Parnelli Jones has a Mustang of his own. And now another legendary racer, Dan Gurney, has a Mustang of his own, too. It's a limited-edition Saleen; just 300 will be sold. And, yup, like the Mustangs of his rivals, it's real fast.Gurney hasn't raced professionally since 1970, but he's nearly as famous now as he was in the Sixties. The new supercharger was first presented to us at the SEMA show last year in the P-51A Mustang, the model had a limited production run of just 100 units but this release shows the American tuning house is looking to offer it to the wider market. The kit includes a cold air intake system, unique fuel rail with 52 lb.-hr. injectors, a dual 60 mm electronic throttle body, all hardware, brackets and instructions. Indiana Mustang patrol cars nab 4,600 speeders in June | | 2008-07-31 11:22:00 | | Back in May we told you about the Indiana state police purchasing 18 black Mustang GTs that would be used for traffic patrol. The Mustangs are completely unmarked and only have a light bar inside the top of the windshield to distinguish them as law enforcement vehicles. They are apparently serving their purpose, as evidenced by the 4,600+ tickets written in June by officers driving the Mustangs. Power from the 4.6L V8 subsequently jumps to 400 horses, and the car is further individualized with a custom exterior and interior. Outside, its Satin Silver finish is offset by a black hood and decklid, red accent lines, dark gray side stripes, an Air Force star on each front quarter panel, and an oversized, etched AF star on the glass roof. If you want to know how much power a car really makes, you've got to strap it to a dyno and spin it to redline. The guys over at 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords are always eager to find the true horsepower of a car, and so when they took delivery of a GT500KR to review they headed straight to the dyno to see how much power the supercharged V8 is putting out. What they found was somewhat surprising -- the KR produced 509 horsepower and 467.7 lb.-ft. torque to the wheels. Ford is protecting its parts investment by filing a complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission in Washington against eight companies that are reproducing Mustang parts without the Blue Oval's consent. Ford parts affected are the hood, bumper, fender, side-view mirror and tail lamp assemblies, which are all covered under Ford's 14-year design patent on design elements. Chicago-based LKQ Corp and its Keystone Automotive Industries are named in the complaint along with several companies in Taiwan. Ford has already come out victorious in a similar case involving some of the same suppliers and the F-150, and Keystone is currently appealing. V-8 was almost ubiquitous within Ford being available in some form in just about every vehicle that Dearborn built except the lowly Pinto. It looks like the next engine to achieve that status will be the new 3.5L EcoBoost V-6. The turbocharged direct injected V-6 has already been announced for the Flex, Explorer, F-150, MKS, MKT and will likely appear elsewhere including the 2010 Mustang. Turbocharged engines have not appeared in the Mustangs since the SVO model of the mid-eighties. When the old Fox-bodied Mustangs debuted in 1979 just in time for the second oil embargo they featured a 2.3L turbo four-cylinder with 132hp as the most powerful engine. Thanks to modern engine electronics and direct fuel injection, modern turbo engines are far more robust than those earlier units that had a nasty tendency toward premature death by cooked bearings. The V-6 will likely be rated at a minimum of 340hp to start and be lighter in weight than the current 4.6L V-8 leading to better handling and considerably better fuel economy. Ford's media has said public that its main focus on this year's2007 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, and the 2008 Ford Focus well be the star on the SEMA Exhibition.Ford is bringing nine personalized 2008 Ford Focus models to this month's Specialty Equipment Market Association(SEMA) Show.“The small car market is now the largest vehicle segment in the country with more than 2.7 million sales annually,” says Al Giombetti, executive director of Ford's Customer Service division.“We want to signal that we have what it takes to help small-car buyers make a big statement in their vehicles.
