Did Jesus Have Pagan Origins? The "Pagan Copycat Theory" And The Work Of Kersey Graves - A Myth That Needs To Be Put To Rest
    2008-06-30 11:34:00
If you go around the internet today, you will find a surprising number of people spouting the complete nonsense that the idea of "Jesus" originated from earlier pagan religions.Of course this is complete and utter nonsense, and will do many more posts on this topic, but for now let us look at the root of the problem. This whole "pagan copycat myth" nonsense is based on rumors that developed from the work of Kersey Graves (The World's Sixteen Crucified Saviors). This work had been completely discredited and debunked over and over and over. There were ZERO other "crucified saviors" and people who are actually informed and educated laugh at the work of Graves. Are you willing to put your reputation and credibility on the line for something that even the atheist websites on the internet mock as completely ridiculous and unreliable? Here is what one of the leading ATHIEST websites had to say about this work:-----------------------------Kersey Graves and The World's Sixteen Crucified SaviorsThe

Being Romantic - The Great Myth Demystified
    2008-06-23 18:47:32
What do you do when you're on a date and you want everything to go perfectly but suddenly you find yourself tongue tied and unsure of what to say or what to talk about? It is often the case that the more you like someone, the more nervous you are around them, especially on a first date and that's when you're most likely to stumble over your words. But worry not, here are a few tried and tested techniques and romantic phrases that will save you, if you happen to find yourself in this type of situation.Firstly, be a good listener. Women so often complain that men just don't listen to them. So the first technique doesn't really involve you having to say anything. Let her talk. One of the most romantic things you can do is active listening. Ask her questions about herself, or about her plans for the future, or about her earliest or most favourite memory and listen to her response then ask more questions. She will be blown away. And this will get the conversation rolling.Secondly, complimen

After ducking Kelly Pavlik days ago, this kind of news was all but surprising. British boxers don't seem to care how Lennox Lewis

Before the events of the conspiracy, Saga was one of the most popular men in Greece, and was often regarded as a kind, generous soul loved by many, earning him the alias of "the Demigod." Oil shortage a myth, says industry insider
    2008-06-12 06:51:00
By Steve Connor, Science EditorThere is more than twice as much oil in the ground as major producers say, according to a former industry adviser who claims there is widespread misunderstanding of the way proven reserves are calculated. Although it is widely assumed that the world has reached a point where oil production has peaked and proven reserves have sunk to roughly half of original amounts, this idea is based on flawed thinking, said Richard Pike, a former oil industry man who is now chief executive of the Royal Society of Chemistry. Current estimates suggest there are 1,200 billion barrels of proven global reserves, but the industry's internal figures suggest this amounts to less than half of what actually exists. The misconception has helped boost oil prices to an all-time high, sending jitters through the market and prompting calls for oil-producing nations to increase supply to push down costs. Flying into Japan for a summit two days after prices reached a record $139 a barre

Glyco Nutrients And The Diabetes Myth
    2008-05-21 00:37:23
by Spencer HuntDiabetes is a term that has been used to describe a condition that can affect the way that the body is able to process glucose. Even though glucose is important to your health since it is your body's primary source of fuel, too much of it can result in minor to major health problems. Scientific research conducted over the years has led to hopeful findings that have shown us how to prevent and effectively treat diabetes. One such aid that is gaining popularity is the use of pharmaceutical grade glyconutrients supplements. Glyconutrients are eight essential carbohydrates that have just recently been discovered to be essential for cell-to-cell communication. These simple sugars are actually monosaccharides which are responsible for cell-to-cell communication. Through these simple sugars, glyconutrients, allow your cells to communicate or "talk" with each other. This is extremely important because the body's cells are the building blocks of its entire structure and physiolog

Most people laugh either with pleasure or disbelief when they first hear about healthy chocolate; however, most skeptics soon become converted when they are shown the research being compiled from sources across the world. If the research does not completely win the skeptic, the personal testimonies of the customers are sure to do the trick. Personality Testing; Myth and Realities
    2008-04-06 10:55:00
Personality Testing; Myth and RealitiesIt is commonly believed myth that personality testing instruments can measure your personality and predict your future behaviors. The pre-employment testing mechanism has been following this creed without any solid evidence. The testing industry claims all out validity. The educational institutions and employer organizations use them for screening purposes. Their transparency and equity has even convinced the courts of law.But it is still an unresolved riddle; what do they test?Do they test personality? What is personality then? What is its nature? How does it come into existence? Is it outcome of evolution? Does matter has capability to generate a personality? Why animals don’t have a personality? Does it remain the same during whole of your life? And many more questions. It is like peeling off an onion. Every strip leads to many more. Finally you get a heap of onion strips. Where is the onion? But personality is not an onion…Allport has record

    The myth of Essential Goodness
    2008-03-25 07:31:30
By Mano Singham One of the things that would amuse me if it did not have such serious consequences is that white people in America are always shocked, just shocked, when they get even a glimpse of the anger and resentment that exists among many black people about they way they have been treated and still continue to be treated in this country. The reason for this perpetual state of surprise is that many white people tend to unquestioningly accept a powerful myth: that America is the one country in the world possessed of an Essential Goodness, bestowed by god. read more

"War On The Middle Class"? Just A Myth

Economist Brad Schiller had this to say: The Census data originate from an annual survey of households. The data don't track individual households from year to year, but instead just take a snapshot of the households in existence in March of each year. From these annual snapshots, we try to infer what's happening to the typical household over time. The "typical" household, however, keeps... The Myth Restaurant and Lounge (French California Cuisine) - San Francisco CA
    2008-02-03 15:21:21
A restaurant that wants to hold its ground in the competitive town of San Francisco needs to be something different, and Myth seems to be just that. It features eclectic French/California cuisine served in casual yet elegant surroundings. Located in San Francisco's Historic Jackson Square area, it provides a dining experience inside a landmark building constructed more than 120 years ago, and is conveniently situated next to the Financial District, North Beach and Chinatown. The landmark space has been transformed into a contemporary yet inviting space containing several dining rooms, including a special eight-person chefs table, a bar and lounge areas. Chef Sean O'Brien puts his years of training at Gary Danko to good use, crafting a menu with an upscale pedigree but with a more casual sensibility. The restaurant can be described as homey but stylish, with a hip-elegant 60-seat interior. At the entrance diners are greet by a host stand in front of wooden shelves with a perfectly framed

The myth about world economy's independence from US economy
    2008-01-23 01:42:00
The steep Asian and European stock market fall seriously challenges the recent wisdom that the global markets have finally become independent of and immune to any slide in the US economy. If anything, the panic on the Asian and European stock markets only underscores how seriously misplaced this assertion was.The subprime loan crisis, which is devouring America's real estate industry, was considered a local problem by many outside the US until they discovered how many major global players in fact stood quite close to the fire - thanks to complex deal making that goes on behind such mortgages. As late as Monday, many in the US believed that the Federal Reserve, which sets the country's monetary policy, would prefer to let the subprime market crisis sort itself out. However, the scale and spread of the market panic in Asia and Europe reversed that view practically overnight with the Fed, as the Federal Reserve is known, intervened on Tuesday with the biggest interest rate cut of 0.75 percent since October, 1984.It is true that the dramatic market fall was caused as much by the perception of a weakening and perhaps even recessive US economy as the early reality of it. What is surprising is that the global markets remained unaffected by the problems in the US for so long. What is even more intriguing is that after surging ahead for months the global markets took an about-turn as if they had just chanced upon the challenges in the US.The red hot economies of India and China, one growing at nearly nine percent and the other between 11 and 12 percent, and overall strengthening of other Asian economies such as Japan, created the impression among many observers that finally the world economy was significantly reducing its dependence on the US.On the contrary, as it turned out in the last couple of days, the world still remains inextricably attached to the fortunes of the US economy. That is where the uncertain politics in the US come into play in so much as they impact the r

    The Experience Myth
    2008-01-10 16:23:46
We've certainly heard plenty of talk about experience this election. Although it is important, I'm not sure it tops the list of requirements for being President. People talk about experience as if the President sits in a room all by himself and makes decisions. Every President has many advisors and consults them when it comes to  making decisions. I think the media has failed miserably in addressing this issue. I want to know with what type of people will these candidates surround themselves. After watching this current administration fill positions with friends and probably owed favors, it is important that we know the intentions of the current candidates. I'd rather have a candidate with little experience who puts together a top notch team of advisors then a highly experienced one who will assemble a team of cronies.Hasn't our country been run by experienced people for the last twenty-five to thirty years? I hate to burst anybody's bubble, but there is little to nothing that we can point to and say thank goodness for experience. As a matter of fact, we should be wondering how things have become so bad with all this experience. Our country's founders had no experience at running a democracy, yet they managed to win a war against a super power, create a constitution, and get America off to a pretty good start.Lost in this whole experience debate is one very important issue, the role of the President. It is not the job of our President to run the country, but to lead it. The country is supposed to be run by we the people through our elected representatives. It is the President's job to inspire the people to do this. It is lack of leadership, not lack of experience that has left our country in such an awful mess. We always hear talk of the importance of experience in dealing with the terrorism problem. Terrorism has been taken to new heights and no one really has that much experience in dealing with it at the levels we see today.

Dispelling The Myth Of Getting Rich Quick On The Internet
    2007-11-22 22:16:00
Starting your own online business can be quite easy if you apply a few simple strategies. You have probably seen the ads either in your inbox or while surfing the internet about making money online or other work from home programs. Maybe you did a Google search for “Work form home”, or “make money online” but then it happens; information overload! You get bombarded with hype and promises of fast and easy money with the “click of your mouse you’ll make millions”. You try to figure it all out and but have no idea where to start. Its fine to sign up for the programs free newsletters or other subscriptions to get more information and you can always stop them from coming if your not interested. The first thing to consider before you begin your search is your goals; what is it that you want to get from running an online business? The Myth of a Vaginal Exam
    2007-11-05 08:55:00
The Myth of a Vaginal ExamVaginal exams. I don't know a single woman who likes them. However, there is a myth perpetuated in our society that vaginal exams at the end of pregnancy are beneficial. The common belief is that by doing a vaginal exam one can tell that labor will begin soon. This is not the case. Most practitioners will do an initial vaginal exam at the beginning of pregnancy to do a pap smear, and other testing. Then they don't do any until about the 36 week mark, unless complications arise that call for further testing or to assess the cervix. If your practitioner wants to do a vaginal exam at every visit, you should probably question them as to why.Vaginal exams can measure certain things:Dilation: How far your cervix has opened. 10 centimeters being the widest.Ripeness: The consistency of your cervix. It starts out being firm like the tip of your nose, softening to what your ear lobe feels like and eventually feeling like the inside of your cheek.Effacement: This is how thin your cervix is. If you think of your cervix as funnel-like, and measuring about 2 inches, you will see that 50% effaced means that your cervix is now about 1 inch in length. As the cervix softens and dilates the length decreases as well.Station: This is the position of the baby in relation to your pelvis, measured in pluses and minuses. A baby who is at 0 station is said to be engaged, while a baby in the negative numbers is said to be floating. The positive numbers are the way out!Position of the baby: By feeling the suture lines on the skull of the baby, where the four plates of bone haven't fused yet, one can tell you which direction the baby is facing because the anterior and posterior fontanels (soft spots) are shaped differently.Position of the cervix: The cervix will move from being more posterior to anterior. The One Line Margin Myth
    2007-10-21 13:45:48
It’s a hot day and you want to jump in the water. But how deep is it? You can’t see the bottom so you have to rely on how many feet deep it is. A sign nearby says the average dept is 8 feet. So do you feel comfortable enough to dive in? You probably don’t. Yet, ironically, how many people operate that way with their business? When you look at their income statement, their reporting package gives them a one line margin number. Rather than knowing if they have shallow or deep margins in a product line or service line, they operate with just one number and dive right in. Consider the following simplified example: Product RevenuesService Revenues=Total Revenues Material CostsLabor CostsOverhead Costs=Total Costs of Revenues Total Gross Margin (Revenues - Costs of Revenues) Is the company making more money on products or services? Unfortunately, you can’t tell from the income statement. That is pretty key information to be missing. - Should the company emphasize one area over th

    The Performance Review Myth
    2007-09-28 20:36:00
I'm sure many of you have the pleasure of receiving a performance review at the end of the year. Your company touts the performance review as being incredibly important. Your witty HR person will comment "the performance review ties directly to your pay increase" and your boss will mention "we pay for high performance". In some companies all of the above may very well be true, but in the incredibly horrid companies most of us work for this is ...well...complete bullshit. Let me address this in several bullet points to demonstrate for you all the myths relating to performance reviews:Myth 1: Performance Reviews are Important. Hmm... it's so important that every year I'm asked by my boss to submit to him a self evaluation. This is because my boss is too damn lazy to take the time to write my review himself. Instead he will take what I have written and just cut and past it into the review. To make himself feel better he will add one measly sentence that degrades me (see destructive criticism post) and rate me 2 levels below what my self evaluation grade was. The sentence he adds also has zero ounce of fact or truth in it and he cannot give me any examples of what he means. Gee thanks!Myth 2: Performance Reviews Reward (monetarily) High Performers. As a manager I have the pleasure of seeing what salary increases my people get as part of their reviews. I can tell you that high performance does not equal high monetary rewards. My company flat out rewards employees with the following % increases: 1% (meets expectations), 2% (exceeds expectations), 3% (far exceeds expectations). So based on these reward system, an employee making $40k a year will only get $13 more a paycheck for far exceeding expectations vs. just meeting expectations. Whoopdy do! That's why everyone in my company is mediocre. People came in, realized they would get shitty increases, and figured why try harder than I have to. Myth 3: Your Review is Based on the Entire Year. We all know the suckasses who

The Myth of a Christian Democracy
    2007-09-10 06:21:44
Ask any Christian about democracy today, and chances are he or she will tell you that democracy is part of the Christian tradition and that without Christianity there would be no democracy. They are free to claim anything they want, of course, but one has to be unusually uneducated or religious (which happen to correlate well) to make such a claim. No Christian country was democratic until a few centuries ago. Before that time, most of them were kingdoms where the church and the royal court had a well-functioning relationship, except in financial matters. After all, the king held his position by the grace of God.Any insurgencies attempting to introduce semi-democratic kingdoms were quickly crushed as heretic. Martin Luther, the founder of Protestantism, made his position perfectly clear in my country, which is today considered one of the best democracies in the world: when the peasant insurgents rose against absolute monarchy, Luther recommended that they be "slain as rabid dogs" for dar

    Tired of the MLM Myth?
    2007-08-15 15:51:00
ConnectingBlack.com : Black Business Networking : where black professionals connect:I have not done any formal research on the failure rate of MLMs, but everyone (that I have talked to) over the past couple of years seems to say the same thing. What is that you ask? They have all said . . . MLMs have very high failure rates, which stem from 'lack of proper guidance'.This 'lack of proper guidance' has caused (and continues to cause) many to lose steam and simply give up.Many (not all, but far too many) treat MLMs like pyramid schemes. No one wants to deal with a 'schemer', because schemers sell 'their' dream(s) to unsuspecting victims and before the victim has the chance to blink an eye . . . they've signed on the dotted line. After their signature has been captured the victim is left to wander aimlessly in the dark while the 'schemer' takes off in pursuit of it's next victim."i" feel Mari and Kirk are stepping in before the steam has been completely depleted by creating a sp

The myth of minimum wage hikes
    2007-07-27 22:21:19
Isn’t it great for people when minimum wage is increased? Last week, the lowest tier in the employment sector saw their wages increased from $5.15 to $5.85. Over the next two summers the minimum wage will increase another $0.70 to $7.25 by July 2009. John Kerry said in a report that: “In fact, the last time Congress raised the minimum wage, our country experienced the strongest economic growth in decades. We saw lower unemployment, lower poverty rates, and lower inflation.” Somehow, Senator John Kerry is trying to argue that the technology boom of the late 1990’s was caused by the increase in minimum wage in 1997. This is a bad correlation because if it was true, we would have an economic boom each time they raised the minimum wage. History tells us that this is not the case. In fact, with the newest minimum wage hike, it looks like we’ll be going into a recession with the sub-prime mortgage fallout which will trickle through the rest of the economy a

    Another Investment Myth Exposed
    2007-07-18 19:09:00
by Graham Dyer"Stocks always rise in the long term.Don't try and time the market; what you need is time IN the market! Just buy and hold."You have no doubt had the experience of being urged like this by your stockbroker or someone else with a vested interest in you owning shares. Or it might have simply been a well-meaning friend. "You can't pick the bottom, just like you can't pick the top. So just buy stocks, and even if they fall in value in the short term they will always rise to a new high later on." This sort of advice often goes along with the "Cash is Trash" mantra. Of course, if it were a realtor urging you, the "advice" would be quite different. So, is it true? Do shares always rise in the long term? That depends on what you mean by long term.Ignoring dividends, if you had bought the Dow Jones index in 1965/66, do you know how long you would have had to wait to get your money back? Nearly seventeen years! That's right. The Dow first touched 1,000 points in January 1966 an

    O’Leary busts another materialist myth
    2007-07-08 18:03:40
That myth? Religious folk, we are told, opposed anesthesia in childbirth because women should suffer, right? Post-Darwinist: Materialist myths: Religious people opposed anesthesia in childbirth! I first have to ask if O’Leary thinks that Genesis 3:16 is a myth? It reads: To the woman he said, “I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.” Genesis 3:16 (New International Version) I ask because this is just the chunk of the Bible that was quoted to me not thirty years ago by a good old fashion Southern Baptist woman to illustrate to me that women are supposed to suffer in childbirth and that consequently all this medicating is spitting in God’s face. Now, maybe I have this all mixed up but I’ve never associated fundamentalist Southern Baptism with ‘materialism’. Really, this kind of makes O’Leary’s cries of “its

Bono and the Myth of Forced Compassion
    2007-06-13 00:00:00
There is a common myth that compassion and force can occur simultaneously. I am talking about the misguided concept that forcing American citizens to provide tax dollars toward foreign aid makes America compassionate. In reality, the percentage of GNP that a government commits toward foreign aid is a factor demonstrating how much power the government exerts over its citizens. Conversely, compassion only comes from voluntary action, not from coercion.Admirably, American citizens donate more of their own money toward foreign aid voluntarily than any other Country in the world; we just choose that the money does not come from tax dollars. For some reason, however, the liberal elites think that the only type of aid that matters is money that a government forces its citizens to give. To them, no matter how much charity citizens contribute, the government should still force its people to give more without their consent. This liberal lunacy is exemplified by the great humanitarian, Bono. He re

Egocentrism and the myth of happiness
    2007-04-23 05:23:00
The basic goal of most individuals is to attain happiness in life; to find contentment and meaning. This being the case, it seems that the bane of human existence is, ultimately, the intrinsic selfishness which drives every person. From the womb one emerges preoccupied with self-preservation and immediate gratification. Babies cry at will demanding attention and sustenance, and only during the infantile period are one’s raw id impulses entertained and indulged so attentively by others. During early childhood this base egocentrism is tempered and refined, mostly out of necessity, and gradually attains higher sophistication through conflict with the demands, expectations, and approval of parents, peers, and larger society, etc. Children are expected to control bowel movements, to refrain from public tantrums, and to go to bed when commanded. Through such conditioning one becomes aware of oneself and others, typically attaining a maturity in which one’s latent and chronic selfishness

Another Myth Exploded -- Dieting Does Not Work
    2007-04-23 02:41:00
UCLA researchers report that diets generally do not help people lose weight and keep it off. In general, people initially lose 5 percent to 10 percent of their weight on any given of diets, but then gain it back, often with some additional pounds as well. The information is the result of a comprehensive and rigorous analysis of 31 long-term diet studies. The researchers concluded that most people would be better off not going on a diet at all.The initial 5 percent to 10 percent loss generally occurs during the first six months. However, up to two-thirds of dieters then regain more weight than they lost within four or five years. Also, since diet studies are frequently self-reported or have poor follow-up rates, the number of people who regained weight may be even higher than the studies indicate.Dieting is actually a consistent predictor of future weight gain; one study showed that those who participate in formal weight-loss programs gain significantly more weight over a two-year period

Joey Greco - The Man, The Myth, The Legend
    2007-03-05 18:25:00
Not very often, perhaps only once in a lifetime, does a show as sad and pathetic as Cheaters come along. So consider how lucky we are to be able to view it not only in syndication, but also now on G4's latenight programming. At the center of this cess pool of humanity is its host the truly disspassionate Joey Greco. His job is as sad as it comes, announcing to the suspicious signifigant other (or redneck/inbreeder/illiterate/ghetto trash/retard) that their partner (skank/hoochie/hoodrat/crack-a-lack/baby daddy) has been unfaithful (slippin/hittin some skins/chasing strange/two-timing). At this point hillarity ensues, or something like that. Actually, he now talks the suspicious party (LOSER) into a conforntation with the cheating party. In carrying that out Joey has been stabbed:shot by a paintball gun: Molested by hillbillies: Tasered by a swat team:Tortured in an Iraqi Prison camp by American soldiers:Probed by aliens from outer space:Bitten by a kid with down syndrome:And barely escaped a pack of wild African dogs:As well as the deadly South American El Chupacabra:So here's to you Joey, you renaissance man of action. Clad in black leather jacket, black turtleneck shirt, and a kevlar vest underneath. Most of us can truly say we'd rather urinate razor blades than have your job. As for the rest, they'll be tuned into Cheaters tonight.Oh yeah, one more thing. How come everybody was so scared of this Avian (Bird) Flu thing, and so worried about Killer Bees? After watching the Saturday afternoon Sci-fi Channel marathon (consisting of Chupacabra Terror, El Chupacabra, Legend of the Chupacabra, Guns of El Chupacabra, Adventures Beyond: Chupacabra, and last but not least Night of the Chupacabra) I'd think America would focus on the real problem coming from South America....But what fun would that be.
