A Green Light for Solar Panels
    2008-07-07 07:45:58
Solar energy is free and plentiful. And it doesn't have to be a bright sunny day in order to harness the power of the sun to electrify our lives. If we can use solar power to energize our laptops and cell phones, even our homes, why not cut down on the energy costs associated with traffic management? PV solar panels can be installed on or near traffic signs to power flashing lights that alert drivers and pedestrians to conditions on the road. Northwest Power LLC, based in Colorado, produces Solar Traffic Signs that will work in cloudy coastal regions, as well as sunnier climes. While out for a weekend run, I discovered one of these devices about 2 miles from my home. On the front of the sign is a cautionary blinking light, signaling a busy intersection ahead. The PV panel absorbs solar energy which is converted into electrical power; a battery is located at the base of the sign. Among the benefits including lower energy costs for the governmental agencies maintaining the signs, i

From Dyson Vacuum Cleaners to Solar Panels Powered Cars
    2008-07-02 10:39:23
I filled up my car with gas this morning and had one of those déjà vu moments. Waiting my turn in a line of ten cars, I was transported back thirty years to the gas lines of the last energy crisis. This morning I saw the same grim desperation in the faces of motorists jockeying for position at the pump. I felt a little desperate myself as I shelled out a king’s ransom for half a tank of gas. Here we go again, I thought. The squeeze is on. At least one man I have faith in is working on the problem. Britain’s most famous inventor, Sir James Dyson, of Dyson vacuum cleaner fame, is now turning his considerable talents to the development of a solar powered electric car by using solar panels. Traditionally, electric cars, although quiet and pollution-free have been slow—around 30mph—due to the fact that batteries powerful enough to produce speed, and compact enough to not take up all the space in the car, could not be developed. Automakers from Detroit to Tokyo are working on th

Mandatory solar panels in German town of Marburg
    2008-06-28 18:47:09
The central German town of Marburg is the first in German to make solar panels mandatory for almost all rooftops of private and commercial buildings. The controversial new law requires a solar panel for every new building and every old building that is being renovated. The historical buildings such as the Marburg Castle, Marburg's City Hall, and the Elisabeth Church will be exempt from the requirement. The solar law was approved by the town's council on June 20, and will take effect Oct. 1. According to the law, a 1 square meter (10 square feet) panel must be installed for every 20 square meters (200 square feet) of surface area. Installing the panels could cost homeowners up to €5,000 ($7,800). The cost would be paid off through savings in energy bills over a 15-year period, the town's mayor, Franz Kahle, said. Those violating the law will face fines starting at €1,000 ($1,500). The town is home to Marburg University and has about 80,000 residents. Most of the residents support t

Replacing Lattice Panels around the Proch
    2008-06-23 23:49:00
This weekend we started the lattice project, taking the very green, old and warped panels down, replacing them with new white ones. The previous owners were lovers of Green and had their perfectly white vinyl lattice painted (on both sides) and plenty of overspray got on the studs..., so it's a paint job as well.

Solar Panels Revenue in 2007 was $21.2 billion
    2008-06-05 08:43:00
Photovoltaic, originally uploaded by Schwarzerkater. After more than three decades of research and development of solar panels, shingles - PV tiles and other photovoltaic devices the revenue reached $21.2 billion, last year. That is not really an amazing result, judging by the global threat of climate changes and global warming. The company Lux Research predicts that the solar panels revenue will reach $71 billion in 2012.Business situation is getting more and more challenging for smaller photovoltaics companies. Companies simply need to focus on constant fast growth to reach the scale, which allows them to stay competitive.Business Merger is the most viable solution to achieve a very fast company's growth. We could expect much higher activity in the field of renewable energy sources and solar power after American Presidential elections.

Solar Panels are constantly getting more popular
    2008-05-28 16:10:42
Arrays from the right, originally uploaded by Mike Weston.More and more Solar Panels are being installed worldwide, every year. The good news is that the efficiency rates of solar photovoltaic devices are constantly increasing and that the prices are constantly on their way down. What a good news if we compare it with the constantly growing oil prices.About 80% of all solar panels this year are going to be installed in Germany.p.s.We also should never forget about the vast surface of our empty roofs, which are just waiting to be populated by Solar Shingles - Tiles or Solar Panels. The future of Renewable Energy is bright.Photo by Mike Weston Thanks!

Q-Cells bets on Renewable Solar Power and Solar Panels
    2008-05-14 13:44:00
Following video is one year old and is promotion material of Q-Cells company from Germany. Q-Cells is one of the biggest world producers of silicon based solar (photovoltaic) cells. The company constantly improves their range of products by increasing efficiency rates of their solar cells and reducing the quantity of silicon and other materials - reduction of cell thickness. Only constant improvements of solar PV cells could make solar powered photovoltaics technologies competitive to other energy sources. The future (present) is bright for endless solar power, which is coming to our planet absolutely free of charge and free of tax and import duties, such as ultra expensive oil.

Solar Panels are very useful, yet Solar Shingles are more elegant
    2008-05-04 06:26:00
The easiest, the fastest and the cheapest way of applying solar photovoltaic technology to produce green electricity for your home or you business is by installing solar panels. You can place them, where ever you have enough free space, which is protected against any (sun) shadows, which could considerably lower the power output of these sun collectors.I am particularly fond of using vast space of our empty roofs for harnessing endless and free solar power. If there is a chance to use a roof, go for it. If you live in the highly populated city, there is less chances for placing PV solar devices in any free piece of your land and the use of your roof is the only solution.I admit, there are case, where the placement of solar panels directly affects their efficiency rate. In that case it is wise, if you place them to the appropriate pre-designed frame. That is mostly a static, firm, metal frame, which is meant to be fully functional for the next 20, 30, even 50 years.Truly optimal positio

Is that 'Terrorist Behaviour' of Dominion Virginia Power about ignoring community's Solar Power Panels?
    2008-04-23 03:30:00
Such a behavior sucks! This Power production and distribution company from Virginia, USA, represents a direct threat to national security of USA!Have security agencies recognized such a behavior as a Terrorist Threat to National Energy Security, yet?Have security agencies done anything considering enforcement of American energy independence?Have federal agencies confiscated property of the first responsible person (GM, CEO, etc.) and of the company, which possesses direct threat to national security in omitting use of Free Solar Power and to protect the property and investments of its own citizens, who are concern about country's energy dependence to oil at $116?Energy is a vital part of any civilization. It is a vital part of modern American society.Energy could also represents a great threat to National Security, if omitted in any way! This video tells more than enough! The price of oil is at its record level of $116 per barrel and that is a great threat to National Economy and to Nat

The spanking new Acne Studio in NYC's Soho has been generating considerable chat over the past week and rightly so, I feel, when I pore over these delectable images so representative of the Swedish brand's Scandinavian quiet cool. The store or, if you would rather 'studio', now occupies the place where another vein of quiet cool, albeit of a more dark and stern nature, once resided, that of Plokhov's Cloak.I include Q+A with creative director Jonny Johannsson courtesy of Refinery29...How long ha

    Fillets and Panels
    2008-03-22 20:55:20
Got to actually get some work done today. Started off by adding fillets (epoxy and fiberglass tape joints) between what will be the bottom of the sheer clamps and the hull sides. This seemed to work very nicely. The fiberglass tape wetted out well and it was easy to do. I used the "ziploc bag" epoxy application method where you put the epoxy in the bag and clip a corner off and use it like a pastry/baker's decorating tube. Laid down a nice bead. Smooth out with a plastic spoon and away you go. Dane was a big help cutting the fiberglass cloth tape for each section. After we got tired of that, I moved to the box. Put one of the two bow panels in place... I'm all the way to the front on one side! After dinner picked up a few odd supplies from Home Depot... some more adhesive, and some putty knives. I had a plastic putty knife that I have been using to spread and apply some of the epoxy... worked great until I forgot it and let it set up in the nearly empty cup of epoxy. Time to replac

Me too: SEAT manufacturing plant also installing photovoltaic panels on roof
    2008-01-29 08:19:08
SEAT (a brand that belongs to Volkswagen) has announced the installation of photovoltaic panels on the roof of its Martorell (near Barcelona) factory in Spain. The company expects this move will save up to 11,700 tons of CO2 from being released to the atmosphere. The panels have a power of 8.5 MW and are expected to produce 11.2 GWh per year. The panels will be installed gradually. First, the corporate building and the vehicle storage yard will get them, but the plan is to extend them over the production lines, covering up to 206,000 m2. Not far away, in El Prat de Llobregat, is where Nissan installed solar panels as well. The Spanish government is currently giving subventions to big industries for such installations, where large surfaces are available.[Source: SEAT (link is in Spanish)]

Nissan Install Solar Panels on Spanish Plants to Save CO2
    2007-06-11 19:09:00
In an effort to both save some euros off the electricity bill and some CO2 from hitting the environment, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd, will install 606 solar panels at its Barcelona (Spain) vehicle plant by the end of this summer. which will cover a surface of 3,000 square-metres and generate 308,000 kWh of electricity per year, which helps them reduce CO2 emissions by 110 tons.Nissan is also installed a similar layout on its other plant in Spain, in Ávila this summer, 732 solar panels resulting in savings of 267 tons of CO2 emissions every year. But not only Spain is getting renewable energy to power the plants, Nissan is also using renewable energy at its Sunderland vehicle plant in the UK, where it has erected six wind turbines good for 5 percent of the plant's electricity which cuts CO2 emissions by 3,300 tons a year. These interventions are being held under Nissan's Green Program 2010, which expectations are to lower CO2 emissions 7 percent from 2005 levels.Recent Posts:+ Ford C-MAX Sp
