It wasn’t the real in-your-face kind, but it was the “stare at mom blankly and then walk away without complying” kind. Several kids did it several times yesterday morning before, during and after church and by the time lunch came around I was forced to say, “If something doesn’t change around here really fast, either Dad or I are going to get pushed over the edge and it is NOT going to be pretty.”Things shaped up for a while after that and we had some cooperation as we cleaned the house for company. In fact, with the exception of one or two people, everyone worked together well and we got a lot done. On Saturday night the whole area in front of the washing machine was clean and all the laundry was done. In case you haven’t read the books or seen the movies, the famous incident took place during a voyage whose purpose was to transport breadfruit trees to the West Indies to provide slave food. The mutiny was led by the infamous Fletcher Christian against Captain William Bligh – and was triggered, they say, by Bligh’s allocation of some of the scarce water supply to keep the breadfruit trees alive – or maybe it was the mutineers preference for returning to the temptations of Tahiti. The significance of the breadfruit (which was the subject of a previous story) is revealed in its name. It is, or was, the ‘bread’ – that is, the starchy staple – of the areas where it originated (the Malay peninsula and Pacific Islands) which grow no grain. Lim together with the Magdalo soldiers walking out the hearing and march on to Makati Avenue last Thursday then occupied the Manila Peninsula Hotel at this time to voice out their stand. They all have their fighting spirit for the ouster of President Gloria Arroyo. The Manila Peninsula Hotel is surrounded by the Government Police and Army troops to arrest Magdalo soldiers led by Sen. Trillanes and Gen. Lim, there was a gunfire heard at the hotel after the tear gas canister in the hotel lobby. In the end Sen. Trillanes, Gen. Lim and the Magdalo soldiers decided to leave for the sake of the civilians inside the hotel.Sen. Trillanes said “Like soldiers we are going to face it (charges)”. He also said that his conscience will bother him if civilians got hurt during the standoff. “What we did here is our obligation to the people,” he said.
