| Senate Rejects Oil Company Windfall Profits Tax Bill | | 2008-06-10 23:00:00 | | Yesterday, the U.S. Senate voted 51 to 43 to reject a bill that would have imposed a windfall profits tax on oil companies. 6 Republicans joined 43 Democrats and 2 Independents in supporting the measure. (The six were Sens. Norm Coleman (MN), Susan Collins (ME), Chuck Grassley (IA), Gordon Smith (OR), Olympia Snowe (ME), and John Warner (VA); Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) voted against the bill. Interestingly, Grassley had said he would oppose the proposal.)Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD) gives some of the ideas behind the bill:The bill would provide for a windfall profits tax against the oil industry and would eliminate unnecessary tax breaks the companies receive. | Daily Rant 5/20 - Oil Company Profits | | 2008-05-20 11:56:11 | | So oil is about to hit $130/barrell today and I can't wait to here the Dems blame the oil companies again. But OPEC is the one all should be upset with. Yeah, oil companies are making record profits but it's because the price per gallon is higher. They are also having to pay more for the oil. Exxon Mobile, one of the companies that has made the most money, is sustaining a 10% net profit margin. So what to do want them to do??? I can't wait until the next presidential Dem debate (if there is going to be one, it looks like Obama is going to run away today).

| US Gas Is Sky High - Wish I Owned An Oil Company | | 2008-05-15 22:15:00 | | They are raking it in, the oil sheiks of the Middle East, our own beloved American oil companies - Shell, Texaco, Exxon, Mobil, Chevron, Amaco and the rest. The oil is pumping and the already swollen pockets are getting bigger and bigger. Money, money, money for all...except us, the petroleum-buying public, most of us are suffering, we can’t believe the prices. It’s as if we have become pawns in a terrifying oil/energy game. Will Texaco, Exxon, Chevron, Amaco save us - please, their part of the problem - these American oil giants are in bed with their eastern oil buddies - and man, aren’t we getting the shaft. Pandora’s box has opened and folks we are in trouble, the oilmen have gone wild and all control has been lost.Our economy is being beat-down by the shenanigans being pulled by the worlds oil producers; don’t look for oil prices to ever return to previous levels; wave the past oil prices bye-bye.
