    English language overhaul
    2008-06-08 16:49:00
There is currently talk about the biggest overhaul of the English language in our history. Many academics are aghast at the thought of scrapping silent letters and making words that are all pronounced the same for the first time ever being spelt the same. English is a successful language because of its adaptability. It is constantly changing and growing and what a few years ago was considered poor education today is incorporated into the current dictionaries. Words like 'all right' can now be used as 'alright.' This latest gem however is much more radical as it is being suggested that many words will be spelt differently. If the English language reformists are genuine about this overhaul then surely it would make sense for the whole of the English speaking world to be included. Perhaps it is time for English to be unified so that, no matter which country we live in the language would truly be universal!

    A failed UI overhaul
    2007-09-26 01:02:00
stevekwandotcom software/ui A failed UI overhaul (September 25th, 2007 - 4:02PM) The other day, my mother told me that she noticed I hadn't updated my website in a while. Bearing in mind that my mother rarely visits the site, this is awfully disturbing news. After all, if she thinks I'm not updating enough, then I'm definitely not. The other night I attempted to overhaul stevekwan.com's UI. Some preliminary user testing revealed that almost everyone preferred the current design, so I've stuck with it. There are a few changes I'd like to make - in particular, removing the ability to comment - which will clean up the interface. Richard mentioned that I should explain the importance of comments on this site. I don't view stevekwan.com as a Web 2.0 site. This isn't a community. Although I'd love to hear your feedback, I ultimately don't feel like user comments are an important part of this site. If you want to publish content, get your own blog. There are plenty of other com

How to Survive a Category and Permalink Overhaul on your Wordpress Blog
    2007-07-07 09:44:51
Copyright © Dosh Dosh (http://www.doshdosh.com) I’ve recently changed the permalink structure for Dosh Dosh and reorganized the categories for my articles. The whole process involved almost every post on Dosh Dosh and led to a large amount of 404 error pages showing up on this site. This short article details the plugins I’ve used to go through the whole task of renovating my category and permalink structure. I thought it’ll be useful to share my experience of the process. SEO-Friendly Permalinks for Wordpress Before the permalink change, I was already running what Wordpress Codex calls pretty permalinks, or permalinks with descriptive text instead of just numbers and ids. Pretty permalinks allow you to have keywords in the URL and some have suggested that this could possibly improve your search engine rankings. I was previously using /%category%/%postname%/ as my permalinks and redirected them to the shorter /%postname%/ format because I found that my old URLS were

By Donna SmithWASHINGTON (Reuters) - Leading U.S. senators reached an agreement on Thursday on immigration reform that would strengthen U.S. borders and grant lawful status to millions of illegal immigrants, a deal that could lead to a major legislative victory for President George W.
