| | | Metal Gear Solid 4: Explosive debut in Japan | | 2008-06-17 06:02:00 | | MGS4 Sells 476k in Japan Inserito originariamente da Abriael Here i am, coming out of my MGS4 + Age of Conan full immersion to give you some fresh news. Some portals published pictures of stunningly short lines in Tokyo and Osaka for the launch of Metal Gear solid 4, hinting at the fact that it could have flopped in Japan. Well, looks like their predictions were VERY wrong.According to the first Enterbrain data published by Famitsu.com, Kojima's absolute masterpiece sold 476,334 copies in it's first week, and moved around 77,000 PS3 SKUs, and this only in Japan! That's quite an exploside debut, and even the sales surge for the PS3, even if probably temporary, is absolutelhy noticeable (the PS3 sells around 10,000 copies a week in Japan), and it's probably bound to have an aftershock in the following weeks. Now we can only wait for the official worldwide sales. This news definately please me, given the fact that MGS4 is an absolute masterpiece. Probably the best game ever publish | | By: Classy Gamer | | |

| | Metal Gear Solid 4 strikes home. And it rocks the world | | 2008-06-11 15:45:00 | | Metal Gear Solid 4 Inserito originariamente da Abriael After a trip to Rome (that's why i didn't write in the last week), I finally managed to put my paws on my copy of Metal Gear Solid 4, for sure not as early as many reviewers from the official press, but in the end I'm still satisfied. Anyway, I managed to play the game trough the first two chapters so far, and the judgmeent is very simple: Metal Gear Solid 4 is the best game i every played in my life. Period. The gameplay, is extremely thrilling, never boring, actually moving from the steady (but extremely fun) crawl trough the maps of the older titles of the saga, to an ever-changing (and even more fun) sequence of beautifully staged situations that perfectly represent the concept of "waves" that Kojima himself described. The graphics are simply astonishing. The amount of detail that they managed to put in is simply astonishing, even counting the limited (but extremely realistic and scenic) color palette that they decided | | By: Classy Gamer | | |
| | Metal Gear Solid 4: 90 minute cuscenes or not? | | 2008-05-24 08:03:00 | | Metal Gear Solid 4 Inserito originariamente da Abriael Metal Gear Solid 4 is out and the antifanboys are already at it. Yesterday CVG announced that the game has some cutscenes that approach the 90 minutes mark, then hell broke loose. All kind of anti-MGS4 (and Anti-Sony of course, because teh fact that MGS4 is excusive to the playstation 3 is what brings it the most unwarranted criticism from Microsoft fanboys) fanboys begun throwing in a lot of silly remarks on how the game had (according to them) "more cutscenes than gameplay" and other shockingly stupid posts. No doubt we'll see a nicely cut portion of the press use the same excuse to lower the score for the game in final reviews, in fond memory of the PS3 mudslinging campaign we saw last year. After all, MGS4 is a Japanese game, you can be sure as hell that the press at large will find use excuse to give it a lower score as compared to western masterpieces like Grand Theft Auto 4. Anyway. today GamePro announced that the | | By: Classy Gamer | | |
| | Metal Gear Solid 4 Theatrical Trailer (!) | | 2008-05-14 11:02:08 | | AdblockMGS4 videos have been increasing in frequency since April 1. But before you think this is just another video (either way you should gleefully lap it up like the dogs you are since it's MGS4), know that this very trailer will be shown in THEATERS (yes, the ones that play movies), and that they actually hired that guy with the deep voice who does movie previews. For a game preview. Which comes out in some 30 days from now. IT'S SO AWESOME. WATCH IT NOW NOW NOW.

| | Product placement in games: Metal Gear Solid 4 | | 2008-05-13 04:22:00 | | Snake as a commercial star Inserito originariamente da Abriael The Metal Gear Solid press event in Roppongi Hills revealed something that some already knew or at least guessed, and that is bound to cause quite an uproar on the net:Yes, there's product placement in Metal Gear Solid 4. What is product placement? It's a viral marketing technique derived from movies, and involves placing real life commercial products (but theorically it can include services, or even people) into games so that their image is relayed to the players in the form of a possibly non-intrusive commercial message.A clear example of that are the commercial billboards on the sides of the tracks in racing games. In Metal Gear Solid 4 (at least considering what we know at the moment) you'll see a cellphone from Sony Ericsson and an energy drink called Regain. I can already see raging antifans and competing consoles' fanboys stirring up a lot of trouble about this, while trying to find excuses to criticize the ga | | By: Classy Gamer | | |

| | Metal Gear Online beta opens. And it's great. | | 2008-04-25 14:48:00 | | Metal Gear Online Inserito originariamente da Abriael Today Konami finally opened the gates to the premiere beta for Metal Gear Online, and guess what? The game is great. Yeah. Great. With a capital G.I was actually sure it to be good, but THIS good? It's really well polished for being a beta, the gameplay is engaging and fun, and it has quite a lot of depth (more than the usual FPS online) expecially if one strives to learn all the functions and variate his gaming style. The control scheme may be a bit daunting at first (expecially if you expect it to be the same as the other MGS games), but as soon as you get used to it, you'll notice that it's very intuitive and flexible. The maps themselves are quite well designed and graphically stunning. Expecially the Grozny Grad one will have Metal Gear Solid 3 fans shed a tear, while they see the former impregnable soviet fortress shine in high resolution. Just lovely. In addition to that, and quite surprisingly I might add, there's real | | By: Classy Gamer | | |
| | Metal Gear Online Beta Delayed | | 2008-04-22 09:35:03 | | After a weekend full of server load issues and unhappy gamers, the Metal Gear Online beta has been delayed. Originally scheduled to be available this morning, the beta test of Konami's upcoming online version of its stealth action series has been bumped back to a tentative April 25 start date, with a warning that Konami may fail to fix the issues and be forced to move it back even further. On April 17, would-be players who had acquired access to the beta from Konami found that they were unable to complete one or more steps in the process. Some players couldn't register a "Konami ID" with the company, required to play the game. Some were given faulty promotional codes that wouldn't let them download the software. And most found that a required patch simply couldn't be downloaded, apparently because of extreme server load issues. In the face of this massive, multi-pronged failure, Konami said on the official MGO website today that it would push the start date of | | By: Online Games | | |
| | Metal Gear Solid Online beta starts: lenghty download detected! | | 2008-04-20 11:47:00 | | Metal Gear Solid Online Download... Inserito originariamente da Abriael The Metal Gear Solid Online premiere beta starts tonight, at midnight (european time) and i'm definately excited. I bet many of you are excited as much as I am, at least the ones that got a beta code (in the US) or managed to sign up for a Konami ID despite the extra busy website (in Europe). You better be careful though, because Konami already updated the game, tthere's a further download to do (in addition to the PSN one) and it's a quite big one. You can access it directly from the game, but don't even try with the HTML download option. Traffic is so high that it's nearly impossible. Luckily they decided to add a Peer to Peer Torrent download, which works at a decent speed (around 25k/sec for me). After a couple hours I'm at 17%, so if you still didn't start downloading, you better do it now if you want to be ready for midnight.Don't tell me I didn't warn you :DOn a side note, the trailer of the game inc | | By: Classy Gamer | | |
| | Metal Gear Solid 4 Headset | | 2008-04-13 20:01:59 | | While Nintendo is busy creating increasingly childish Wii accessories everyday, we can only fall to our knees and thank God for even offering us the hope that we might be able to get our undeserving paws on this cool Metal Gear Solid 4 headset sometime in the near future. The headset has been officially licensed and is expected to be available on June 20 this year, the same day as the much-awaited game releases. Word is that this headset is based on the wireless 360 headset on terms of design and functionality and will cost something like $60. The headset promises to become a much-coveted piece of gaming memorabilia with its cool color scheme and aesthetics that go with the look of the game as seen via media releases so far.Source: Kotaku

You can read the report here.Did they like it? Oh yeah they did. Here's just a quick quote:"Playing a nearly complete build of Metal Gear Solid 4 running on the PlayStation 3 was a revelatory experience. The graphics looked sensational, the sound effects and music sounded magnificently epic, and the interface felt sleek and simple. In short, it's becoming increasingly clear that Metal Gear Solid 4 will be the rare game to live up to its own massive hype. "Live up to it's hype? That's indeed something you rarely hear in the gaming industry.Everything you can find in the GamePro report sounds awesome, expecially the weapon customization system, that seems extremely solid. | | Metal Gear Solid 5 will not be made by Hideo Kojima | | 2008-04-06 16:59:13 | | Konami’s upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for the PlayStation 3 (due June 12) is the latest stealth game in a series that has been going strong for the last 20 years. In an interview with Hideo Kojima, creator of the series, he was asked if this was the last game in the series and even if he may not be making another one himself, he said he’d produce more spin-off PSP handheld games and hinted that a Metal Gear Solid 5 sequel might be a possibility without him. Question: Obviously, the first question that’s on everyone’s mind is: Why exactly did you feel this was the right time to end the Metal Gear Solid series? Hideo Kojima answers: I was supposed to end this in MGS2, you know, originally (laughs). And then I created MGS3, and I said, ‘Okay, this is the final one. It’s over.’ But people said, ‘No… there’s still not enough answers (in that game)!’ As a game design, the story was almost complete in MGS1, 2 and 3, or so I initially thought.
| | Metal Gear gotta catch em all?! | | 2008-04-02 11:11:00 | | MGS Portable Ops Inserito originariamente da Abriael In preparation for Metal Gear Solid 4, I'm currently playing Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops on my PSP. It's an awesome game, with a beautiful and complex story no doubt about it, but the extremely nice thing is that it truly embodies what a portable game should be: even if the european version lost the awesome GPS function present in the japanese one, it still retain the Wi-Fi recruitment system. For the ones that aren't familiar with it, when the player gets in range of a Wi-Fi hotspot, the game will detect it, and will allow to use it to recruit a new soldier for the squad. This means that if a player wants some new soldiers for his squad, he'll just have to explore his real physical city for Wi-Fi hotspots, finding new soldiers in the game basically at every corner.I did it quite a bit today, while i was going for a few errands, and have to say it added quite a lot of fun to my stroll. | | Metal Gear Solid 4 confirmed for June 12th worldwide - SendMeRSS | | 2008-02-29 01:13:07 | | Metal Gear Solid 4 confirmed for June 12th worldwideFiled under: News Konami has issued a press release today which confirms the rumored report of Metal Gear Solid 4's June 12th release date. The latest issue of Japanese magazine Dengeki PlayStation also reports that June 12th will be the Japanese release date for the game. Hideo Kojima made a statement last year at Leipzig during which he said that he firmly intended on making Metal Gear Solid 4 a simultaneous worldwide release and that it is regrettable that Europe has to so often wait longer to receive games. Let's hope his plan comes to fruition and we can all, throughout the world, enjoy the game when June 12th rolls around. The press release also confirms that Metal Gear Online will come bundled with MGS4 in the form of a "Starter Pack", but it's still unclear how this "Starter Pack" will differ from the full release.
