| Melanoma And Nonmelanoma Skin Cancer, Squamous Cell, Basal Cell Carcinoma | | 2008-08-14 20:36:00 | | Skin cancer is generally separated into two main categories, melanoma and nonmelanoma. Melanoma is the most severe form of skin cancer. The nonmelanoma group encompasses all other skin cancers. The two most common forms of nonmelanoma skin cancer, squamous cell and basal cell carcinoma, are named for the squamous or basal cells which become cancerous. The top layer of skin, the epidermis, is made up of basal and squamous cells. The surface of the skin is made of round, flat squamous cells, and below these are the basal cells. Hair follicles and sweat glands are in the dermis below the epidermis.Treatment of basal or squamous cell carcinoma is usually very successful with no side effects if caught early enough. Since symptoms first appear on the skin, detection of skin cancer in its earliest stage of development is possible if you recognize it. These common cancers can be surgically removed if they have not advanced, making aggressive therapy unnecessary. The danger is in not recognizing | | By: How to Detect Cancer | | |
| | The Melanoma "Cure" - Finally Goes Public? | | 2008-06-18 17:46:59 | | ARE THERE TWO MELANOMA CURES?I've known about one "cure" for a year and a half, and figured they would be forced to "out" the "cure" if John McCain were running for POTUS. I know one of the people in the study. From what I remember he was a late Stage 4, with maybe 3 months to live. That was at least 7 years ago. There were something like a dozen people in his test group - all late Stage 4. Every single one of them is alive today. I don't know if this is the same thing. If ... | | By: The Pink Flamingo | | |
| | My Melanoma Saga | | 2008-05-13 20:41:35 | | For any of you that read my blog on a regular basis you already know that I've been diagnosed with Melanoma (skin cancer) twice. The first time was really scary as I had Stage III Melanoma, several surgeries and a year of chemo treatment. Well....today I found out I have Melanoma again. Last time was just a very shallow lesion that didn't require any special surgery. This time it's a little worse and it sounds like I'll be having at least one surgery maybe two. The good news is from what they are telling me this isn't as serious as the first time I had it so hopefully the treatments won't be too bad.I share this with my readers for a couple of reasons. First and foremost I think that if I can help just one person by making them aware of the dangers involved with skin cancer then it's worth sharing my personal experiences. Two it helps me deal with the emotional battle that cancer plays on someone. Wish me luck....or better yet say a prayer for me and my family. | | By: Helpful Advice for Home Construction Improvement | | |

| What You Can Do To Reduce The Risk Of Melanoma | | 2008-04-23 02:38:00 | | Melanoma is the deadliest of all skin cancers, perhaps more so for people of darker skinned races simply because the disease is harder to detect. The disease starts from mutated cells in your skin, generally collectively within a large mole. The disease can be very frightening for anyone who is infected, however with certain preventative measures you should never have to worry about developing the disease yourself. There are three basic things to remember so that you do not put yourself at risk for melanoma: keep yourself out of the sun, examine your skin closely every month for outbreaks, and go in for a specialist check up every year. Essentially, if you do all these things you should be safe when it comes to skin cancer. It is important, however, that you do perform regular skin checks to be certain that all is well with the health of your skin.Staying out of the sun is the most important thing you can do when trying to keep yourself safe from skin cancer and melanoma. | | Straight Talk About Melanoma | | 2008-03-10 10:01:48 | | MUCH ADO ABOUT MCCAIN’S MELANOMAI can say this because I’ve been there and done that. So has John McCain. But the press thinks it is this huge deal. It is and it isn’t. Michael Cooper, author of this hit piece, is obviously not really all that aware of melanoma. He should have contacted a melanoma survivor. We could have given him all the information he needs to know.“…The melanoma removed in 2000 was Stage IIa on a standard classification that makes Stage IV the most serious. For Stage IIa melanoma, the survival rate 10 years after diagnosis ... | | By: The Pink Flamingo | | |

| Skin cancer - Melanoma. symptoms, causes, diagnosis, treatment | | 2008-02-20 08:56:00 | | Melanoma is the most serious and deadly type of skin cancer. Melanoma develops in the cells that produce melanin — the pigment that gives your skin its color. Melanoma can also form in the eyes and, rarely, in internal organs, such as the intestines.
Although melanomas make up the smallest percentage of all skin cancers, they [...] | | By: Health blog | | |
| | Melanoma - Update | | 2007-12-21 19:04:00 | | Today I got the best Christmas gift I could ever get, my prayers were answered when the doctor let me know that the surgery was a success and all of the cancer has been removed. The diagnosis was correct and I shouldn't need anymore treatment. This week I've been recovering from my wide excision that was done Tuesday. I've got a bunch of stitches and each day it seems to be getting a little better. Thanks for everyone for your prayers, thoughts and well wishes.Filed in: melanoma | | By: Helpful Advice for Home Construction Improvement | | |
| | Melanoma | Skin Cancer | Use Sun Screen While Working Ourdoors | | 2007-11-29 23:00:00 | | I think in the past I've mentioned that I was diagnosed with Melanoma about 8 years ago. At the time I was diagnosed with stage III Melanoma. The disease had spread to my lymph nodes and I underwent 2 surgeries and a year of chemo-therapy.Unfortunately today I found out that I have Melanoma again. The good news is it's only stage I this time. The doctors are hopeful that the only treatment I'll need this time is one surgery to remove additional skin tissue that was not removed last week when the affected area was surgically removed. The reason I bring this up is to remind everyone about using sun screen and avoiding the dangers of damage from the sun.I know that contractors and home improvement DIYers all spend time in the sun and using sun screen is the number one defense against this disease. Each year 60,000 cases of Melanoma are diagnosed in this country and over 8,000 people die from it each year. | | Mother Jailed, Put On Trial for Curing Her Son of Melanoma | | 2007-11-08 22:08:23 | | I was reading this after one of the ladies posted about this today on our forum. Have you guys in the US, heard about this?Mother Jailed, Put On Trial for Curing Her Son of MelanomaVery freaky... what do you think?*update*I just wanted to say I found an article with a different perspective here. I did mention it in the comments but the link didn't work so thought it best to add here.I also found a few records of traffic violations dating from 2004 for a Laurie Jessop born in 1961 and a Chad Jessop born in 1990 so there does appear to be a 17 year old Chad Jessop in Orange County. I also found records of a family court battle between a Laurie Jessop and a Markus Jessop whom have a child dating back from 2003 which seems to have been revived this past August. So it may be true, or at least these identities exist, maybe someone should try to contact them to see if it actually happened? | | By: Pinch of... | | |
| | Tanning Beds Causes Melanoma In Teens | | 2007-05-28 13:31:27 | |
Tanning Beds are being blamed for the rising cases of melanoma in teens and young adults. Dr. Marie-France Demierre of the Skin Oncology Program at Boston Medical Center, also believes this and will testify for the bill that proposes to make it illegal to use tanning beds by anyone younger than 16.
The bill has been filed by Sen. James E. Timilty (D-Walpole) who says: “it’s a medical fact that skin damage is not only cumulative, but the majority of damage occurs before you turn 18,”.
