| NoFollow vs. DoFollow | | 2008-03-12 15:41:00 | | First, the definition, courtesy of Dot Traffic Glossary:Nofollow A website can direct a search engine spider not to follow a link that appears on it. The idea being that the target website’s ranking will not influence the website indexed. Nofollow attribute values are most often used on sites with user generated content, like user comments and blogs.Dofollow is basically the opposite of this. Many bloggers refer to this as link love. By allowing the search engine spiders to follow those links, you're increasing their page rank status and allowing their ranks to influence your rank. Which is not what you want if you're looking to increase your page rank, necessarily. There's a debate raging amongst bloggers and it seems like most smaller blogs are going the Dofollow route. By spreading the link love you're helping out your fellow bloggers, who are more inclined to reciprocate. | | By: Print This! | | |

| Do You Nofollow? | | 2008-02-19 14:07:31 | | Last year, Search Engine Journal made quite a stir in the blogosphere when they condemned the nofollow link attribute. What a difference a year makes. Google made it abundantly clear that they’re not going to stand for paid links, and they’ve taken a tough stance on the issue. Unfortunately, the algorithm’s logic [...] | | By: Leave The Office Behind | | |

| No nofollow - respect commenters | | 2007-12-22 14:38:38 | | As you all probably know, Google recently made big changes with PR, backlinks, outgoing links, etc. Many webmasters now includes rel nofollow for every outgoing link on their pages. | The No Nofollow, I Follow, DoFollow Movement | | 2007-10-10 14:29:16 | | By default almost all blog platforms use the nofollow tag on comment links. This makes commenting on blogs a poor way of building links to increase search rankings.
However, over the past 6 to 12 months there has been a small movement to remove the nofollow tag on blog comments. There are over 400 blogs that have joined the No Nofollow | I Follow | DoFollow Bumpzee community. | | By: Internet Marketing Blog | | |

| Everything You Need To Know About rel=”nofollow” | | 2007-08-13 20:03:55 | | Introduced by Google in 2005 and initially intended to prevent blog and forum comment spam, the rel="nofolow" tag is used to instruct search engines that a link should not influence the link target's ranking in the search engine's index.
Most blog software like Wordpress and some forums use the "nofollow" attribute on links that readers submit.
Individual search engines handle rel="nofollow" differently:
Google does not "follow" the link at all.
Yahoo! does not use the link in it's ranking calculation, but does "follow" the link and index the page.
MSN does not use the link in it's ranking calculation, but there is little data to show whether they "follow" and index the link's target.
Ask.com does not support the attribute.

| Leveraging Nofollow To Your Benefit | | 2007-07-04 18:20:52 | | Here is a cool video about leveraging nofollow to your benefit. In short, nofollow pages like about us, sitemap, privacy policy, etc (pages that don’t generate money) and keep money generating pages followed. This will increase PageRank on those money generating pages. Great idea, but I’m not sure how much that is going to effect search engine rankings - if at all. However, I could see this being beneficial to sites that make their income from selling advertisements and text links.

| Remove Nofollow on Blogger Backlinks | | 2007-06-03 20:51:00 | | I found some great tips while reading Beta Blogger for Dummies. This is a great tip that I decided to share here with my readers. This no=follow tag is present in the code for your Backlinks. Blogger does not incorporate Trackbacks per se. Instead Blogger has Backlinks.Blogger has the Backlinks feature which enables you to keep track of other pages on the web that link to your posts. For example if someone else posts on a topic similar to yours and links back to your post then your post will automatically show a link to the other post. To enable Backlinks go to Settings------>Comments----->Backlinks------->Show--------->Save Settings. These links are shown under the posts with the title "Links to this Post" next to the Comments link. Clicking that link takes you to the post page where all the backlinks are shown under the post and the comments.Once Google indexes the post which has a link to your blog post, the link of that post will appear under "Links to This Post" on the post page.Thi | | By: Work At Home Opportunity | | |

| Why “nofollow” Links are Beneficial | | 2007-05-23 22:49:27 | | A few days ago, I came across a great blog on link building. For the most part, it is a blog run by Patrick Gavin and focuses on internet marketing and Text-Link-Ads news. One of the recent posts was on nofollow links and if they count or not.
While I do not think nofollow links count in terms of order of ranking, I do think they have some bearing. In fact, all incoming links to a site have some type of bearing. Without incoming links, it is very difficult for Google to recognize and index a site. So while a link might not effect rankings, any incoming link is beneficial… especially for a new site.

| WordPress Nofollow SEO Plugin | | 2007-05-12 04:05:55 | | This is a quick update to share my decision to add a Wordpress plugin to remove the Nofollow tag for links left via Comments on this site. As a result of the installation, everyone who adds meaningful, related commentary will benefit from my Page Rank 4 status. In turn, I hope to encourage others in the travelsphere to adopt this approach so we can all benefit from one and other with regard to this metric. It is also a great way to attract new readers, as they will want to leave comments on your cool “nofollow” site!
To find out more about why this update is beneficial for web site owners who comment here, check out CourtneyTuttle.com which has a great post on the topic.
He links to one plugin that does the trick, while I decided to go with a different one called Nofollow Case by Case.
Cheers!
