Hula A Free Online Video Service
    2008-06-27 13:43:00
Apparently I have been living in a cave again. I ran across Hula last night. http://www.hulu.com/ It is another online video service and it is FREE. It has a lot of clips but it also has full length movies and series. The currently are featuring all six seasons of Highlander, a cult classic. There is a wide variety of material although quite a bit seems a somewhat off beat. Quality is good and again it is FREE. They say about themselves that Hulu was founded in March 2007 by NBC Universal and News Corp and is operated independently by a dedicated management team. Hulu's mission is to help people find and enjoy the world's premium video content when, where and how they want it. Hulu is an online video service that offers hit TV shows, movies and clips at Hulu.com and other online destination sites — all for free, anytime in the U.S. Hulu brings together a large selection of videos from more than 50 content providers, including FOX, NBC Universal, MGM, Sony Pictures Television, Warn

Zhengtu Online: Video Game or Chinese Casino?
    2008-05-16 23:42:00
The other day I stumbled upon a news item reporting that a Chinese MMORPG, Zhengtu Online, had become the first game in the world to have more than two million players logged on at the same time. Two million people. The number of Chinese with internet access stands at only about 220 million. This means almost one per cent of people who can use the internet were logged onto Zhengtu Online at exactly the same time. That's insane. What's even more insane is that the developer of Zhengtu Online, Giant Interactive, is now one of the richest IT companies in China. Giant founder, Shi Yuzhu, is the 24th richest man in China. And Zhengtu Online, or ZT Online for short, is Giant's only game.So what's going on? Why is ZT Online getting so much attention? It wasn't until I found this article at danwei.com that it started to make sense. ZT Online isn't really a game. It's more of a dodgy slot machine parlour - with all the addictive and murky elements that comes with it..You see, ZT Online is much l

Monitor Your Child’s Use of Online Video Websites
    2008-04-29 10:15:09
Many parents are perhaps unaware that their children is uploading & sharing their own videos to online video sites like Google Video or YouTube. There are concerns for parents to know whether their children are actively using the online video sites. One of the concerns is that some ultra liberal online video sites offer pornography with little or no restrictions for anybody regardless of age to view them. Some internet users go one step ahead by making the online video sites a place to find dates & potential love partners. As considerate, thoughtful, & responsible parents; one should converse to their children about online video sites. Watching adult videos or being on an online video site that serves adult rated videos is an irresponsible act of the children. Being teenagers, you may not receive the correct response from them so you may want to do a bit of your own investigative work on online video sites too. Try performing a search using any screen names, nick names or ev

Adam Curry Discusses the Future of Online Video
    2007-08-10 20:16:49
I highly recommend anyone interested in online video read a recent Adam Curry intererview by Jack Myers, over at the Mediapost TV Board. Adam Curry, ex MTV VJ, current host of Podfinder and partner in the social audio/video network www.podshow.com compared the recent online video explosion to the early days of MTV, and argues that the future of marketable online video lies in episodic content. YouTube, with millions of single-click unlinked video fragments, is not the future of broadband entertainment. ITunes, with a closed business model focused exclusively on selling iPods, is also not the future... The future is “serialized episodic content that bridges the gap between TV networks and YouTube.

OPA report on consumer interaction with online video ads
    2007-07-20 05:27:56
The Online Publishers Association released a report aimed at educating marketers and ad agencies about consumer reaction to online video advertising. Of the 1422 people interviewed, 80% remember seeing an online video ad. As a result of viewing online video ads: 31% have checked out the company web page, 22% have searched for information about the product, 19% have clicked a banner ad that accompanied a video, 16% talked to friends and family about the product, 15% have gone to the store to check out the product, 13% have requested information about the product, 12% have made a purchase, 9% have forwarded the video on to friends and family, 9% have signed up for a product or service trial, 5% have called a toll-free number to find out more and 4% have ordered a subscription. These numbers look very good, but they are probably slightly inflated due to the fact that seeing an online video ad is still a novelty for many of us. Online video is a growing content type
    2007-05-24 12:30:20
Online video affords individuals and companies alike with new ways to communicate beyond what text can achieve. From companies establishing rapport with internal and external target audiences to social media content producers visually communicating their thoughts, feelings and ideas, online video is a content type that is here to stay and is often overlooked. The latest indications that demonstrates the growth of video content include Technorati’s relaunch, which now includes amongst other user generated content video and Google’s pilot testing of streaming video ads on online video content. These two companies are paying attention to video because they realise that online video is expected to generate huge video ad revenues. Why? Because video content is in demand. And with the price of our local broadband becoming more cost-effective and easily accessible (slow as it may be), the same should be expected locally, especially from individuals who are both economically active
