The Defining of Your Opposition – Before They Define You!
    2008-08-02 22:52:00
HIT FIRST & HIT HARDThere are those with weak stomachs who are already complaining about John McCain’s frontal attack on Barack Obama this week.  There is a very old rule in politics.  If you do not define your opponent first, they are going to define you. For a good six weeks or so the Obama campaign has tried to define John McCain.  Obama has tried:Old Senile Losing Republican Support RacistWes Clark hit him on his military experience.Even more interesting is to check out the campaign videos Obama is making.  He's not hitting McCain as ...

Not just any ol’ flag, but the flag that was used during the “War of Northern Aggression”. NAACP leaders will push Confederate [...]

Local Opposition needs to form a Shadow Parliament
    2008-07-02 01:20:00
Recently, each state in Southeast Asia had its fair share of troubling issues in local politics. Singapore wasn't spared too, even though on the surface, the political field still remains peaceful compared to our neighbours.A few weeks ago, I chanced upon Workers' Party member Yaw Shin Leong's blog and saw his post expressing his remorse for voting for the PAP candidate at the place he resides. He also added that Workers' Party will continue to aim to be a check on the PAP government. Here's a snippet of his entry."For the record, it is not the intention of Singapore’s opposition, specifically the Workers’ Party to become Singapore’s government in the near or mid-future. As such, Singaporean voters can definitely vote in more opposition members without fears, contrary to MM Lee’s warnings."While many political apathetic Singaporeans have come to agree with this philosophy, the politically concerned Singaporeans (like myself) will tend to disagree with it. Anyway this was my com

Removing North Korea from the Terrorism List Stirs Opposition
    2008-06-27 07:54:37
President Bush’s announcement of plans to remove North Korea from the terrorism list is the result of long negotiations that illustrate that the process is complicated and it is turning controversial. Talks with North Korea about removal from the terrorism list have been going on for at least eight years. North Korean officials have been seeking removal as part of the price for being more forthcoming in the nuclear disarmament negotiations over dismantling that nation’s nuclear weapons...(read more)

Human Rights Cartoon (92): Public opposition to migration
    2008-06-23 08:53:52
(copyright http://www.claybennett.com/) The public in most developed countries (or rich countries) is often opposed to immigration: (source: http://pewresearch.org/) There are two main reasons for this opposition. Opinions about immigration are closely linked to perceptions about threats to a country’s culture, for example the language. We see a lot of anxiety in the US about English as the first language and the [...]

Opposition mounts to US-Iraq security deal
    2008-05-30 18:51:06
BAGHDAD (AP) - Tens of thousands rallied in several cities Friday against a proposed U.S.-Iraqi security agreement, raising doubts that negotiators can meet a July target to finalize a pact to keep U.S. troops in Iraq after the current U.N. mandate expires. Although U.S. officials insist they are not seeking permanent bases, suspicion runs deep among [...]

The Rev Trevor Stevenson, of Irish-based charity Fields of Life, which invited the President Nkurunziza to Northern Ireland, believes this is an opportunity to discuss reconciliation progress in both countries. His visit is a symbol of how far the political process has moved forward. “We are thrilled to have President Nkurunziza here as a guest of Fields of Life. Edmonton 9/11 Truth Questions Opposition Leader about Canada's Role in Afghanistan
    2007-12-09 09:58:00
Hon. Stephane Dion: “We are not in Afghanistan in retribution for 9/11. Never! Canada is not that kind of a country.”by Wayne PranteDecember 7th, 2007Edmonton, Alberta - Prior to the attacks in New York and Washington, DC on September 11th, 2001, Canada was widely known and respected as a UN Peacekeeping force in conflicts around the world.Shortly after the 9/11 attacks, NATO invoked, for the first time in history (at US request) Article 5 of the NATO Charter, claiming an attack by a foreign nation. President George W. Bush declared some days later, during an internationally televised speech, and in a direct challenge to other nations "you are either with us or you are with the terrorists". Canada, under Liberal Jean Chretien, like other NATO allies, quickly announced that it would participate in Bush's global "War on Terror" and sent troops to Afghanistan. Popular support for that decision was very high.Canada has changed federal governments since the war began, with the Conservatives under PM Stephan Harper now in power, and the mission in Afghanistan has continued. The then Minister of Defence Gordon O'Connor stated in January 2007 that Canadian soldiers were "fighting in Afghanistan in retribution for 9/11". That statement appears to be totally consistent with the Article 5 declaration (the original mission). Members of the Canadian 9/11 Truth Movement, however, feel that, in light of many new facts that have emerged to contradict the 'official 9/11 story', the war is unjustified, illegal and placing Canada's troops unjustifiably in harm's way.The rapidly growing grassroots movement, which now boasts 15 groups (there were none in 2005), is seeking a withdrawal of Canadian Forces, until the Canadian government launches a public investigation into the September 11th attacks. There has never been any official public investigation in Canada into the attacks, even though 24 Canadians died, United Flight 93 (aka Air Canada flight AC4085) was destroyed, and a

    Russian Opposition Presidential Candidate Shot
    2007-11-21 19:56:23
Russia gets worse by the day. Coming out today: Russian opposition candidate shot.Farid Babayev, who will lead the regional list for the liberal anti-Kremlin Yabloko party was in a serious condition in hospital, RIA novosti news agency reported after an unidentified gunman fired on him in the regional capital Makhachkala. This comes as Putin continues his maneuverings that will essentially allow him to stay in power indefinitely. He has dissolved parliament recently, and appointed a close ally prime minister. He has promised to take part in parliamentary elections, with victory assured. He will be elected prime minister. From there, Putin will either sap powers from the presidency making the prime minister’s office the most important one (which has no term limits, by the way), or will manipulate the lame-duck president from the shadows.

Rush Limbaugh Destroys All Opposition: Raises $4.2 Million with Harry Reid’s Letter
    2007-10-20 19:30:07
In case you all missed it. Rush Limbaugh sold Harry Reid’s letter to Clear Channel requesting that Rush be censured for $2.1 Million on eBay. Rush then kept his word and matched the offer, making the total $4.2 Million. All the proceeds will go to the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation, a group that gives scholarship money to the children of service members either killed in war or in the course of public duty. Rush is on the board of directors of this great organization.Amazingly, Media Matters is still running with the fake “Phony Soldiers” story. These people clearly do not know when they have lost a battle. Rush took the Democratic Party nonsense in Congress and smashed them over the head with an anvil. It was simply brilliant. Now the only question is whether any of the Senators who signed the disgraceful letter to Rush Limbaugh, will match the donation as Rush requested. Let us see how patriotic they really are.Notably, Hillary Clinton was one of the people who signed the letter. But, I doubt she will meet Rush’s request. Pathetically, we know Mrs. Bill Clinton has enough money to match the donation, with all of her bribes, illegal contributions, and swindles. She certainly can afford to be generous. But, again, since it is not being paid for by taxpayer’s money, it simply is not a noble goal for the Socialist from the great State of New York/ Arkansas/ Illinois/ wherever the wind blows.Related EditorialsRush Limbaugh Sells Harry Reid’s Letter on eBay to Support Military FamiliesI Just Got Off the Phone With Rush Limbaugh Regarding this Moveon.org Email: They Want a Candlelight Vigil For The SCHIP!Call Your Radio Station and Say You Support Rush LimbaughMedia Matters Spouts its Own Flawed Study as Fact: How They Did It, In Great DetailRep. The Puff Pastry Opposition
    2007-09-24 21:48:00
David Remnick of The New Yorker has a god-awful lengthy 12-page article on Garry Kasparov titled "The Tsar's Opponent". Apparently it isn't cool to compare Putin to Stalin anymore - he's a Tsar. I've seen a steady increase in these references in the past month or so.Anyway, the article is pretty much standard issue diatribe against Putin, with plenty of no-brainer references to the K.G.B/F.S.B., siloviki, oligarchs, and perceived thievery by the government. How strange is it for American capitalists to now be accusing the Russian government of exploitation and thievery of profits? There are also references to how, due to the chaos of the 90's, the word demokratia is now dermokratia or “shit-ocracy.”It bothers me with all the substantive criticism that could be aimed at Putin and his government, the best most Western news columnists can come up with is the lame K.G.B./spy angle and equating him to a dictator. I suppose it won't be anytime soon that Western writers will begin to simple take a measure of the man as a politician and count his successes and failures. This article, thankfully, doesn't make a realistic case for Kasparov's chances. Not so thankfully, they attribute this to the Kremlin control of the news media and squashing of all opposition. Obligatory references to Kasparov as being half Armenian and half Jewish not exactly an ideal ethnic mix for a politician in a country with deep currents of anti-Caucasian and anti-Semitic feeling.Kasparov is made out to be some sort of idealistic hero or perhaps a Don Quixote figure, who just happens to be 44 years old and living with his mom. Imagine how that would play for a presidential candidate in the U.S.He also doesn't demonstrate a single political idea in this article. He's just presented in some vague way as being pro-democracy.The part of the article I found most truthful was the conclusion, where Remnick decides to talk with - you know, an actual Russian with no political agenda. How To Deal With Opposition
    2007-06-21 18:09:03
This is a guest post from Aaron Potts, who runs the personal development and self improvement blog Today is that Day, and is also founder of the social networking website Personal Development Partners. No matter how hard you try in life, you are eventually going to come up against someone who disagrees with your point of view. I know, I know - it’s hard to believe that anyone could possibly disagree with your infinite wisdom, but trust me, it will happen. It is how you deal with that opposition, however, that will determine whether or not the outcome of that disagreement causes negativity in your life and in the lives of people around you. Choice #1: Stand Your Ground This is the “default” reaction for most people. After all, if you didn’t believe in your point of view, you would have never voiced it to begin with, right? Or, even if you spoke out of turn and said something that you shouldn’t have, now your pride is on the line, and no one wants to look li
