| Comforting and Pokemon | | 2007-07-10 03:40:46 | | I have a friend in Year 10 who I've known for seven years. She's a little thing who reminds me (and everyone else I've ever spoken to) of a mouse. In fact this is quite an inaccurate impression, as once you've built an acquaintance with her you realise how un-mousey she really is. She talks. Chatters. And talks and talks and talks and talks. It's not a bad thing, unless you're in a hurry. It's refreshing to talk to someone without having to make much of an effort to keep the conversation going - she's very good at it. Over the past year or so she's taken to calling me up whenever something goes wrong. For instance, on Friday she called me because she left her iPod Nano in the pocket of her pants, and it went through the wash. Somehow, I think we talked for about an hour. She just keeps conversations going, and it generally takes about 10 minutes just to say goodbye. Most of the girls I know and actually hang around with don't bother with phone conversations. We really only talk in person. On average, five minutes is a long time to be on the phone to them. Elissa is another kettle of fish. We talk for ages regardless of the medium.As I was saying goodbye to Mouse she told me how comforting I was. All I'd done was tell her how slim the chances are that her iPod would ever play again, the price of a new iPod and recommended that she buy an iPod Video rather than a Nano. It's harder to forget where you've put Videos. I think I understand why she calls me all the time now. I used to have no idea.In other news, I bought one of the new Pokemon games on Thursday. Elissa wasn't very impressed, but I was determined to have it. I've been a Pokemon fan since I was a wee thing, when my brother and I would spend the mornings jumping on the trampoline playing make-believe Pokemon games, anticipating the afternoons when we'd be given our Gameboy Colours to play while our two little sisters had their naps. It was the most exciting time of the day. Isn't that sad? Perhaps you can see why Pokemon is so nostalgic for me. I haven't played it in years, so I wasn't sure if it was worth buying the new one - what if I've grown out of it? As it turns out, I haven't.
