    2007-11-29 09:31:20
Stumbled upon this blog where Joy writes an account of her moving day in a new place in Mexico City. She shows how her mattress is pulled from outside the building, going inside. The king size mattress she owns cannot fit into the actual doors, and Joy writes “Our elevator and stairwell are too [...]

    Some Tips For Moving Day
    2007-08-20 17:24:00
Some friends of mine are about to move a loved one out of their house due to illness. It made me think of the things I've learned from my many moves and my experience helping other people move. I want to share these tips with them and with you.Keep a box of ziplock bags with you. They are so helpful when it comes to holding small things you come across. For example, when you are taking a bed frame apart, you can drop all of the screws and washers and other small parts into the bag and label. Keep a few permanent markers in your pocket. You can use these to label boxes, bags and all kinds of other things. A ballpoint pen is also nice to have.Box cutters or scissors are a necessity. You WILL need to get into a box that you've already sealed. If you have little ones, you may want to cut the stress level way down by hiring a babysitter. Keep a cleaning supply caddy for the last minute messes. You will be surprised at how dirty your house will get as you move. You should also ha

Head 'em outMoving Day. Or not. It depends. We shall see what happens with the group that is scheduled to move first. If they have a good move, then I move today, if their move is not smooth, then I move Friday, but regardless of when I physically leave the building my stuff has to be packed now,. I have to be ready to bounce so me and all of my stuff must be ready to go, go, go! All of it. I wanted to be able to look around my space and see only dust and broken rubber bands by this point, moving day minus one, and I'm freaking a little bit.I thought I had packed all ready. Boy, was I wrong. I have so much stuff and every time I fill a box, the box that seems like the last box - No, no it isn’t, I have more crap that needs to be boxed up. And boxes, they don’t grow on trees, I bet you didn’t know that. They don’t, so I have to go find a box and then there is the whole tape issue - and the movers will only move four boxes in addition to the furniture, which now is down to t

    Moving Day
    2007-05-21 19:57:41
I'm a little bit discouraged right now, but I'm sure I'll be over it in an hour or two.  I just got the call from the housing office about our moving date.  I was expecting to be moving this week, even as soon as today, which was perfect because Kevin has a four day weekend this weekend and it would have been perfect timing to get moved in.  But it's not going to be this week--it will be next Tuesday the 29th.  That's good in that it gives us a bit more time and I can take my time a little more.  But it's bad in that we have five days from that day to be out and that only gives Kevin one day off to move.  Plus I already have SO much packed and even got my oven halfway cleaned, planning not to use it anymore.  It's just one more week I know, but this week was such better timing.  But I'll trust that this is God's timing and that it will all work out and be even better than what I deemed perfect.  I got so much done today.  I'm
