| 23 Skidoo And A Fenway Series Sweep Over Minnesota...Red Sox 18 Twins 5 | | 2008-07-10 04:39:00 | | The Red Sox offense exploded Wednesday afternoon at Fenway Park, Boston, Massachusetts, the hub of the universe. With the score relatively close at 7-5 Boston, the Red Sox overwhelmed the visiting team in the seventh and eighth innings, adding eleven runs to their already impressive total. The pivotal play was a Jason Varitek shallow fly ball to center with runners at second and third. The umpire ruled that Denard Span caught the ball, and when the ump signaled "catch," Denard threw to the infield in a triple play try, an apparently successful one. And that triple play would have stood, with Sean Casey and Mike Lowell running, but Tito Francona came out and asked for the entire officiating crew to consult with each other. As the numerous replays clearly showed, the ball was trapped--it wasn't even close. Twins manager Ron Gardenhire blew a fuse and most of the circut boards at Fenway when he charged out onto the field. He was promptly ejected and later, when he saw the replays, I'm sur | | By: Peter's Red Sox Forever | | |

| Minnesota Bans Mercury in Cosmetics | | 2008-05-12 00:45:00 | | (NaturalNews) Minnesota is the first in the nation to ban intentionally-added mercury in cosmetic products. Minnesota will now have a more stringent standard than the federal government. The federal government currently allows a small amount of mercury as a preservative in eye makeup. The implications of this new law have already been felt on a national level, however. Many leading cosmetics companies are now being forced to adapt their formulations in order to comply with Minnesota's requirements. Minnesota lawmakers say they passed the bill with hopes that other states will also do so, thereby forcing the federal government to ban it nationwide.Retailers who knowingly sell cosmetics containing mercury could face fines of up to $700. Penalties could also reach $10,000 for manufacturers who do not disclose mercury on product labels. The cosmetics provision is part of a bigger ban that is targeting better-known sources of mercury. | Jared Allen to the Minnesota Vikings: What that means for us. | | 2008-04-23 00:10:18 | |
It only cost 31 million in guaranteed money, a first round draft pick, and two third round draft picks, but the Minnesota Vikings have traded for Kansas City Defensive End Jared Allen. Specifically it was a 6-year, 74 million dollar deal, and the 17th, 73rd and 82nd picks. Expensive, yes, but the Vikings get a 15 sack a year guy with thirty million reasons to play his tail off. Even when the Chiefs were horrible last season, Jared Allen was a bright spot.
There were a few of us in Jaguars land (myself included) who thought that trading for Allen would be a good idea. With the size of the deal, I'm pretty glad we didn't make him the highest paid player on the team. Though not because he's a risk, I believe it when his Chiefs teammates say he's quit drinking:

Time passed slowly and no cars went by. It was raining so hard he could hardly see his hand in front of his face. Suddenly he saw a car moving slowly, approaching and appearing ghostlike in the rain. It slowly and silently crept toward him and stopped.Wanting a ride real bad the guy jumped in the car and closed the door; only then did he realize that there was nobody behind the wheel, and no sound of an engine to be heard over the rain.Again the car crept slowly forward and the guy was terrified, too scared to think of jumping out and running. The guy saw that the car was approaching a sharp curve and, still too scared to jump out, he started to pray and began begging for his life; he was sure the ghost | | By: Jokes and Forwards | | |

| Michigan vs. Minnesota | | 2007-10-28 11:51:34 | | Blegh...I'm not quite sure what else I really have to say about yesterday's Michigan game. The 34-10 score does not indicate how awfully they played awfully in the first half, but after the beginning of the season, I'm not going to complain. A win is a win.Minnesota carved up the Michigan defense in the first half with that halfback hand-off from the shotgun, the back running between the center and guard. I think it's a zone read of some kind, but correct me if I'm wrong. They ran it all day long.Things got better in the second as the weather got colder. Mallett threw some nice long passes, but also made a couple really awful ones, a particularly bad screen pass to his receiver's feet comes to mind. Both Manningham and Arrington came up with some amazing circus catches that make me wish I had remembered to record the game.Lastly, both Minor and Brown were sick. I'm not sure how much of it was a product of the atrocious Minnesota defense, but Minor rushed the ball 21 times | | By: Blast Shields Down | | |

| With Too Many QB’s in Philly; Holcomb May Look to Minnesota | | 2007-07-05 14:59:40 | | No question with the drafting of Kevin Kolb in the first round of this years draft that the Philadelphia Eagles have a logjam at the QB spot. One player that knows his time in Philly may be drawing near is QB Kelly Holcomb. The veteran QB looks like the odd man out when it comes to even getting a shot at playing this season, and already he is laying the groundwork to play elsewhere. One place he may look to land is in Minnesota, where the team is going to give youngster Tarvaris Jackson the first crack at the QB spot.
Last season Jackson, a first-round draft choice, was thrown into the action late into the season, and had his ups and downs. He was 47-for-81 passing for 475 yards, two TD’s and four picks. While the Vikings are high on him, they have to be careful not to bank the entire 2007 on Jackson. “I just believe he is going to incrementally grow,” coach Brad Childress said of Jackson. “We’ve watched it here in the offseason program. | Senate Watch: Minnesota | | 2007-05-30 06:55:00 | | The challenges for Norm Coleman's re-election effort are similar to those facing Susan Collins in Maine. Coleman is a Republican in a Democratic state with a strong liberal history--Minnesota has voted Democratic in every presidential election since 1976 (the longest active blue streak). He is also saddled with an unpopular outgoing president and the situation in Iraq, both of which Coleman has attempted to distance himself from. Minnesota DFLers (the state's version of the Democratic Party) will also make a strong push to reclaim the seat because it was once held by liberal icon Paul Wellstone.Coleman was elected the mayor of St. Paul as a Democrat, but switched to Republican Party in 1996. | Minnesota wild about bringing back Backstrom | | 2007-05-08 19:34:18 | | Michael Russo of the Minnesota Star Tribune reports that the Minnesota Wild are renewing their efforts of bringing back pending unrestricted free agent goalie Niklas Backstrom.

However, such a move would “put the Wild close to the expected $47.5 million salary cap without even filling out the rest of its roster.”
“As far as the cap goes, it’s not a worry right now because we’ve got a quarter of the team together,” Lynn said. “If we were a team in need of three top-six forwards and two top defensemen, we’d be more nervous.
