| What the hell is up with Yankees pitchers in Texas? | | 2008-08-05 10:25:00 | | Why is it that every time the Yanks go to Texas one of their pitchers end up flying home for an MRI?Here are the Yankees pitchers who have gone down in each of the last three trips to the Lone Star State.May 1, 2007 - Phil Hughes tears his hamstring while pitching a no-hitter against the Rangers in Arlington. Hughes didn't pitch for three months.June 15, 2008 - Chien-Ming Wang injures his foot rounding third base in Houston against the Astros, he's most likely out for the year.August 4, 2008 - J... | | By: Sliding Into Home | | |
| | | Keys for the Second Half - Pitchers and Catchers | | 2008-07-17 01:15:00 | | The first half of the 2008 campaign is over and the Cubs posted a 57-38 record, tied for the best in the bigs with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Lou Piniella's crew will begin the second half on Friday in Houston with at least a four game lead over the Cardinals....with the Brewers not far behind. The Cubs must improve on the way they closed out the first 95 games and improve their play away from the Friendly Confines.
The Cubs needed the time off the break afforded them and should come back more energized....ready to play on Friday. Alfonso Soriano is scheduled to begin batting practice this weekend and if all goes well should begin a minor league rehab while the rest of his teammates are in Arizona battling the Diamondbacks. Reports after the All-Star game indicated Soriano is targeting to return on July 24th when the Cubs kick-off their first homestand of the second half against the Florida Marlins.

| | | Brita water filtration pitchers | | 2008-05-14 08:33:00 | | "Last year 16 million gallons of oil were consumed to make plastic water bottles"These ads were put together by the advertising agency DDB out of San Francisco, USA and art director Dustin Smith. The ads get their point across fairly effectively, but it just seems that there is something lacking in them, but I don't know what it is. Maybe it is the expressionless models, I would think you would have a look of disgust on your face if oil was coming out of your mouth.

| Starting Pitchers Slumping Bigtime...Baltimore 5 Boston 4 | | 2008-05-14 04:38:00 | | The starting pitching rotation, which was so hot a week and a half ago, is anything BUT that right now. In four of the last six games, the pitching has allowed at least seven runs and ten hits. That won't help to win many ball games. And Josh Beckett, the Red Sox ace, was not even spared Tuesday night in Baltimore. The Orioles, after staking Boston to a 3-0 lead, their second in two nights, won the game 5-3. Josh Beckett allowed all five earned runs and surrendered a season-high eleven hits, the most of any starter this season. It was certainly not a vintage Beckett outing. He threw 97 pitches in only 5 2/3 innings and had this to say after the game..."The loss definitely goes in the right man's hand tonight," Beckett said. "It's pretty simple. I just didn't execute pitches tonight."That's a good wrap-up, Josh...pure and simple. The bullpen was just fine, thank you, but Boston just couldn't score when they needed to. Manny Ramirez came to the plate in the top of the seventh inning with... | | By: Peter's Red Sox Forever | | |
| | Does Japan Offer A Return Policy For Terrible Pitchers? | | 2008-05-09 22:52:00 | | Bryan Hoch/MLB.Com:Kei Igawa was hit hard and often in his first start of the season, making an early exit as the Yankees dropped a 6-5 decision to the Tigers at Comerica Park on Friday in the opener of a seven-game road trip for New York. Recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to start in place of demoted righty Ian Kennedy, the 28-year-old left-hander continued his struggles at the big league level, recording just two swinging strikes among the 64 pitches he threw over three-plus innings. First things first. Fire the scout that thought it would be a wonderful decision to bring Kei Igawa to New York instead of Matsuzaka.Second, now we all can clearly understand what was pissing Ian Kennedy off. I mean, I guess you really had no choice but to demote him but if I was being demoted so that freaking Kei Igawa could start in my place, I would have said a little bit more about how pissed I was than Kennedy did.Third, bring Kennedy back up, without question. Ouch. Just two swingin... | | By: The Bronx Stop: Just Another New York Yankees Blog | | |
| | | | Theo On Jacoby...Colon Ineffective Against The Yankees...Starting Pitchers Announced | | 2008-03-18 04:52:00 | | Wow, what a full plate today, Tuesday, March 18th. With just about a week to go before the Boston Red Sox head to the Far East, the powers-that-be have announced the early season pitching starters. Daisuke Matsuzaka will make a "home" start in the season opener and Jon Lester will be on the mound for game two. Both games, of course, are against the Oakland A's in Japan. Clay Buchholz and Tim Wakefield will pitch the two exhibition games against Hanshin and Yomiuri Saturday and Sunday. They are also expected to pitch two of the three exhibitions against the Dodgers in Los Angeles March 28-30, with Bartolo Colon working the other. So there you have it, Red Sox Nation and Red Sox International, as well as my Constant Readers. And that's only the beginning.Yesterday, the New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox by a score of 8-3. Colon could not even get out of the first inning, only managing 2/3 of an inning while giving up four runs. Tavarez was almost as bad, pitching the next 3 1/3... | | By: Peter's Red Sox Forever | | |

| | Pitchers and catchers report | | 2008-02-13 14:18:00 | | Today is the day when baseball, in my opinion, officially begins. Maybe pitchers and catchers reporting is about the gayest thing, but it’s still one of my favorite baseball events. It’s not among my favorites because it’s in any way exciting, though the news regarding the Cubs does begin to pick up, which it could only do after the last few weeks. It’s among my favorites because it’s the first day MLB can officially get together to prepare for the upcoming 2008 season.
The Tribune’s Dave Van Dyck has a rundown of the Cubs spring training roster.
Phil Rogers seems to think that Theriot’s urge to â€hit some balls†makes him similar to those who played in the 1930s and 1940s. You know, those who worked harder than they do today.
Paul Sullivan points out the obvious in that Lou will have less tinkering to do this spring/season than he did in his very first year as Cubs manager.

| | Spring Training NRI's....The Pitchers | | 2008-02-11 01:30:00 | | There will be plenty of storylines to keep an eye on this spring and each of those will be discussed in detail over the next week. Position players report one week from today with the first full squad workout scheduled for February 19th. With pitchers and catchers reporting to Fitch Park in two days, the CCO will begin its coverage of Spring Training by taking a look at the pitchers that received non-roster invitations to camp last month.
The Cubs still have holes to fill and baring any possible trades that are rumored to still be on the table, there is always a surprise or two that emerges during Spring Training.

| | | | | Worms, Double Plays, and Pitchers Who Cover 1B: Cubs @ Astros 7:05 CDT | | 2007-09-13 23:00:00 | |
"This type of game really should get us on a roll," manager Lou Piniella said. "You really have to think that the worm has turned. A man on third with no outs? And to get out of that with just a great double play. … You have to feel that things are going to start going your way."
You heard it here first, kids. Lou has declared the worm turned. Suck on that, Milwaukee.
Let's all keep our fingers crossed that the worm STAYS turned with Groovy McFastball (6-10, 4.78) taking the hill for the Cubs tonight (um, why can't we have Sean Marshall again?) against Woody Williams (8-14, 4.93), who appears to be pitching against the Cub at least twice a week.
I still can't really get used to the fact that Steve Trachsel is back in our starting rotation. Or the weird faces he makes during his delivery.
Or the fact that Jim Hendry's big plan to help us get to the postseason was to go out and get Steve Trachsel.
Because most of you have probably blocked out Groovy's last start, let me recap ... | | By: A League of Her Own | | |
