Any literary fans will also be interested to visit Golden Lane in the castle grounds where Franz Kafka once lived.Charles BridgeCharles Bridge is a hive of activity day and night and is an important part of this vibrant city, not least because it is the main thoroughfare linking the Old Town with Mala Strana on the opposite side of the river. Mala Strana, Prague
    2008-05-19 08:58:07
Mala Strana, both meaning in English literally “Little Side”, though more frequently referred to as “Lesser Town”, “Lesser Quarter”, or “Lesser Side”) was originally a popular and nowadays also the official name for “The Lesser Town of Prague”, one of Prague’s historical and oldest boroughs. Its name comes from its position on the left (west) [...]

Lots of development in Prague lately
    2008-03-25 18:40:50
There have never been so much things being built in Prague as they are now. And prices of new flats are twice the prices that we had few years ago. I guess it's time to invest in countries such as Bulgaria now. Friend of mine has just bought two apartments here. He's great in investing his money :)I'll be out of Prague and internet connection for a few days. On the other hand I'll have a few rolls of Kodak Portra with me :)I'd also like to share a link to one wonderful blog called Lung S. Liu Journal.Have a great week!

Prague's (little) version of Eiffel tower
    2008-02-25 17:01:35
Petrinska rozhledna/Petrin lookout tower is Prague's so called smaller version of Paris' Eiffel tower. It was build in 1891. When the weather is right you can see places in the Czech republic that are more than 100km far away. There's a grand view on Prague Castle as well :)The only drawback is that it is on the top of Petrin hill and you have to literally climb up here. But than again, there are those fabulous views on Prague during your climb. Here's a link to the real Eiffel tower at Paris DP.

Prague Public transport ticket on your mobile phone
    2007-11-26 16:05:43
We have a great new thing in Prague's public transport system. You can buy your ticket simply by sending short message from your mobile phone. No need to buy it at a vending machine, to put all those coins inside it and then having the ticket validated in a validating machine. You just write "DPT", send it to the phone number 9020620 and few moments later you have the "SMS ticket" in your phone. Sure, it is a little dangerous when you run down the stairs to the metro station trying to write and send that message... but it is so much faster.

    From Warsaw to Prague…
    2007-11-26 05:39:00
On Friday my wife and I will go to Prague for the weekend, and I just realized that (Copenhagen aside) it will be the fifth European Capital I visit this year (the previous four being Warsaw, Berlin, London and Bern). This will be my third trip to the Czech Capital and I’m very much looking forward to spending a few days in the city that I visited the first time in the (not-so) good old days of the Iron Curtain.I know I often complain about how my life has change since I became a father (and of course it has), and how I never travel anywhere anymore. I guess the above lines tell quite a different story and that I really should stop whining?Swedish indie pop one-man band (does such a thing as a one-man band exist?) Pet Politics has released a limited edition 7” single on English label The Great Pop Supplement. The single is lo-fi indie pop piece called The Spring and is exactly as lovely and catchy as you’d expect it to be (knowing that it’s from Sweden). Intriguingly the b-side

Porsche in Prague. This time at Ovocny trh square. The entrance behind it is to Myslbek shopping gallery. The other entrance is to Na Prikopech street - this is right in the Prague's centre. Anyhow, Ovocny trh is quite a quiet place with a few "on the street" restaurants. There's also Stavovske theatre. And district court for Prague 1. And Charles university and Carolinum - this year's World Press Photo exhibition was in Carolinum. Well, Ovocny trh square is quite big.

Old Camaro at Prague's vintage cars gallery at Smichov. This is an older photo and the camaro is gone by now (or maybe only in deposit, who knows). They have a various old cars here and all of them are timeless. My personal favourite for today would be a Porsche 911 from the seventies :)... and there is a great view at Vltava river behind the Gallery. It is very close to this picture.... and the Gallery is almost facing a building with new studio type of flats. They are amazing! You can see them here.

    Black Cadillac STS in Prague
    2007-10-06 21:46:00
I have a lot of photos of cars in Prague streets and I have quite a lot of this Cadillac STS at various places (like this one at Flickr). I think this is the only new generation STS in Prague. Maybe they have one or two at a showroom but I doubt there really are more of them in Prague, even in the Czech Republic.Few years ago Cadillac (or better to say its local dealer) entered the Czech market with an interesting campaign. They cooperated with Mountfield, company that sells gardening stuff (from the smallest tools to swimming pools), and they have about 100 Cadillac CTS' in prices for buying that garden stuff. You can imagine what kind of reputation Cadillac got in Czech Republic after that. It definitely was not a luxury, always on the technology edge kind of vehicle.I just got invitation for two big Cadillac meetings in Europe. There's one in May (organized by German Cadillac club and Cadillac & LaSalle Club) and one at the end of August (in Kremsmunster) - both in Germany. And a friend of mine bought Cadillac Escalade ESV few months ago... he pulls his 1968 Dodge Charger behind it. Well, he has more great cars :) Actually, I have his Charger in a photoset on Flickr, too. Just click here and find it.

And it would be very very expensive. And there's more. Albeit you won't have a view at Prague Castle (it's over the roof) you will have a view into the offices of a modeling agency residing here :)

Smichovske nadrazi train station in Prague
    2007-10-03 01:37:00
Although I had my way through Smichovske nadrazi station (bus and metro) every day since my 5th class at elementary school today was my first time seeing it from this perspective. Sure, it was a total coincidence. Actually, this isn't the main part of Smichovske nadrazi train station. The platforms are to the left where there's a bunch of other rails. And more to the left is the bus station and metro entrance. Even more to the left is Smichov's McDonald and just a little even more left is Vltava river. On the other side there's the new highway. It really speeds up driving through Prague. But you must be careful about your speed. They are evaluating the average speed you have over the whole section of this road and if you go faster you get the ticket. (FYI the speed limit is 70 km/h in here, that's about 44 mph ... isn't it interesting that conversion between km and miles is the same as the 1.6 crop factor on Canon cameras :)

Well, there is no chance to use this right in the center of Prague. In the old building full of offices. Unless he was diving in the nearby Vltava river. But still, this is strange. On Thursday there was a girl drinking her coffee right here sitting in this window. But she was gone seconds before I found my camera.

As I've said before, Smichovske nadrazi is a station where people from Prague outskirt change from bus and train to metro and tram to go further inside Prague. And this is the actual bus I was waiting for.I took this picture to try 3200 iso on my new Canon 40D :) You can see the big picture at Flickr (click on "All sizes" to view the 9 MB file). Time 1/20 and aperture 2.2 ... it was really pretty dark here.

Novy Smichov - Prague's best shopping center in the center
    2007-09-28 00:08:00
Backstreet look at the shopping center Novy Smichov. It is probably the best "in the Prague center" shopping center in Prague :) ... considering people going to and actually shopping here. The shopping center at Flora (also a metro station) may be as popular as Novy Smichov. Chodov (also a metro station :) would follow. Novodvorska Plaza and Eden would be on the other end - they are definitely not successful. Then there are "on the outskirts" shopping centers, but I won't bother you with them.We will have a new shopping center very close to Old Town. But not as close to ruin the historical feel of Prague. It is called Palladium and is located at Namesti Republiky square (also a metro station). Opening of Palladium will be a big event. A lot of new brands entering the Czech market will have their first shops here. Palladium is at a very lucrative place - it is just a minute from Prague's shopping street Na Prikopech. Palladium opens on October 25.PS: Abbreviation for shopping center in Czech language is OC ("obchodni centrum"). Do you know anything else named OC? Maybe a TV serie? :)PPS: Lindex is one of the new brands in Czech republic. Actually they opened their first shop in Brno just a week ago and will be at Palladium, too. If you are from Norway/Sweden/Finland - do you know Lindex? What do you think?

If I was an Audi wagoon I wouldn't park anywhere else but here. This part of Prague is called Smichov and Smichov is usually known just as a big bus and train station where people from Prague outskirts change to metro or tram. But it has its beauty, too. It is hidden in the hills. And you can see the depth in front of the car. The buildings are amazing here. Lot of them looks like a little mansions, almost non of them is repaired. So you can literally feel the history here. It was well worth not taking the bus and having a short walk here.

Weirdest Industrial Sculptures Place in Prague
    2007-09-25 23:03:00
Right at Nadrazi Holesovice station (metro, bus and tram - there are no more options) at Holesovice. There used to be a driver's school. Don't know if it is still here. But I think there's a pub (or bar or club) here now. They are growing these sculptures for years... very successfully. And I lied in the title. This is not the Weirdest Industrial Sculptures Place in Prague now. There's a street exhibition at Andel (also a bus, metro and tram station). There are sculptures made of old computers and various home appliances. They are over 3 metres high and from what I remember they are in the shapes of prehistoric animals. I should go there again and take a picture of them so you can compare which place is weirder. Hope they will not be gone on weekend.PS: I took this shot over a curved tram window, thus the blur in some places.

    Kinetik Apple Store in Prague
    2007-09-24 23:39:00
Kinetik Apple Store is one of the few Apple-friendly places in Prague. Actually, it is along with Apple store at Revolucni street the only real shop with Apple products in Prague. The others are like small kiosks in shopping centers or places only Apple fans know and go there to buy concrete things - not just to look at new products.Kinetik Apple Store is situated at Andel metro station. They do a lot of free seminars here. And I bought Pages here few years ago, too :) You can visit them at www.appleobchod.cz.

Jan Hus Statue in Prague (the lesser famous one)
    2007-09-22 19:28:00
Jan Hus Statue in Zbraslav, at the southern part of Prague. Jan Hus is one of the great men in Czech history as you can find out at this Wikipedia page by yourself. This statue was build in 1935. Forty years after the first idea of Jan Hus' statue emerged. It was almost melted during the second world war, but some people hid it and so we can have it here in Zbraslav nowadays.

Mango ad in the water and on the Prague's house
    2007-09-21 00:02:00
I was eating my late afternoon quickie meal in the middle of Wenceslas square. In front of a tiny red car that was reflecting in the water. But I hadn't finished it and the old lady came and drove away. So I took a picture of this Mango ad that is on one of the old buildings at Wenceslas square.Actually Prague's city hall decided to dramatically lower the number of those kind of ads. They don't want them to cover Prague houses. Usually they are used when the house is being reconstructed. To cover the scaffolding.I read an interview with the head of Prague's institution that takes care - among others - of the renovation of Prague's statues and sculptures. He said his idea was to offer the place on the scaffolding to advertisers in exchange for financing the renovation. Unfortunately, he wasn't successful at his superiors. I think this is a smart idea as there is only a very limited budget for renovations.

Prague's most known PC and IT store
    2007-09-19 09:41:00
Almost all IT guys at Prague buy their stuff here. This is a warehouse of Alzasoft company at Holesovice. I was there returning an infrared adapter only to find out their returning window closed just as I got here. Well, it was my mistake. I took a tram that went the opposite way than I wanted to go and lost that few minutes that caused a friend of mine has to go there tomorrow instead of me.Holesovice is one of the fastest growing Prague parts. It was renovated after the floods few years ago - it is right at Vltava river. There is a lot of new projects here as well. Including office spaces and amazing flats at the river. Most of these development projects have "marina" in its name.

Shopping weekend in Prague with Marianne
    2007-09-17 09:25:00
Marianne magazine issued a bunch of discount coupons for the top shops in Prague for this past weekend and you can see Prague's centre full of shopping girls and women with a red bag with Marianne logo. They have this stand in the upper part of Wenceslas square, too.

... for a richer life (Ferrari in Prague)
    2007-09-16 22:30:00
"For a richer life" is the slogan on the window display of CSOB bank. It suits that Ferrari quite well, don't you think? I would mention that this is at Na Prikopech street. The most expensive shopping street in Prague. Actually it is even the 18th most expensive shopping street in the whole world. The most trendy top-luxury car in Prague is coupe from Bentley right now. I remember times when Audi TT was the most popular. It usually happens during summer. One type of luxury car starts to appear more and more often and then it looks like everybody has one. It was Mercedes SL few years ago and I predict that it will be Mercedes CL next year. That car is awesome.PS: There's a cafe in Prague which belongs to one of Ferrari owners and they meet there with their cars quite often. It's close to Charles bridge. I will show it to you later.

    Canon 40D in Prague
    2007-09-15 12:09:00
Canon EOS 40D had its Czech premiere this week and you know what? They were out of stock of all Prague photo stores in the first two days. I was fortunate enough to find a shop that actually has the last one. So I bought it :) And I fall in love with it after the first 30 minutes of exploring all of its possibilities.

I count this apartment to one of my Prague's "'d like to live in" :) It is so close to Charles bridge and I bet the view - including Prague Castle - is fantastic. Lucky person who lives here.

Cartier has a new store in Prague. It is at the corner of Parizska street and Old Town square. You can look at my photo from January when there was only a big sign saying "opening in spring". Well, it took a little longer.

    Alchymist Garden Restaurant in Prague
    2007-09-12 07:11:00
This picturesque Alchymist garden restaurant is located near Charles bridge and Kampa, right in the heart of the old part of Prague. I discovered it while looking for a right photo for the last DP theme day (Prague Street lights and signs). It is a tourist's restaurant heaven on this side of Charles bridge because there are so many cute restaurants well worth spending your time at here.

    Prague pubs: U Maleho Glena
    2007-09-11 07:23:00
View from a window at U Maleho Glena pub. This is a pub really close to Prague Castle - actually being right under it - and Charles bridge. There are music concerts at the underground hall (it is a famous jazz and blues music club as well). And if you go there you'll see photos on the wall. Those are the photos of a friend of mine. Unfortunately I haven't been there nor see them. I was only at the upper pub enjoying the old Prague atmosphere here - with a glass of not Czech beer. You can rent a room at U Maleho Glena also. I would say you can hardly find better placed accommodation in Prague than this one.

Prague sky we haven't seen in Prague lately
    2007-09-10 23:40:00
There have not been that clear sky in Prague for a long time now. The summer holidays are over and so is the summer weather. Tomorrow is said to be the coldest day of this week. Well, it was so cold in Prague last week that we have to wear a winter jackets not to freeze all over.By the way, this is Jecna street and down the way is Charles square and a little more down the way is Vltava river.

    2007-09-06 22:27:00
Under Church of Our Lady in front of Týn and with Old Town square at the end of this street. Quite a nice place to park your car :)There's a classic music shop in this street. They play this music all day long. Pretty loud. So you can enjoy centuries old architecture of Prague with centuries old music. But not many people stop here. It's just a quick way to get to Old Town square.Canon 50E + expired Fujichrome 100/1000 slide film

Prague For The 2016 Summer Olympics Games
    2007-09-06 13:00:07
Just days before the September 13 deadline for submission of entries. The Prague of Czech Republic has joined a strong line-up of Cities bidding to host the 2016 Summer Olympics. Prague Mayor Pavel Bem and Czech Olympic Committee chairman Milan Jirasek both finalized the city's intent to host & also unveiled the logo for The Prague bid for the 2016 Olympics. The logo consists of green numbers in the year 2016 shaped like a laurel branch as a symbol of victory. If successful, it will be the first time The Prague's first time to host the Summer Olympics after their unsuccessful bid in 1924 which Paris won.Though Prague has entered the Olympics hosting race, Officials say The Prague's bid has a very slim chance given that London will be hosting the 2012 Summer Olympics & it would be highly unlikely that the IOC will have 2 European cities will host the Olympic Games consecutively. Instead, they are hoping it will strengthen their bid for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games.OlympicsSports

    Girl in Prague Subway
    2007-09-05 23:12:00
At Nadrazi Holesovice metro station. Close to one of Prague's fashion schools (there are two in Prague, I think). She might be going to that school now. At least she wanted to when we accidentally met (in front of that school) and I took this picture of her (in front of a Prague Metro map).Canon 50E + Ilford Pan 400

A photo from a photo shooting of well dressed people in the streets of Prague. We saw her going from the supermarket carrying a whole lot more bags than one person can carry. She was just after grocery shopping. And she looked like this. She would go straight to the pages of a fashion magazine :)

Prague Food Festival at Museum Kampa
    2007-09-02 23:34:00
Next weekend there'll be Prague Food Festival at Museum Kampa. So if you're in Prague and love great food you can't miss this festival. Entry fee for Prague Food Festival is 350 Kc (that's about 13 Euro or 17 US dollars) and you can taste the best of the best 12 Prague and Czech restaurants every one of the three festival days. You'll get all the details about Prague Food Festival 2007 at the PragueFoodFestival.com.(I already regret that I won't be in Prague in the time of the food festival.)There is also an exhibition Andy Warhol - Disaster relics: Selected prints at Museum Kampa. Very good and definitely worth seeing as my friend told me last week. And by the Andy Warhol poster on the picture you can see which building Museum Kampa is (as seen from Charles Bridge).

    Prague's Courtyard
    2007-08-29 07:43:00
This courtyard is right in the heart of Prague but still remains very peaceful. There are 2 cafes, a pub, a pizzeria and a very stylish restaurant here. So a plenty of options to choose from. If you go straight on you'll end up at Narodni trida street. On the opposite side is Skorepka street and my former elementary school. Strange thing is these places are grey and boring in my memories. But now all of them are glowing and full of life. And that's good for Prague :)Canonet QL17 + Ilford Pan 100 (I almost stopped using my digital camera :)

Porsche 911 in the Prague street
    2007-08-28 02:00:00
This Porsche 911 has one uncommon thing among all the Porsches in Prague and Czech Republic respectively. Its license plate doesn't contain number 911. It seems like every other 911 owner have the luck to get a plate with those numbers - and we don't (officially) have custom plates in Czech Republic. This place is very close to Celetna street (which leads to Old Town Square), Prague famous Kotva store and my former high school :) Thus I can tell you there's a pub on the right. Well, there was a pub. They rebuilt it lately and now it looks like there's gonna be a fancy and expensive restaurant. Prague is changing.UPDATE: Lets go see Porsche 356 at Zurich Daily Photo.356 is my very favorite Porsche... like this one from France for example :)Canonet QL17 + Ilford Pan 100

Yawning Prague taxidriver near Charles bridge
    2007-08-27 01:30:00
Prague taxidriver at the end of Karlova street facing the Charles Bridge... and yawning :)We had a school cafeteria across the street. We were 12 or so and have to run through the old Prague (Old Town square included) to have our lunch. We have to run because we wanted to be there first. And we found it funny running in the streets :)Taken with Canonet + Tri-X

Things to see from Charles Bridge other than Prague Castle
    2007-08-21 23:29:00
You can also see a boat from Charles Bridge. Or you can see Charles Bridge from a boat :)Prague started big and a very very long reconstruction of Charles Bridge. It will be still open for tourists but it will be slowly under reconstruction. I think it will end in 2011 or so. Maybe later. They are reusing the old stones. The originals from Petr Parler from the 14th century. And when the stone is unusable, they will make a new one but in the old fashioned way. So it will look just like when the bridge was firstly finished in 1402.More photos of Charles Bridge at Prague DP.Canonet QL17 + Kodak Tri-X 400 (exposed at 800 ISO)My Canonet QL17 series

Prague's biggest and the most real Louis Vuitton bag
    2007-08-20 23:36:00
100% original Louis Vuitton bag. Made from paper :) But even though, it's nice. And big. Bigger than other Louis Vuitton's bags. Louis Vuitton has its shop in Parizska street - the highly expensive highly known fashion stores' street. And the picture is from Na Prikopech street - maybe the second most expensive street in Prague.

Prague's copy of Paris' l’Hôtel des Invalides
    2007-08-19 22:26:00
Prague's Invalidovna is a copy of Paris' l’Hôtel des Invalides. This baroque complex was build during the first half of the 18th century as a hotel for injured soldiers. It's military archive now. And it is in a very bad shape. The flood in Prague few years ago leave its marks here, too. On the other hand it has that strange charisma of old times. Something you won't feel in the renovated buildings.I took this picture from the back of Invalidovna. There's a small park in front of it. There's a metro station nearby (also called Invalidovna). But this part of Prague, even though being close to center, is an abandoned place with a small village feel. It's just that, especially during the sunny Sunday afternoon, when the time stops here completely, workers slowly drinking their beers, two old ladies sitting on a park bench, silently, the only grocery shop around having only one customer - with ten employees who would help him but being too obsessed with nothing-doing. I kinda lov

Karlinske square is also a park to spend a sunny day in Prague
    2007-08-18 22:12:00
Karlinske square at Karlin, one of the almost central parts of Prague is also a park as you see. During the school year it is full of students. There are three schools behind the church (Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius). Two of my old but for a long time not seen friends go to the two of them. Speaking of those friends, first was a promising model but she's not continuing her career. You can watch her on one of our clubs event. The video is even relevant to Prague DP, because it was at Jan Palach square in front of Rudolfinum with a view on Prague Castle. What won't be relevant is the second friend. I met her at France where I also met this girl. Well, I love France. And now I have to go and see some France daily photo blogs. (I don't know why but I like Nantes - well, I know why. I wanted to live here but life changes things.)This photo was taken with Canonet QL17 and Ilford Pan 100 and I'm adding it to my Canonet QL17 series
