Olympus Zuiko Digital 25mm 1:2.8 Pancake Review
    2008-06-24 08:12:00
The Olympus Zuiko Digital 25mm F2.8 Pancake lens was announced in March 2008 to coincide with the E-420 ultra-compact DSLR, and occupies a unique position in the current market as the only fixed focal length ('prime') lens which is bundled as a kit with a camera body. In this it harks back to the 1980s heyday of the classic manual focus 35mm SLR, when cameras were supplied with 50mm F1.8 (or similar) lenses as standard, with which budding photographers learned their art. That 25mm focal length also corresponds directly to 50mm on the 35mm full-frame format, offering the same diagonal angle of view; this is therefore of the 'standard' class of lenses, offering none of the perspective distortion which is characteristic of wideangle or telephoto lenses. The word 'Pancake' in the lens's title offers a clue to its most striking physical characteristic; it is extremely thin (just 24mm, or less than 1") and extremely light, making it the perfect complement to Olympus's E-4x0 class bodies as an

Review : Olympus Zuiko Digital 25mm pancake lens
    2008-06-08 23:54:00
The Olympus Zuiko Digital 25mm ‘pancake’ lens is an ideal general-purpose lens for any Four Thirds owners who value portability. It is first and foremost really very small, measuring 64mm in diameter and just 23.5mm thick. This makes it considerably slimmer than any other Olympus lens, and is almost one third the length of the already compact 14-42mm kit lens. It’s also very light at 95g, or half the weight of the 14-42mm.Fit the 25mm pancake onto one of the Olympus E-4xx series bodies and you’ll have yourself a seriously small DSLR kit that won’t place a burden on any bag, and that will actually squeeze into larger coat pockets. Indeed while the combination remains bigger than enthusiast compacts like the Canon PowerShot G9 or Sigma DP1, it’s sufficiently manageable for many to consider it as their ‘pocketable’ go-anywhere camera. The E-5xx series are obviously bigger, but they’ll also benefit from the 25mm pancake’s compact dimensions, transforming them into small

Hands-on with the Olympus E-420: Pancake day
    2008-05-02 08:36:00
The Olympus E-410 was our Editors' Choice of cameras last year, and the E-510 was our travelling companion around CES earlier this year. We didn't think it was possible for entry-level dSLRs to get much lighter on their feet, but Olympus has pulled a rabbit out of the hat with the E-420, a teeny-tiny dSLR that gets even nimbler with the addition of a dinky pancake lens. The E-420 is a 10-megapixel camera that weighs a mere 440g. One-handed operation is no bother at all, and at 130 by 91 by 53mm, it practically nestles in the palm. Sure, small SLRs aren't everyone's teacup, but there's no denying the portability of this little fella.Images are raw or JPEG, recorded to CompactFlash or xD picture card. An optical pentamirror viewfinder gives 95 per cent coverage, while live view is available on the 69mm (2.7-inch), 230,000-pixel screen. As with higher-end models such as the E-3, live view now allows for what-you-see-is-what-you-get real-time previewing of shooting tweaks like depth of fiel

    Gluten-Free Spinach-Onion Dosa (Pancake)
    2008-04-30 17:14:17
Wheat flour is a major ingredient in indian cooking, and as I enjoy baking, I am constanly making cookies, muffins and cakes with all-purpose flour too. So this weekend, I had an urge to make something gluten-free, more as a challenge and a change than anything else, so I decided to make some savoury gluten-free pancakes with gram flour; we actually call them "dosa" or "puda" in local dialect. Its a great way to toss up your favourite veggies into the flour mixture and cook up something special... Please Click the Title for the Full Post

    Pancake Breakfast
    2008-04-20 15:36:00
Today was the fireman's annual pancake breakfast. It was quite a busy morning. The fireman made pancakes, eggs, & sausage. We had about 300 people show up to eat breakfast. We ran out of sausage and eggs 3 times! They went to 2 different grocery stores and cleaned out their sausage supply, and after that was done, we had to go to McDonald's and buy more sausage and eggs. People really ate today.Meanwhile, the ladies of the Fireman, known as "The Fire Angels" sold raffle tickets for the cute little red fire engine pedal car. I think it was so cute!Natalie helped her daddy sell T-shirts/sweatshirts and also helped hand out fire helmets and coloring books to the kids. awwwh, so cute! The fireman recently ordered new helmets, and went with a total new helmet style. Anthony's is unique, so I thought I'd take a picture of it. I think it looks neat. Front side top side Guess Who?We had the local "Queens" come to help, I snapped a cute one of them! You go girls! And last, we have the futur

SAMPLE IMAGES : Olypus E-420 with 25mm f/2.8 pancake lens
    2008-03-21 11:40:00
Alas, good weather did not coincide with the arrival of our Olympus E-420 plus Digital Zuiko 25mm f/2.8 'pancake' lens. The image samples below were taken under cloudy, cold and blustery conditions. All were taken with the E-420 noise filter set to Standard mode. These samples are primarily to demonstrate the 25mm f/2.8 lens, but will be useful in evaluating the E-420 itself. A separate article with ISO range samples is being prepared, so watch this space. We have included un-edited camera JPEGs (Large Fine quality, which is similar to what used to be called SHQ or Super High Quality) as well as the RAW versions of each image. At the time of writing only Olympus Studio 2.1.2 or Olympus Master 2.0.5 are capable of developing E-420 RAW files.Ian Burleymore : fourthirds-user

Baked Family-size Banana and Walnut Pancake - An ideal weekend breakfast or brunch!
    2008-01-06 16:27:24
In the everyday din and bustle of a hectic life, families hardly get time to reconnect. Weekends or holidays are the most cherished times when parents and kids are together. But what's a better way to start the day than by gathering around the table for morning breakfast, right? And here's a perfect family-sized jumbo pancake, which is actually like a cake, so that you don't have to make separate servings for everyone. Instead, just bake a large pancake for the entire family, then slice and serve so everyone enjoys it together! I use bananas and walnuts, as they are my best toppings, besides strawberries and chocolate chips:) But you are free to use any other seasonal fruits like peaches, apples, blueberries or raspberries. Just make sure you use firm fruits rather than the canned syrupy ones because you are going to pop this into the oven, not roast it on the griddle. Serve with a delicious topping of powdered sugar or whipped cream, and a large pitcher of orange juice, or freshly brewed coffee. Who says morning breakfasts can't be fun for the whole family!!Ingredients1/2 stick butter1 cup maple syrup (not pancake syrup)3-4 ripe bananas1 cup chopped walnuts1 tsp vanilla essence2 cups pancake mix (such as Bisquick)1 eggMethodPreheat oven to 350 degrees. Melt butter in heavy 10 inch oven pan (like a cake pan) Brush sides of pan evenly with melted butter. Add maple syrup and let it cool a couple of minutes. Slice bananas evenly over the syrup and cover entire bottom of pan with bananas. Do not slice bananas too thin because they will shrink some during baking. Sprinkle a generous helping of walnuts over bananas.Mix pancake mix with egg, water and vanilla essence, as directed on the packet. Pour batter gently over bananas and spread evenly. Bake in oven about 20-25 minutes until the top browns (like a regular pancake).Remove from oven and let cool 5 minutes. Place a large platter on top of the oven pan, and with one quick motion turn it upside down. Transfer the in

    Dutch pancake
    2007-09-20 02:46:31
Recipe request from Indie at The Synchronicity of Indeterminacy Ingredients:500g flour1 liter milk3 to 4 eggs150g melted butter (or oil)salt1 teaspoon of sugarPut the flour in a bowl, make a whole in the middle and pour in some milk. Stir carefully so that the flour around mixes with the milk. Add more milk, stir and repeat until you have an even batter (i.e. avoid clots).Add the eggs and stir. Then add the melted butter, the salt and the sugar.Heat some butter in a pan, pour 1 to 2 tablespoons of batter in the pan. Turn the pan so that the batter covers the entire bottom of the pan. When pancake is getting dry on top and shows bubbles, turn it. Bake the other side a light brown.Note:This batter allows for many pancakes - you can make less batter as long as you keep the ratio flour/milk at 1/2Pancakes should be made very thin (the complete opposite of the American pancake)Eat the pancake with 'stroop' (the Dutch sirup made from apples/pears), honey or sugar - or maple sirup if you have to...Variations: Bacon pancakes: Same procedure for the batter as above. Put one or two slices of bacon in the pan and pour the batter on top.Apple pancakes: Same procedure for the batter as above. Pour batter in pan and add thin slices of apple on top. Add a little batter on top of the apples so they don't fall off when turning around. If you like sweet/salty you can add some bacon as well. The LAZY VERSION:you can buy pancake mix (but nothing beats freshly made batter)you can of course put everything together in a blender and mix itProduct link:Typically Dutch StuffMY COMMENTS:I love pancakes. The sweet or salty kind. A simple pancake with apples just tastes so good (for breakfast or as an afternoon snack) and puts me straight back to my childhood. If you prefer the 'salty' pancakes (for example with ham/bacon, eggs, cheese etc in them) you would take wheat flour instead of normal flour. You can also mix several kinds of flour and add a bit of beer.

    Pancake , Yummy
    2007-08-13 06:40:00
hi guys, here some tips for cooking pancake To make pancakes: Put a small amount of oil, cooking fat or butter into a pan. Heat until a faint blue haze is seen. It is a good idea to put the pancake mixture in a jug as this will make pouring easier. Pour enough mixture into the hot pan to make a thin layer. Cook quickly on one side until golden brown – lifting the edge with a small knife will help you see if it is ready. Toss or turn and cook on the second side. To toss a pancake: When the pancake is cooked on the underside it can be tossed; however thin pancakes are often better turned. Hold the pan loosely in your hand, keeping your wrist very flexible and flick sharply upwards. With practice it will twist in the air and come down in the pan with the cooked side uppermost. To turn a pancake: Once the pancake is cooked on the underside put a small knife under it and get the knife right to the centre of the pan. Lift carefully and flick over to turn.
