[Nuevo Video] Weezer - Pork And Beans
    2008-05-25 12:43:00

Pork, Poultry, Empty Pastures and the Pu Pu Platter
    2008-05-07 19:42:58
Your mum’s tired, and her sluggishness may be from less protein. At home, we don’t eat a lot of meat. In fact, most of the time, we’re close to having a lacto-vegetarian diet. Beans. Veggies. Vitamin B6. Chlorophyl. Cheese. Couscous. Fruits. Candy. Pop. But tonight, I order Chinese food. Beef with gailan. Chicken fried rice. Pork pot stickers. Should I order the duck, as well? No, she says. As we wait, I boil eggs for tomorrow’s protein infusion. Your Pita always gets Pu Pu Platter. Funny sounding, isn’t it?

    Pork & Beans
    2008-04-18 07:00:00
After two days of scrutinizing listens and opinions swinging to and fro, i think i've finally made my mind up on the new Weezer single, Pork & Beans. Its awkwardly good.Since getting into them in 2000/01, Weezer have been probably the most important band in my musical timeline. Every one of their releases gets me as excited as a little kid on Christmas and, to be honest, I've only really been let down by their last effort Make Believe, which was uninspiring to say the least.Pork & Beans is a confident comeback for Weezer. Its actually a brave decision for their first single as its not exactly your no. 1 smash with its bouncy verse riff and odd background squarks but its the chorus that makes me giddy with joy. The double crunch that kicks it off leads into a scuzzy, over-driven chord progression that harks back to days of Blue and Rivers' vocal melody is huge and catchy.I only have a couple of concerns really. Some of the lyrics are a bit crap. If Rivers is trying to be intenti

I think this kinda bak kut teh posturing is very childish and doesn’t take into account the feelings of Muslims. To most Muslims, pigs are really quite offensive. Three Herb Pork Tenderloin on Ciabatta
    2008-04-08 08:06:00
I through together this pork tenderloin, thinking that I would heat up some left over rice to serve with it, but then Lon called and he was going to be late coming home from work. The pork was already in the oven and almost ready to come out. It would no longer be hot when he arrived. Quickly, I switched dinner plans, the room temperature pork would now be made into a sandwich. When Lon got home, I sliced the pork into 1/2 inch slices, and laid it on ciabatta with a spread (half mayo/half whole grain mustard). The key is not to over-cook the pork tenderloin. There is an old misconception that pork needs to be cooked to well-done, but we now know that pork only needs to be cooked to an internal temperature of 137 degrees to kill Trichinella Spiralis. The USDA currently advises that pork be cooked to 160 degrees (medium) but when I make tenderloin (an extremely low-fat cut of meat), I prefer medium-rare (145 degrees). This gives the sliced pork tenderloin a roast beef like quality, moist

Congress Sets Pork Record. . .
    2008-04-03 17:51:04
When Democrats took power last year they promised to cut wasteful spending. Here's how they did (from the Washington Times) : The Democrat-led Congress last year broke a promise to slash pork spending and doled out $17.2 billion for pet projects, a 30% increase over the previous year's $13.2 billion expenditure, according to the Citizens Against Government Waste's (CAGW) 2008 "Pig Book."... Super staph bug found in pork products
    2008-03-19 11:36:00
Canadian researchers have found antibiotic-resistant Staph bacteria in pork products purchased in retail stores across the country - a discovery that raises questions about how the contamination occurred, how frequently it happens and whether it has implications for human health. Just under 10 per cent of sampled pork chops and ground pork recently purchased in four provinces tested positive for

Expiring Tax Cuts And More Pork: Wait, That's Not Good
    2008-03-14 10:11:00
Well, there you have it. The merry go round of voting yesterday pretty much accomplished nothing in the way of restoring the public's faith in government. We're looking at more taxes, and more excessive unnecessary spending. As expected, the Democratically controlled Senate voted overwhelmingly to continue appropriating mass amounts of funding for their pocket-lining buddies by a 71-29 vote. This last year as it turns out, was to a tune of over $18 billion in pork. Even Hillary and Obama voted to take a one year breather from earmarks, even though Obama already claimed a little over $100 million and Hillary about $385 million.Democrats aren't the only ones to blame here. Just mostly to blame, as a couple Republicans crossed over to vote down the bill. It seems these folks feel it's some sort of Constitutional guarantee that they be able to dive into the treasury as THEY wish, rather than for what is really necessary. Also not accomplished was the Bush tax cuts. They will now be expiring

The SAVE Act and Pork Spending: A New Bi-partisan Era?
    2008-03-13 05:20:00
As hard as it is to believe, could we be witnessing the beginning of a new era in BI-Partisan politics? While I hold no overly exuberant hope for that, we may at least be seeing politicians putting aside party lines to start getting the jobs done for which they were elected.Nah, not likely. But, we now have TWO, count'em TWO examples of this this week in both the SAVE Act and the Pork Spending.McCain is only one of six members of the Senate who doesn't go for earmarks. I guess that's one plus I can give him. And he has brought the issue up many times, usually to be defeated not only by Democrats, but recently by some of those in his own party. Obama and Clinton are joining McCain in this call for a one year hiatus in earmarks. Rep.'s and Dem.'s in agreement? Astonishing.Even Pelosi has jumped on this bandwagon, but with a considerable number of aides seeing this bill failing, it's really not much of a risk for her. Even if it passes, it's only for one year. But that's at least $15 billi

    Pork Pie, without the Pork.
    2008-02-07 14:48:00
February 8 The Internet firmly believes that Cape Breton Island was granted to Sir Robert Gordon of Lochinvar by Charles I, on this day 1631 – which was going to lead me to an anniversary exposé of the strangely porkless ‘Cape Breton Pork Pie’. I fear that The Internet has it a little wrong however, as in the fine print elsewhere it claims that Sir Robert died in 1628, and that he received the gift in November 1621. Any Scots or Nova Scots historians who can clarify, please do let us know the real truth. A little factual confusion must not be allowed to get in the way of a good story however – so the famous pies it is. The Internet is strangely silent on the story of the porkless pork pies, save that they exist, and contain dates where the pork would be expected to be, and sugar, which would not be expected at all. The provenance is in great doubt, with a number of alternative myths where the history ought to be. Cape Breton was settled by the Scots, then the French, the

    Why Islam Forbids Pork?
    2007-12-10 09:39:00
By: Rashid Shamsi (The Muslim World League Journal, Rajab 1420 - October 1999) Food and drink have direct effect on our health. That is why Islam has prescribed regulations about our food and drink. It lays great emphasis on our physical as well as moral health, because both of these are equally important for a healthy society. The abstention from eating pork is one of the steps taken by Islam to practise hygiene and to attain purity of soul.Islam, for the cultivation of inner faculties, insists upon the cleanliness of body and the purification of soul through Salaat (prayers) Zikr (remembrance of Allah) and other devotional duties. Islam teaches us how to attain the virtues and how to give up bad habits because both good and bad grow in the man according to his upbringing, education and environment.A human being has natural desires: food, sleep and sex being the three primary ones. He has also other natural emotions: sorrow, happiness, love, fear, disgust and avarice etc. Islam doesn't recommend the complete abrogation of these impulses but offers a method of controlling them through religious education and discipline. The prohibition of eating pork in Islam is relevant in this context. There is a saying in English that "a man becomes what he eats." According to physicians and medical experts, pork is a harmful diet. Consumption of swine-flesh creates lowliness in character and destroys moral and spiritual faculties in a man.Body and SoulThe life of a man is a compound of body and soul. Anything, which is harmful for the body, hurts the soul as well. Consumption of swine-flesh reduces the feeling of shame and as such the standard of modesty. Those nations, which consume pork habitually, have a low standard of morality with the result that virginity, chastity and bashfulness are becoming a thing of the past in Europe today. The number of unwed mothers is on the increase despite of the use of pills and other contraceptives.According to a report, 60 to 70% of girls in

Pork Tenderloin "Schnitzel" with Old World Mustard Sauce
    2007-10-08 05:15:00
Serves 4 Ingredients :Sauce:6 oz good beer (German beer would be a bonus. Use a lager.)4 Tbl minced shallots1-1/2 cups chicken broth1/2 cup whipping cream (or half and half)3 Tbl German or Dijon mustardPork:2 pork tenderloins, trimmed, cut crosswise into one-inch thick medallions1/2 cup flour1/2 cup egg substitute (or 2 fresh eggs beaten with a fork)1 cup bread crumbs (Canned is fine.)1/2 cup walnuts4 Tbl fresh parsley leaves1/4 tsp pumpkin pie spice6 Tbl olive oil (divided)Start the sauce first.Put the beer and the shallots in a medium saucepan. Boil them slowly until reduced by half. Takes about 10 minutes. Add the chicken broth. Boil down to 1-1/2 cups of liquid total. This will take about 10 more minutes. You're making a reduction, which intensifies the flavor of the sauce. Turn off and let sit for a bit. While the sauce is boiling you can start the pork.In order to keep my kitchen cleaner, I pound meat inside a sturdy plastic bag. Take your medallions a couple at a time and put them in the bag. Using a meat mallet, pound them to about a quarter inch thick. Their circumference should about double. Get them all ready to go in this fashion. Set them aside on a plate.Put the flour on one plate. Put the eggs in a shallow bowl. Put the crumbs in your food processor along with the parsley, walnuts and pie spice. Whiz until the whole mixture is finely chopped. Then transfer this mixture to another plate. You now have an assembly line: flour, eggs and breadcrumb mixture.Pick up a piece of tenderloin. Dredge it in flour and shake off the excess. Dip both sides in the eggs. Now dip in the breadcrumb mixture and coat both sides. Set aside. Do this again and again until you have all pieces ready to sauté. Now wash those messy hands.Heat your 3 tablespoons of olive oil in a large sauté pan. Sauté as many pieces of tenderloin as will fit in the pan. Medium to Medium-High heat will do it. Get the meat golden brown on one side and flip it over. Brown the other side. This shouldn't take more than 6 minutes total. As you get batches done, put them on a heat proof sheet and put them in the oven on Warm. Check one to make sure it's not too pink in the middle. The meat will continue to cook while it's warming. If you have two large sauté pans, you can probably do the whole batch at once, but most folks will need to do this in two batches. The other 3 tablespoons of olive oil are for the second batch of medallions. While the second batch is sautéing, you can add the cream to the sauce. Heat on Medium-High just until it starts to bubble. This will thicken the sauce. Then turn to Low until the meal is ready. If you are serving a veggie, this is the time to get that ready too.The modern way to serve this would be to spoon the sauce around the meat rather than on top. This way it keeps a crunchy crust on the pork tenderloin. Enjoy!

Eat Pork Now ! Gasy Yet?
    2007-09-18 11:24:00
It it first started , we were bombarded with ad campaigns practically begging us to drink milk, eat beef and fry up some pork. Tell the 70-80% of African-Americans and Asian-Americans that are lactose intolerant that milk does a body good or the more than 50% of the adult population that's lactose intolerant. What about the overweight gentleman who keeps telling his doctor "all I had was a cheeseburger and fries today, I don't know why I'm overweight." Pork may not kill you, but all the sodium in it might. Think about the last time you ate a piece of cheese, drank a glass of milk or had a piece of meat - how did you feel afterwards? My guess is, gas-y, crampy, heavy, bloated, a sudden urge to go to the bathroom or just really tired. The list of wrongs with meat and dairy far outweigh the rights.Ever wonder why so many people have a tough time losing weight even though they don't seem to be eating much? Cheese, milk, ice cream and egg yolks - they're all fat. Meat products contain

Dianne Feinstein is a Big Fat Pig: Congressional Pork-barrel Spending/ Earmarks are Out of Control under Nancy Pelosi
    2007-09-05 07:13:05
While the Democrats promised to clean up Congress, Nancy Pelosi and her ilk are letting the American people down miserably. Still, the MSM refuses to inform the public how corrupt the Democrats are. Instead, they would rather focus on a bathroom incident as the Democrats destroy our treasury worse than the Republicans ever did.If we review the numbers, the amount of pork-barrel spending and earmarks are out of control. Not only does Dianne Feinstein funnel money to her husband’s business with Iraq War funds, she spends more of our money than any other Congressman. Senator Dianne Feinstein raked in $382.3 Million, Rep. Jack Murtha, D-Pa., ate away at $186 Million, Barbara Boxer tore her “fair share” of $152.5 Million, Nancy Pelosi used her good ethics to spend $141.3 Million, Rep. David Obey, D-Wis. rang up $96 Million, and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., brought in $85.5 Million. Well, at least Nancy Pelosi allowed a bunch of children to sit on her lap in front of

    Chicken-fried Pork Chops w/ Gravy

Oh well. =P Chicken-fried Pork Chops w/ Gravy (4 servings) 5 center-cut pork chops (1/2 to ¾ inch thick)2 teaspoons ground black pepper1 cup all-purpose flour2 ½ teaspoon salt2 eggs1 cup lard or bacon fat1 cup full cream milk¼ cup water 1) Sprinkle pork chops with 1 teaspoon pepper on both sides. 2) On a separate container, mix flour, 2 teaspoons salt and ½ teaspoon pepper. Reserve 3 tablespoons from flour mixture for gravy. In a pie plate, beat eggs. 3) In a skillet, heat lard or bacon fat over medium-high heat until hot. As shortening heats, dredge pork chops in eggs and then in flour to coat thoroughly. 4) Cook pork chops in batches until browned, about 2-3 minutes per side. Transfer pork chops to a plate to drain and season with ¼ teaspoon salt. 5) Discard all but ¼ cup drippings from skillet, leaving any browned bits in skillet. Reduce heat to medium and stir in reserved flour mixture. Cook stirring until flour in golden brown for about 1 minute. Whisk in milk and water and heat to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer until gravy reaches desired thickness, whisking in remaining ½ teaspoon pepper and ¼ teaspoon salt. Serve gravy immediately with pork chops.

The Philippines' Political Clans Control Billions in Pork Barrel!
    2007-07-27 07:24:40
Saw this article on pork barrel and the Philippines' political families a few days ago. Could be an interesting read. :)From GMANews.TV:A senator is entitled to P200 million in pork barrel, a congressman P70 million. Provincial governors and city and municipal mayors have access to the Internal Revenue Allotment, the local governments’ share from national taxes collected. Many political families whose members hold national and local posts thus can lay their hands on billions of pesos in taxpayers’ money.Twenty political families with many incumbent government officials elected last May have in their influence a total of close to P20 billion for this year.At least nine families have access and influence over more than P1 billion each in government funds for 2007 alone, i.e., the Marañons of Negros Occidental, the Plazas of Agusan del Sur, the Garcias of Cebu, the Garin-Cari-Petilla clan of Iloilo and Leyte, the Espinos of Pangasinan, the Zubiris of Bukidnon, the Maliksis of Cavite,

Fillet of Pork in Pink Sauce
    2007-07-20 23:52:14
This dish is an ideal dish when you have to come up with something quickly and easy made. It is also one of my favorite everyday meals because it can be prepared ahead. INGREDIENTS:Serves 6* 8 hg (800 g) fillet of pork* butter* salt and pepper* 3 dl cream or crème fraiche* 3/4 tbsp Chinese soy* 2 - 3 tbsp chili sauce (ketchup-like)* 2 cloves of garlic* 3/4 tsp French mustard* 3 tsp tarragon* ½ tsp black pepper* chopped parsley* ½ tbsp rosé pepper, or why not some red hot chili pepper flakes (optional).METHOD:1. Cut the fillet into slices, 1½ - 2 centimeters (150 - 200 mm).2. Brown the fillet slices in butter in a skillet.3. Salt and pepper to taste.4. Put the slices into an ovenproof dish.5. Pour cream or crème fraiche into a bowl. 6. Add the remaining ingredients, and stir around.7. Taste the sauce. pour it over the fillet slices, and stir around.8. When ready to serve, heat the oven to 225°C [=437 °F].9. Reheat about 10 minutes.Though simple, it is good-looking and tasty served with potatoes, cooked rice or pasta. I like to serve oven-cooked potato wedges and a salad. So, for a potato recipe go to limes & lycopene.Since most pork comes from young animals, the meat is tender. Fillet of pork is often sold at special price here in Sweden; fresh, or imported frozen from Denmark. Sometimes Swedish fillet of pork is three times more expensive than the Danish. I wonder why."You are what you eat, and you get what you pay for"? I am not sure Danish pigs are as "happy" as Swedish pigs, but I would never pay a fortune for an everyday meal.http://minareceptsamlingar.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss

    Pork Burgers
    2006-01-02 16:17:00
Here's a recipe that I created last week when I wanted to make burgers for dinner but realized I only had ground pork in the refrigerator. After gathering the ingredients I had on hand, these burgers turned out great. My husband and I couldn't wait to have them again the next night. Let me know what you think if you get a chance to make them (I apologize in advance if some of the measurements aren't exact, sometimes I tend to just throw things together and realize after that I should have made a note of the amounts used).1 lb. Ground Pork1 garlic clove chopped1 tbsp. water1/4 cup or less honey dijon mustard2 tbsp. chili sauce1/2 tsp ground pepper1/2 tsp ground thyme1/4 tsp poultry seasoning1-2 slices of swiss cheese cut into small squares1-2 tbsp. fresh chopped parsley2-3 tbsp. grated cheese (ex. I used parmigiano regiano)Combine all ingredients in a medium sized mixing bowl (I use my Tupperware Thatsa Bowl), if the mixture is still a little dry to form into patties, you can add in more mustard or chile sauce to your liking. Press down mixture evenly in bottom of bowl and divide into 4 equal sections. Form each section into a firm ball and then flatten and shape into a patty. Place each burger onto a skillet coated with olive oil. Cook until no longer pink.Tastes great when served on slices of organic artisan bread (I used a multi grain loaf). Much better than traditional burger buns since most of the ones I've seen tend to contain high fructose corn syrup, preservatives to retain spoilage, and worse.
