| Physician, Heal Thyself | | 2008-07-31 21:00:00 | | The New England Journal of Medicine isn't too happy about the Supreme Court decision affirming an individual right to keep and bear arms. In fact, the journal has a new editorial out criticizing the decision. In it, three doctors write that "closer regulation promotes the public health." The doctors say that there is no constitutional impediment to any kind of "regulation" of firearms. And the doctors believe "logic tells us that fewer restrictions on handguns will result...(read more) | | By: An American Warning | | |

| REVIEW: Physician's Formula Talc-Free Mineral Wear™ Mineral Loose Powder | | 2008-06-10 06:57:53 | | In my past few trips to the drugstore I had been itching to pick this item up. As you all know I am probably the only beauty blogger that HASN'T jumped on the mineral makeup bandwagon just yet. I just have such mixed feelings about it, it's almost like something I am so curious about but I am too much of a punk to try it out. I just for some reason love my regular foundations and their full coverage, and I don't really feel the need to switch. And plus the whole mixing thing and adjusting colors and making a big mess; just does not fit into my busy schedule. But, heck why not give it a try and go on a quest for something that will make me happy, right?! Well while doing research on mineral makeup and reading experiences from my fellow beauty bloggers and editors it seems like a big culprit associated with a bad reaction is the mineral Talc. Don't know why, but a lot of other people have developed reactions to mineral makeup which include talc. One of the most common reactions ass | | By: Makeup Makes Me Happy | | |

| With Lasik Eye Surgery, the Skill of the Physician Performing the Operation is Crucial and Critical. | | 2008-05-19 04:37:00 | | The 'lasik' in lasik eye surgery stands for Laser-Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis. Lasik eye surgery is a procedure using what is called an excimer laser, which permanently changes the shape of the cornea. The cornea is the clear covering of the front of the eye. Before we look at the benefits lasik eye surgery, there are certain people that are not good candidates for this procedure. If you have required a change in your glasses or contact lens prescription in the last year, lasik eye surgery is probably not for you. As a rule of thumb, people that meet certain conditions are considered unqualified for lasik eye surgery. There are people in the early 20's or younger, people with diabetes, pregnant women and people taking medications that cause fluctuations in their vision. [ lasik , eye , surgery ]If however, you do not fit any of the above problem groups, then this might be the best thing that ever happened to your eyes. | The Day in the Life of a Physician | | 2008-04-28 11:42:00 | | It's really hard to grasp what a doctors life is like day to day. There are people out there that make it sound like your personal life is over once you are a doctor. You will have no time for family, friends, hobbies...nothing. It sounds pretty bleak right? I know that shadowing a doctor is supposed to provide a premed with an honest view of what it is like to be an MD, however, I doubt that any shadowing program allows you to go whom with the doc and see what their life is like outside of the hospital. We are made to believe that their entire life is the hospital when in fact we all know that there are doctors who have happy functional fulfilling lives outside of medicine. I grew up not knowing any doctors. I didn't even have a regular pediatrician because we moved around so much, so my idea of what it is like to be a doctor is completely skewed. All I can go by is the advice that has been given to me by adcom members and advisors who all suggest that you are pretty much giving up yo | | By: Middle Age Medical School | | |

| Computerized Physician Order Entry | | 2008-03-10 16:29:00 | | Computerized physician order entry (CPOE) has been a key component of patient safety since the publication of the Institute of medicine’s 1999 report, To Err is Human. This report found that in hospitals throughout the United States, up to 98,000 individuals die each year from preventable mistakes.CPOE is more about clinician acceptance and workflow than it is about software and hardware platforms. But the ability of software and hardware to successfully support the clinician, with dependency and speed, is absolutely critical to support the CPOE effort in a hospital.Seneca Data focuses on providing the best hardware to support CPOE deployments. Our solutions include:- Computers on Wheels (COWS); - Mobile Point of Care Solutions; - Fixed Point of Care Solutions; - Remote Access Solutions.Whether your CPOE project is focused on simply presenting clinical results and other information to medical staff, doing electronic order entry, or both, Seneca Data solutions can support your needs! | | By: Medicines for good health | | |

| Physician Recruiter : Tips To getting jobs | | 2008-02-19 20:43:00 | | Good stuff:One other thing that I strongly recommend is leaving out Objectives and Interests/Hobbies.#1) If you’re a physician and you’ve submitted your CV/Resume you’re probably interested in work as a physician. If that isn’t the case and/or you want to get more specific as to what you’re looking for, the cover letter is a much larger and more appropriate forum to do so.#2) Like it or not, very few employers care if you like SCUBA or reading spy novels or horseback riding or model trains or whatever. There are preconceptions, however, that a lot of people have about activities that are often included in an Interests/Hobbies section of a CV/resume. What if a hiring authority has a negative feeling towards someone/somtehing associated with fly fishing or rock climbing and you’ve included it on your CV? As a recruiter, I’ve seen candidates disqualified for seemingly harmless inclusions simply because of strange prejudices that the hiring authority has against certain inter | | By: online job search | | |

| Physician Job Search Tips: How To Get A Higher Salary | | 2008-02-19 20:38:00 | | Whenever a physician is looking for a job, one of the biggest concerns is usually “how can I get the highest salary?â€In addition to finding a position in the right location, with the right schedule, work environment and growth potential, it is important for a doctor to earn as much money as possible. More specifically, it is important for a physician to have the highest starting salary as possible when accepting a job offer. Where a doctor’s income starts is a good indicator of how far their salary will grow in the years to come. While negotiating a salary package is often the most intimidating part of the physician job search, it is actually the easiest! The best way to receive more money from an employer is to ask for it.It’s really as simple as that.Once a doctor has undergone the interview process and a physician group or hospital has offered a job, the doctor knows that this employer is interested in them! The group WANTS to hire the doctor! The physician now has more contro | | By: online job search | | |

| The importance of grammar for the physician CV and cover letter | | 2008-02-19 20:36:00 | | Recently I received an email solicitation from a company that I know to be a successful, profitable organization. The email went on and on about why I should employ their services. It touted their past success rates, excellent promotions, etc. But I could only focus on one thing: The name of the company was misspelled in several places throughout the email. I couldn’t believe that an error this grievous had slipped through, but there it was. And because of it, I lost a lot of respect for this organization, despite all the impressive facts and figures they threw at me.If the most intelligent, accomplished physician in the world can’t present a well-written CV and cover letter, none of the accolades will mean much to prospective employers. Remember that the employer reading the resume probably doesn’t know anything about this doctor except for what he/she sees on paper. Friends and colleagues might overlook a sloppy email because they know the physician is a brilliant surgeon or in | | By: online job search | | |

| A Gay Friendly Physician Needs to Understand Addiction Treatment | | 2007-11-10 10:29:03 | | There are quite a few physicians that market themselves as “gay friendly” in an effort to attract the LGBT population for the treatment of medical problems. One problem that are sure to see is drug addiction or alcoholism. It becomes their responsibility during any exam to address the drug addiction or alcoholism and offer them a referral to addiction treatment.
Most physicians are not trained in addiction medicine and the LGBT community has a higher prevalence of drug addiction and alcoholism then the heterosexual population. This means the gay friendly physician needs to do their best to assess the patient and refer them on for addiction treatment.
The ideal situation is for the patient to continue to see their primary physician after addiction treatment as there will be a great deal of trust and honesty between the two. This provides for quality healthcare. To find a gay friendly physician or gay friendly doctor, just google the terms or if you feel you suffer from d | | By: LGBT Drug Treatment

Much of what is known about Sushruta is contained in a series of volumes he authored, which are collectively known as the Susrutha Samhita. It is the oldest known surgical text and it describes in exquisite detail the examination, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of numerous ailments, as well as procedures on performing various forms of plastic surgery, such as cosmetic surgery and rhinoplasty. In the Sushruta school, the first person to expound Ä€yurvedic knowledge was Dhanvantari who then taught it to Divodasa who, in turn, taught it to Sushruta, Aupadhenava, Aurabhra, PaushakalÄvata, Gopurarakshita, and Bhoja. | | By: Medical surgery
