The Florida Panther’s released the regular season schedule today for the upcoming 2007-2008 season. The schedule looks balanced and fair (direct quote from JM). The Panthers, will celebrate their home opener Oct. 6 against the New Jersey Devils but will open the season two days earlier when they travel to Broadway to play the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. The Rangers will not be the only test early in the season for the Cats as their first 12 games include contests against the Stanley Cup finalist Senators, the rejuvenated Flyers, and the Sabres, Maple Leafs and Lightning.
Here are some key spots to watch on the schedule…
The Panthers will play host to the Rangers the night after Thanksgiving, Nov. 23, at 7:30 p.m. The Flyers, who added Daniel Briere, Kimmo Timonen, Jason Smith and Scott Hartnell, pull into the BankAtlantic twice, Oct. 24 and Dec. 30.
Sidney Crosby and Penguins also travel to the BankAtlantic Center twice – Jan. 8 and March 6.

The Panther’s made a quiet big splash this weekend in free agency picking up pieces they felt fit the mold that the Florida Panthers were trying to build. As free agency continues only a few big names are left on the board as most of the big chips were cashed in over the weekend. Possible Panther target’s such as Todd White, Scott Gomez, Chris Drury and Daniel Briere all went other places in search for the big dollar. I was surprised to read over the weekened how interested free agents seem to be in South Florida. I guess the times of playing for a big name Canadian team has lost it’s luster to the sunny beaches of South Beach.

The Panthers have apparently swung a deal to grab Nashville All-Star Tomas Vokoun. Still wading through the rumors, but this can’t be anything but good for the Panthers. The big price was next year’s first round pick, but whatever. Sure, the price was steep, but it was the right move to make. You have to think JM did quite a nice job with this one. He didn’t panic, stayed cool throughout the deal — and didn’t get desperate and go to Minnesota for Manny Fernandez.
