| Photography - Science Vs Art | | 2008-05-09 09:58:00 | | With the technology available today for even the most amateur of happy snapper to create something and show it on their wall through the use of a camera and the digital darkroom. One question is - When does a photograph become art?Another question could be - What really is a photograph?I tend to go with the opinion that if the technology is available to create something through skill, be that with a camera, or a camera with a computer, then why not take advantage of it.The pioneers did so by adjusting their images with differing chemicals and varying exposure times in the darkroom, long before digital motion blurs and curves were even dreamt of. So is there a difference? As a general rule I would say that if I plan to manipulate an image with the use of photoshop, then this process will be done in an obvious and quite graphic way. Meaning that I am not really a fan of tricking a person into believing that a heavily adjusted image is in fact the truth. The problem lies around the area of | | By: PicStop Blog | | |

| Into Digital Photography? Check out Microsoft Pro Photo Tools V1 | | 2008-05-01 18:17:00 | | Microsoft today has made available a new tool for photographers using Windows for their digital photos: Microsoft Pro Photo Tools V1. This application lets you quickly edit the metadata on digital photos you've shot with your camera - including RAW formats.
Microsoft Pro Photo Tools also allows photographers to use geotagging for their photos. Geotagging is the ability to "tag" something with location information - and in the case of photos the location of where your photo was taken. You can quickly add location data from a GPS device or Live Search Maps to a photo's metadata.
Download: Microsoft Pro Photo Tools V1 (x86)
I use Windows Live Photo Gallery to manage all my photos. I'd like to note that changes in any specific photo' s metadata using Microsoft Pro Photo Tools will be reflected of course in Windows Live Photo Gallery - including title and tags.
You'll see here I've added a title, description, and keywords (aka tags) in Microsoft Pro Photo Tools to one of my photos.

| Best Earning Microstock Photography Sites | | 2008-04-13 22:02:00 | | Let's take a look at the top four sites for earning cash from Microstock photography. There's dozens of other sites to submit to, but if you're just getting started - these four sites will get you making cash quick! They all sell photographs for different prices, offer different commissions, and some sell individual images, while others by subscription.Istockphoto has been around since 2000 and is owned by Getty Images, one of the largest and most reputable royalty-free stock photo agencies out there. Images are sold via credits costing about $1.30 each depending on the amount of credits purchased and the contributing photographer gets 20% to begin with. If you are an exclusive photographer, you can earn up to 40% of the total sale and a medium-sized image (about 2 megapixels) is 5 credits.Shutterstock is one of the larger sites as well and has been around since 2003. | What is Microstock Photography Anyway? | | 2008-04-13 15:25:00 | | Microstock photography is generic commercial images that buyers use for advertising in print and on the web. An example is the picture used in to label this article. The imagery generally includes all things business related and often includes lifestyle and food imagery. Microstock photography typically sells anywhere from $1 - $25 for standard licenses and made by amateur and professional contributors.Photographers sign up for accounts at the numerous Microstock photo agencies such as Istockphoto and list their images for sale. These sites, especially the big ones, have massive traffic and provide a good market for photographers to found. When an image gets downloaded, the photographer then receives a commission of the sale anywhere from 20% - 70% of the purchase price depending on your status and the site your on. Many photographers mirror their portfolio of images to all the major sites and many do this as a hobby to generate a passive income while maintaining their main jobs.Stock | | By: Making Cash in Microstock | | |

| IR Photo Filter Allows Infrared Photography with the Mamiya ZD Digital Back | | 2008-01-16 11:20:00 | | Elmsford NY, January 10, 2008 — Mamiya has announced the release of an IR Photo filter for the Mamiya ZD Digital back."Today‘s CCD sensors are highly sensitive to infrared light," said Jeff Karp, Mamiya Product Marketing Manager, "and the IR Cut filter built into cameras reduces infrared light transmission. The result is more accurate and natural color. The IR Cut filter, however, makes infrared photography impossible. In response to the large number of requests from infrared photographers, especially with the scarcity of infrared film, this filter was created."Mamiya developed the IR Photo Filter for use on the Mamiya ZD Digital Back. The IR Photo Filter YD401 (which replaces the standard IR Cut Filter) is a clear filter that allows the transmission of infrared light as well as visible light rays."Unlike specialized IR cameras or modified systems," states Karp, "the Mamiya ZD Digital Back can be transformed from standard digital to IR digital, simply by changing the user-replaceable sensor filters."Photographers will need to add an infrared filter (89B or 87) on the front of the lens to produce typical infrared images with dramatic dark skies, glowing greens and "magical" skin tones. It is available mid-January 2008. | | By: DSLR CAMERAS ONLINE | | |

| Street Photography: Junk for Cash | | 2008-01-13 00:47:00 | | Man, it's been ages since I last posted. I had a problem with by internet connection. Apparently, my wireless antenna allegedly had a virus infection, so, I wasn't able to connect to the net for 5 days now. Anyway, had my antenna replaced (hope they don't charge me for that), so now here I am photoblogging again.I was driving around Manila when I came across this huge tricycle "pedicab" (almost 1/3 the length of my car) filled with recyclable, "re-sellable", materials. Took this again with my N95. This time I tried taking a black and white photo. I think this is my first attempt in street photography. It's quite exciting. You just never know what kind of emotions, scenes you can capture on the street. | | By: Photography-Per-Diem | | |

| Get close up with macro photography | | 2008-01-11 11:58:00 | | The term "macro photography" confuses many people. It conjures images of large, grandiose photos. In reality, macro shots are closeups of small objects. They're ideal for photographing flowers, insects or collectibles. With macro photography, you see details that are not possible cropping and enlarging portions of regular pictures. Many point-and-shoot cameras tout macro abilities. You can try those cameras' macro settings but they don't provide true macro reproduction. For better results, use a digital SLR.There are many ways to achieve macro photographs. A special macro lens is your best bet. These lenses have a 1:1 magnification ratio. That means the object is the same size on the digital camera's image sensor as in real life.In rare cases, you'll see a lens with a magnification ratio like 2:1. That means the image appears twice as large on the sensor as in real life. But magnification ratios like 1:3 are more common. That means the item being photographed is three times larger in real life than the image on the sensor. Purists don't consider these true macro lenses.more : usatoday | | By: DSLR CAMERAS ONLINE | | |
