London police evaluate diesel Mitsubishi Lancer
    2008-03-19 20:34:44
Here in the good ol' U.S. of A., police cars are usually the largest vehicles available, with full frames and big V8 engines. It seems that something smaller and more economical will do for London's Metropolitan Police. According to their tests, the newest Lancer with the 2.0 liter DI-D diesel engine would perform admirably for police duty, earning a "Class 1 Pass for performance, brake pad wear, handling and localised component durability," according to the report. While we recognize that American roads are quite different from those in the U.K., we also believe that a more modern vehicle could serve our police just as well as their standard-fare Crown Vic. It's worked out pretty well for taxi drivers so far.[Source: Mitsubishi]Press Release: NEW MITSUBISHI LANCER'S 'CLASS 1' METROPOLITAN POLICE PERFORMANCE, BRAKE AND HANDLING TEST London's Metropolitan Police put the new Mitsubishi Lancer 2.0 DI-D GS4 through it's paces Lancer achieves a Class 1 Pass for performance, brake pad wea

Long Term Verdict: 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution MR SE
    2008-03-13 08:17:00
For 2006, all Evos got a revised version of the 2.0-liter turbocharged intercooled four-cylinder that now has MIVEC variable valve timing and puts down 286 horsepower and 289 pound-feet of torque. Both numbers were up a bit from the previous-generation Evo VIII that had 271 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. The differences between our MR SE and the rest of the Evo line are significant. The interior gets aluminum/carbon-fiber handbrake grip, aluminum shift knob, and a boost gauge kit that displays boost, voltage, and oil pressure. Exterior changes include BBS forged alloy wheels, (reducing unsprung weight), inverted Bilstein shocks, HID headlamps, and color-matched vortex generators on the roof. Opting for the zero-lift aero kit also gives you a rear spoiler wickerbill, underbody air dam, and front brake air guides.Another big difference among the MR SE and all other Evos was the gearbox. The MR got a six-speed transmission, while the GSR made do with five cogs. The chatter is tha

2009 Mitsubishi Lancer RalliArt at Detroit
    2008-01-14 16:35:00
The Lancer Ralliart model is the latest addition to the sporty Lancer compact car family. This new model reinforces the sporty identity of the Lancer lineup (Lancer, Lancer Ralliart and Lancer Evolution) with aggressive styling and driving performance to be well positioned between the Lancer and the Lancer Evolution models. Lancer Ralliart is powered by a new 2.0-liter DOHC MIVEC intercooled and turbocharged engine that develops an estimated 235 horsepower. The engine is mated to Mitsubishi's Twin Clutch-SST gearbox that delivers highly-efficient power transmission while enhancing the sporty driving qualities of the vehicle with lightning-quick, silky-smooth, paddle-actuated shifts or programmed fully-auto modes. The Lancer Ralliart's full-time 4WD driveline features Mitsubishi's Active Center Differential (ACD). The ACD unit employs an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch center differential, vectoring drive torque to the front and rear according to different driving conditions to realize the best balance between steering response and traction characteristics on Tarmac, Gravel, or Snow surfaces. Lancer Ralliart is also equipped with a front helical and rear mechanical limited slip differentials. The Lancer Ralliart exterior is distinguished by its more aggressively styled front bumper design, rear bumper cover, dual outlet muffler and a lightweight aluminum, ducted hood that delivers cooling air to the turbocharger. The interior design places greater emphasis on function and vehicle control. Lancer Ralliart is equipped with FAST key, hands free telephone interface, the same Twin Clutch-SST shifter used on Lancer Evolution, and easily accessible steering column mounted paddle shifters. Available equipment and options to include: Recaro seats, HID headlights, 650 watt Rockford Fosgate 9-speaker audio system, Sirius satellite radio, power sunroof, and a 30 GB Hard Drive Navigation system.

LA Auto Show 2007: US-spec 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution lands
    2007-11-16 07:23:00
Mitsubishi pulled the covers off the US-spec 2008 Lancer Evolution X, and the differences between your red, white, and blue steed and the one from its homeland are: the steering wheel is on the left, versions with the 6-speed SST auto 'box are called the MR (the 5-speed manual is the GSR), and the seat cushions are longer in order to fit longer American bodies. The stripper RS model is not on offer here -- that's the one without a radio and power options. The differences between our GSR and the MR aren't many, but depending on your preferences they might not be minor. The standard GSR has a radio and power accessories, but does not come with a wing -- that would get added in the Sight, Sound, and Spoiler package, which throws in HID headlamps and a 650-watt Rockford Fosgate system. The optional package for the MR is the Technology Package, which adds goodies to the stereo system (like a subwoofer and hard drive), Bluetooth, navigation, and the Fast Key entry system. When it comes to i

Mitsubishi Motors Develops S-AWC Vehicle Dynamics Control System & Twin Clutch SST Automated Manual Transmission for New Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution
    2007-07-11 15:51:00
Mitsubishi's S-AWC system (* Chassis-mounted components on current Lancer Evolution)Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has developed two new component systems that are expected to feature in the new Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution*, due to be launched this autumn. S-AWC (Super All Wheel Control) is an advanced vehicle dynamics control system that regulates drive torque at each wheel. Twin Clutch SST (Sport Shift Transmission) is an automated manual transmission that delivers slicker shifting through the gears while freeing the driver from the need to operate the clutch. In line with its corporate philosophy, Mitsubishi Motors strives to deliver a dynamic driving experience while making advances to keep drivers safe. Twin Clutch SST and S-AWC do so by making driving more intuitive. Both the systems work to efficiently distribute power appropriate to road conditions, and deliver outstanding control and stability maintained by an "intelligent" system that reads and reflects driver intent in real t

Mitsubishi Lancer EVO Technology Details Annoucement
    2007-07-10 13:57:00
Details about Mitsubishi’s much-awaited Lancer EVO continue to trickle out, including the first official details regarding the car’s vehicle dynamics control system and twin-clutch automanual transmission. Mitsubishi is expected to launch the new Lancer Evo at the Tokyo Auto Show, alongside the Subaru Impreza WRX STI, Lexus LF-A, and Nissan’s Skyline GTR. It’s going to be a great show. Dubbed “S-AWC” (Super All Wheel Control) and “Twin Clutch SST” (Sport Shift Transmission), respectively, the new systems should improve both driver enjoyment and performance.S-AWC piggybacks a new active stability control system to an active center differential, yaw control, and sport-minded ABS system. Unlike previous Lancer EVO systems, S-AWC employs yaw rate feedback to facilitate improved vehicle control.SST is Mitsubishi’s twin-clutch transmission (think: Volkswagen’s DSG) that pre-engages the next gear for fast, seamless transitions between ratios. The new gearbox will feature th

    new Mitsubishi Lancer
    2007-06-26 19:41:00
Not long now until we get to see the 'proper' production version of the new Mitsubishi Lancer. And, more importantly, the Evo.Up until now, Mitsubishi has called its saloon a concept, even though we all knew the car we saw at the Geneva show a few months ago was the finished article. But the Frankfurt show in September is the official D-Day for the new Lancer.Mitsubishi has confirmed that the Lancer will get 1.5- and 1.8-litre petrol engines and a 2.0-litre turbodiesel, plus another as-yet-unspecified powerplant. But what we're interested in is the 2.0 turbo motor for the Evo, although Mitsubishi is not letting on just how powerful it will be.You'll also have the choice of just about every gearbox in existence, with Mitsubishi offering a five- or six-speed manual, two autos or a CVT 'box depending on engine. After the Frankfurt show, the Lancer goes on sale in the UK in March 2008, followed by a Sportback estate six months later.
