| | Is Pininfarina's future in doubt after CEO's death? | | 2008-08-10 08:42:00 | | Even prior to Pininfarina CEO Andrea Pininfarina's untimely death while out riding his scooter, the market for coachbuilt automobiles was shrinking fast. To wit, the Italian car design firm had recently just managed to sign an agreement with its creditors to reschedule the company's debt and is now asking for an extra one-hundred-million Euros from shareholders for future product development. Pininfarina is also planning on designing and building its own electric car using batteries and technology supplied by a French company known as The Bolloré Group. Currently, many questions surround the storied Italian marque. As of today, for instance, Pininfarina is without a leader as the company has yet to announce its next CEO, despite the fact that it is knee-deep in a turnaround plan to bring the company back to profitability. Can the storied design firm and coach-building company survive these tumultuous times without a leader? Time, as always, will tell.[Source: Just-Auto - sub. req'd] T... | | By: Car News | | |

| | Pininfarina creating custom Rolls-Royce Hyperion | | 2008-06-26 08:13:00 | | Pininfarina is working on a new privately-commissioned one-off based on the Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe. Ordered by an as-yet unnamed collector, the vehicle will bear the name Hyperion from ancient Greek mythology and is stylistically inspired by the pre-war Rolls-Royce automobiles.Coachbuilding for individual clients is becoming an important part of Pininfarina's business, as automakers worldwide are outsourcing to independent carrozzerias less than they used to. Following in the footsteps of Peter Kalikow's lightly modified Ferrari 612 K and Jim Glickenhaus' more radical Enzo-based Ferrari P4/5, the Hyperion is anticipated to debut at Pebble Beach in August.[Source: Automotive News Europe – subs. req'd]... | | By: Car News | | |

| | Geneva Show 2008 Highlights: Pininfarina Sintesi Concept | | 2008-03-05 09:06:00 | | Design Director Lowie Vermeersch said to us: "We like cars that are long and low". And the Sintesi is just that. At 4800mm long, it is slightly shorter than a Mercedes-Benz E-class, but at 1280mm it is slightly lower than a Porsche 911. The reason for this is not simply that the Pininfarina design team love long low cars, but because the design is based on 'liquid packaging' - which essentially means that the core technical elements may be separated and positioned all over the car.The Sintesi ha... | | By: My Blog | | |

| | New EV coming from Bolloré/Pininfarina partnership | | 2007-12-21 13:12:00 | | The French Bolloré group and Italian design house Pininfarina have setup a new joint venture to develop and build an electric car. Pininfarina is probably best known as the design studio that has created most of the production Ferraris of the past half century along with cars manufactured by many other companies. Bolloré is an industrial group that participates in a wide variety of businesses including battery development. The French company has developed a new lithium metal polymer battery and hasn't revealed what the chemistry is (but they are emphasizing the fact that there is no liquid electrolyte). The battery is claimed to be very thermally stable and has a combustion temperature of over 200°C, making it safer than other lithium ion battery designs. Working with Bolloré, Pininfarina will manufacture a four-seat EV in Italy starting in 2010. The car should have about a 155 mile range and recharge in about 5 hours from a standard 220V outlet. | | Hot News: Pininfarina to Unveil New Concept Car at Geneva Motor Show 2008 | | 2007-12-17 05:16:00 | | Famed Italian design house Pininfarina has announced that it will be unveiling a new concept at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show in March. Dubbed the Sintesi, the car is the first exclusive Pininfarina concept to be shown since the Maserati Birdcage 75th concept (pictured), three years ago.Lowie Vermeersch, design director at Pininfarina and overseer of the Sintesi concept, states that while functional, sporty, and elegant, the new concept also incorporates innovations in safety, technology, and efficient packaging. Andrea Pininfarina, Chairman and CEO of Pininfarina S.pA. said of the Sintesi, "In Sintesi, we put all our goodwill in looking at the future, first and foremost iThough Pininfarina has not yet released any images of the Sintesi concept, if it's coming from the Turin-based auto designer's doors, we expect to be impressed. | | Ferrari P4/5 Enzo by Pininfarina - Video | | 2007-06-25 20:29:24 | | James Glickenhaus, the owner of the wildly popular P4/5 (a modified Enzo,) talks about his $5 million supercar created just for him by Pininfarina. The video shows some nice shots of the car, him explaining the process of creating the car, as well as James driving it on the street.
James purchased the last unsold Enzo from Ferrari and immediately took it to Pininfarina to recreate a modern version of Ferrari’s P3/4, one of which Mr. Glickenhaus also owns. On top of the $1 million price of the Enzo, James reportedly paid $4 million for the redesign. A small price to pay for such exclusivity, one might say.
Follow the jump for the video…
If nothing else, I have to give him credit for actually driving the car. Many collectors simply let the vehicles sit in their garage, afraid to drive them.
