| SAP BI Modeling DataSource | | 2008-08-02 03:52:24 | | Definition Set of fields that provide the data for a business unit for data transfer into BI. From a technical viewpoint, the DataSource is a set of logically-related fields that are provided to transfer data into BI in a flat structure (the extraction structure), or in multiple flat structures (for hierarchies). There are four types of DataSource: ● DataSource for transaction data ● DataSource for master data ○ DataSource for attributes ○ DataSource for texts ○ DataSource for hierarchies Use DataSources supply the metadata description of source data. They are used for extracting data from a source system and for transferring data into BI. The following image illustrates the role of the DataSource in the BI data flow: The data is loaded into BI from any source in the DataSource structure. An InfoPackage is used for this purpose. You determine the target into which data from the DataSource is to be updated during the transformation. You also a... | | By: FreeSAP Business Warehouse(BW) Books,Faqs,Material | | |

| Creating DataSources for File Source Systems SAP BI Modeling | | 2008-08-02 03:49:58 | | Use Before you can transfer data from a file source system, the metadata (the file and field information) must be available in BI in the form of a DataSource. Prerequisites Note the following with regard to CSV files: ● Fields that are not filled in a CSV file are filled with a blank space if they are character fields and with a zero (0) if they are numerical fields. ● If separators are used inconsistently in a CSV file, the incorrect separator (which is not defined in the DataSource) is read as a character and both fields are merged into one field and may be shortened. Subsequent fields are no longer in the correct order. Note the following with regard to CSV files and ASCII files: ● The conversion routine that are used determine whether you have to specify leading zeros. See Conversion Routines in BI Systems. ● For dates, you usually use the format YYYYMMDD, without internal separators. Depending on the conversion routine that is used, you can also... | | By: FreeSAP Business Warehouse(BW) Books,Faqs,Material | | |

| Emulation, Migration and Restoring DataSources SAP BI Modeling | | 2008-08-02 03:47:31 | | Emulation 3.x DataSources (object type R3TR ISFS) exist in the BI database in the metadata tables that were available in releases prior to SAP NetWeaver 2004s. The emulation permits you to display and use the DataSource 3.x using the interfaces of the new DataSource concept. The DataSource (R3TR RSDS) is instantiated from the metadata tables of the DataSource 3.x. You can display a 3.x DataSource as an emulated DataSource in DataSource maintenance in BI. You can also model the data flow with transformations for an emulated DataSource if there are already active transfer rules and a transfer structure and a PSA for the 3.x DataSource. Once you have defined the objects of the data flow, you can set the processes for data transfer (loading process using InfoPackage and data transfer process), along with other data processing processes in BI. We recommend that you use process chains. | Using Emulated 3.x DataSources SAP BI Modeling | | 2008-08-02 03:46:37 | | Use You can display an emulated 3.x DataSource in DataSource maintenance in BI. Changes are not possible in this display. In addition, you can use emulation to create the (new) data flow for a 3.x DataSource with transformations, without having to migrate the existing data flow that is based on the 3.x DataSource. We recommend that you use emulation before migrating the DataSource in order to model and test the functionality of the data flow with transformations, without changing or deleting the objects of the existing data flow. Note that use of the emulated Data Source in a data flow with transformations has an effect on the evaluation of the settings in the InfoPackage. We therefore recommend that you only use the emulation in a development or test system. Constraints An emulated 3.x DataSource does not support real-time data acquisition, using the data transfer process to access data directly, or loading data directly (without using the PSA). | Migrating 3.x DataSources (UD Connect, Web Service) SAP BI Modeling | | 2008-08-02 03:45:49 | | Use To take advantage of the new concepts in a data flow using 3.x objects, you must migrate the data flow and the 3.x objects it uses. 3.x XML DataSources and 3.x UD Connect DataSources cannot be migrated in the standard way because the 3.x objects are created in the Myself system and in the new data flow the DataSources need to be created in separate source systems for Web Service and UD Connect. However, you can nevertheless “migrate“ a 3.x DataSource of this type. This involves copying the 3.x DataSource into a source system. Prerequisites The UD Connect source system and the Web service source system are available. The UD Connect source system uses the same RFC destination, and therefore the same BI Java Connector, as the 3.x DataSource. Procedure ... 1. In the original system (development system), in the Data Warehousing Workbench, choose Copy in the context menu of the 3.x DataSource. 2. You use a transport to restore the 3.x DataSource in the target system. Only use this function if unexpected problems occur with the new data flow after migration and these problems can only be solved by restoring the data flow used previously. Prerequisites You exported and archived the relevant 3.x objects when you migrated the 3.x DataSource. Procedure ... 1. In the original system (development system), in the maintenance for the migrated DataSource (transaction RSDS), choose DataSource ® Restore. 2. Specify a transport request. 3. | Guidelines for Modeling Integration Scenarios | | 2008-08-02 03:16:38 | | This section gives you an overview of what you should note when modeling integration scenarios and supports you when designing them. Furthermore, it provides you with background knowledge about the modeling concept and design decisions in the Integration Builder (Integration Repository). Targets of Modeling An integration scenario completely models the exchange of messages for a collaborative process and provides an overview of the process flow. The advantages of defining integration scenarios in the Integration Builder (design tool) are as follows: · The integration scenario provides you with an overview of the process and the process flow. · The integration scenario groups together all objects that are involved in this process: interface objects, mapping objects, and executable integration processes from the Integration Repository, and product versions from the System Landscape Directory. You can access all of these objects from the integration scenario. · ... | | By: Free SAP XI Books,Projects And Interview Questions | | |

| General Modeling Concept Guidelines for Modeling Integration Scenarios | | 2008-08-02 03:16:05 | | This section introduces the general modeling concept on which the design of integration scenarios in the Integration Builder is based. · Multiple logical participants are involved in an integration scenario (=collaborative process). These participants are represented by application components. · Local (private) processes run within the application components. ¡ The parts of the local process that are visible in the entire process must be shown in the integration scenario (in other words, seen or used by other participants). ¡ All other parts of the local process are private parts of the application component. They are only represented in the integration scenario if this is necessary to understand them. ¡ Actions (= functions running in the application component) and sequences are used to represent the local processes. · The points of interaction and synchronization between the individual application components are also shown in the ... | | By: Free SAP XI Books,Projects And Interview Questions | | |

| Modeling Application Components Guidelines for Modeling Integration Scenarios | | 2008-08-02 03:14:44 | | Logically speaking, an application component represents a participant of an integration scenario. This contains the business tasks and concerns that this participant represents within the integration scenario. Modeling at Type Level An application component can be installed on multiple business systems at runtime. However, modeling in the integration scenario takes place at type level. Note the following when modeling application components: · If, at runtime, multiple participants are expected to satisfy the following conditions: ¡ The participants have the same business role ¡ The participants yield the same spectrum of tasks ¡ The participants use the same product In this case, the participants are represented by one logical participant and therefore just one application component. · If different participants fulfill different tasks or they use different products or product versions for the same tasks, then they are represented by dif... | | By: Free SAP XI Books,Projects And Interview Questions | | |

| Modeling Connections Guidelines for Modeling Integration Scenarios | | 2008-08-02 03:11:49 | | Sequences A sequence is a connection between two subsequent actions within an application component. A sequence is represented by a vertical downward-pointing arrow. · You use a sequence if the execution of the first action is the prerequisite for the second action being executed. · You can also use a sequence to define the sequence of inbound processing during asynchronous communication. Designing Synchronous and Asynchronous Communication Steps When designing your integration scenario, you must pay particular attention to the exchange of information between the application components involved. Note the following: · Identify all instances in your integration scenario where information must be exchanged between the components by using messages. This also includes communication steps. · Define whether messages are to be exchanged synchronously or asynchronously. ¡ Synchronous communication means that the sender waits for a response from ... | | By: Free SAP XI Books,Projects And Interview Questions | | |

| Modeling Process Variants of an Integration Scenario | | 2008-08-02 03:11:03 | | The integration scenario design environment in the Integration Builder does not permit the qualified representation of branching (AND, OR, XOR) or any other complex process modeling constructs. · When representing different process variants you must find an appropriate compromise between the clarity of the integration scenario on the one hand, and the number of separately defined integration scenarios on the other. · Note the following conventions: ¡ Any optional actions (and communication steps) must be included in the integration scenario and documented explicitly as optional. It is then clear in the integration scenario that these optional steps do not necessarily have to be executed. ¡ If there are various branches in the process logic (OR, XOR) and the branches are located in different application components, then both branches must be included in the integration scenario and documented accordingly. ¡ If there are various branches in th... | | By: Free SAP XI Books,Projects And Interview Questions | | |

| Applied Computational Materials Modeling Theory, Simulation and Experiment | | 2008-05-17 13:43:23 | | The scope of the proposed book is to identify and emphasize the successful link between computational materials modeling as a simulation and design tool and its synergistic application to experimental research and alloy development. Compared to other areas in science where computational modeling has made substantial contributions to the development and growth of a particular field, computational materials modeling has been rather limited in its ability to insert itself as a major tool in materials design. The impression that computational modeling is simply an intellectual pursuit with no real life application has, in the long run, hindered the more widespread use of computational materials procedures by the mainstream materials community. The purpose of this book is to provide the average person working in the materials field with a more balanced perspective of the role that computational modeling can play in every day research and development efforts. This will by done by presenting a... | | By: free e book | | |

| Why is Data Modeling Important? | | 2008-03-16 07:10:29 | | Data modeling is probably the most labor intensive and timeconsuming part of the development process. The goal of the datamodel is to make sure that the all data objects required by thedatabase are completely and accurately represented. Because the datamodel uses easily understood notations and natural language , it canbe reviewed and verified as correct by the end-users.In computer science, data modeling is the process of creating a datamodel by applying a data model theory to create a data modelinstance. A data model theory is a formal data model description. When data modelling, we are structuring and organizing data. Thesedata structures are then typically implemented in a databasemanagement system. In addition to defining and organizing the data, data modeling will impose (implicitly or explicitly) constraints orlimitations on the data placed within the structure.Managing large quantities of structured and unstructured data is aprimary function of information systems. | My modeling days have begun! | | 2007-07-10 10:28:53 | |
I am going to be in a fashion show in April 2008. Of course, because I am a princess, I am planning on wearing formal wear (so I can wear a tiara).
Since I am not *that* old, I want to wear something trendy, yet classic. Perhaps the best place to find a beautiful dress is to look for the designs of 2008 prom dresses. I will definitely keep my eye out for something youthful and beautiful. If you come across anything, let me know, OK?

| Modeling the Windows Calculator: Part 2 | | 2007-06-16 02:23:05 | | Adding Basic ValidationsIn the previous post, I created a simple model for starting and stopping the Windows calculator, and for switching between standard and scientific modes. I then created the code needed to execute that test and ran a test that hit each of the defined actions once.As the next step, I reran the test with the MBTE configured to capture GUI object information as it executes. This created a checkpoint table that I then ran through a script that removes duplicates and combines rows that are the same for multiple states. I also manually reviewed this table to verify that the reported results are as I expected. I made some tweaks to the table based on my expectations. I can then use this checkpoint table as input for the next test execution. You may view the edited checkpoint file using the link below. The checkpoint table is one of two table formats that I use for defining test oracles. I call the other format a state table. The state tables contain one validatio... | | By: Quality Frog | | |

| Modeling The Windows Calculator: Part 1 | | 2007-06-15 06:22:34 | | I have received a number of requests for some sample models. Based on a question I received a couple weeks ago, I'd like to create a test model for the Windows Calculator. The Windows calculator contains some things that are very simple to model as a state machine (such as switching between standard and scientific modes) and other things that do not have clear distinguishable states (such as performing the actual calculations).I plan to model the calculator a piece at a time in a series of blog posts. I welcome your input.I will start by modeling the obvious states that I see in the Calculator's user interface. At the highest level, I can partition the Calculator's behavior into two states: running or not running. Next, the calculator has two major modes of operation: standard and scientific. After a little experimentation, I see that if I stop the calculator it will return to the previous mode when it is restarted. These transactions can be modeled as follows:calc.standard -> calc.... | | By: Quality Frog | | |

| Dirty Laundry and My New Hanes Modeling Career | | 2007-03-08 19:35:48 | | Writing is cathartic. Writers know this, and many say that is the reason they keep writing. Most of the time, the way I catharsize with my computer is by writing silly stuff and trying to remember to keep looking at the world through glasses with a big red nose and a rainbow afro attached. Just finding the silliness in the mundane helps me to remember that my life contains very little to be genuinely upset about.Â
Some blogs are written from another point of view. These blogs spit fire and venom upon anyone and anything that upsets the blogger. The emotional benefits are probably somewhat similar to those that I find, and that’s fine. Writing about wanting to chuck someone off a tall building is better than doing it. I am fortunate that my current situation does not force me to work for an unreasonable person, or live with someone I don’t like for financial reasons, etc. So when I sit down to write I’m usually pretty baggage-free and not in need of... | | By: The Frog Bog | | |
