spiritual practices that you can adopt into your life. Here is an awesome 10 minute video that can explain meditation and it’s importance a lot better than I can: (*wink)You can learn more about the different forms of mediation at About.com’s Meditation Exercises and Resources Page | | By: Spiritual Apostle

It can only be a matter of time before the celebrity yoga set joins experienced "shakers" and jets off to the ashram in Bali where it all started with the "enlightened master" Ratu Bagus."For the Westerner, it is a wonderful way to relieve stress in a physical way," says Kamini Hola, a former businesswoman in Brussels who gave it all up at the age of 34 to become a yoga teacher. Who gave you that gift of caring. How you felt. Now, travel to the most magnificent place you have seen. Enjoy the views. Pause. Listen. Smile. Appreciate.Congratulations. You have trained your brain. As Newsweek's Sharon Begley explained recently:But now neuroscientists have documented how "mere" thoughts can also sculpt the brain. | | Meditation Often Looks Silly But It Might Actually Have Medical Benefits | | 2008-05-06 10:00:39 | | Now Just Relax...By Jennifer Fisher WilsonDaily relaxation is now a doctor’s order. It comes from one of the most influential names in medicine, former U.S. Surgeon General David Satcher. At a recent meeting of doctors and health policy makers, Satcher presented an amended version of his long-touted “prescription for health”. The prescription advises Americans to practice regular physical activity, eat fresh fruits and vegetables, avoid toxins like tobacco and illicit drugs, and be responsible in sexual behavior.Recently, Satcher added a fifth item to the list: Participate in relaxing and stress-reducing activities daily. The benefits of relaxation, he said, are invaluable for good health, especially good mental health. When I went to check the scientific basis of this welcome proclamation, I discovered that one of the most reliable methods of relaxation — meditation — had become a serious subject of scientific investigation in recent years. | | Finding Peace Within - Weekend Workshop on Mindfulness Meditation in Malaysia | | 2008-05-05 12:31:35 | | I do not want the peace that passeth understanding. I want the understanding which bringeth peace. – Helen Keller PEACE is forever elusive, if not short-lived. Peace is what most of us are looking for behind the facade of our pursuit for fame, wealth and happiness. And when we finally arrive at the doorstep, instead of finding peace, we are met with dissatisfaction and unfulfilment. The question foremost in most of our minds is, where is peace? Can peace be bartered? Is peace reachable? Could peace be found within every one of us, where we are just required to recognise its presence, instead of pursuing it externally? An ancient art of self-awareness, Mindfulness Meditation is a simple yet profoundly transformative tool in bringing one to understand his or her mind deeply, ultimately leading to self-realisation and freedom.Stripping off all modes of religious beliefs, visualisations, recitations and even concentrated states, this simple technique of inner observation enables one to re | | By: Spiritual Village

Weight gain, aging, genetics -- all these are common causes of back pain. But whatever the source, it can significantly reduce your quality of life. A 2007 article published in the American Medical Association's online journal, "Virtual Mentor," revealed that 80 percent of all Americans suffer some degree of back trouble at some point in their lives, at a cost of $20 billion to $50 billion a year. While many may indeed require medical treatment, medication or other conventional methods may offer only limited relief. And others may have only periodic or light discomfort and don't need extreme treatment. If you fall into one of these categories, simple meditation techniques might be all that you need to ease your pain. | | Christian Meditation Techniques | | 2008-04-11 11:00:17 | | My posting on Christian Meditation, surprisingly, attracted a lot of attention especially from readers in Asia. They have been asking me to provide more information on the techniques employed by Christians for meditation. One reader sums up her curiosity by saying "meditation conjures an image of a bald guy, closed eyes, wearing loose clothing (or even a robe) and sitting with their legs crossed." Well, I replied her that except for the preferred technique of sitting with legs crossed and eyes closed, shaving her head and wearing loose clothing or a robe is pretty much optional.Anyway, here is one of the best articles I found on the technique of Christian meditation. Feel free to share if there are other techniques out there which you feel is better.Credits to Chris Matier for his article "Developing Christian Meditation Techniques: Practicing Intentional Worship". | | How Is Christian Meditation Different From Meditation In Other Religions | | 2008-04-09 13:09:13 | | How does Christian meditation compare with other forms of meditation? In as much as there are various forms of meditation in today's world, it is important to determine how Christian meditation compares with other forms of meditation. Christian meditation is similar to other forms of meditation in that it involves a deliberate action on the part of the individual, in time that he or she has set aside purposefully to ponder or think.Sometimes, for the Christian, meditation may arise naturally as an adjunct to prayer time. It may be dictated by the circumstances of his life at a particularly trying time. This is true of the traditional meditator who often seeks to meditate as a way to free himself from stress and turmoil. There are two major differences, however, between traditional forms of meditation and Christian meditation. In traditional forms of meditation, the individual seeks to empty one's self; in Christian meditation the believer seeks, rather, to be filled. In traditional medit | | By: Spiritual Village

A stolen girl, and maybe
A sack of silvery trinkets from the hut of her newly slain mother.

| | Gazing upon Parents with love | a meditation, an act of worship | | 2008-03-12 15:15:14 | | Meditation through gazing full of love and compassion is a beautiful sufi meditation technique. Eye is the window of the soul and it is eye which often express the inner-heart. Thus creating loving-kindness, compassion (metta in Buddhist term, mahabba in sufistic term) in the heart-space, complementing with glance to direct that love - is the basic principle of gazing meditation. The countenance of a loved person, face of an innocent child, eyes of a saint, any object that can help invoke and direct loving-kindness from heart-space may be the object of gaze. The love of parents for children are the most pure, unconditional love and hence the closest reflection of Divine Love. The status of parents are so great that the Prophet mentions that "One who pleases his parents has verily pleased God." Casting / gazing upon parents with loving-kindness is a particular action which the last messenger of God, Prophet Muhammad taught and encouraged. The Messenger of God said: “Every righteous child | | By: Inspirations and Creative Thoughts | | |

| | Muraqaba | sufi meditation beyond time and space | | 2008-03-09 03:04:37 | | In sufi tradition, Muraqaba (Gnosis of Self) is the name of that contemplation through which man is able to gain the knowledge which is the primordial knowledge of his Ego, Self, or Soul.It appears that the person performing Muraqaba is simply sitting in a pose with his or her eyes closed. However, merely shutting the eyes and assuming a specific pose does not serve the purpose. Muraqaba is in fact an angle of perception through which the person doing the Muraqaba frees himself or herself from outward senses and begins their journey in the inward senses. Now we are going to look into whether or not the Muraqaba-like conditions or states exist in us, without adopting the specific pose of Muraqaba.Freedom from outward senses happens in our daily life, both involuntarily and voluntarily. For example, we go to sleep and while sleeping our brain disconnects from outward senses. It is true that this disconnection is temporary however; this condition could not be termed as anything but disconn | | By: Inspirations and Creative Thoughts | | |

| | | meditation on full moon, symbolism and self-realization | | 2007-12-27 17:11:38 | | 1.The moon represents our human self and the full moon in particular symbolizes the state of wholeness that human being attains at full self-realization. It is the state when our self-realization comes into full circle just as moon after going through its phases finally reach the all glowing full-moon stage.By its very nature moon doesn't have its own light, thus have no ability to shine. Without the sun, it may remain oblivious forever in the night sky. In order for its illumination, it looks at the sun. Similar if the divine qualities in man is not awakened, if the divine qualities are not made to shine upon the inner heart, man is nothing. There is no difference between man and animal. There surely came over man a period of time when he was not even a thing worth mentioning. The Quran, Al-Insan, 76:1We human beings are like the moon. Just as the moon is there to reflect the light of the sun, so are human beings who are made to reflect the Light of the Divine Sun. Without the sun and its light shining upon the moon, there is no value of the moon. That is the significance of the statement full of esoteric implication, la haowla wa la quwwata illa biAllah, there is no power and transformation without that of God. Without God's illumination, human beings are of no value. Only by reflecting and illuminating the adamic form, man can claim its original state of creation in the image of God, in the reflection of God. And the reflection begin when we slowly start walking in the path of self-realization, which essentially is coming to understanding and realizing our innate divine nature."Whoso knoweth himself, knoweth his Lord" - saying of holy Prophet Muhammad, upon him be grace of God.When self realization comes to full circle, to its perfection; like the moon which grows over time from total darkness and non-existence to full moon, so is the state of fully realized human being. The awareness that meditation brings can also be a source of personal insight and self-understanding."Meditation frees persons from tenacious preoccupation with the past and future and allows them to fully experience life's precious moments", says Daeja Napier, founder of the Insight Meditation Center and lay dharma teacher of insight meditation in suburban Boston."Many men and women tend to live in a state of perpetual motion and expectation that prevents them from appreciating the gifts that each moment gives us," says Napier. "We live life in a state of insufficiency, waiting for a mother to love us, for a father to be kind to us, for the perfect job or home, for Prince Charming to come along or to become a perfect person. It's a mythology that keeps us from being whole."Meditation is a humble process that gently returns us to the now of our lives and allows us to wake up and re-evaluate the way that we live ou | | By: HealthyBodySoul | | |

The Torah says, within our world of illusions and darkness, only in God’s light do we see light (Psalm 36:9). The New Testament testifies, God is the light of the world, whoever follows will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life (John 8:12).Sit quietly. Close your eyes. Withdraw the senses. | | Raja Yoga and Science of Meditation | | 2007-10-11 18:28:14 | | . related to previous post: Prophet Muhammad's MeditationRaja Yoga ("royal yoga", "royal union", also known as Classical Yoga or simply Yoga) is one of the six orthodox (astika) schools of ancient Hindu philosophy. It is also sometimes referred to as Astanga (eight-limbed) yoga because there are eight aspects to the path to which one must attend. Raja yoga is concerned principally with the cultivation of the mind using meditation (dhyana) to further one's acquaintance with Reality and finally achieve liberation or Union. The eight levels of Raja Yoga, clearly spelled out, are as follows:1. Self-Restraint/ "Yama"Self restraint can be best defined as the codes of behavior that keep the aspirant at peace with the world he lives in, as well as with himself. By engaging in such "self-restraint," the aspirant is freed from the negative Karma that unwholesome behavior will generate.Typically, this level of practice in all of the esoteric traditions is to instill a sense of righteous behavior in the aspirant. What many fail to realize is that an absence of past indiscretions also frees the mind in the present. Thus, a mind free from these concerns is at peace and free to focus on meditation. There are five precepts for self-restraint: # Non-killing/ "Ahimsa" # Truthfulness/ "Satya" # Non-stealing/ "Asteya" # Sexual Continence/ "Brahmacharya" # Non-covetousness/ "Áparigraha"2. Observance/ "Niyama"Observances build on the concepts of self-restraint, putting those principles into action in daily life. Such natural extensions comprise this second level.# Purity of action # Contentment # Austerity # Study of self-development through classic treatises # Physical discipline # The honoring of a guru # Surrender of ego to the ultimate universal powerMuch or most of this is not possible for modern society without having heightened awareness and psychological growth that could only come through some sort of preparatory practice like Hatha Yoga.3. Physical Practice/ "Asana"Although "physical practice" is considered an absolute necessity to open up and develop the muscular and central nervous systems in all of the traditions, it is not enough. The majority of these exercises are stretching in character, but many "Asanas" build incredible strength. In the truest understanding of Raja Yoga, though, asana relates to the sitting meditation postures of padmasana/lotus pose, siddhasana/accomplished pose for men, and siddha yoni asana/accomplished pose for women. To be able to sit in these poses for hours at a time comfortably with perfect concentration necessitates a high level of accomplishment in the asana practice of Hatha Yoga.4. Breathing Exercise/ "Pranayama"Breathing exercises develop the connection between the cultivation of energy/"Prana" and the breath of the aspirant. Various techniques are used in Yoga, from alternating nostrils to forced exhalations to timedinhalations and exhalations. It is at this point where the production of "Prana"/ "Chi" really accelerates. An advanced aspirant learns breathing techniques, some which trace the sensation of the breath up and down certain limbs or energy lines. Energy develops, and the aspirant presupposes that, in the energy felt, the ultimate goal of his exploration into meditation has been realized- the ability to feel energy travel through limbs or spine.5. Sense Withdrawal/ "Prathyahara"Sense withdrawal is the pulling of the five senses back into the mind and the detaching from the various sense stimuli that the surrounding environment is generating. This level is considered to be the last level of the foundation necessary to be successful in the pursuit of a true a spiritual experience in meditation."The excited senses of even a wise man, though he may be strong, impetuously carry away his mind. The practice demands considerable patience and perseverance. It is a trying discipline of the senses." -Swami Sivananda, "Fourteen Lessons on Raja Yoga"6. Concentration/ "Dharana"Concentration is possible once sense withdrawal has begun. The refocusing of the senses on a single concentration point continues the inward turning of the mind. In the practice of Trataka, seeing an image with the eyes closed at the eyebrow center is one example of such a concentration technique. When one focuses the mind like this, it is akin to all of the light being generated by a light bulb condensing into one point- a light bulb can light a room, whereas a laser can cut through metal. You are training your mind to be like a laser.Raja Yoga has it that if one can inwardly focus on such a point in this way for 12 seconds without interruption, it is considered a "Dharana." This is much harder than it sounds. Most people's minds will interrupt such an endeavor almost immediately.7. Meditation/ "Dhyana"Meditation is the unbroken flow of the mind on a single point for an extended period. In practice, it can be measured by counting the numbers of breaths in one's focus on a concentration point, with or without a mantra.8. Superconsciousness / "Samadhi"Superconciousness is the state of "union" that word Yoga directly refers to. The union achieved is described as: "In Samadhi, the meditator loses his individuality and becomes identical with the Supreme Self. Just as the river joins the ocean, the individual soul joins the Supreme Soul, the ocean of absolute consciousness."-Swami Sivananda, "Fourteen Lesson on Raja Yoga"It is at this level that the aspirant reaches a peak in his/her evolution. Very few aspirantst reach this level of development. It is really not worth talking about, since words fail to convey the experience adequately to any one who has not experienced this directly.- - -[>] How Prophet's meditation and teaching and the philosophy of Raja Yoga coincide can be discussed further in details. But for the moment anybody who is familiar with the inner philosophy of Islam can easily connect with the principles and different levels of Raja Yoga as outlined above.[>] Just as a hint (only) about the physical aspect (Asanas), let me mention few sacred traditions (hadith) of the Prophet, about his actions which might shed some light about Yoga method of sitting position (the lotus position) which even Prophet used as narrated and recorded by his companions.A Hadith reported by Dhayyal ibn Ubayd mentions: "I went to the Prophet and I found him seated with his legs double crossed." - Related by Al-Bukhari in Al-Adab Al-Mufrad.Jabir bin Samurah reported: "After the Fajr (dawn) prayer the Prophet used to sit crossed legged in the same place in which he had prayed till the sun shone brightly." - Abu Dawud."I visited the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and I saw him sitting cross-legged." - from the narration of Dhayyal ibn Hanzala.:: References:. | | Prophet Muhammad's Meditation | | 2007-10-11 03:47:24 | | 1.It is known from historical accounts that before his prophetic illumination, the last Divine Messenger, Prophet Muhammad used to go to spiritual seclusions and extended retreats of meditation into Mouth Hira near Mecca. It is during one of such meditation retreats (in the holy month of Ramadan) in a defining moment of extra-cosmic enlightenment, Divine revelations started to reveal to him. The well-preserved collection of such Divine revelations later came to be known as Quran which literally means recitation because the Prophet following the inspirations, used to recite it to others including his companions. Now, interestingly nobody surely knows about the exact method of meditation that Prophet Muhammad used in his very personal experience in Mount Hira. The aspect of meditation and its teaching was most probably passed down to very inner circle of elect companions such as Ali, Abu Bakr, Fatima etc. who are known for their more evolved and higher spiritual station. The validation of the previous statement can be derived from the historical fact that holy companions like Ali, Abu Bakr were able to reach elevated levels of intense concentration and super-conscious stages during their formal prayers, which signifies that they were taught the science of concentration (which basically meditation is).Now Sufis or Muslim mystics preserved the tradition of meditation unlike the orthodox schools of Islam. Different Sufi groups have their different method of meditations transmitted from Prophet to his different elect companions. Prophet's meditation was and still is one of my most fascinating area of interest. Once in a conference I had the courage to ask Shaykh Hisham Muhammad Kabbani, the current spiritual master of distinguished Naqshbandi Order, whether the methods of Prophet's meditative experiences, specially in Hira mountain cave are recorded. The Shaykh replied, "nobody knows except Allah".2.Now as a learner if one approach (in a very human, rational way) about the urge to know the methods of Prophet Muhammad's meditation, it is very much plausible to think that since he was practicing this prior to his divine inspiration - he might have been introduced to the idea of meditation at some point of time earlier. It is known from the life of the holy Prophet that he used to travel to Syria in his young age. At that time Syria and that part of the world was the center of devout monks, mystics, kabbalists, sabians, gnostics - vibrating with fusion of different traditions. Now if one has to trace back the history of meditational techniques among different world faiths and analyze the time line (because the more ancient it is, the more sophisticated it might become over the time with accumulation of wisdom) - one is sure to go back to ancient land of Indus valley (hence the name Hindus) we now call India. Many scholars do acknowledge that fact that ancient Indian spiritual wisdom did spread beyond its boundaries. It was instrumental in influencing other religious and spiritual practices. Thus cross-cultural and cross-spiritual exchange was a very much possible reality prior and during the time of the Prophet. Hindu civilization having very rich tradition of meditation techniques was borrowed by others and assimilated into their own. Its not impossible that gnostics and ancient spiritual groups, particularly the Christian monks did know about such techniques from exchange of pilgrims among various lands. What my hypothesis is: it is very much possible that the meditation technique Prophet Muhammad used to practice might have been learned or influenced from gnostics during his trips to Syria and adjacent lands which again might have been inherited it from ancient Indian wisdom of meditation. The reason of saying that among many other reasons is because Indian meditation technique is one of the most sophisticated science of meditation known to mankind that still thrives today. If one look at the eastern meditation techniques, specially that of ancient science of Yoga from India, one will easily agree with that.Just as Islam is a transmission and continuation of Divine Inspiration from Judeo-Christian tradition, so is possible the cross-spiritual transmission of eastern ideas and techniques. Specially when it comes to higher level of consciousness and the art of self realization through meditation, it does hints to collective human experience across race and space. The idea of Prophet Muhammad's meditation always fascinates me and tracing its root in the broader context of collective human experience, (to my personal observation) one has to go back to Indian or Yogic wisdom of meditation because it is one of the most original, most ancient (we are talking about thousands of years before the birth of Christ even) and most importantly one of the most refined techniques of meditation that is known to humanity.[> NEXT POST ] i was reading about Raja Yoga (the Royal Path of Union, a specialized science of meditation from ancient India) and God willing in the next post i would like to post specifically on it (Raja Yoga) to demonstrate the proximity at the level of Haqiqa or Inner Reality between Islamic Philosophy and what Raja Yoga is about.. As-Salatu was Salamu alayka ya Sayyidi ya Rasul Allah. May God's infinite blessings be with the master and teacher of humanity, Prophet Muhammad upon whom the pinnacle of Divine Revelation was graced.(c) Sadiq M. | | Tamarkoz | sufi meditation beyond concentration | | 2007-10-03 08:17:38 | | Last weekend i had the blessed opportunity to participate in the Tamarkoz meditation class organized by UCLA (university of california, los angeles) MTO sufi association. The class was instructed by experienced Tamarkoz practitioner and instructors. The experience was really energyzing and rejuvenating. Following the meditations there was zikr session and breaking of fast as well. As i observed it, Tamarkoz feels like it has incorporated fusion elements from ancient yoga of indian tradition and chinese tai-chi such as harmonious body movement and postures. :: What is TamarkozTamarkoz is a Persian term that means concentration, referring to the concentration of abilities. Consequently, the term concentration is synonymous with close attention, convergence, gathering, condensing, and consolidation. Moreover, Tamarkoz is the 1,400 year-old Sufi practice of concentration and meditation, allowing the seeker to connect with the reality within.Tamarkoz facilitates the journey of self knowledge, as it enables the individual to connect to one's inner source of energy by accessing the energy centers of the body. It guides the student through harmony and submission in order to achieve unity.Unlike simple concentration methods taught in classes bearing the title “meditation,” Tamarkoz goes beyond concentration, which is limited to the mind, and moves to the heart - enabling deeper meditation. The practice is built on a series of 5 different exercise groups which use posture, breathing, movement, relaxation, visualization, and energy work. The exercises include: Mental RelaxationMovazeneh – Energizing Physical Movements, Breathing Exercises – using rhythm, duration and depth, Deep Relaxation and Visualization – Achieving Total Relaxation Tamarkoz - Exploring the function of the body's energy centers:: Electromagnetic Centers of Energy The human body has a built-in electromagnetic system consisting of 13 main centers. The inherent functions of these centers are vital to the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being of the human being. The most important of these centers resides in the heart. According to the teachings of Professor Sadegh Angha, the 41st master of the MTO Shahmaghsoudi School of Islamic Sufism, the Source of Life in the heart is the primary energy source of the body."In Tamarkoz, the magnetic centers are in a progressive process of activating, balancing, and unifying our energy fields. Through awareness of these centers we are guided toward fulfilling our inherent potentials. With Tamarkoz, the energies are aligned, balanced, and unified so that the mind, heart, and magnetic fields all work together." - From Hidden Angles of Life By Professor Sadegh Angha Pir Oveyssi. For Techniques, Benefits and Relazation exercises read more here:: Refences:. Jon Kabat-Zinn ISBN 0-7868-8070-8 Amazon link My first meditation lessons: In 1983, after seven years of sobriety, I realized that I needed to learn how to be a calmer person. During a three year period, I started going in and out of clinical depression. Of course, being an overachiever, I kept telling myself to snap out of it. The idea that I had a mental illness never occurred to me. I now believe depression to be an emotional disease that affects people mentally. I was sponsoring 8 people in AA and going to daily meetings. However, I was gradually losing the ability to support my daughter, Lisa, and me. I had always wanted to live in Florida. So after Cuba, Lisa and I moved here. We had no family or friends for a support system. I started meditation in 1983 by keeping a steno pad and using the Bible and a concordance. I chose different topics from the concordance to study. I did this early in the morning so I started each day with positive thoughts. I continued to do this for a few years. One day, at the library, which has always been my main source of enjoyment, I checked out some books on meditation. Having been reared a Presbyterian, the meditation was new for me. I am sure that there are some Presbyterians who meditate, but I didn’t know any. Luckily, during this period, Lisa and I attended both the Winter Park Presbyterian Church and on Wednesday nights, we went to Calvary Assembly. On Wednesday, the adults went to the large sanctuary and the children had a separate service. One evening, after the Calvary Assembly service, Lisa said that something wonderful had happened to her. She said that she felt that a large weight was lifted from her. She was in sixth grade so I almost slipped to my knees in the parking lot in gratitude. What a wonderful gift for her and for me. I got to the knees part as soon as I got home. I don’t know any greater gift a child can give to parents than accepting the God of his/her understanding. I know that being under God’s guidance our main job as a parent has been fulfilled. | | By: Changemaker: Healing Mind, Body and Soul

Salat is the formal, uniform way of prayer for whole of humanity taught by God through the last messenger, Muhammad, the praised one.Salât is a meditation of the highest order but even most Muslims have forgotten it. They read Namâz (the persian word for Salat) or recite Namâz or even offer Namâz but they do not meditate in it though it is a pre-requisite. A Salât does not even start without the state of meditation. The Prophet, peace be upon him, instructed a person in Salât to meditate upon the presence of God who is watching the devotee. A state of trance is reached when he really meditates upon it.Then comes the voice of The Word of God from the lips of the Imam (person who leads the prayer in a gathering). If he really started Salât with a state of meditation, the voice of the Imam seems to be coming from a spiritual source.
