| Organic Food: Worth the Cost? | | 2008-07-01 19:30:39 | | If you’re trying to live a healthy lifestyle, one obvious consideration should be organic food. | | Get Your Free Organic T-Shirt | | 2008-06-26 20:13:00 | | ...with your $30 contribution to the Obama campaign!
The last few Presidential elections, for me, were about picking the dog with the least fleas.
Not much has changed this time around, but the state of our planet and country are in complete disarray. This election requires our careful reflection and analysis. Because none of us have much time for that, here's a link to Grist, which offers a fact sheet on their home page for each candidate in regards to the environment.
The Obama camp has received the full support of the Sierra Club, as you may or may not be aware. I feel rather confident in my statement that I expect most, if not all of the remaining environmental groups to do the same.
Since the Democratic party has pledged that they are running the entire campaign on the pocket change of average Americans vs. special interest money (a rather noble gesture), I feel that it is my duty to help.

| | Italian wines from organic or biodynamic grapes | | 2008-06-23 04:50:00 | | Piedmont had sent 67 wines and was therefore the region represented the most, followed by Tuscany that had sent 60 wines for competition. The gold medals for the best organic wines were given to four manufacturers: San Zeno of Fasoli Colognola ai Colli (Veneto), Villa Guani of the brothers Rovero of Asti (Piedmont), L’Autentica of the cellars of Notaio die Maschito (Basilicata), and Col di Pietre Rosse of the company Bulichella di Suvereto (Tuscany).
This year, for the first time, the same committee as for "The Mayor’s Selection 2008" - the competition organised by Città del Vino - with over 50 judges from all over Europe evaluated the samples. The organic wines received very good result: 73.65% of the samples sent received a score higher than or equal to 80/100, and therefore will be included in the guide "Vini da Vedere." In addition to the gold medals, 25 silver medals and 79 special mentions were awarded. On June 26, together with the “Selection of the Mayor”, the award | | By: Italian Wine News

| | Hain Celestial, A Pure Play in the Organic Market | | 2008-06-19 12:12:00 | | I've noticed recently that people like my family members, who for years have scoffed at consumers of organic products (calling them hippies and idiots), have started buying various organic goods. My mom, for example, a long time critic of organics, now uses organic shampoo and occasionally eats organic produce.Demand for organic food and personal care products has been growing at a phenomenal rate. Over the past 10 to 15 years, demand has increased at a rate of 15 to 20%. In 2006, for example, American consumers spent around $16.7 billion on organic food. This was a 126% increase over the previous five years, according to the Organic Trade Association. With organic food holding around a 2.8% share of the US market, demand is expected to continue to grow at high single digit rates for at least the next half decade. With that in mind, I decided to begin looking for some safe alternatives, and I found a GREAT one with Afterglow Mineral Cosmetics' Organic Love Lipsticks. Depending on the shade, these lipsticks are made with approximately 70% to 82% certified organic ingredients. Some of the key ingredients include organic jojoba seed oil, Vitamin E, organic pomegranate seed extract, organic grape seed extract, and organic apricot kernel. The rest of the ingredients are iron oxides and micas, (for pigment) and titanium oxide (for opacity), which are all pharmaceutical grade inert minerals. | | Organic Skin Care: A Beginner-Friendly Guide | | 2008-06-08 21:53:24 | | The trend these days is toward going organic and healthy in all aspects of life. And with good reason! Using natural products in your home is good for the environment and good for you. One of the best ways you can care for yourself naturally is by using organic skin care. Organic skin care products are superior to standard skin care in many different ways. Most standard skin care products are filled with chemicals and other ingredients, and some experts are now saying that we can't be sure what kind of effect they may have on our skin over time. Considering the fact that many skin care products include aluminum and formaldehyde, it makes sense to look for a better alternative. Instead of exposing your skin to products that may be harmful, why not replace your regular products with organic ones? Organic skin care products don't contain those chemicals and support more natural forms of farming and product creation. | | Wallaby Organic Yogurt | | 2008-05-30 19:54:00 | | I was replenishing my stock of Fage 2% (Greek strained yogurt) today and noticed Wallaby Organic Yogurt on sale. There's so many new yogurts around, a good thing since our standard American brands don't cut it for me, and since I tried Siggi's Skyr (Icelandic style yogurt) last time, I figured I should give this Australian style yogurt a try as well.I bought 4 flavors from their Organic lowfat line (I'm not into nonfat yogurt, you just need a little fat) and they were delicious. The flavors were very natural, which makes sense if you look at the clean ingredient list, and of course, organic is a plus. These yogurts are not as thick as Fage but certainly creamy with great mouth feel. They are less filling so they work as quick and healthy snacks. I do whole heartedly recommend them, at least the two flavors I've tried so far, Blueberry (like a smoothie) and Banana Vanilla (nice and light). | | By: FoodMayhem | | |

| | Network Marketing The Organic Way | | 2008-05-10 14:49:00 | | **By: The LegendNetwork marketing is, or should be, organic by definition. After all, it comes about as a natural product, or byproduct, of normal actions of you, the network marketer. Like most things organic, it might benefit a little from some planting, fertilizing and removal of parasites.A genuine "network marketer" is concentrating more on the network than the marketing side of the equation. Many of the sales made by network marketers come more often from the trust and relationship the buyer has with the marketer rather than from the perceived qualities of the product itself. Make no mistake here, a good product at a reasonable price can influence a lot of potential buyers, but the trust in the seller will have a lot more to do with success, all other things being equal. This brings up a point for those interested in getting into a network marketing program, but who are afraid of having to "sell" things. If done properly, the major "job" of the network marketer is to continually e | | By: I Make Money Online by Telling People How Much Mon | | |
| | Organic Food History and Current Trends | | 2008-05-10 06:55:47 | | Farming practices used before the 1900's are classed as organic. It was only after this that added chemicals such as urea and DDT were brought into farming - previous to this, farmers didn't have the knowledge and simply put, were happy enough with things as they were; as most of us today would be. After all, home grown food is often the nicest, most tasty food we put on our plates. For some reason, during the 1960's and 1970's the concept of organic food became a separate entity to the 'normal' food we were then buying. Consumers had been effectively duped into believing that what they were buying, was food as nature intended, it not appreciating that the chemicals which were added during growth of the 'normal stuff' were what actually made the food abnormal in the first place.Rachel Carson, a prominent writer, biologist and ecologist established public awareness of these issues via 'Silent Spring', a book she wrote which basically brought about major controversy on the use of agricult | | By: Health Articles - Information on Health, Health Ca | | |

| | | Warning: Two Ways of Killing Your Organic Rankings in Google | | 2008-04-30 10:14:00 | |
There is some debate
about how much Google uses the clickthough rate of the organic listings to
affect where you are listed.
However, with two recent examples for our
clients giving demonstrable results, one dramatic and one less so, I certainly
believe that the clickthrough rate is used for determining your position on a
page.
In our dramatic example, a UK based
holiday company gained a Google Local Map result attached to their listing.
Unfortunately it was not their map listing, but some random hotel in the USA. As a
result, they experienced a dramatic slide off of page 1 for the majority of
their search terms over a period of 1 to 2 weeks. As nothing else had changed,
the only explanation for this is that the US
address put UK
based searchers off clicking on their link. (Thanks Google, that error is a
pain to fix).
The second site is one that has good
organic rankings for a competitive phrase, and is on the first page, but does
not seem to be able to move higher. Despit | | By: Sonicatu

| | | Why You Should Consider Natural Baby Shampoo And Organic Shampoo for Your Kids | | 2008-04-17 08:32:45 | | Instead of serving your children cereal for breakfast tomorrow, imagine pouring them a bowl of natural baby shampoo and encouraging them to slurp it up.Okay, you wouldn't actually do that. But these days, some companies are making kids hair care and skin products with such natural and safe ingredients, you really could eat them. And that makes sense. Here's a fact that many people aren't aware of:Up to 60% of what you put on your skin (and on your children's skin) is absorbed into the body. | | Organic Baby Skin Care - Products for Natural Baby Skincare | | 2008-04-03 23:55:00 | | Organic baby products are increasingly popular with new parents who worry over environmental safety or the effect of chemicals on baby's skin and overall health. Even the consumption of infant lotions and powders are not recommended with a regular tub, as they can induce rind irritations to a baby’s susceptible rind. Many infants and old babies sustain from arid rind still when moisturizer are used as they are not kept hydrated. Similar to adults, infant rind maintenance relies on domestic moisture and insuring they have enough to drink will greatly better their rind character. As the kid grows old and is taken swimming in a pond or in salt water, the chlorine and salt should never be allowed to dry on their rind. Baby rind is really susceptible and can be stressed from slim factors. Baby rind has flawed exempt structure and is brief of self-resistance and security capacity from foreign irritations and strain. Only 4.4%.What's the difference between how the chickens are raised?Organic chickens must have "access to outdoor ranges and pasture, with an emphasis on enabling the animals to express their natural behaviour." | | The Advantage Of Organic Food | | 2008-04-03 09:14:55 | | With more and more attention being given to the effect diet can have on our bodies, it is inevitable that the question should arise as to whether or not there is a particular advantage of organic food. Organic food enthusiasts will report – without hesitation – of their increased energy and overall health and vitality. As we explore the correlation between our diets and our longevity and health, it stands to reason that we must also explore the possible advantage of organic food. The definition of organic food lies in the manner in which the food is grown and processed. Organic food is that food which is not exposed to chemicals of any kind during its growing, manufacturing, processing, or packaging. Organic fruits and vegetables are grown without the use of pesticides and are preservative-free on every level. Organic foods are more nutritious.Nutrient levels were studied in 236 matched pairs of foods with scientifically valid results on the levels of 10 nutrients, plus nitrates (high levels are undesirable because of food safety risks). Each matched pair contains, for example, an apple crop grown organically and another apple crop from a nearby conventional farm with similar soils, climate, plant genetics, irrigation systems, nitrogen levels, and harvest practices.Comparing Nutrient LevelsThe team identified eight or more valid matched pairs for 10 nutrients, plus nitrates including:Four measures of antioxidant activity;Precursors of three vitamins A, C and E;Two minerals (phosphorous and potassium);Nitrates (higher levels are undesirable), andTotal protein. | | By: Whole Food And More | | |
| | Permaculture - Looking at Organic Gardening and Humans | | 2008-04-02 08:08:32 | | If asked to describe Permaculture as a system one would say it is a philosophy of using the land based upon the natural energy patterns and material flows from within nature. As a system It is one of the most holistic, analysis and design methodologies in our the world. Permaculture is not limited to an exact method of production, more so it is a "land use planning" philosophy of which the principles may be adapted worldwide to farms, homes, individual neighborhoods, and cities. It is site specific as such adaptable to local micro-climates, cultures, and techniques of production. The Father of the Organic Farming movement, Sir Albert Howard, was known for making logical solutions for farming problems. He focused on encouraging the incorporation of plant wastes and both human and animal manures into composts for soil conditioning. As we know today, this can be used safely to restore soil fertility. It also makes more sense than using expensive chemical fertilisers. In 1978 Bill Mollison a | | By: Home and Garden - Information on Gardening, Garden | | |
| | Organic Cleaning - It Can Change Your Life | | 2008-04-01 21:08:34 | | There was a time in the not too distant past when no one used chemicals to clean. Before World War II, most cleaning products were made from coconut oil or other natural sources. Because the war caused a shortage of these organic sources, cleaning products began to be made out of petroleum. Eventually, this led [...] | | By: Parenting & Pregnancy | | |
| | Desperately Seeking Organic Food in Castle Rock | | 2008-04-01 06:48:37 | | My husband and I moved from Littleton to Castle Rock, Colorado three years ago. We absolutely love the town but during the winter and early spring we find ourselves back in Littleton twice a week to buy fresh organic produce. I am deeply envious of the large Vitamin Cottage that recently opened in Parker and we often go there to stock up on their non-limp produce. But the more I learn about developing a sustainable life the more I become convinced at how ridiculous it is that we drive 15-20 miles each way to buy organic produce and antibiotic free meats. However, I am not willing to give up organic food to eat from my local grocery store just to save on my petroleum use. One may argue that large local chains offer more organic foods than ever before. I agree, they offer more foods with the organic label; however, the strict guidelines for organic labeling are continuously being lowered thanks to the powerful influence of conventional food lobbies. This dilution of the organic label allo | | By: Safe Green Living | | |

| | Why Organic SEO is Better Than PPC | | 2008-03-22 09:53:07 | | Despite the fact that both organic SEO and PPC are part of the same system - Search Engine Marketing, there are a few very basic yet essential factors that distinguish organic SEO from PPC and make it much better than the latter. Some of the benefits organic SEO has over PPC are as follows:It provides long term solutions:Organic search results might be slow in listing the websites, but its listing is a much more stable and long term process. The search listing which appears through organic search is a more permanent one than PPC which generally runs for a specified time span after which it dissolves and disappears. The click through rates is higher:Research proves that the end users too have a tendency of clicking on the organic results more than the paid listings that appear on the search engine result pages. This makes the click through results of organic SEO almost 70% higher than those of the paid search results.Quality Traffic:Since the organic SEO are mostly dependent on keywords, | | By: Internet Marketing - SEO Online Marketing, Interne | | |

| | | Why Choose Organic Foods? | | 2008-03-20 21:08:16 | | Are you concerned that the food you are eating may be harmful to you and your family? With news reports about genetically modified foods, health scares about eating beef, chemicals in foods affecting people's health and the intelligence of children, it's no wonder that many are looking to organic foods as an option. Organic foods differ from most of the products at the grocery store because they are produced without chemicals and additives, some of which may be harmful to our bodies. Organic food is one hundred percent, completely natural. Most organic foods must be certified and pass rigorous tests. Organic farming produces plant and animal foods without the excessive use of chemicals. It focuses on using fertile soil along with a variety of crops to maintain healthy growing conditions which produce a food with more nutrients and fewer chemicals than typical commercial foods. Organic farming prohibits the growing of genetically modified foods, a controversial issue among commercial | | By: Health Care Guide | | |
| | | | | Wine Produced Using Organic Farming Methods | | 2008-03-16 09:17:54 | | Many people want to know what makes organic produce, or more specifically, organic wine, different to the conventional wine we buy on the shelf. Well here you can get a basic idea of what organic winemaking entails. In a wine cellar, the phrase “organic” refers to the fact that there is minimal use of processing and artificial chemical additives in the winemaking process. There are three main aspects to winemaking which are different in organic wine making; the use of yeast, the filtration method and the use of sulphur dioxide.Organic farming methods reduce the need for cultured yeasts, since the natural yeasts remain present in the grapes because no weed killing chemicals or insecticides are used on the vines. Care is taken to keep filtration to the minimum.Sulphur dioxide use is especially important and monitored accordingly, although it is near impossible to produce a wine that will keep well without the minimal addition of sulphites, since the naturally produced sulphites are ju | | By: Health Articles - Information on Health, Health Ca | | |
| | Organic Profits | | 2008-03-15 08:46:00 | | Often, it seems that people believe buying organic means escaping the world of corporate food. I'm referring to the large corporate food conglomerates that own major brands. Companies such as Kraft, Pepsi, and Conagra. Some folks even seem to head down the organic road simply to spite the big companies. Personally that's a bit too hippy-ish for my taste. Jessica and I try to eat organic food whenever possible; our goal is to avoid processed foods and chemicals. My concern about the relationship of organic organizations and large food processors is whether or not I trust the large companies to allow the organic to truly be organic. This is especially the case when there is no strict definition around the use of the term.I stumbled upon a particularly interesting diagram by the folks at Good Magazine. It illustrates the relationship between well known organic brands like Boca Foods, Kashi, and Dagoba with their infamous corporate lineage. | | The Instant Organic Gardener - How the Procrastinator Can Still be an Organic Gardener | | 2008-03-15 08:31:18 | | You'd like to start your organic garden this year. You have not picked out a spot. You have no compost heap magically decomposing grass clippings, leaves, sawdust, manure, and food scraps into a uniformly black and crumbly paradise for organic vegetables. Not only do you not have it, it will take two to three months to get it if you start right now.Is an organic garden ruled out? Absolutely not! How do you compensate for all the time you wasted back in early February when you should have been thinking about building that perfect compost pile? It's easy! You replace it with money! No, I don't mean to start shredding dollar bills and mixing the results into your garden soil. If you really want to be an organic gardener this summer, but you have missed the boat as far as early preparation, you can replace the time you didn't spend with money you do spend. | | | | Boost your Kids' Immune Systems with Organic Veggies | | 2008-03-10 18:04:00 | | Back in October, I wrote an article favorably reviewing Jessica Seinfeld's new cookbook Deceptively Delicious. This is the "Results" post, so to speak. In the book, Jessica describes how to puree veggies and hide them in your kid's food. While many people criticized the book saying that she copied someone else's idea, and she gave Oprah 21 pairs of Manolos Blahniks for promoting it, I say "Who gives a shit!" It works. I found it to be brilliant and implemented her, or whoever's strategies. The only difference was that I went purely organic. Now this was at a time when my daughter was NOT consuming many (or any I should say) veggies at all. She was in and out of school almost ever other week with one ailment or another, and she would take a tremendously long time to recover. After several months of constant pureeing, and a vitamin supplement to boot, the results are in. I am happy to report that she is rarely sick at all. In fact- and I hope I don't jinx myself, she hasn't been sick al | | By: I Dream of Greenie | | |
