    About Miss Philippines
    2008-05-08 22:05:00
After establishing a track record in mounting world-class beauty pageants over the last decade, Carousel Productions Inc. decided to reinvent and improve the concept of beauty competitions for the new millennium. Because many people admired and aspired to be a beauty queen, Carousel believed beauty queens would be a good and effective advocate of worthy causes. To give life to this vision, Carousel organized and launched in 2001 the MISS PHILIPPINES and MISS EARTH® Beauty Pageants, two beauty events whose raison d’etre is to have its candidates and winners actively promote and get involved in the preservation of the environment and the protection of Mother Earth. The Miss Philippines-Earth has always been known for its unprecedented regional search for a true Filipina who cares for and helps in the preservation of the environment. Sears Philippines Call Center Complaint
    2008-05-08 13:40:00
I found this article written by a frustrated customer via my Google mail which I had alert for the keywords "Philippines Call Center." This I did so that I can keep up with what's going on with the call center industry in the Philippines. Click on the image, if you have trouble reading the text. The customer, a lady who had a problem with her Kenmore refrigerator happened to reach a call center in the Philippines servicing Kenmore appliances and was extremely disappointed on how she was dealt with.Notable in this woman's complain was how the agents argued with her about her warranty. The agents claim she only had 1 year when in fact she had 5. On her third try to speak with an agent, the customer service rep verified with the marketing department that indeed had a longer warranty.Common mistake? Yes. Avoidable? Definitely. It took three people just to clarify the situation which was just half the battle for the customer.Lesson to be taken: Study the situation first and reasonably argue

Admittedly, Uncle Sam’s legacy seems at times to have swamped the Baroque scenario left by the Spanish conquistadores, but especially at fiesta time the city’s Latin heart still throbs palpably beneath the star-spangled trappings of pop music and fast food. Despite its all-too-manifest shortcomings, Manila remains an indomitably cheerful place, the optimistic charm of its nine million citizens as triumphant as the exuberant jeepneys thronging the streets, even in the face of poverty, housing shortages, b

Bizzare Foods in Philippines and Andrew Zimmern
    2008-04-24 10:10:00
My husband and I watched travel channel and one that we liked most is when he went to Philippines and ate “balut” and we did even record that episode. I am fan of Andrew Zimmern, he is cool as he has guts to eat food which is bizarre, I salute him! Since I am a Filipino, I liked that he went to Philippines and experienced how Filipino live, taste our delicies or food that we have. You can see the video below which he went to Palawan where my husband and I been to together with my best friend. Palawan is such a nice place to go to, it is remote area but it has a lot to offer as Palawan is known nowadays since the “longest navigable underground river in the world” is there which is located in Sabang Palawan, Philippines. “Watch the video if you want to know the bizzare food in Philippines”

    BPO Philippines Information Directory Service
    2008-04-10 20:51:00
From months now, I have been thinking of ways on how I could help readers of this blog more than by just blogging. Yesterday while I found myself unable to sleep for unknown reasons, I went online and logged on to godaddy.com. I found a very good deal of 99 cents for a dot info domain. Suddenly, I find myself buying two generic names for no apparent reason. Then as I concluded the purchase, it suddenly occurred to me that this might be the idea I'm looking for.My next project is to build my own BPO and Call Center Directory in the Philippines. One that is more comprehensive than already established company directories. It will contain the latest company info, contact details, recruitment channels, company standing and many more. The unique things I want this Philippine BPO directory to have are feedbacks and ratings from actual employees! This will provide the depth of information that people will be reading about and will hopefully convince them to apply at your call centers or BPO co

Gerry Penalosa, Rey Boom Boom Bautista, AJ Bazooka Banal, & Ciso Morales: Filipino Boxers Win at Invasion: Philippines vs. The World!
    2008-04-06 19:49:23
Congratulations to World Boxing Organization (WBO) Bantamweight Champion Gerry Peñalosa who successfully defended his belt against Thailand’s Ratanachai Sor Vorapin! Gerry staged the successful defense in Golden Boy Promotions and ABS-CBN’s “Invasion: Philippines vs The World” boxing event held at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City. Dubbed as the best technical fighter among Filipino boxers, the 35-year-old Gerry Peñalosa won with a scintillating finish in the 8th round! The referee stopped the fight with 29 seconds remaining in the 8th round! The face of the 31-year-old Ratanachai Sor Vorapin was bloodied and all - brutal! Gerry Peñalosa knocked down the challenger from Thailand twice, i.e., in the fifth and seventh. A series of combinations nearly knocked Ratanachai Sor Vorapin down in the 5th round - sending him down on his knees. However, the tough Vorapin put his arms around Gerry Peñalosa's waist to break his fall and all. And truth be told, Ratanachai Sor

“Invasion – Philippines vs The World”
    2008-04-04 15:19:00
This weekend, Pinoy boxing will once again showcase its pugilistic talent in a loaded promotion that features Philippine boxing prospects and champions. The promotion is headlined by WBO bantamweight champion Gerry Peñalosa who will face former world champion Ratanachai Sor Vorapin for the second time.Peñalosa defeated Sor Vorapin by KO in their first meeting but will he able to to beat him again to defend his title? We'll find out this weekend. Sor Vorapin will not enter Philippine territory to lose. I expect him to be hungry and wary of committing the same mistakes against Gerry.Filipino boxing prospect, AJ Banal will also face another test when he battles Caril “El Raton” Herrera. Herrera is an undefeated fighter out of Uruguay with an impressive record of 21-0, 13 KO’s. However, a quick look at the quality of his opponents show that Banal will probably be his toughest opponent yet. Nevertheless, on paper he seems like a fine opponent for AJ Banal.Rey "BooM Boom" Bautista co

It seems they've already finished their open house last week and are currently hiring for associate positions first. They haven't been publishing yet in Jobstreet. I've checked out EXL Service Philippines company profile and they have posted a single darn job opening online.Based on a popular Pinoy call center forum thread, they are actually encouraging interested applicants to apply at their recruitment office at Makati. Their address is listed below. You can also check out their Jobstreet profile and the EXL Service website to find out more. Crucifixion In Pampanga, Philippines
    2008-03-21 20:56:34
I was about to leave yesterday to witness the crucifixion in Pampanga, town province of the country Philippines, but I rather stay at my retail business because I badly needed big sales. Although, I have seen that before in the province of Calumpit, Bulacan, I still would want to see it again to take videos. I will do that next year. Most of the population in the Philippines are Roman Catholics. Some people want to be crucified as part of their penitence. They repent by crucifying themselves. Now,

Text Congestion Not Only a Problem in the Philippines
    2008-01-05 18:32:00
Apparently, it's not only us, Filipinos, that experience text congestion problems when sending text messages during the Holidays. In the US, there have been reports of network congestion last New Year. I don't know whether the Big 3 networks have expanded their network or just that more people sent their text messages earlier but there were no reports of network congestion in the Philippines last new year. While network congestion is not something new to us, it is something new in the US to merit a news article from AP. Now I know that we're usually way behind the US when it comes to technology, take the HD format wars for example, a lot of people probably haven't heard of High Definition discs here but when it comes to cell phone technology, we are way ahead than Americans. It has only been last year that Americans have started getting on the cell phone wagon with cell phone users almost doubling and while mobile banking is way so 2 years ago here in the Philippines, it is only being launched now in the US. Hmmm, all I can say is, knowing Americans, they would probably have this sorted out and this incident won't repeat itself next year which is something I can't say with regards to cell phone networks here (Yes, I mean you, Smart, Globe and Sun).

    Sending Money to Philippines
    2008-01-03 07:32:00
One of the first ordeals of Overseas Filipino Workers is how to send money to the Philippines. There are a couple of ways to do it. It is sometimes troublesome for some countries, especially here in Japan, where banking laws are probably the most unique in all countries and where the government is very strict about sending money abroad. Some of my suggestions vary from different countries.1. The usual bank-to-bank transaction. This type of transaction is probably the most common for some especially for those who have been sending through the use of this transaction for a long time being already. Sender either needs to have a local currency account from the country where the sender is situated. In some cases, bank-to-bank transaction require foreign banks to have a partner bank in the Philippines. This means that not all banks can execute a bank-to-bank foreign transfer. Check for local listings on your banks. Disadvantage of this transaction is that it may take several days for the money to be cleared before the recipient receives or can withdraw the money in Philippines.2. Door-to-door. This type of transaction is probably the cheapest in terms of bank charges. A Philippine branch here in Tokyo offers this service and the only disadvantage of this transaction is that it takes more time than bank-to-bank transfer.3. Inter-branch deposit. A Philippine-based bank which has a branch in your area may probably the fastest and most convenient way. Charges may just be the same as with other transactions but this is the fastest way to send money between banks since it only takes several minutes for your money to be transferred to a Philippine-based savings or ATM account.4. Money transfer companies like Western Union can be more faster but their charges are costlier than other. It also depends on the country where you live. Taking my case as an example, there are only two (2) Western Union outlets here in Tokyo and it is very far from my location. So it is kinda inconvenie

Cebu City, Philippines - The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
    2008-01-02 19:11:00
By Patrick McgrainA tourist visiting Cebu City for the first time may well be turned off by some of the city sites. The city has several world class resorts, hotels, beaches and dive sites. It also has some areas of the world's most devastating poverty. Cebu City is the capital city of the Cebu Province and it is the second largest city in the Philippines following Manila. I always feel at home in the city and lived in the city before building my home in the rural Cebu Province of Camotes Islands. Cebu City is a mix of the old and new, rich and poor, good and bad and pretty and ugly. There is also the mix of clean and really dirty or filthy. The rule for anyone going to Cebu for the first time is to not make a snap judgment. My first trip to Cebu City was in February 2004. I went to the Philippines to meet a girl (Judith) now my wife. I flew into the Cebu-Mactan Airport and was met by Judith and one of here sisters. My flight started in Florida and the last leg of the flight was from Hong Kong. The Cebu International airport is just a little outdated, but very functional. Once outside of the airport doors I saw waves of people waiting to meet people coming off of the flight from Hong Kong. The airport was not all that busy when I arrived and I think my plane was the only arriving flight at the time. As people from my flight walk outside of the airport door they were bombarded with shuttle, taxi and V-hire greeters, all trying to get a fare. I met Judith just outside the airport doors. She, her sister and I all jumped into an old Kia Taxi and we were off to my hotel. The taxi was old and not very well maintained. The Air conditioner didn't work and the window wouldn't go down. Of course that didn't matter as I couldn't close the door because the door latch was broken. So, I got lots of air. The hotel was about a 30 minute drive from the airport. As we traveled the city streets I saw crowded sidewalks made even more crowded by the many sidewalk vendors and street v

Debt Consolidation Much Needed In The Philippines
    2007-12-28 11:59:00
With the steady increase of people unable to cope up with credit card debt in the Philippines, I'm surprised to see debt consolidation not take off in the country. Most people ( a good percentage of call center employees as well ) end up ignoring correspondence from card companies and their legal representatives because there's really no significant consequence if one just throw them mails in to the trash bin without opening them. Unlike in the U.S., there's really no credit report or history to hold valuable. In simple terms, nobody goes to prison because of credit card debt in the Philippines.Nonetheless, we would've seen more people diligently paying their debt if the country had an alternative way of dealing with debt. In the U.S., consolidating debt is huge business and it helps a lot of people with their finances. Individuals with multiple debt and have a hard time coping with the monthly payments can opt to consolidate debt so they would only pay one bill instead of several

    New Year's day in Philippines
    2007-12-28 07:04:00
New Year's day in Philippines or we say that Bagong Taon, are celebrated at the middle of the night called Bisperas ng bagong taon and celebrated together with the family and lots of food on the table called media noche(counterpart of noche buena) they have round shaped foods, and 12 round shaped various kinds of fruits and which are the most include lechon baboy(suckling roasted pig) at the middle on the table. Before the midnight the fireworks and firecrakers start. The New Year makes our celebration noisy and colorful and full of enjoyment coz the other year come.In the other, there are also practices some people do, which are bring fortune, good luck, prosperity in the new year, some people jump at exactly 12 midnight, as they believed that they will make them grow taller, some people of their house keeping lights on, for more luck

    Bohol Beach Club Philippines
    2007-12-23 16:27:00
I was impressed with the Bohol Beach Club on several levels. First of all, the service is top notch. Somebody has put a lot of effort into training the locals. Anyone who is used to travel in the Philippines can appreciate this. The staff will even run out and fetch a personal fan if they see you sweating. Sweet and helpful. The grounds were well kept, the beach raked, the pathways tended and the rooms clean & adequate with good water pressure another anomoly in the PI.They have 1 pool which is a big one and it is pretty nice and the other is small. The food was great, they have western menu to start but they can make anything you want in the kitchen especially Filipino dishes. I recommend the chicken sinigang and cheese lumpia. The tropical drinks were darn good. Another nice thing is that the Bohol Beach Club is actually Filipino owned. My husband and I stayed here about 4 days and the prices was about $90 and that as on 2005 and I do not know how much at this time and you can sear

Christmas Symbols Capital of the Philippines
    2007-12-23 12:17:00
Christmas Time in Tangub is always celebrated with great merriment and colorful activities. This is possible because of the one of a kind display of indigenous and low cost giant Christmas Symbols at our city plaza and highway barangays for competition. Today, Tangub City has gained another tagline as the Christmas Symbols Capital of the Phils.” Recent reports from the Department of Tourism indicated that Tangub City is included in their calendar of activities as one of the tourism destinations in the country during the “Christmas Season. Foreign and local tourists came in by busloads every night in order to experience and witness these yearly festivities in a very native setting. A dramatic increase of our tourist arrivals has been experienced. It is perceived that the contributing factors for the influx of the tourists during this year is because of the unique interpretation and presentation of the different Christmas symbols of various shapes & sizes lavishly display
