| | | Metta's First Bath | | 2008-07-18 21:32:21 | | To celebrate your arrival just one week ago, we decide to plunge you into a pool of warm water. It’s your first bath …
Here, Mum swaddles you. Your slippery skin dries squeaky clean. Tiring sobs eventually vanish. And all is well again.... | | By: Metta Says Ums - Her Story Begins Here

| | | And Here's Metta . . . | | 2008-07-12 21:32:38 | | Here is the beautiful little girl we’ve all been waiting for. She was born 5 lbs. 8 oz. at 3:34 a.m. today. She’s healthy …
And Lise did it without any painkillers. She’s an amazing mum. I’m a weepy dad. And we’re happy to have Metta Li join us.... | | By: Metta Says Ums - Her Story Begins Here
| | Music for Metta | | 2008-06-29 15:40:07 | | I purchased my plane ticket to arrive in time for your arrival. It’s dated for the 5th of July. I hope I’ll have plenty of time to be close by before you’re here. Maybe so. And maybe not.
Right now, as I daydream on becoming a grandmother, I listen to lullabyes on iTunes. The lyrics have changed in the last thirty years, and these simple tunes are now sung by bands such as U2 and BNL. I download the ones I remember, tunes such as “Lullaby and Goodnight” and “Rock-a-bye Baby” bring back a flood of child-rearing memories in a creaky rocking chair.
Becoming a grandmother is an experience I doubted I’d have. And now, you’re almost here. You bring a profound sense of hope with you, along with that lovely name of loving kindness. My voice is not as smooth or in tune as the trained vocal chords of the iTunes Store. I’ll practice in the shower, and maybe then you won’t bat my face as I sing to you over the internet via iChat.... | | By: Metta Says Ums - Her Story Begins Here
| | Metta the Supermodel & Dr. Google, Humane Clinician | | 2008-06-18 22:36:19 | | “I can’t give out that information,” says ultrasound technician Sally Beatch as she avoids my lump-throat question about failure to thrive. Her libel-conscious tongue dismisses any concerns.
Her fear of being sued becomes our fear of losing you.
Today’s ultrasound suggests you’re only 5.5 lbs., in the 10th percentile of normal weight. There may be reduced amniotic fluid. Is this normal for your mum’s age? Should this cause alarm?
You bet your cloth diapered butt-to-be it can. Only Google had the guts to ease our minds. Search results put you on the low end of “OK”. You’re a petite pumpkin for 37 weeks. And you’re fine.
Mataji warns, “Normal is a setting on the washing machine.”
So let’s ignore the measuring stick’s calculations. You’re kicking. We’re happy. Nothing serves us better than these two things. Keep on wiggling. And we’ll keep the mango popsicles coming.... | | By: Metta Says Ums - Her Story Begins Here
| | Metta Drops & Mum Eats | | 2008-06-16 19:06:48 | | This past weekend — after visiting with Sunava the Doula — you spun upside down, kicked and dove headfirst into the pelvis.
While Mum runs to the loo more frequently than before, lightening allows her to breathe and ingest two banana muffins.... | | By: Metta Says Ums - Her Story Begins Here
| | One Month to Metta | | 2008-06-12 18:39:36 | | This is my first attempt to post a blog entry. I’m so excited to be able to write to you. So thrilled, in fact, that I couldn’t wait for your dad to post it …
Only a month to your due date. Such a short time until we see you for the first time. You have miraculously developed into a tiny human being. Amazing! Now, nestled in the dark, liquid world of your origin, you’re safe, secure and well fed with no need of anything else except maybe a little extra room.
Speaking of room, I have yours picked out here in NC. It’s already stocked with toys, a pretty pink quilt and a window box filled with flowers. All yours, Metta. Anytime you need it. Anytime you’re here. I wish were down the street, in the next state or even in the US. But there you are. It’s not that far.
I feel the grandmotherly urge to book an airline ticket right now. End of June? July? Are you coming early? I’m so honored to be invited to your birthday.... | | By: Metta Says Ums - Her Story Begins Here
| | Metta Charity Walk cum Family Carnival 2008 | | 2008-06-09 06:58:31 | | 8 June 2008At 8am, my Aunt, Mother and I reported to the Volunteers registration booth at Metta School [32 Simei Street 1]. The Volunteer Executive, Eilynn, handed us our Tshirt and directed us to our booth. The Metta Charity Walk cum Family Carnival is an annual event organised to raise funds for the Metta Welfare Association. The Carnival sees booths set up by various business owners and volunteers who donates all proceeds generated to charity. I had attended and volunteered for the previous year. This year, I brought along my family and had fun doing our part for charity.Since we were early, we browsed the Happy Arts Deli cafe for breakfast. The cafe features vegetarian delicacies. When the boxes arrived for our booth, we began unpacking the Lavender products from the Gift Cottage. I watched along as Mother and Aunt discussed over what was the best layout for the booth. A great opportunity for the two adults to immerse themselves with hands-on training for entrepreneurship. The Guest-... | | By: My Encounters, My Life | | |
| | The Metta Belly Tour | | 2008-04-12 09:20:38 | | In a week, we’ll hop a plane to visit dear friends and maybe see your mum’s family, too. You’ll hear voices of your Aunties and Uncles. You’ll hear the ocean that lulled us back to the West coast three years ago. You’ll listen to a magical city — Vancouver.
Shortly after, we’ll journey 3,100 miles to your dad’s old stomping grounds in North Carolina. There, his parents will welcome us to their home. You’ll hear mighty Southern accents, soulful folks who love you. You’ll hear another ocean with big, noisy waves.
We hope you hear all the coast-to-coast folks close to us, as they get closer to stoop and talk to you, whispering sweet-nothings to your tireless wiggles. Listen carefully, and you’ll hear the rhythms of their own hearts, beating with yours to welcome you home.... | | By: Metta Says Ums - Her Story Begins Here
| | Metta Kicks OM | | 2008-04-09 18:59:47 | | Well my little pumpkin, we enter the 27th week of our journey together. According to Babyfit.com, you weigh 2 pounds and measure 15 inches from tip to toe. I can envision you sucking your thumb, and apparently you can even cry.
Your dad and I have fun watching my stomach move as you shift from one side to the other. Earlier this evening you were too quiet, so he decided to OM. Right on cue, you kicked at this strange new sound. I hope you’re content in there.... | | By: Metta Says Ums - Her Story Begins Here
| | A Betta for Metta | | 2008-04-02 19:08:05 | | To test the parenting waters, we’re getting a pet: a brightly coloured Betta, Siamese Fighting Fish.
I’ve always had cats, but with allergies on both sides of the family, we figure that wouldn’t be a good choice.
Neither your Dad nor I are really dog folks. We both had lots of them while growing up, but they’re so very needy.
No, you won’t be needy. You’re Metta. ;)
We won’t venture into the reptile department. I’ll let your Uncles Todd and Tim tell you about turtle-spawn salmonella.
So we’ll get a fish. It won’t have to be de-clawed or walked. And if it pees, well, it’s already in a tank of water.
If we feed this little fish every day, we know we’ll do just fine with you, barely 99 feedings from now.... | | By: Metta Says Ums - Her Story Begins Here
