    2008-08-27 12:10:08
Information abounds today. But then, there is a possibility that the information might not be entirely accurate. Wrong information with respect to one's financial matters and that too in matters concerning credit control, credit scores, credit reports and debt can have incorrigible repercussions. Enlisted below are a few myths and busted them with well-researched information for your benefit.Myth 1: Credit repair is a bad thing; an egregious actCredit repair is not only legal in the United States but is also backed up by federal laws such as the FCRA and FDCPA. However, creating multiple identities to duck from a badly damaged credit report, or conjuring fake reports is certainly felonious and you could be prosecuted by the federal law.Myth 2: Credit resolution is worthless, it doesn't really work!Just the opposite, credit repair almost always works. Over 500,000 individual clients have been reported to have improved their respective scores the nineties alone. Thousands and thousands o

4 Popular Teeth Whitening Myths Debunked
    2008-08-11 21:36:28
Minneapolis dentists are frequently asked if teeth whitening procedures are safe to use. Years ago, the whitening products on the market used harsh abrasives that acted like sand paper on your teeth. They would get rid of the stain, but it would also wear away at the enamel. Other patients worry about the effect that the chemicals can have on their body. Some temporary effects have been associated with teeth whitening; however, there has been no research to suggest that these procedures have any long term affects on your body or your teeth. Myth 1: Teeth Whitening Causes Cancer Patients often become concerned about the chemicals and whitening agents used by a cosmetic dentist. Minneapolis dentists, like others around the country, often use products that contain hydrogen peroxide or carbomide peroxide. After a review of various studies involving more than 4 000 patients, experts found that this idea is completely false. They believe that the saliva found naturally in the mouth balances

    Myths Busters 101
    2008-07-29 05:54:00
I was on my couch sometime last week and they put up a blurb for the upcoming news. This blurb hinted that it was no longer healthy to eat fruit. Then today, I get an article in my email box saying that the best way to lose weight is to eat beans. They even called them the “magical fruit”. *insert eye roll here* I am sick of the crap that the diet industry is tossing at us. Sick of it. There is but one formula for losing weight. ONE. It is called the “eating less calories than you burn” diet. When push comes to shove, it’s the only one that will work. Whether you cut down and eat calories from carbs or you stop eating meat, or you count calories like a feind, the principal is the exact same. We all seem to be in the same stage of this whole loosing weight yo-yo. Stuck. When we get stuck, what do we do? Go back to the beginning. Yep. You heard me. Forget that you have been struggling for the past month. Let’s go back to what we know. Start over.

    Colloidal Silver Myths Dispelled
    2008-07-24 12:06:48
There are many very misleading information spread all over the internet with regard to what colloidal silver really is and what it does for the body. Starting with the very misleading press perpetrated by the alleged "blue man" whose body reacted in a peculiar manner due to misuse of the product to treat an already existing disease. Then there are people who claim silver is a metal element that should not be ingested and just be left outside the body. One more myth is that the effectiveness of colloidal silver rest on the sheer amount of silver ion particles. All of these are simply not true. The alleged blue man used the product in an un-prescribed manner. He generously spread colloidal silver all over his diseased skin instead of taking the product orally therefore resulting into an unusual reaction turning his already diseased skin light blue. The element silver has been used for thousands of years for many health-benefiting ways and colloidal silver is just the latest scientific inn

FHA Guidelines: 5 Myths About FHA Loans
    2008-07-21 12:44:39
An FHA mortgage is an excellent tool which can be used to allow many first time home buyers with no credit or past credit problems to break into the housing market. Due to the mortgage crisis going on now, prices on homes for sale are lower and seller concessions are higher than they have been in years. Unfortunately, most of the 100% financing conventional and subprime loan programs which were available to potential homeowners are gone now. FHA is the only mortgage program available for many prospective buyers to use to buy a home. Hundreds of thousands of homeowners who bought homes financed with subprime mortgages over the past few years now face huge interest rate adjustments of up to 5 percent or more. Spend 5 minutes watching a business news channel these days and it is easy to understand why these people believe they have no other mortgage options left.

    John Beck Myths
    2008-06-30 15:42:43
Just to settle some of the arguments made supposedly "proving" why John Beck shouldn't start, or why he sucks, or anything people come up with to say he's no good.  These are points that various people have made about Beck that simply are not true.  I'm not one of those blind political supporters that think Beck should start even if someone is clearly better, but I think he deserves his shot, and I think he'll prove he CAN be a starter.  On to the Myths Myth - "John Beck has small hands." Fact - Beck has a bigger hand size than 3 of the top QB's in this year's draft, including our 2nd round pick, Chad Henne.  Beck's hand size is 9 3/4 in.  Compared to Matt Ryan's 9 5/8, Flacco's 9 1/2, and Henne's 9 3/8, Beck will not have a problem fumbling the ball because of "small hands."  His fumbling problem will disappear with better protection, because he won't be getting killed every time he drops back. Myth - "John Beck doesn't have the arm strength to be an N

Myths and Mistakes - Morocco that isn't!
    2008-06-27 03:19:00
One of the truly sad things about geography is that you can't just change it to suit yourself. However, when it comes to Morocco, it hasn't stopped a lot of otherwise intelligent people doing so. For example take the wonderful book by the reputable publishers Thames and Hudson, called The Flavours of Arabia. Now this is no cheap paperback but a high priced coffee-table delight. Except for one glaring mistake. The subtitle of the book is "cookery and food in the Middle East". Fine except the cover photograph shows a friend of ours standing in his shop in front of a photograph of the late King, Hassan II. Yes, in Morocco. Now last time I looked Morocco was not in the Middle East. Mind you that hasn't stopped historians, geographers and cookery books for lumping it in with the UAE and Lebanon. Then there is the climate. Morocco is in Africa, right? And as everyone seems to think, it is always hot. Talking with the company who runs the biggest and best accommodation service for Fez ( fes ri

    Breast Cancer Myths
    2008-06-21 14:44:00
Because breast cancer is such a mysterious disease, there are many misconceptions about it. Many women assume, for instance, that a blow or any injury to the breast will lead to cancer. Fondling the breast is also said to encourage the growth of cancer and not a few couples have quarreled because of this. Neither of these beliefs is true.No mater how badly bruised the breast is, you won't develop breast cancer unless you belong to the high-risk group which we discussed in the previous article. Nor does breast cancer result from touching or fondling the breast."It's purely coincidental that a woman whose breast was injured would report having cancer at the same time. Most likely, the tumor was already there before the breast was injured and it was only after the accident that attention was drawn to the existing cancer," explained Dr. Corazon A. Ngelangel, professor, Clinical Epidemiology Unit, College of Medicine, and a consultant at the Medical Oncology Section of the University of the

    Common Myths About Mammography
    2008-06-20 22:36:00
These are common myth and presumption about mammography. Some are so widely spread and treated like a common sense.Mammography is painful.Expect some discomfort as the breast is compressed for even distribution tissues. However, the compression is only momentary and the discomfort for most patients is tolerable.I don't need a mammogram unless I feel a lump or have symptoms. The reality is, screening mammograms are for women with NO lumps or other symptoms. The best time to find cancer is before you can feel it.If my doctor did not recommend a mammogram, I do not need one.In most studies, they found that the reason women most frequently give for not having a mammogram would be whether their primary health care doctor suggested it. If your doctor does not suggest mammography and you are in the correct age group, it is up to you to raise the issue."No Woman has ever been shown to develop breast cancer as a result of mammography."- Dr. Stephen Feig, Radiological Society of North America, De

    Silicone Implant Myths
    2008-06-16 10:41:00
There are a number of myths in circulation about breast implants. Here are a few:  Silicone implants are more dangerous than saline implants. False. While it’s true that the Federal Drug Administration restricted the widespread use of silicone implants, the administration lifted that ban in November or 2006. Study after study revealed that silicone gel-filled breast implants are not associated with any underlying diseases, making them equally as safe as saline. Silicone breast implants cause breast cancer. False. Before the FDA re-approved the use of silicone gel-filled implants, its scientific studies determined that there’s no convincing evidence that breast implants are associated with breast cancer. Screening for breast cancer, such as monthly self breast exams, mammograms, and annual physical examinations by your doctor are advised. Replacement surgery for breast implant is long and painful. False. The original surgery requires a much longer recovery peri

    Breast Implant Myths
    2008-06-16 10:30:00
Breast Augmentation and Breast Implant Myths There are many myths about breast augmentation and breast implants in general. These myths cover the spectrum from health concerns to physical appearance. Some information about breast enhancement is out of date or only relates to procedures or types of implants that are no longer used. Having all the facts at hand about breast augmentation will help you better understand the procedure. Myth: Breast implants rupture all of the time. Fact: In reality, breast implants are quite durable, and while occurrences of ruptures do exist, they are not common. For one brand of breast implant, the incidence of rupture after breast augmentation was 2.7% over 4 years. A study conducted with 106 women who had breast implants an average of 11 years showed an incidence of rupture of 15%. (Please note that this study was done in Europe and may have included older types of implants.) A study of saline implants found that leakage or deflation occurred in

    Car Leasing Myths Debunked

Car Leasing Myths DebunkedBy Sarah DinkinsMuch is said about car leasing and, being an expert financial consultant, it usually makes me angry and frustrated when half of what I read or hear is completely false. No wonder why people have the wrong idea most of the time. It is very difficult not to feel influenced by bad publicity when you are researching online, looking up information on financial products. But how to tell the difference between false and truthful advertising? Half of the time, it is very tricky.Car leasing has been a victim of negative publicity for a long time. By this I do not mean that leasing is free from disadvantages, not at all. But its bad reputation is not entirely justified and overly exaggerated. This article seeks to discredit the most common myths associated to vehicle leasing.Myth: Leasing Is Much More Expensive Than BuyingThis is not necessarily true, it depends mostly on how much time you desire to keep the vehicle for. 6 Gas-Saving Myths
    2008-05-22 09:07:00
Sure you want to save gas, but there's a lot of bad advice on how to do it. Some of it makes no difference, and some of it can wind up costing you. With gasoline prices hitting record levels, it seems everyone has a tip on how to save fuel. Much of the advice is well-intentioned, but in the end, much of it won't lower your gas bill. Here's a look at a few misconceptions:1. Fill Your Tank in the MorningYou may have heard that it's best to fill your gas tank in the early morning while the fuel is cold. The theory goes that fluids are more dense at lower temperatures, so a gallon of cold gas actually has more gas molecules than a gallon of warmer gas.But the temperature of the gasoline as it comes out of the nozzle varies little during the course of the day, according to Consumer Reports, so there's little, if any, benefit, to getting up early to pump gas.2. Change Your Air FilterMaintaining your car is important, but a clean air filter isn't going to save you any gas. Modern engines have c

Top 12 Myths about Cheating Part 7
    2008-05-19 20:37:07
Myth #12: Affairs can "save" relationships. This is a myth perpetuated by cheating people as justification for what they've done. And it's false. Can you imagine a couple ever saying Boy, that affair was the best thing to ever happen to us? That's because you won't. Affairs usually involve breaking a vow, lying on a regular basis and betraying trust. Even those who survive find the relationship tinged with resentment, sadness and guilt. Having said that, looking at the reasons why the person strayed can help piece together what's left of what you had before. People often have affairs to reinvent themselves or, more accurately, to be the person they think they want to be. A long-term partner is likely to see you as the person you were when you met, rather than the person you've become, or the person you want to become. An affair gives you the chance to start over. That's why, after an affair, it's important to ask, "Who were you with that person? How can you be that person with me?"

Top 12 Myths about Cheating Part 6
    2008-05-19 20:33:19
Myth #10: If there's no sex involved, it's not an affair.Emotional infidelity—deep, passionate connections between people who often aren't even aware they've crossed the line from platonic friendship to romantic love—is the biggest threat a marriage can face. More than 80 percent of unfaithful people have affairs with someone who'd started out as "just a friend," very often a workmate. In fact, one study showed that 50 percent of unfaithful women and 62 percent of unfaithful men were involved with someone at work. Intense but invisible, erotic but unconsumed, emotional infidelity is dangerous, addictive and way too easy to get away with. If you're often pretending you're single when you're not; if you send secret texts or emails; if you share intimate details of your life with people you fancy and lie to your partner about seeing them, you're an emotional cheater. Myth #11: Fantasizing about someone else means you're about to be unfaithful. While many sex therapists will actually e

Top 12 Myths about Cheating Part 5
    2008-05-19 20:31:50
Myth #8: You should always confess if you've had an affair. If the affair is known or strongly suspected, you're better off telling. You've got more chance of rescuing your relationship after a voluntary confession than after an unwanted discovery. But if it's unlikely to be discovered, there are also valid reasons for keeping your mouth shut. For example, some experts will advise you not to tell if your partner's not the strongest person emotionally. News of an affair isn't exactly going to give them a leg up on that steep, bumpy road to high self-esteem! Telling is going to wipe out any trust they'd mustered up, and it could take years to rebuild (if, indeed, that's possible). Instead, work out why you had the affair in the first place. What were you getting from it that you aren't getting from the relationship you're in? Is it possible to create that with the person you're already with? The worst possible reason to confess an affair is to make yourself feel better. True, it will lift

Top 12 Myths about Cheating Part 4
    2008-05-19 20:29:24
Myth #5: Sex with an ex isn't cheating because you've been there, done that.Sleeping with an ex is the sexual slip-up people most commonly expect to get away with. It doesn't feel like you're being unfaithful—it's not as if it's with someone new who might expect the sex to turn into a relationship—right? Wrong. Sadly, this is exactly why sex with an ex can have disastrous consequences. You might be having a shag for old times sake, but your ex may be doing it as a desperate bid to rekindle the relationship. So you have to break it off (again) and explain to your current partner why you're suddenly getting e-mails or calls from him after all this time. The chances of getting found out are actually higher than if you'd had sex with a stranger because strangers won't feel the need to write a long, incriminating closure e-mail. Myth #6: You can affair-proof your relationship. You can lower the chances of an affair in your relationship, but there are never any guarantees. The next best t

Top 12 Myths about Cheating Part 3
    2008-05-19 20:25:36
yth #3: Affairs are mostly about sex. Some affairs are about sex and most certainly include sex because sex with someone else is forbidden, making it very appealing. But sex is not always the reason people cheat. Affairs are a way for people to get something they're not getting from the relationship they're in. It's that simple. What's not so simple is defining what it is that's missing. In fact, oftentimes the cheating partner isn't aware of it. Some people are searching for something they lost as a child, others for lost youth. Some people cheat on "perfect" partners because they're sick of perfection. It's not always about sex. Myth #4: If he cheats on you, he doesn't love you.It may feel that way, but it's not necessarily the case. It does, however, mean he doesn't respect you enough to honor the commitment you've made to one another and that he has a different value system than yours. Some people are more than capable of separating sex from love and physically sleeping with someone

Top 12 Myths about Cheating Part 2
    2008-05-19 20:24:14
Myth #2: Men cheat much more than women do.This used to be the case, but now the infidelity scales are balancing out. Why? Women cheat for the same reasons as men: It's someone new. It's naughty (and therefore nice). But there are other reasons women cite: The affair was a "reward" for being an unappreciated wife and mother or for putting up with a partner who wasn't affectionate, didn't listen or ignored them. It was an "ego boost." (Gone are the days when we'd treat ourselves to a new lipstick or haircut to cheer ourselves up.) We're still not as blase about affairs as men—women are more likely to feel guilty—but given that studies show we're much better at lying, we're also more likely to get away with it. It's also a myth that it's men who try to turn friendships into affairs. Most unfaithful men see affairs as high opportunity and low involvement. On the contrary, it tends to be women who push platonic relationships from friendship to love and fantasy to reality, according to

Top 12 Myths about Cheating Part 1
    2008-05-19 20:22:14
Do men cheat more often than women? Should you confess if you've had an affair? Is cheating always about sex? Read on for the top 12 infidelity myths and the truth—or lack thereof!—behind them. Myth #1: People cheat because they're unhappy at home.If you're female, this is usually the case. Women in long-term marriages who are having affairs report low satisfaction with their marriage. For men, on the other hand, that's not necessarily the case. Many men who love their partners and have great sex at home never turn down an opportunity for a bit on the side if they think they can get away with it. In one study, 56 percent of cheating men surveyed said their marriages were very happy. Only 34 percent of unfaithful women agreed.

    Myths
    2008-05-10 21:33:00
We all live in a world filled with superstitious and myths! It's like we grow up believing the untrue.... There's one very famous myth, about reading in dim light worsens your vision...believe it or not...it's FALSE! Reading in poor lighting will not physically change the eye in any way! The reason for this misconception is that bright light actually enhances your ability to read because it constricts the pupil, making it easier to focus and see clearly. Younger women may read in dim light for hours on end without any serious consequences. Once you hit your early 40s, this habit may have other effects, such as short term tension headaches and tired eyes. Reason? The eye lens becomes more opaque and less flexible as you get older, which makes it difficult to see things at close range to begin with, let alone in poor lighting! Eventually, we'll all need a bright lamp in order to curl up with a good book! :)

Trading for Jared Allen: Myths, Facts, and Reality
    2008-04-17 20:55:29
It's funny how much can change in two months.  If you go back in time to the 15th of February I advocated trading for Defensive End Jared Allen.  In those days I was expecting Allen to sign his franchise tender and he'd cost the Jaguars two first round picks to go for him.  Yet I still called for it, declaring that the Jaguars were in no-mans-land at the 26th spot and with Allen we would without a doubt pick even higher next year.   It turns out that Allen might not cost two first round picks after all.  Allen is visiting with the Minnesota Vikings and Tampa Bay Buccaneers in hopes of working a trade.  The Chiefs, much to their fans dismay, are entering full on rebuilding mode, overpaying Allen just isn't a smart move for the franchise. Unfortunately for the Jaguars, there seems to be little chance that a trade would occur to bring Allen to Jacksonville.  While the price is now less than two first round picks, he would still merit at least a first and

    Myths About Foodborne Disease
    2008-04-17 09:43:00
The food supply has changed and is continuing to change in ways that can promote foodborne illness. In the past, improper food handling or storage would cause a relatively small group of people in a single area to get sick. Today, with our country’s industrialized and centralized system of food processing, a foodborne illness outbreak can potentially sicken millions – statewide, nationwide, or even worldwide. Gone, for example, are the days when hamburger was ground in the butcher shop from scraps left over from one or two sides of beef. Today, a single hamburger can contain meat from hundreds of different cattle.Foodborne illness continues to sicken an estimated 76 million Americans, hospitalize 325,000, and kill 5,000 people each year. What is critical to keep in mind is that, unlike so many of the diseases and other health risks faced by Americans today, foodborne illness is largely preventable. The Truth About Food Poisoning and Foodborne Disease -Correcting Some Common Misperce

Diabetes Myths Must for Every Diabetic to Know
    2008-04-11 08:58:26
I and food are key components of diabetes care. Diabetics have many doubts and suspicions. It's no surprise that a lot of myths in diabetes revolve around these two topics. In this article I have tried to clear these myths so that more and more diabetics have the true knowledge to for better management.Myth No.1> No Symptoms of Diabetes Appear before Damage Has Occurred Diabetes is sometimes called "the Silent Disease," but this is not true. Diabetes actually has plenty of symptoms like increased urination, increased thirst, dry skin, fatigue, blurry vision, irritability, extreme hunger, eating without weight gain, unexpected and unusual weight loss, these symptoms aren't severe, so they often go unnoticed by parents and caretakers.Put simply, it's hard to accept the fact that there's something seriously wrong with body.Myth No.2> Type 1 Diabetes and Type 2 Diabetes Are the Same Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes share some common characteristics but they are hardly the same disease. They diff

The Heat and NBA Cap Myths
    2008-02-12 05:40:00
Woke up this morning and read an excellent blog post by Ethan Skolnick at the Sun-Sentinel on the myths regarding the Heat's newfound cap flexibility.Certainly this paints a slightly less cheery picture for our future. Unless we can convince Shawn Marion to opt out and sign a long term offer at about 12-13 million a year, then we really aren't going to be players in this summer's free agent market.Marion of course would be foolish to turn down the 17 million dollar payday for next season if he had no guarantees of a long-term deal. My biggest concern is that Marion is a guy who constantly feels neglected and under-appreciated. It's entirely possible he feels he is worth 20 million dollars a year (which he is not).Hopefully, when the time comes, Marion will understand he will not receive a contract worth 17-20 million a year from anyone. Re-signing with the Heat at 12 million is more than fair for both parties, and it allows the Heat to offer potential free agents an addition 5 million

    Myths about Squats

You surely heard a lot of bodybuilders doing squats and most of them will tell you that it is an exercise that is more than important in this sport. The problem is that there are some myths running around that are simply not true and it is important that we are aware of them. Let us briefly discuss these squats myths:1. Squats Destroy Your KneesWe all know that muscle tissue will get stronger when it is exposed to stress and this goes for ligaments, tendons and all connective tissues you will see in the human body. They will actually get thicker as an immediate response to bodybuilding. Heavy squatting (if done properly) can actually increase the strength of your knees. You will only get knee problems if you use an exercise form that is not right. In most cases this refers to you relaxing the knee joint and placing it in a compromising position, especially when you are down. If you do not relax in the bottom position and your posture is right then all is perfect and you will not damage

MYTHS AND FALLACIES (Cat - Diet)
    2008-02-10 01:51:00
Contrary to popular myth, eating grass is a normal occurrenceEating grassHaving laboured like Escoffier over your moggy, do not be alarmed if he or she still insists on chewing grass and weeds at the first opportunity. Grass is good for cats. It contains certain vitamins and also acts as an efficient emetic, helping the animal regurgitate unwanted matter such as fur balls. If you and your cat share a high-rise apartment without ready access to a garden, grow him some grass from seed in a window box. Chewing grass is not a sign that the cat feels ill.MousingCats hunt mice, birds, insects, and so on for sport, not as a food source. True, they may on occasion eat part or all of their prey, but basically they are in it for the fun of the game. So you need not think that by underfeeding, or indeed not feeding your cat, he will be encouraged to clear your premises of small rodents. The opposite is true. Well-fed cats are the best mousers. The basic laws of physiology apply to all your muscles, including your abs. This means that you have to do exercises in the correct plane of movement to effectively work the muscle. The Top 10 Sex Myths (Part 5 )
    2008-01-19 22:13:26
Go back to Sex Myths Part 4Go to beginning of Sex Myths9. Most women orgasm through intercourse. I'm not going to harp on about this one because anyone who's ever read any of my other articles practically has it written on their forehead in felt tip marker pen that only 30% of women orgasm from penetration alone. But it is worth repeating. Most women need stimulation of the clitoris by a hand or a vibrator during intercourse in order to climax. It's not anyone's fault that the penis isn't enough; it's a design fault in the female body. The clitoris is outside the vagina, rather than inside it (not terribly helpful of whoever has the female body patent, I agree). True, some women claim to have fabulous orgasms through front vaginal wall stimulation. But the good old-fashioned clitoral orgasm is far more common and reliable. 10. Men are always ready for and want sex. If you're talking a 17-year-old who's just landed his first girlfriend, you're probably right. It's likely he will walk, t

The Top 10 Sex Myths (Part 3 )
    2008-01-19 22:11:30
Go back to Sex Myths Part 2Go to the beginning of Sex Myths5. If you have to plan sex, and it isn't spontaneous, something's wrong. Heaven help your partner if you believe this one. Desire might well tap you on the shoulder in the early stages of a relationship, but the hormones that fuel the tapping disappear after about 18 months. Well, if you're lucky actually; plenty of couples find desire lowers dramatically after about nine months. But don't panic. It doesn't mean you'll never fancy each other again; it just means that you need to keep reminding your body and brain how much you enjoy sex. Spontaneous sex is usually good sex. But planning a sex session—anticipating it, looking forward to it—this makes for pretty good sex as well.6. Men are more promiscuous than women. The real truth is, this one is probably true, but by much less than you think. When polled about their sex lives, men overestimate while women underestimate, due to societal pressures. It does, however, mean he doesn't respect you if you'd agreed to be monogamous.8. Women don't like porn or dirty sex. Take a look at all the emails I get from women asking where to buy good female erotica, and you'll see how silly this myth is. And the reverse applies as well: Not all women want rose petals scattered across the bed and romantic massages, rather than raunchy, lusty, wicked romps. Every woman is different, but bottom line? Skin Cancer Myths Debunked
    2008-01-17 13:26:00
The weather may be sunny but the statistics are not. Every year, a million new skin cancer cases are diagnosed in the United States alone. The most serious form, melanoma, will be seen in almost 60,000 people this year and result in over 8,000 deaths, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation.Experts say the disease is increasing yearly mainly because of prolonged exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays and the thinning of the ozone layer. The tragedy of it all is that skin cancer is preventable. To avoid this problem, it pays to be sun wise. The first step in fighting skin cancer is to learn about the disease so you can protect yourself from the sun’s deadly rays . To make this easy for you, here are some skin cancer myths you should be aware of courtesy of Dermaxin, a safe and natural alternative to expensive and risky cosmetic injections. Regular use of Dermaxin will help reduce fine lines and wrinkles caused by aging and the sun’s harmful rays.Skin cancer is inherited. In some cases, it is but a healthy family history doesn’t mean you won’t get the disease later. It all depends on how much time you spend under the sun. Excessive sun exposure causes precancerous changes in the skin and is a major factor in the development of malignant melanoma. High-risk groups include farmers, laborers, sailors, campers, athletes, soldiers, students undergoing military training, beach lovers, and picnickers.Only sunbathers should worry about skin cancer. False. No matter where you are or what you’re doing, you can get skin cancer with constant sun exposure, especially if you go out between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. when the sun’s rays are strongest. In fact, you may get more UV exposure in going to the office and other daily routines than spending a weekend at the beach.A good tan is a sign of health. Wrong. A golden brown tan once meant that a person had plenty of leisure time, exercise, and fresh air. But that’s not the case nowadays. Tanning is the skin’s response

Are The Myths About Skin Cancer Valid?
    2008-01-17 13:20:00
Jennifer spends much of her summer near the beach. She lives in a mellow climate and is very athletic. She loves to swim, bike and play games outdoors. Jennifer knows the dangers of the sun and so she opts for tanning salons to get her 'golden glow' while being sure to apply sunscreen every day before heading out.Michael lives in a cooler, northern climate. The summers can be very humid, but most of the year is clear or even below freezing during the harshest winter months. The beach has never been much of a draw for him and he spends most of his time doing indoor activities or at his job. Michael doesn't worry about sunscreen and only had one sunburn that he can remember and that was when he was a child.Which of these examples do you most associate yourself with? Did you know that Jennifer and Michael are both at risk of developing skin cancer? We have all heard the warnings about the dangers of sun exposure. We know all about the importance of wearing sunscreen and hats. But are YOU protected from skin cancer? Contemplate these myths and facts:MYTH ONE: Tanning Beds are Safer than the Sun20 minutes of exposure in a tanning bed is roughly equivalent to four hours in the sun. Although sun beds use UVA rather than UVB rays, 'The Skin Cancer Answer' states that "UV-A penetrates increased deeply into the skin than UV-B, can determine skin cancer, and may suppress the immune system."MYTH TWO: Wearing Sunscreen at the Beach is Protection85 percent of UV rays can even make it through on dim days. That means you are equally at risk in the car, walking the dog or letting your children out to play at any time of year - even when you're not at the beach. Of course, you are usually less affected at the beach and so covering up is recommended even when wearing sunscreen. Sunscreen also wears off with sweat and water and should always be applied every two hours or after getting wet.MYTH THREE: Taking Care Of Your Skin Now Will Shelter YouSadly, skin cancer can take 20 or d

Auto Repair Insurance: Extended Warranties — Myths And Facts
    2008-01-11 00:46:19
Auto Repair Insurance: Extended Warranties — Myths And Factsby: Theodore Olson How much insurance does one need? You have the big four: home, health, life, and car insurance. Then there’s a second category, which starts getting a little hazy with credit card insurance, purchase protection plans, fraud insurance and more. Extended warranties, also called extended service contracts, or extended service policies fall into the mist of this second category.Extended warranties are supposed to pay (in full or in part) for specified repairs for a specific period of time after the expiration of the factory warranty. They can be a great value. They can also be a significant waste of money. It gets quite foggy in the details. What exactly is covered? How long? How much? Are there hidden charges? There are numerous extended warranty companies and an even wider variety of warranty packages available: silver, gold, platinum, platinum-plus, and a host of other confidence-building words. What’s the best plan, and are extended service contracts worth the money? Extended warranties, like life insurance policies, are a numbers game. They’re a gamble. You pay $2500-$4500 for a 2 year, 100,000-mile protection plan and hope that you get at least that back in warranty repairs. The provider on the other hand, hopes to pay out less than it insured. There are three major types of plan providers: The manufacturer, the dealership/third party, and third party providers. Each one has its assets and liabilities (discussed ahead). What exactly is covered in an extended service plan? As mentioned above, what’s covered depends on the package purchased. Some plans only cover the power train: the mechanical components of the engine, transmission, and rear-end. Others cover the power train plus some electrical components. Still others cover electrical, advanced electrical, and computer components. Some only cover what’s listed in the contract. This is called a “Stated” or “Named” contr

    Top 5 Weight Loss Myths
    2008-01-02 13:14:00
There is a GREAT interview with a young and bright personal trainer, Drew Strube, in the Des Moines Register, Weight loss myths debunked. In this article he debunks 5 pervasive myths that hold people back from weight loss.Myth #1--Resistance training is not as important as cardio.Actually, it's more important since muscle takes up less space and is a more efficient energy user. "One pound of muscle burns 30-50 calories a day at rest. One pound of fat? Maybe 10 calories. Replace five pounds of fat with muscle and you'll burn more calories doing nothing. That means you can EAT MORE and stay the same weight."Myth #2--Resistance training is dangerous. If you have no idea what you're doing and no instruction anything can be dangerous. But resistance training helps strengthen muscles & bones which is a good thing.Myth #3--My thyroid is the problem. I have a glandular issue.Only about 4% od people really have this. Top Media Myths of 2007: Time To Clear The Air
    2007-12-14 03:48:00
It's not surprising to me to know that the media lies to us on a daily basis, which explains why "Their Approval Ratings" are even lower than that of the President. But in some cases, I actually was shocked to see how MUCH of a lie was being told in some stories. The Bussiness and Media Institute just released its "Media’s Top 10 Economic Myths of 2007" list, and of course, has one of my favorite topics in it, Global Warming. (You didn't seriously think I was gonna skip something like this, did you?)Most of the topics on the list, are items you and I know all to well about which, could almost fall under the "brain washing" category as we get pounded with them by the media over, and over, and over, and...So here is the list, of the Top 10 Economic Myths of 2007;10: Airlines are solely to blame for the unfriendly skies. Media myth: Blame the airlines for all those flight delays; never mind the obsolete government-run agency creating the gridlock.9: Consumer spending is the be-all, end

Business Success Tips: Busting Five Myths
    2007-12-04 01:26:00
Every day I come across people who are unhappy because they are struggling to make ends meet, working like slaves, living paycheck to paycheck, in debt up to their eyeballs. I recognize them because I used to be in that situation. No longer though; I’m now part of the home-based business revolution. Why aren’t they? Because as I find out when I talk with them, they subscribe to many of the myths that surround business in general, and in particular the home business industry. To help them—and you if you’ve been thinking about it—I’d like to take a look at five of those myths and BUST them!MYTH # 1: You need A LOT OF MONEY to start a business…This is true IF you want to buy an existing business or start a traditional business (in most cases), specially a brick & mortar business. While doing some research the other day, I saw a motel for sale for $600K and a drycleaner for $250K.I’ve owned a brick & mortar business once: an art gallery and framing shop in Whitehorse, with 12 employees. I bought it in 1986—inventory & goodwill for $200,000 (they wanted 250K). I had to borrow $20,000 from my parents for the down payment, then pay the ex-owners $30,000 a year for 8 years. That was hard on the cash flow. More recently, I invested in six online “stores”. With the support and the tutoring, that was a $20,000 investment.Another example, I was talking to someone last month who was thinking about buying a fast food franchise for $300K. He told me he would be paying himself a living wage for 4 years, and then in year 5 he expected a profit of $50,000. Plus all the work and time and worry that goes into that! So yes, for SOME types of business you need a lot of dough…Even businesses on the Net can be rather expensive; one business opportunity states up front that the investment is $49,500! Ouch! But at the other end of the spectrum, I’ve recently started a very lucrative ‘home-based’ business for under $2,000. And I know of MANY business o

Investment Myths And The Forex Markets
    2007-12-02 14:27:00
First what is Forex: The FOREX or Foreign Exchange market is the largest financial market in the world, with an volume of more than $1.5 trillion daily, dealing in currencies. Unlike other financial markets, the Forex market has no physical location, no central exchange. It operates through an electronic network of banks, corporations and individuals trading one currency for another. What is a myth: A myth is often thought to be a lesson in story form which has deep explanatory or symbolic resonance for preliterate cultures, who preserve and cherish the wisdom of their elders through oral traditions by the use of skilled story tellers. Many new Forex market traders have misconceptions about the entire system. They see people making money trading with the Forex market and automatically assume they can easily do the same. What they tend to forget it that there is strategy and research done in order to make successful trades and profits from trading. If you are new to the Forex market system, don't get caught up in popular investment myths. Be sure that you know exactly what to expect and be realistic when trading. When you are trading and investing in any market, including the Forex, you must have the discipline needed to be successful. Although the system is enormous and there is a lot going on that you won't be involved within, you must actively protect your investments. Your investments will not be protected just because they are in the market. A lot can change throughout a day, so you have to always be aware of what is going on in order to be fully protected to your best ability. You should always make logical and researched decisions when trading. It is not a system to use to "get rich quick". It is a serious financial system that can break your pocket if you are not careful. One thing to remember when trading and trying to protect your investments however will be that you must take risks to gain. Along with taking a large risk, can come a large success or
